First I'd like to say that I am disappointed that I didn't patent such incredible engineering... It just seems so obvious now... Incredible..
Alright, back on topic. Has anyone with this battery run into problems with the case getting stretched? I've only had mine for like 2 days but I feel like it might be a problem...
I realize that there has to be some give so that it can be put on but the sides kind of bother me. The corners seem solid, though.
Thanks for your input

Mine has been solid since the day I got it. It is tight but has a little give when you take it off.

Has it gotten progressively worse? I haven't taken mine off since I put it on the first time.
Also I've been trying to wear the battery out to 0% for the first couple charges..I know Google tells me it does nothing but the instructions say to...so idk.
What did you do?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
I followed the instructions and my battery lasts for days. I trust what ZeroLemon tells me. Also, I mess with my case all the time and stretch it out and it always goes back to a strong tight form.

I'm about 5 days in now. I have not noticed any stretching, however, I do feel like it fits a bit loose.
For instance, when I am holding it towards the bottom end and I reach for the volume/power buttons
the whole thing kinda shifts. It isn't much, but it annoys me quite a bit. I plan on strategically using
bits of tape for a more uniform fit.

I sort of know what you mean.
It kind of bugs me to feel the phone at all :/ but nothing good comes without any consequences.
How about this 6x discharge thing? I'm managing to kill this battery in less than 24 hours, probably because of tethering.
I can't see myself getting 3 days out of this battery...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
The day I got the battery it was at 48%. I used it for a little more than 24 hours with that initial charge till it died and then charged for 13 hours. Off that charge I made it 3 days and 18 hours with 6 hours screen on and mostly streaming music. Right now I'm at 15 hours with 70% left which seems a little worse then before, but that's 6 hours straight streaming with ****ty sprint service. It would take a bit of effort for me to kill it in 24h.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I didn't even turn my phone on and charged it fully before using it, let it die completely (two days) , recharged it and ran it down until it died and recharged it....but when I got the green light and unplugged it... It was at 81%,which was yesterday. I plugged it back in to get it to 100 and unplugged it this morning and I'm at 34% with about 4 hours of tethering.
Espn streak for the cash app seems to absolutely destroy my battery...
I dunno if I'm doing it wrong, the numbers are where they should be or zerolemon has some lemons...
I don't know if I should charge it tonight or try and get 6 full discharges... I heard it doesn't matter but it couldn't hurt..? Except for the article that explained how that can actually hurt...
Fml, so complicated

I'd probably kill it in 12 hours or less using wireless tether and nothing else

Yeah I feel the same way. I tend to ignore it though, since I do have like 3 times more battery life now
How strictly did you follow their instructions to fully charge and discharge the battery 6 times before becoming more liberal with it? I feel like I need to charge tonight but I've only burned it down 2 times I think, maybe 3 hut I don't think so.

This is my 2nd S3. First ones home button stuck down and wouldn't come back up. That phone never got warm at all. I was wondering if this is a normal occurance on the S3. My phone now gets rather warm while surfing the net and checking email for about 10 minutes at a time. brightness is at auto (as was the first one) and all settings are as the first one was. Just wondering if I should do a warranty swap since I am now over my 30 day return mark.
Thank you all
AJ
Mine does the same thing. Most phones will get somewhat warm with heavy use, the S3 seems a little more susceptible to it, maybe because of how it's designed.

Mine will get warm as well. I haven't had it get hot except for when I use it for GPS in my car which is understandable considering I turn brightness all the way up with gps/data/wifi and have it charging at the same time.
Yep perdectly said thats the only time mine has gotten overly hot!

mine gets warm, never hot. I do notice that on this one it is, as I said, towards the bottom. The first one I had never got warm at all. I'm hoping I won't have to go return this one warranty wise. I love the phone. LOL. When I called ATT to ask them the question they said No it's not normal and to return it, then asked if I have heard about the Iphone 5 coming out LOL.
The chipset is in the bottom area underneath the simcard/sdcard slots.its normal for it to warm up.However if its superhot then no......usually massive heat will damage sone sdcards happens all the time at my store.

This darn thing just got so hot it shut itself off and all I was doing was texting LOL!
AJ
Mine gets warm when charging or both GPS/DATA are on.
Once, I got a "system is too hot" warning when I left it charging under a pillow.
I think it depends on how much you use it...some days, when I play games or watch Netflix for 20 minutes straight, it gets a little warm.

