Hi everybody, I've been googling and looking into all the posts (here in xda) I could related to my problem.
Currently I'm in Nepal, and bought a second hand One X International version; the unit was barely used with very minor wear signs. A couple of weeks ago I was driving on the road and it started pouring rain, made it home in about 5 mins. Phone did not appear to have gotten very wet, however I took the silicon case of and dried the screen with a piece of cloth. I forgot to turn the phone off and as everything seemed fine, I continued using it for the next couple of days.
Two weeks later I start getting complains from people I was on the phone with stating that they could barely hear me, but oddly enough at times they mic volume went up and all the sudden they could hear me crystal clear.
If I turn the phone into speaker mode then they can hear me, the same happens with headphones.
Tried getting rid of stock Sense (not sure what version I had, I know it was JB 4.1.1 and Sense 4+), flashed IceColdJelly 3.5.1
Also left the phone off in rice for about 2 days (it was too late to do it but tried it anyways)
My phone does not have warranty and I'm reluctant to send it into a Repair Center here as I've heard friends and their terrible experiences with them in here.
So I decided to open my phone to see if the MIC was clogged/dirty or something (plus I have the WiFi signal issue) but everything on the inside seems fine. The phone itself seems to have never been open.
The MIC still sounds muffled (no it is not completely dead), tried the stock android Sound Recorder and barely pics up my voice if I speak directly into it.
Could it be a software issue? If not, how can I test and know which MIC I need to buy???
Any help, tips or thoughts will be much appreciated!!!
P.S. I also tried doing a Factory Reset. Nothing changed
problem apparently solved
so last night I managed to restore the phone into it's original state with a nandroid backup. Haven't been able to fully check the issue properly because I did not put the phone back the bezel yet. But now volume in video recording is normal, and have been told that I can be heard on a call

A few weeks ago, I noticed a metallic sound while making a phone call, that not only made it difficult to hear what the person on the other end said, but it was also pretty painful to listen when they talked. Earlier the same day, I had received a phone call with no issues. Nothing special had happened to the phone during the day that I know of that should have led to this.
Over the following few weeks, call quality have varied a lot. In the beginning, this problem never occured when I was on the receiving end of the call - only when I was the one who made the call. My calls consistently had this problem, however. Then after a few days, I would start to get the metallic sound when I received calls as well, but not right away. Now I get it pretty much all the time, no matter who made the call, and I'm having to resort to earphones to be able to have a proper phone call.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
have you flashed a new sense 3.0 rom and not flashed the corresponding radio
bc if you didn't flash the radio designed for that rom base you would get metallic or tinny sounds and they dont seem as magnified when using a bluetooth headset or ear buds
If you have rooted your phone and installed a new ROM, try flasing a radio and RIL suggested..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295
But if it is stock...better take it to the service center
It's the stock ROM, haven't even rooted it yet (figured it would be a bad idea to do it before I got the problem fixed). Problem is that I won the phone, and I have no idea where it was bought, so I'd probably end up having to pay for getting it fixed, which I'd rather not But if no one has any idea what could be wrong (when it's stock), I guess I don't have much of a choice..
A couple months ago my HTC One M8 started entering the headphone mode even there were no headphones plugged in. And as I coulnd't fix the problem by myself I went to the next Hutchison 3 store where I also got my phone from. Long story short : No warranty and they want 250 € for fixing the problem and they also told me that the headphone jack was broken. And since 250 € is way too much for me they returned my phone without any fixing. So I ordered this
http://www.amazon.de/Original-HTC-Connector-Ladebuchse-Microfon/dp/B00NP0XINI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420751805&sr=8-1&keywords=htc+one+m8+ladebuchse
from amazon and made a DIY transplantation . Since then everything was ok and everything worked properly but a couple days ago the same problem came back again and only if I hold the phone up like I usually do (with two hands like if I'm texting, for example) but if it's flat (on a table for example), everything works how it should.
Did somebody had the same problem or knows how to fix it ? And sorry for my bad english
Regards, Talpeš
Don't have a solution for this but this happened on my m7 when I had it, was told the sensor that detects when headphones are plugged in might have gotten wet. It eventually started working normal again and never did it again, I guess it had moisture and I had to let it dry up. Don't think this is your problem but just in case it might help
Well thank you. But when I look back it rained once on it last summer but only a few drops and it might be that what you said about the sensor but anyway thank you . And did your m7 work again without any issues or did you have to open your phone and dry it or change something?

