I am Rogers user , I followed mrRobinson's thread ( [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers / Sasktel] http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426)exactly. I try to downgrad from stock 4.1.2 to 4.1.1.
Everthing went smoothly in Odin stage, I used the file name (root66_RWC_I747MVLDLK4.tar.md5) designed for Rogers. after the phone restarted, the phone was set back to 4.1.1. the configuration is exactly the way it was, it didn't go to factory reset. I didn't lost any app or data. all the phone setting seems to be OK. I didn't lose cell signal, Mobile data, ect.
then nightmare begin, al lot annoying error msgs keeping poping up "unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped", "unfortunately, TouchWiz Home has stopped", "unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped", I have to keep continue to hit Ok get rid of these msgs, a simple task like slide btw screens, and openning up a app take foreve
as soon as I opened up play store, these error msgs keep showing up. after I hit OK, the play store just closed. Same thing for the phone app. I can't even make a phone call, it just keeping shutting down
I did go thru many replies on his OP. it seems nobody got this type of error. Please help!!!
Many Thanks,
Do a factory reset you will loose all your settings and apps but the FC's will stop.

is this the only option now? I am wondering what is the cause. the OP didn't say we need to do factory reset and wipe data before flash his root injected stock image.
thanks,
The OP assumes that you are not downgrading, and using a stock touchwiz Rom, in which case you do not have to wipe anything. What happened to you is normal if you try to downgrade without wiping.

Corect. Almost always when downgrading will you get these force closes. When you down grade you have to do a complete factory reset

I've seen people mention using titanium backup to freeze the device manager or updater app. Something to that effect.

thanks but i don't have a clue what that means.
i installed Kies on my pc to try and find the download and "push" it through with Odin, but Kies tells me my firmware is good.
i have NO idea where to dl the newest OTA from T-Mobile and then i'd have NO idea how to push it with Odin.
help, someone????
Titanium backup is an app from the market. With it you can uninstall system apps, or simply "freeze" them, meaning they are still there but no longer allowed to run.
"Device management" is the system app that's notifying you of the available ota update.
So, to answer your original question, download titanium backup and use it to freeze device management in order to get rid of the ota notification.
All this assumes of course that you are rooted and running a custom ROM. If you aren't on a custom ROM, then I wouldn't understand your wanting to avoid the update, as it appears it doesn't affect your ability to root, and may not even unroot your device.

i wasn't trying to avoid it, i was originally trying to install it, but Clockwork wouldn't let me; a couple people in here tried to offer 'halfway' help, but stopped answering my questions, so i mainly just wanted to get rid of the nag, since the mod i flashed got me to 2.3.6 anyway.
turns out that Perfect Backup let me clear the Device Mgmt data, and that got rid of the nag. so i didn't have to pay for Titanium Backup (can't freeze stuff unless you pay for it).
so the resolution is that once i'd flashed to 2.3.6 the OTA was just in some kind of cache, i guess, and all i had to do was clear it.

i just went through the exact same problem. go get Deodexed KL1 (i think it's a stock ROM) and it'll do what the new update is going to do, flash you to 2.3.6.
flash the modem, too, with Odin (KL1 modem) and then find your Device Management 10.* and Clear the Data using Perfect Backup (free).
i was unable to get rid of that nag/notification until i did that.
there may be other ways of Clearing the Data for Device Mgmt - maybe in App Manager. In any case, when i cleared the data the nag was gone.

Flash Mr X's deodexed stock rom. the rom your device downloaded is designed to work with your phones stock recovery and not with clockwork mod. X's rom works with CWM.

Thanks guys. I should have waited for the hint. I ended up resetting the rom and it fixed the nag. So clearing the cache would probably fix it too and save me a lot of reloading of apps and settings.
[Q] Stop OTA for Samsung GS 2 on T-Mobile
Hello!
My wife has a rooted GS 2 with the stock ROM from TMO. I am concerned that the new OTA (T989VUVKL1)might break her root functionality, cause repeated update notification, or cause her phone to no longer work. Does anyone know the app or file I need to freeze or delete to stop the OTA from happening? At this point she is also getting the notification to update (eek!) At some point I will want to upgrade the ROM to the newest one assuming I can keep root access. Thank you for all your help and support!
Freeze device manager.