If the little white paper thing on the top of the battery turns pink or goes away completely does that only mean that it has been damaged by water? And does it make the battery any less better? And is there anyway maybe to fix it?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
I can't speak for whether there is a moisture indicator on the battery. What I can say is that even if the battery was wet at one point, as long as it was dried properly, it shouldn't impact the performance of the battery.
Yes that is a moisture indicator, but a little water shouldn't harm your battery. Mine turned pink from the 700% humidity we have here in the summers.

Ya I think my batteries may have gotten a little wet one day when they were in my backpack and it was raining on me and since then I kinda feel like they haven't been as great as before... but even the one that was in my phone hasn't been working so well either so it most likely is my phone I just have no idea what is it that's killing my battery.

batteries do degrade over time -- how long have you had the battery? there are many choices for battery replacements online as cheap as $5 depending on where you look.

NOT true... have you ever opened a battery to see the little ribbon with micro pieces on them? after a liquid is spilled on them it will corrode because there is no way of taking power away to let it dry the right way. if you get a battery damp there shouldn't be a problem. but wet and submerged are 2 different stories and you can risk frying your board from incorrect voltage being applied through the battery output.

Hence the reason I said "a little water". Obviously, submerging your phone for more than a second or 2 will lead to damage down the road, but getting a small amounts of liquid on a battery won't lead to immediate failure. RE: All of the people on here (including me) who have dropped their phone a pool, sink, toilet, etc and are still rocking the same phone.

I'd recommend just buying a new battery. I had my phone get completely wet before, I put both the phone and the battery in a ziplock bag full of rice and left it there for a couple days. Plugged the battery back in and it worked.
But buying a new battery would be the best bet to not further damage your phone.
I guess I will buy a new one just to test it out.
But I still feel like my phone is doing something wrong because I'm using my friends 3500mAh battery and it gives me the same results I used to get with my 1500 ones. I get a little more than 3 hours on screen time and about 20 hours total, which isn't so great for a 3500 battery. I'm gonna try going back to stock for a while and seeing what happens.

well not mine actually, but check the link. this is the first im hearing of anything like this...discuss
This is my first time posting so cut me some slack! Also not sure if this is the best place to post this.
Last night at about 3:15am EST (about 1 hour after i plugged it in and went to sleep) I was awoken by a loud noise and a weird squeaking sound. (I charge my phone while I'm sleeping on my bed right next to me)
So, I woke up, and saw a ton of smoke coming out of my phone -- it also smelled REALLY bad. Half asleep, I jumped out of bed and turned the light on, only to see that my phone was just beginning to go on fire. I dumped a glass of water I had in the room on it to stop it from burning...then woke up my brother to come help. The smoke smelled so bad and wafted through the entire second floor of my house. I had a foam mattress pillow top that had a hole burned through it too--which we later threw out because it was still burning throughout. Also, some of the plastic on my phone was melting and kind of shooting out of it, and some landed on my pinky finger and burned some skin off (very small burn though).
Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do? Call Verizon? Samsung? Have a lawyer call them? I'd also like to get some type of replacement phone in the meantime...
Here are the pictures
EDIT: People keep requesting pictures of the battery. Here they are
ALSO: To answer many questions: EVERYTHING was stock/Samsung that I had received when I purchased my phone. Stock battery, charger, etc. Additionally, my phone was NOT rooted.
Edit 2: Thanks so much for all of your comments and insight. The real big question here is -- Do you think I have an actual legal case? As in, a product liability case. Or, do you think I'm better off taking what the PR team will give me? (Perhaps, a new phone, new mattress, etc)? I did not suffer any TRULY substantial damages to myself or personal property. I am really tossed up on this...Any advice would be appreciated.

If there's even a case. Sounds like he just wants to be reimbursed for the phone and damage done to his bed. It also sounds like he doesn't even care about the burn to his finger.
If he does file a lawsuit, I sure hope his phone was stock (I have no idea how they would check now) and that he was using the stock battery. I'm sure samsung is going to bring up the wall charger and micro usb cable as well.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Im sorry, but in my opinion, things like this shouldnt always warrant a lawsuit. Does anybody really think that Samsung is guilty of wrongdoing here? Yeah it sucks and is scary that it happened, but just file an insurance claim to replace the bed and phone and move on with life.
How many GS3s have been sold now, plus all the extra batteries and only one has done this? Pretty good if you ask me.
Sounds like it was probably just a faulty battery or something like that.
Anyway, like I said its just my opinion and thought id share it.

