Hi, I have a problem with my patriot signature microsd 32gb on my 16gb Samsung Galaxy SIII which I use as a music and picture storage for my music player and camera
The phone is rooted and is running stock ROM and kernel
The problem:
1)when transferring music files while the sd card is in the phone, using a usb and explorer method of copying and pushing sometimes the write protected warning pops up, other times the file would copy but I could not find it in my music player/gallery, other times the file is present for a period of time but after a restart of my phone the file disappears.
NOTE: However, files that I have transferred using the microsd adapter and directly through the computer does not change at all.
2)On the default camera I have set up the external sd card as the default location for pictures, but when I take a picture sometimes the warning that "sd card cannot be located and default storage is changed back into phone"
3)On Android Commander when I try to push music files it always ends up as permission denied
4)When I try to copy music through the windows explorer this message pops up "the device has either stopped working or is not responding"
What I attempted:
I thought it was a formatting problem and so I tried to format the sd card using both my phone and pc into the phone's desired FAT32 format,
but the problem persists.
I have also inserted the sd card into the adapter and put the write protected switch up thinking it was a permissions problem
Is it a faulty card? or am I doing something wrong?
Additional Note:
1)I have both ES file explorer and Root explorer and when I attempt to change the permission on my external sd card which usually appears in ES file explorer as "rwx-rwx-r(blank)x" it always fails
2)When opening the gallery and trying to view some of the photos saved in the external sd card, it would appears as unable to load and just a black screen.
3)I also export playlists from itunes in m3u format and puts it in a playlist folder in the sd card but it would never appear when I try to see it in a file explorer, although using poweramp I can import the list, but the old ones that I have placed on the card is also present unable to find them or delete them in either the phone or the pc
I have really became desperate trying to solve this problem
Please help me
Try reformatting as exFat. Also I don't think you can change the permissions on the entire sdcard.
It could also be that the phone connects using MTP. There's an app here on xda called sgs3 easy ums. It will mount the card as a UMS device. Try transferring that way.
I think the sgs3 was intended to use the exFat format though.

Have you tried this?

I have a problem with my card right now for my SDS3 (see sig) but my problem is completely different from yours. Hope that helps solve your problem.

That's weird. If it doesn't pick up your card then the problem might be more serious than you think. But how can you see the contents and be able to format it yet utilities like Easus and SDFormatter can't see the drive? Did you try disconnecting all USB flash drives, your phone or other devices connected to your computer first? Check explorer and see to it that your card is the only one connected with a drive letter. Go to SDFormatter, hit refresh and make sure the drive letter is chosen.
SDFormatter just fixed the problem I was having.
You said you were rooted stock. Did you do any debloating or anything else to it. I doubt its the case but maybe something needed was accidentally removed.
Have you tried running fix permissions in recovery or TiB?
Also, how did you root? Was it recent and did the card function properly before? If you used odin to flash a rooted fw, maybe it was a bad download?
If all else fails, you could try reflashing the full stock fw with Odin.

1)I didn't do any debloating for my phone, and how do you run fix permissions in recovery? or TiB?
2)I root my phone by following this guide "How to Root U.S. and Canada Galaxy S3 SGH-T999/SGH-I747/SPH-L710! [Fail-Proof][Noob-Proof][U.S. Cellular]" using odin
3)So by reflashing the full stock fw do you mean I need to factory reset? or Is it possible to download the stock fw somewhere?
Sorry I am new to android, so please bear with me
Sorry, coulda sworn you could run fix permissions in Titanium....
You should be able to do this in cwm or twrp recovery. May be in the advanced menu. You can install the recovery from Rom or Goo Manager app.
Factory reset wipes all user data taking you back to an out of the box state.
You can get a pre rooted version of the FW from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
This is the original LE6 version though, if you want the updated LH2 version give me a few min to get the link for you.
Follow directions in that thread to flash with Odin.

thank you so much for taking the time and finding that for me!
i will definitely try it as soon as i can!
thanks again

Let us know how it goes. If noting at all seems to work, try borrowing a sdcard and see if it acts the same.
Could always just be a problem elwith the card itself

I had a patriot 16gb class 10.. when it works.. it's awesome should be called class 15 or something lol. However there were three times it randomly corrupts.. lost all my pictures and crap. A format usually fixes it. After the second time... i learned to put my photos to default internal memory. The third time i was no longer able to format it... couldn't move files in or out but i can open them?! I went with the high amount of 5 star reviews but should've listened to them 1-2 star reviews. They don't do well with phones. And your problem is a problem that occurred to me every now and then. Remember to back up your card frequently before it crashes!

