I cannot turn on my phone at all, the Samsung logo comes up, screen blacks out and the phone just vibrates once every couple of seconds. If I'm lucky the phone will sometimes boot up but freezes and turns back off. It's nearly impossible for me to boot into recovery and do anything as the phone shuts off seconds later. Anyone have any advice, I've looked all over and only found one other person with this problem and no fix
Are you doing the combo correctly, release power after vibrate continue holding volume keys? Did you drop the phone causing this? Try pulling battery first then try recovery

yeah, that thread had helpful info. i tried the one guy's suggestion of gently working a tiny flat-head screwdriver around the power button, and it fixed my issue.
hopefully it won't come back too often, but at least i know what it is (faulty power button) and can send it in for repairs if need be. at this point, i'm just relieved i have another chance to backup my data!
well, the issue came back, and working a screw driver around the button isn't solving the problem. it'll go away for a very short period of time, and then come back.
more recently, i've started losing settings for open apps when the phone reboots randomly. freaking awesome. just lost my handcent settings, and can't figure out where the config file/db is so i can restore it from a backup. looks like i'll have to spend another hour or more fully customizing the blasted thing again.
Its gotta be a bad motherboard I had same issue and Samsung warranty it out and fixed it for free or you can find em on eBay i just bought a used one for 90 and works perfect

Power button could be stuck again. I fixed mine my flicking it with my finger every second and finally my phone would start up again. Guess screw driver would have been easier, haha. Would work for a month then the same issue would start again. Do you happen to use a D30 case?

Well. .
My phone flashes once (quickly) when it shuts off with no battery. It doesn't happen to me anytime I shut it off or restart it.
I guess my question is: If I take the phone apart, can I get to the power button? Earlier today my phone started rebooting itself like it had been hard reset (power button for 8 seconds..) and wouldn't even make it past the "Galaxy SII" screen before it reset again. I ruled out any software problem after I got rough with the power button and it stopped. But, now when I lock or unlock my screen the power button gets stuck again and causes the endless resets. I'm wondering if I can take my phone apart and mess with the power button from the inside to maybe clear things up a little. Hope I explained that clearly enough. Thanks for any help!

Sadly, no.
Maybe just have them fix the power button!
Woke up today and my power button is somewhat unresponsive (could not get phone to wake up) . I wasn't sure what was going on so I thought maybe it was software related. I tried to Odin OC to el26, el29 and even ek02 with nothing but FAILS. I then used Odin to do a successful manual restore the el26 kernel. Once I was in the el26 kernel the power button is still unresponsive but I can still navigate through the menu. I cannot install any rooms but I can restore backups.
Can I do something to restore the ability to Odin OC?

Why take the chance unless you cant afford it?
Makes absolutely no sense why ff18 would work and nothing else would.

It sounds almost like your power button got stuck in the depressed position and all your attempts to use it got it freed up. Have you gotten anything sticky on it? Spilled soda or food on your hands etc? If you have the knowledge and skills to take the housing apart, I would take it apart and use a small amount of high% rubbing alcohol, preferably 90%+ and clean the internals of your power button and the exterior of the button itself as well as the housing inside and around the power button port. I had something similar happen on my og evo when my oldest son got jelly fingers all over it and some jelly got in-between the housing and power button and when it dried it got stuck to where it was really hard to press, I took it apart and cleaned it with alcohol and now its like new you'd never know it was ever stuck. It could also have gotten some pocket lint, dust or sand/dirt in there causing it to get jammed so cleaning it may be a good option anyways. Even if you clean it and it occurs again you can eliminate that as a source and then look at potential hardware issue/failure or software issues. Usually the power button goes out from physical damage from pressing it so many times using recovery and waking the phone, and pressing it too hard when trying to use Odin mode or recovery, I've seen several threads around here from ppl having the same issue where their button broke from heavy use.

Since December I've been running CM10 on my GS-III with little to no issues. I flash CM 10.1 mid January and even though it was an unstable nightly it was very stable.
Flashing the nightlies as they became available with no issues at all.
Then today my phone starts slowing down and froze up.
Keep in mind that I hadn't flashed a nightly in like a day or 2 do I had been using the past nightly as a daily driver.
When my phone decided to freeze I rebooted it and it booted just fine.
About 2 minutes in the screen goes black. Holding the power button it's unresponsive.
Now my phone is completely unresponsive to all button presses. I've tried the 3 button combos for recovery and download mode with no luck. I've even held the buttons for a full minute but nothing is working.
Is my phone dead or is there a possibility of resurrecting it?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Are you positive the battery hasn't died. That would be the first thing I would check. Even if it showed it was charging doesn't mean the battery is good. I'm not trying to be insulting either by asking this. I'm a equipment tech at a large semiconductor company and you wouldn't believe the number of times the fix was as simple as turning a breaker back on when another tech wanted to replace something major. #1 rule of troubleshooting: Is there power. #2 rule: Double check rule #1. Sounds silly, but it is the easiest thing to overlook. Good luck and I hope it's as simple as a battery.

No you're not insulting by asking that. I use to record music and when something wasn't wasn't working that's the first thing we asked and re asked.
Unfortunately I do believe I checked that out. When I plug in a charger it doesn't even show me a battery charging logo.
I have noticed that when I pull out the battery and connect the charger the led turns red.
I'll see if i can't swap batteries with one of my friends and see if that helps.

Well unfortunately the spare battery i used on my phone was no good in getting the phone to respond.
Now my next step is to attempt to hope that the jig will do something for my phone.
If not i guess that i will have a nice paper weight of luxury lol
Either that or i can sell it to someone.
So far those are the only options that i think i have at the moment.

Flash STOCK or different ROM (Don't forget kernel too) think the issue is with the Cyanogenmod, mine did something similar, when screen went dark it took literally 5-10 Power button presses to wake the phone up, sometimes it wouldn't respond, other soft keys only would light up, Make backup, Wipe, install, check everything, that what I would do

The phone is dead. My friend's gs3 died suddenly one day while I just happen to be using it. I plugged in an otg plug and few minutes later the screen just went black. I was sure it was dead when I plug in a charger and there was no sign of life from the phone.
I don't know if you have to pay a deductible but Samsung is supposedly replacing galaxy s3 for free because there is a known defect which cause the motherboard to go bad. My friend's was a Verizon model and they just replaced it free.
