[Q] Keeps resetting, even on different ROM. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

My phone started resetting by itself today. I was rooted on a ICS ROM I believe and now just unrooted to a JB ROM. Could this still be a software issue?

Did you flash anything? What rom /modem/kernel have you tried wiping and doing a fresh flash?

I was rooted on a stock ROM I believe then the reboots started. I installed this http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=148 using ODIN.

If you have virgin mobile use Odin to flash stock rooted gb28 if sprint flash GB27 start fresh again I think your phone is miss behaving because of this.

So this is most likely a hardware issue?

Most likely.
My power button is really sensitive. Barely tapping the power button my phone ends up resetting itself.

Take it to Sprint ASAP. This happened to me a few months after getting my phone and I got it replace right there the same day. If they try to screw you saying "the phone has a chip on the screen we can't test it out and take it apart" blah blah blah. Throw in there that the phone overheats while charging and when in use and they will change their tune quickly. When the S2 came out I got one that got extremely hot when charging almost to the point of blistering my hand without the battery cover. I took it back and they replaced it quick as hell lol. When I took it in for the power issue i had a small chip in the corner of my screen and they refused to replace the phone because they couldnt test the power button thing due to not being able to take apart the screen without causing further damage to the phone. They wouldn't budge even though I had issurance since day 1. Decided to tell them about the overheating issue and the tech told me hold on and came back in 5 minutes with a new white one (I had a black one) and I left the same day. Black was on backorder for 14 days and I was not going to have a phone that kept rebooting making it basicly useless for 2 weeks.
TL;DR Take it to Sprint ASAP. The Fix is free and mention it overheats to extreme temps and it'll be replace on the spot or when they receive a replacement from sprint. 3 days max.

Yeah it sounded like hardware for sure and if the fresh install didn't work your power button is jacked. "Graydiggy" +1

Phone won't boot, vibrates

I cannot turn on my phone at all, the Samsung logo comes up, screen blacks out and the phone just vibrates once every couple of seconds. If I'm lucky the phone will sometimes boot up but freezes and turns back off. It's nearly impossible for me to boot into recovery and do anything as the phone shuts off seconds later. Anyone have any advice, I've looked all over and only found one other person with this problem and no fix
Are you doing the combo correctly, release power after vibrate continue holding volume keys? Did you drop the phone causing this? Try pulling battery first then try recovery

yeah, that thread had helpful info. i tried the one guy's suggestion of gently working a tiny flat-head screwdriver around the power button, and it fixed my issue.
hopefully it won't come back too often, but at least i know what it is (faulty power button) and can send it in for repairs if need be. at this point, i'm just relieved i have another chance to backup my data!
well, the issue came back, and working a screw driver around the button isn't solving the problem. it'll go away for a very short period of time, and then come back.
more recently, i've started losing settings for open apps when the phone reboots randomly. freaking awesome. just lost my handcent settings, and can't figure out where the config file/db is so i can restore it from a backup. looks like i'll have to spend another hour or more fully customizing the blasted thing again.
Its gotta be a bad motherboard I had same issue and Samsung warranty it out and fixed it for free or you can find em on eBay i just bought a used one for 90 and works perfect

It sounds like he sent the phone off to a place that could recover the phone using a JTAG programmer.

I think CM 10.1 killed my GS-III

Since December I've been running CM10 on my GS-III with little to no issues. I flash CM 10.1 mid January and even though it was an unstable nightly it was very stable.
Flashing the nightlies as they became available with no issues at all.
Then today my phone starts slowing down and froze up.
Keep in mind that I hadn't flashed a nightly in like a day or 2 do I had been using the past nightly as a daily driver.
When my phone decided to freeze I rebooted it and it booted just fine.
About 2 minutes in the screen goes black. Holding the power button it's unresponsive.
Now my phone is completely unresponsive to all button presses. I've tried the 3 button combos for recovery and download mode with no luck. I've even held the buttons for a full minute but nothing is working.
Is my phone dead or is there a possibility of resurrecting it?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Are you positive the battery hasn't died. That would be the first thing I would check. Even if it showed it was charging doesn't mean the battery is good. I'm not trying to be insulting either by asking this. I'm a equipment tech at a large semiconductor company and you wouldn't believe the number of times the fix was as simple as turning a breaker back on when another tech wanted to replace something major. #1 rule of troubleshooting: Is there power. #2 rule: Double check rule #1. Sounds silly, but it is the easiest thing to overlook. Good luck and I hope it's as simple as a battery.

No you're not insulting by asking that. I use to record music and when something wasn't wasn't working that's the first thing we asked and re asked.
Unfortunately I do believe I checked that out. When I plug in a charger it doesn't even show me a battery charging logo.
I have noticed that when I pull out the battery and connect the charger the led turns red.
I'll see if i can't swap batteries with one of my friends and see if that helps.