ah, problem
so I tried followed the link and the steps to flash the fw
but I am encountering this problem of when odin is done and the phone is restarting the "process android.process.acore has stopped" along with touchwiz and poweramp.
I reflashed twice and the problem remains
I even cleared dalvik cache and regular cache and fixed permissions with cwm and rebooted but it still did not fix the problem
Do I have to factory reset now?
:crying:
I can't remember which app it is or if this is the one requiring factory reset. Can you boot and get to settings > app manager? If so clear data on google services framework. Maube also touchwiz home. (Can't remember for sure)
You could also try using the built in file manager in twrp. Go to /data/data and look for those folders and delete them. May not work but worth a try.

ya thanks for the advice but it didn't work
From what I can tell the only solution now is to do a factory reset
anyways so why did the fw not work for me?
i even made sure i downloaded the correct wind one
at least now maybe with the factory fw i can make sure the external sd card works?
so factory reset is done
external sd card still does not want to work via "my file" folder creation
I don't know is it broken? I would like to try another sd card but I need to find one
although I did test it with h2testw and no error message popped up.
It wrote and verified fine.
Sometimes left over data can cause problems with a newly flashed system. Odin didn't wipe your apps or data and something was left behind that conflicted with setup or something like that. Sorry it came down to that man.
Ive heard a few times over the past couple years of sdcards working fine in one device but not at all in another. It seems rare and I'm not sure why it happens, but it can.
Only way to know for sure is to borrow a known good sdcard and try it. If it also doesn't work then its most likely a problem with the phone. If it works then you probably need to replace the card. Maybe take it to the store where you got it and let them try. That way if it doesn't work you have a witness that can note your account of the issue.

ya probably have to do that
thanks again for the help
So there have been posts about this in the past but none of them have been ansewered recently so i figured i'd ask again...
My T-Mobile Galaxy S3 is fine, but my girlfriends is messed up. She can't copy and paste. I just tried it my self. Holding down on say, for example, a url in chrome, and tapping copy causes chrome to force close.
I understand the only ways to fix it at this point seem to be factory reset (really a major pain in the ass... what with having to reenter all her info and passwords and everything) or rooting and then do a list of commands i found on various threads (really don't want her to have to root her brand new phone that is otherwise running great).
this really sucks. anyone know any newer methods to fix this? it's really ridiculous.
You could flash one of the official firmwares via odin. This will basically rewrite the system and a few other partitions while leaving data intact. If somethings corrupted on the system side, this should fix it by overwriting with good uncorrupted files.
And if you haven't updated to UVALJ4 yet you could get that at the same time.
If its something in the user data partition, then finding the responsible app and clearing data/cache may work. Otherwise you'd have to factory reset...

You need to be rooted though to do this.
Do this and it should work.
1. boot recovery (CWM) > advanced > wipe cache
2. reboot phone > Root Explorer > delete /data/clipbord/*
3. reboot recovery again > advanved > fix permissions
4. reboot phone > it's fine

oh i'm sorry, that's my bad i thought that flashing odin thing had to do with rooting or something. thanks, i'll look into that... one thing though is she just got the newest ota update last night and that didn't fix the problem. is that a bad sign that this might not work?

You can flash the stock firmware with odin without root.
Not necessarily, if there's a corrupted system file the ota simply may not have patched it, or patched a different part of it leaving the root cause of the problem intact. Keep in mind, my suggestion may not help at all. Its just another option for you in trying to find a fix.

I have the stock ROM, hardly modified except root and busybox. My updates download but do not install, saying the device has been modified. That's all fine and dandy, but WHERE does it download the update.zip so I can apply it using Mobile Odin? I hate downloading whole firmwares due to a shaky internet connection. Or a way to disable the message about modification?
If you downloaded with a browser look for a folder named download either in internal or on sd.

You can't locate it in routine folder, as it saves in fota folder, and once it failed it may not be available longer there.
Even supposed it will be there (you need to reroot to find it) and find it, it surely won't work with Mobile odin, so don't waste your time.
This can happens when your device is priory rooted, even it can't be solve with unroot
You have to factory reset, even after factory reset it's not guaranteed.
Try this
-clear data from setting - application manager - all - software update (you will find two), after clearing data reboot and check for update
If still not work
-factory reset and check
If still not works
-flash any older rom you have already downloaded with pc odin, then it should work

What do you mean by "priory rooted'?
if you have rooted in past and later unrooted.
Update The likely culprit, at least for the "install button" problem, appears to be an app called Velis Auto Brightness. A little over three weeks after this problem first arose, I switched my ROM to Dandroid. In deciding what apps gradually to add back, I ran across comments like the following for Velis:
Cannot press install from an APK Found a bug that needs fixing. With this app enabled for some reason installing from an APK it renders the Install button useless but the cancel button still works. As soon as I disabled this App, the Install button worked again.

Nice, but one slight issue I really like this app. Very useful and easy to use. My only issue is that when the app is active, if I turn off system auto brightness and try to raise the brightness, Velis overrides this and forces auto brightness.