Just got my brand new m8 and after using it a bit I noticed the top boomsound speaker wasnt working. Tried some basic troubleshooting and using it in different apps in no avail. I can hear someone in a phone call no problem though, but if I use the speakerphone or use the phone to play music or something like that it doesn't seem to be working (or maybe be extremely quiet??).
I haven't tweaked the phone yet in any way, completely stock Android 6.0 that it shipped with.
Edit: The top speaker works but it is much, much more quiet than the bottom.
I'm really hoping this is a software issue, any way I can test that out?
Bump. Can someone running marshmallow please test this out real quick for me? Play this on max volume and see if left is considerably quieter than right - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvJoYnpeRQ
Thanks guys! Gotta love that over a hundred people that saw this and couldn't take about 30 seconds out of their day to try this out for me
Anyways I'm probably sending the phone back. Gonna have to go back to struggling with my old HTC One S while I wait for a replacement.
Actually I'm having a very similar issue.
My phone had perfect speakers since I got it but recently it fell face down and the display went boom! No cracks anywhere though.
The service guys replaced the display but now the top speaker had a very loud crackling, at the max volume level only, when playing deep bass, still loud.
So I take it to service again and this time they made the top speaker very very quiet but the crackling was gone.
I asked them to fix it but they said it's always been like that.
After struggling for some 15 minutes they agreed to look into it. They tell me that they've replaced the top speaker module but the sound is still low.
I can even test the issue using the help app, hardware diagnostics.
Now I don't know how to get it fixed.
Looking for feedback from people that have had to mail out their Razer phone for warranty work. How long did it take to get it back?
I'm thinking about mailing mine off vs trying to fix it myself.
The issue I'm having is my speakers are crackling, even post "audio update" that reduced volume by around 30%. I can't get above 3\4 volume without having the speakers start crackling. What's strange is the crackle seems to be worse when orienting the phone to the side vs upright.
Both of them are doing it. Not sure if they are just dirty or they are blown, but when I first got my phone I would play most things at full volume often. I thought about pulling the speaker grills off since I read that sometimes the adheasive loosens and things vibrate but I wasn't sure how I was going to re stick them back down. Can't find replacement grills anywhere. Or replacement speakers for that matter. So I was going to send it in.

11 days round trip to Germany from UK ended up with factory replacement
The first time i sent my phone there it took 4 days to come back but the second time it took around 10 days. I asked why and they said "limited supplies" now i had sent 2 phones and both had speaker problems. The first was a heavily cracking bottom speaker after 3 weeks of use. The second one was both speakers weakening but not cracking and the third one has the same problem which is weird given that they advertized the speakers as good. Hopefully they fix this because i wanna buy razer phone 2
Hey XDA!
I've during the past couple of weeks been getting complaints over my call quality from receivers. Now, as it's getting colder outside and I tuck my phone under my hat while making a phone call, my friends could no longer stand the horrible sound my phone was making.
After some research, having used WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, the built in phone call app - all same result.
I've come to the conclusion that my phone uses the back microphone (the one inbetween the camera and the flash) at all times. When I called myself from my friends phone, the quality is poor. It's really bad. I can hear echoing, I hear people several meters away who aren't talking to the phone, talk.
My phone should be using the bottom microphone, right? I cannot imagine this is the standard quality of the phone call.
I bought my 5T on release, so around 1 year ago now. I'm on 8.1.0, latest update, no root.
What should I do and how should I proceed? Tried making a thread on the official OP forums but I don't have the permission (I did just create an account there so might take some time before I get that permission).
Thanks!
Hi I'm having the same issue. Did you resolve your problem?