I have tried the 3 button combos for T-Mobiles variant of the GS-III with no luck either.... I even tried making a jig and didn't have much luck....
Next step is to buy a jig and see if that works
Thankfully I got a replacement GS-III from insurance. So I'm content... Also since I get to keep the other GS-III as well it feels even nicer.

Now my next step is to attempt to hope that the jig will do something for my phone.

Flash STOCK or different ROM (Don't forget kernel too) think the issue is with the Cyanogenmod, mine did something similar, when screen went dark it took literally 5-10 Power button presses to wake the phone up, sometimes it wouldn't respond, other soft keys only would light up, Make backup, Wipe, install, check everything, that what I would do

The phone is dead. My friend's gs3 died suddenly one day while I just happen to be using it. I plugged in an otg plug and few minutes later the screen just went black. I was sure it was dead when I plug in a charger and there was no sign of life from the phone.
I don't know if you have to pay a deductible but Samsung is supposedly replacing galaxy s3 for free because there is a known defect which cause the motherboard to go bad. My friend's was a Verizon model and they just replaced it free.

[Q] Horrible Customer Service. HTC wont charge.

Hi,
I am having a problem with my new HTC ONE. The phone ran out of battery so died, but wouldn't charge again - the charge light didnt come on, and so it won't turn on anymore. I didn't do anything to it I SWEAR
However I sent it to HTC Repair as they said it can be fixed under warranty and they sent it back to me in 10 days but it still didn't work. So I called up and they said send it to them again and now they said its a damage not under warranty. So they want £264 for repair! or £26 to return it. What should I do?
Is there any chance they'll fix it for free/give me a new one, or shall I just pay £26 and try get it fixed elsewhere? I read online about how awful the customer service for the repair centre is but now its too late, they may have already purposely damaged my phone :'( I am so sad
:crying::crying:

Has anybody else experienced this same issue at all? Is the hardware of the HTC ONE actually not good enough for its software or something? I would be disappointed yet not surprised...

I had this issue right out of the box. Phone wouldn't show that it was charging and I couldn't get it to turn on at all. I was going to return it when I found a thread with a customer service rep troubleshooting this issue with a customer. What ended up working for me was keeping the phone plugged in for a couple hours then holding power and both volume up and down together (while the phone is plugged in) for 2 1/2 minutes (the customer service rep said it could take up to 5 minutes, so hang in there!). Magically, my phone booted up and that was that. From what I could gather, the phone goes into this state when it goes into a super low battery state, but I don't know for sure.

Phone died to 0%. Now it won't charge. Help?

My phone had strange battery behavior throughout the day yesterday. It discharged much quicker than usual. I charged it to 50%before bed and left it off the charger overnight.
This morning i woke up to a black screen, and a phone that won't charge. I tried a few different cords, outlets and other sources of power.
Anything i can try to fix this? I ordered a replacement, is there anything i can do to hide my s-off? I'm afraid I'm going to get charged for my replacement because I'm s-offed with a custom rom.

This sounds like a familiar problem with TWRP recoveries.... It sounds like you had an old version of CWM that may be broken with off mode charging.... Unfortunately your only chance may be to leave the phone on the charger for a day and see if it goes far enough tht you can get the phone to boot.

And he'd already have a replacement by then. If it takes a charge, it will probably boot. But without it booting up, pretty sure they can't see anything.

All they would have to do is put a new battery in it and turn it on, and then see its s-off. Which is what they WILL do in order to resell it as a refurb.

If you go through the carrier they can back charge your bill for voiding your warranty (exception being if this is an accidental damage exchange, in which case he will be charged a deductible). If he went through HTC he wont have a replacement by then unless he puts a deposit down on an advanced replacement, which he most likely wont get back when they see S-OFF/Unlocked.

Thank you for understanding how the replacement process works.

If Verizon back charged for issues like this, there would be more than a dozen threads warning of it. Do a search. Many people have had phones unable to boot and have successfully gotten warranty replacements. Not a single one has yet to be back charged (or there would be a thread). If his phone boots he won't have to worry about it because there's no point in sending it in. If he sends it to HTC and they are able to get it to boot to see it is unlocked (S-off alone does not break warranty) they will notify him before any charges and send the phone back. At this point he will know the phone is able to boot up. Problem solved.
Edit: probably came off like a ****...not my intention at all. It's a community here and we're all just trying to help each other out.

So I'm at the mercy of the person that receives the phone?
Got a bad feeling I'm gonna get charged some ridiculous amount of money

So you weren't ever able to get it to boot by doing anything? There's been plenty of people on here who have gotten a replacement from Verizon because they've bricked their phone. I'm pretty positive you'll be fine. There would be threads on here already if Verizon was back charging.

Nope. Left it on the charger for 12+ hrs. Held the power button down for 5+ minutes, held power and vol buttons the same time length.

Sounds weird but people have mentioned trying the power button and or power + vol down under a bright light. Something to do with the light sensor. Worth a shot at least.