A couple of weeks ago, DocHoliday77 helped me troubleshoot a problem with my install button not working. Unfortunately, the only cure short of starting from scratch turned out to be restoring an earlier nandroid.
More recently, the telephone function stopped working. More precisely, whatever number I input, the phone tries to call 333223.
This led me to reinstall Stockorama v2 from scratch. That is, before installing the Stockorama zip I did a factory reset, wiped cache, and wiped davlik cache. After the installation, I waited 10+ minutes before beginning to use the phone and individually reinstalling programs with Titanium Backup. About a day later (and, foolishly, before I made a post-clean-install nandroid), the install button again stopped working.
Also, Titanium Backup "disappeared." I use quotation marks because when I try to download the app from the Play Store I get an error message suggesting that, even though I can't see it, it's still there.
So, I'm caught between the rock of my current setup--the phone works but I can't install new apps or use Titanium Backup-- and the hard place of my earlier nandroid--I have access to Titanium Backup and can install apps, but I can't make outgoing calls.
Is there a fix short of abandoning Stockorama? If I do abandon it, is there a stable, close cousin worth trying?
Thanks in advance.

If you restore apps that you didn't download from the play store or from the internet (APKs) then your going to run into problems.
That's why I asked which apps you are restoring. If you're restoring system apps from another ROM, then that's you're problem.

Except insofar as the system apps were included in the Stockorama zip, I've not tried to restore any. The apps restored from a TB backup were all non-system apps. By way of example: At Bat, Alarm Clock Xtreme, Amazon, Kindle, Any.do, App of the Day, Amazon Appstore, Authenticator, avast Mobile, Barcode Scanner, BatteryGuru, BBC News, Beautiful Widgets, BetterBatteryStats, CacheMate for Root, Camera ZOOM FX, Cardio Trainer, Chrome, Clueful, Cool Reader, Dashlane, Dropbox, DuckDuckGo, Evernote, F-Droid, Facebook, feedly, Flickr, GasBuddy, Gem Spinner, Gravity Screen, Hi App Lock, K-9 Mail, Lookout, mSecure, Nandroid Manager, Netflix, Nova Prime, NYTimes, Open Table, Pixlr Express, Quickoffice, QuickPic, Roku, ROM Manager, Root Explorer, ShopSavvy, Snapseed, Talkatone, Trello, TripAdvisor, TWRP Manager, WhatsApp, Wunderlist, Yelp.
But did you restore any data to the system apps? Such as accounts, contacts, settings?
If you did the data may be corrupted or incompatible.

Also, if any of those other apps you listed have been carried over for a while (as in, you first backed up on ics, and have continued to backup and restore building on that first backup ypu will have data that was modified across multiple builds and or roms)
There is a point where it is sometimes best to just start clean again. Just keep the backup in case you need some data from it. I know its not what anyone wants to hear, but it is sometimes the best solution

The only why i can see here is corrupted/bad backups. And while it would be possible to hunt down the culprit, it could take quite a long time considering how many apps you have. I think at this point its best to just start fresh. Its difficult to speculate on what is actually happening underneath it all to cause the behavior. Youd have to start grabbing logcats and really analyzing exactly what is happening. The reason I'm not recommending this is the time involved in doing this, and the fact that in the end you'd most likely end up having to start fresh again anyway.

Barring other advice, I guess I'll start from scratch, including downloading a fresh copy of Stockorama.
Besides doing a factory reset and wiping cache and davlik cache, is there anything else I should do to prepare the phone for a clean install?

Before attempting a clean reinstall of Stockorama V2, I want to be clear on what that means and how to do it.

As I understand it, I begin with the following steps:
Backup IMEI
Factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
Does the order matter? Should I also Wipe Data? Anything else to prepare for a clean install?
Do I need to back up the IMEI separately from the EFS Backup I made when installing Stockorama? That created an efs.img file, which now exists on both my internal and external sdcards.
I've redownloaded STOCKORAMA_V2 and OTA_T999_UVDLJC_UVDMD5. Can I simply flash them in TWRP recovery? If not, why not and what should I do instead? Does the order matter?
When reinstalling Stockorama is there any reason not to install Google apps using the Aroma installer rather than from the Play Store?
Is there anything else I should do? I already have Nandroids of my phone with its current problem (can't install apps; "disappeared" Titanium Backup") and its former problem (whatever telephone number I input, the phone tries to call 333223)..
Concern has been expressed about corrupt data. I can recover my contacts and calendar from Google. Should I simply give up on everything else? If not, what's the best way to proceed. I have a TB backup on my external sdcard. But since TB is currently AWOL, does that suggest a problem and the desirability of an alternative strategy. If so, what?
Is there anything else I'm missing.
Thanks again for all the help.