Seems like in both cases of exploding iPod Touches, a lawsuit against Apple followed:
http://crave.cnet.co.uk/digitalmusic/apple-sued-after-ipod-touch-exploded-in-boys-trousers-49301555/
http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2013/02/apple-sued-for-exploding-ipod-touch.html
This actually happened to me also so I know what he is going through. I set my phone down to charge. I woke up about an hour later to a plastic burning smell. I grabbed my phone and it was literally melting. Not on fire, just extremely hot and I ended up burning my fingers. I immediately pulled the battery out. Let it cool off (the smell didn't go away) and then it powered back on and has been charging normally ever since. It's kinda scary to think what would happen if I didn't wake up and notice my phone almost blowing up.

Wasn't aware they got the 4.1.2 update. That's a bmer though on all accounts. I live in Phoenix AZ and we see nothing but triple digits from may til august and I've never felt burnt by my phone, I'm lucky to have resistant skin I guess.

Oh yes they got it months ago. But this happened while charging, in the air conditioning. So there was no reason for it to be that hot. When I turned it on there was no program in the battery list which was eating up the battery so it is very strange.

Well the headline gives it away guys!! OK so, I dropped my phone last week(I had a case on it, but its a cheap case off of Amazon)! Nothing happened to the screen, but the power button is now way more sensitive than it should be, and my E4GT heats up a lot quicker than it normally should! I have the Qcell battery! Is it the battery or the phone! Please let me know! Thanks again for all of your help!!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Where is the heat coming from? The bottom of the phone or top? If its the bottom I would say it might be the battery. If its the top I would say its the cpu. Are you overclocking? Are you playing any intensive games? Do you have an app that can read the temp of the battery?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
It's coming from the middle of the phone. I have an app telling me the temperature of the phone! So maybe its both!! I just barely got the battery on March 25, 2013! It's gone that quickly!
I'm under clocked at 800mHz through "Set CPU" on GB27. The other day I was outside and it hit 127°!!! Should i get a new battery, or a new phone?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
No I barely play games! I use Pandora a lot, but I listen to music through my HMDX speaker and its not in my pocket when listening to Pandora! Should I do a Factory Reset! My battery life decreased also!!

Ohh I fixed this problem. I ordered a hyperbion battery and used it for a couple weeks and realized the qcell is farrrr better. So I put the qcell in the fridge after charging it over night one time and left it in there and came back about 1-1 1/2 weeks later and swapped the batteries in the fridge. That seemed to fix it so I used the qcell until school started 2 weeks later. And the fridge made the hyperbion better than when I bought it

On release I got my D710 from Sprint and it was overheating too. It was super hot especially when I charged the phone without a battery cover. It literally almost burned me so I exchanged it at Sprint a few days after and they even hooked me up with a free oem battery. I think there's a bad batch of overheating S2s cause Sprint will replace it super fast if you tell them it's overheating too dangerous temps. That's how I got them to replace my phone when my power button broke. To top it off it was within warranty and I had insurance and they didn't want to replace because of power button issue until I said it was overheating lol.

I realize there's been other threads about the topic, but not this specific model and this situation. Specs...
Model: SPH-D710
Android Version: 4.1.2
Build: GB27
Anyway I haven't installed any new apps, obviously apps have been updating, but I haven't installed anything new recently. It started happening just over the past three days, the phone screen will flicker, like it's struggling to refresh then I'll loose cell phone signal, the screen will lock and then power off. When I try to power back on it shows the battery drained? I plug into a power source, let it set for a minute, it shows the correct charge and I can power it back on. It's happening roughly three times a day!
Aside from being annoying, yesterday I was on the road using it for navigation, and it crapped out. I had to find a rest-stop and do the recharge dance. Thank god I had a charger, otherwise.. well I'd have to find a gas station and ask someone, but really that's so barbaric right
So has anyone heard or seen this before? I'm hoping it doesn't mean I need a new phone, it's barely a year old. When it works I love this phone, but it's such a delicate POS sometimes, it really drives me nuts. Any help would be welcome

Glad to hear it's a battery issue, however I'd remiss if I didn't ask about this spinning battery diagnostic. So does the battery's casing expand when it's going bad, or getting older? Or were you just screwing with the new guy
Screwing with you. Just kidding. On these batteries when they start to swell you can aldo notice an effect on the charhe it holds. I forgot who actually found it out. But when you can spin it feely its going bad. A new battery will maybe get a turn or two.