So there have been posts about this in the past but none of them have been ansewered recently so i figured i'd ask again...
My T-Mobile Galaxy S3 is fine, but my girlfriends is messed up. She can't copy and paste. I just tried it my self. Holding down on say, for example, a url in chrome, and tapping copy causes chrome to force close.
I understand the only ways to fix it at this point seem to be factory reset (really a major pain in the ass... what with having to reenter all her info and passwords and everything) or rooting and then do a list of commands i found on various threads (really don't want her to have to root her brand new phone that is otherwise running great).
this really sucks. anyone know any newer methods to fix this? it's really ridiculous.
You could flash one of the official firmwares via odin. This will basically rewrite the system and a few other partitions while leaving data intact. If somethings corrupted on the system side, this should fix it by overwriting with good uncorrupted files.
And if you haven't updated to UVALJ4 yet you could get that at the same time.
If its something in the user data partition, then finding the responsible app and clearing data/cache may work. Otherwise you'd have to factory reset...
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
You need to be rooted though to do this.
Do this and it should work.
1. boot recovery (CWM) > advanced > wipe cache
2. reboot phone > Root Explorer > delete /data/clipbord/*
3. reboot recovery again > advanved > fix permissions
4. reboot phone > it's fine

oh i'm sorry, that's my bad i thought that flashing odin thing had to do with rooting or something. thanks, i'll look into that... one thing though is she just got the newest ota update last night and that didn't fix the problem. is that a bad sign that this might not work?

You can flash the stock firmware with odin without root.
Not necessarily, if there's a corrupted system file the ota simply may not have patched it, or patched a different part of it leaving the root cause of the problem intact. Keep in mind, my suggestion may not help at all. Its just another option for you in trying to find a fix.

I don't know if this would work. I've suggested it a number of times but no one ever told me for sure they even tried it.
My theory is something was corrupted when the system was loaded at the factory. This should mean that re flashing the firmware through Odin may fix it.
You can get the firmware and instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
You can download Odin here:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390135922294523684
You do not need to be rooted to flash with Odin. You will have the option of using the original, out of the box, system build, or you can use the updated firmware so that you will be up to date and won't require the OTA update (recommend this choice).
If you don't want to do this then my best suggestion is to backup your data, apps and internal sd. Then from settings menu do a Factory Reset. Though I doubt this will help if it is a probkem with the system side.
Hope this helps.

If you were rooted, it would have been a simple deletion of a folder. Since you are not, I guess you could try the method from poster 2...otherwise you'll just have to do a factory reset.

A number of people have had this problem and were not able to fix it by using any of the clear data/cache methods or by deleting the contents of or the entire /data/clipboard folder.
That and a lot of them said it had been a problem out of the box, which is why I began to suspect something was corrupted / not working right in the system itself. Rooted or not, at that point the best solution is probably to reflash the firmware.
Its easier than having to manually restore all of your apps and data after a reset imo!

My phone has rooted stock, MA7. It's been through one update without a problem. I just had to restore root. On the second OTA update, I tried Root Keeper. I kept root, but the update will not apply. It starts the update and a red exclamation mark appears on the droid and it reboots. No update applies.
Now, I am reminded over and over to take an OTA, 28.5MB in size. It fails every time I try.
How can I apply the latest update to my rooted stock? If not possible, is there a way to turn off the reminder?
When you applied root did you also install a different recovery? That would cause a fail. Bte the update isnt all that. Either way to remove notification go into titanium backup. Freeze system update. Exit. Then reboot to recovery. Wipe cache and dalvik and reboot. Done and done

Actually freezing stops the ota notification indefinitely. Be aware in order to update prl and profile you will have to temporarily unfreeze that app.

Freezing software update didn't fix it. It keeps coming back. I tried swiping notification away and then freeze and tried choosing Install Later and freezing. Neither works.
When I get app info on the notification, it brings me to Google services framework. Can't freeze that.
Any way to flash the update via recovery or some other way to apply?

Whoops. Missed that step. I went ahead and cleared data. We'll keep on eye on it. Thanks again!
All you have to do is delete /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip and clear caches and reboot. You will never get it again.
Wrong thread.

Hello
I rooted my Optimus G F180L and uninstalled some of the preinstalled apps.
Today I got a Software Update for my phone which I downloaded and was about 50 Mb.
When I tried to install it gave me an error that a rooted device couldn't be OTA updated.
Then I removed root from the SuperSu app but it gives me the same error as if it was still rooted.
I'm guessing it is because of uninstalling those apps.
If that's correct now I'd need to return it back to stock which i don't dare to do without being 100% sure I wont mess it up.
Would a factory reset do the work (how to do it?) or do I need to flash the whole stock ROM?
Any help highly appreciated!!
try to factory reset your phone, if that don't work maybe reflash or check with your phone carrier before doing anything else, maybe they haven't received the update yet.
Because when i run stock rom, i could receive OTA updates even while it was rooted

you can use a program like Titanium Backup (it requires root), if you wanna save data of the apps you got installed, if you wanna save contacts you can export them to an xml to storage and copy out, and sms' i personally use "SMS Backup & Restore" from Ritesh Sahu does the job good, as long as you don't got any drafting messages.

hmm, that i never have seen before, but if you want you can download the newest original firmware here: http://lge-phones.org/check-latest-lg-official-firmware
used the site a couple of times myself for my E975 and then flash the whole rom.
because i never had a problem, but maybe it's just different in some countries.
but if you decide to use LG's flashing tool remember to backup your data on your computer, or else they will be lost because LG's tool formats the phone totally.