If you have stock recovery, factory reset will wipe data, including internal sd. If on custom recovery it'll wipe everything but internal sd. I would go full wipe. We want to eliminate as many variables as possible. Backup internal sd to your computer as its most likely not included in your nandroid.

Yes, the imei is not on efs and just backing that up will not do. Heres what to do:
Open Terminal Emulator and enter this:
Su
Reboot nvbackup
The phone will reboot and create an on device backup of your NV Data, including IMEI. This backup only needs to be done once. Its kept in a protected area where odin/recovery flashing won't overwrite it. There is a way to create a backup you can keep on your pc too. PM me for instructions to do that, though I don't believe it necessary.
I've redownloaded STOCKORAMA_V2 and OTA_T999_UVDLJC_UVDMD5. Can I simply flash them in TWRP recovery? If not, why not and what should I do instead? Does the order matter?

The OTA is no good to you unless you Odin flash the LJC firmware first. Just odin the MD5 firmware (root66) and be done with that part. Good idea to redownload the rom though. Everything you need to know on the OTA is in the firmware thread.
Odin MD5 (root66) then install revovery, then flash rom.
When reinstalling Stockorama is there any reason not to install Google apps using the Aroma installer rather than from the Play Store?

Not sure about this. My guess is either way is fine.

First make sure everything runs ok clean. If you want to restore more data, you can but don't do it all at once. Few things at a time. Then when the problem comes back you'll have an idea as to the cause. Or just get your critical stuff back and forget the rest (what I'd do).
Anything more and I think your being over cautious. Just start clean and take it step by step. You have your data if the need for it ever arises correct?

Not if you want the full update. M.O. doesn't flash things like sbl's, rpm, aboot, tz. Once you pc odin the firmware, mobile odin will be fine to use. I actually highly recommend it!
Triangle away after flashing the stock kernel and recovery but before unrooting. Generally, I flash the full firmware, then triangle away, then unroot and final factory reset.

I recently got in the buisness of messing with my android phone's rom. Long stories short, during my attempt at flashing Cyanogen mod(which didn't work) some of my drivers got uninstalled. I can tell because of a few symptoms.
First, my phone will not see my sim card. It isn't the sim card(Ive checked) and I've narrowed it down to my efs folder is blank. I think this is because of a missing driver. I have no imei number or anything like that
Also, media just doesn't play. I can not hear anything as well as the media just flat out doesn't play. Youtube and any other app/browser just cannot get it to play anything.
These are the noticable things. I think its because of the drivers. Ive tried flashing new roms including stock. Problem is that im limited to 4.3 roms and above because I have samsung's new 4.4 locked bootloader. Any ideas?
PS I have the Samsung Galaxy s3 from AT&T. model number is SGH-I747
PSS This is my second post so sorry if it is in the wrong catagory or if anything is wrong. Im a newbie to this forum
Have you tried this?

No I have not created any sort of backup of the necesary files. Yes, I know that I should have, but I had no idea about these folders before I started to play with my rom. Definitely a lesson learned.
If you read further into it, it tells you how to get your imei back even without a backup

I tried to download the documents, but it wouldn't work. It gave me an overtraffic error from Dropbox. Although this might fix one issue, I do not think that I have a lost imei, since other things are not working as well. I still believe that my phone is missing drivers.
I don't believe it is a driver issue. The first thing you need to do is install terminal emulator from the play store and enter the following:
getprop ro.bootloader
If, and ONLY IF it says you are on NE4, try flashing the NE4 modem. You can get it from my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53627484
If you are on any other firmware build, find and flash the modem thst matches that build. (If the getprop command says you have MJB firmware, flash the MJB modem)
If you still have problems, flash the same firmware as you currently have via odin and factory reset. Backup first though!! This will wipe all your data including the internal sd.
(DO NOT FLASH OLDER FIRMWARE!!!! Only the same or newer as what you currently have!)
Explanation: if you have an incompatible modem installed, it will usually show unknown for your baseband and imei. This can also cause the EFS folder to appear blank. The reason your media won't play is because drm content relies on the contents of the EFS, so if its blank/cant be read, most media will not play.
Also if the wrong modem is installed, it will not be able to read your SIM card.
If after flashing the modem, and the full firmware you still have these problems, and your IMEI is not properly showing, PM me and I can help you further.
I followed what the other post said. I installed the modem and everything worked. However, then my wifi didn't work. I then installed this http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=f...bd88b6557ee11c9f89f1cb9a8013a0e6a640e15f746e7 using TWRP (CWM works as well, tho haven't tried it). After that, I wiped all cache (Dalvik and normal) and did a factory reset. It worked like a charm. I am so happy, now I can go back to the phone I love!!! Any more questions, just post it or pm me. Thanks for all who help
