If the little white paper thing on the top of the battery turns pink or goes away completely does that only mean that it has been damaged by water? And does it make the battery any less better? And is there anyway maybe to fix it?

I can't speak for whether there is a moisture indicator on the battery. What I can say is that even if the battery was wet at one point, as long as it was dried properly, it shouldn't impact the performance of the battery.
Yes that is a moisture indicator, but a little water shouldn't harm your battery. Mine turned pink from the 700% humidity we have here in the summers.

Ya I think my batteries may have gotten a little wet one day when they were in my backpack and it was raining on me and since then I kinda feel like they haven't been as great as before... but even the one that was in my phone hasn't been working so well either so it most likely is my phone I just have no idea what is it that's killing my battery.
Thanks for your replies.

batteries do degrade over time -- how long have you had the battery? there are many choices for battery replacements online as cheap as $5 depending on where you look.

NOT true... have you ever opened a battery to see the little ribbon with micro pieces on them? after a liquid is spilled on them it will corrode because there is no way of taking power away to let it dry the right way. if you get a battery damp there shouldn't be a problem. but wet and submerged are 2 different stories and you can risk frying your board from incorrect voltage being applied through the battery output.

Hence the reason I said "a little water". Obviously, submerging your phone for more than a second or 2 will lead to damage down the road, but getting a small amounts of liquid on a battery won't lead to immediate failure. RE: All of the people on here (including me) who have dropped their phone a pool, sink, toilet, etc and are still rocking the same phone.

I'd recommend just buying a new battery. I had my phone get completely wet before, I put both the phone and the battery in a ziplock bag full of rice and left it there for a couple days. Plugged the battery back in and it worked.
But buying a new battery would be the best bet to not further damage your phone.
I guess I will buy a new one just to test it out.
But I still feel like my phone is doing something wrong because I'm using my friends 3500mAh battery and it gives me the same results I used to get with my 1500 ones. I get a little more than 3 hours on screen time and about 20 hours total, which isn't so great for a 3500 battery. I'm gonna try going back to stock for a while and seeing what happens.

So I was doing dishes and my I put my phone on the counter and accidently into a puddle. It wasn't in the puddle for long (only the back was in it) and I realized it, took the battery out right away and put it in rice for a few days. When I tried to turn it on, It booted up, but then shut off and stays off and I am unable to turn it back on. I tried again a couple days later and the same thing happened. Is the phone itself broken because of the water damage or is it just the battery? Any help is appreciated!
well batteries are cheap so i would start there and hope for the best. are the liquid damage stickers colored? on the battery or either of the ones on the phone?

They are red all of them, I am going to try and get a battery, do you think if I go into my carriers store or best buy they will let me try out a battery?
doubt it unless they have one out of the package. maybe try to find somewhere that sells used phones, if they have a g2/dz then maybe theyd let you (also a few other phones have batteries that fit)

Plug the charger in then boot it up. If the phone runs then probably the battery is fried.
By the way, did you dry the phone properly? I meant, did you put the phone in a rice bad or the battery?
Edit: But fried I meant damaged.
I put my nexus in the fridge/frezzer sometimes. That bad??? You know cool it off. Would that damage it???
Gets to hot that my ass would start to burn.
Lol, glad to hear I'm not the only one! Sometimes I do toss it in the fridge for 5-15 minutes after heavy usage. It gets pretty hot and my hands start to sweat.
...
Take the battery out and sit in down.

Tried that. It's get hot again in seconds once it boots. I just shove it in the fridge/freezer while it's on and it cools way faster.
If you let the battery cool by taking it out and it instantly gets hot there is something wrong with your phone.
Putting it in the freezer when it is very hot is also probably a bad idea.

Moisture content.
From a cold place to a warmer place would introduce moisture via condensation. Zap, zap, zap. Wheee!
Depending on duration and durability of course.
Yo could always seal it in a plastic bag and lock out everything else to prevent any moisture from entering.

I wouldn't suggest this, I do inventory for a fast food restaurant and I obviously walk in and out of the freezer in the process
I pulled out my thunderbolt to check something and it was acting laggy so I rebooted
After that it would not boot past the splash screen, but it would boot to the boot loader. If you haven't used a HTC phone before it has an option in the boot loader that displays hardware failures, and wouldnt you know it shorted out something that caused it not to boot
So now I leave my phone outside of the freezer
Also it shouldn't matter if the phone gets hot, it will shut off if its going to harm itself
Unless you are running a kernel with this safety feature disabled

Condensation -> water -> you know what will happen..
Edit:
Condensation -> Water -> Electricity from your battery -> Not pretty.
Aside from condensation...
Hot CPU components that are rapidly cooled and visa-versa = weakening of the solder...
Also going from high heat to very cold could cause rapid contraction of the case and maybe break the screen or something. Taking the battery out seems like a much better solution.

If the phone is getting so hot you feel that you have to put it in the freezer, then something is wrong with the phone. Try to have it replaced.
The only phone part I ever put in the freezer was my old EVO 4g battery because I accidentally let it run out completely and it would.not charge.

This too, there is a thread or two around that says their screen crack under the digitizer.
Guess I'LL leave it out from now on. Lol
So my kid reached in my pocket and dropped my phone in the toilet. i pulled it out fast, it didn't completely submerge, it's in a bowl of rice atm, how long should I wait to turn it on to see if my $600 just got flushed down the crapper.
To be safe I'd say a day or two. I've never been that patient though. Get some 90% + alcohol dip the phone in it then put it in rice wait a few hours that's always worked for me
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Last time I revived a fully submerged phone it was like three days. I also did the rice and phone bake in the oven. Wouldn't recommend that unless you figure the phone is toast to start with lol but here it is. Glass bowl, submerge phone in rice, bake on lowest setting of oven taking out often to let cool a little, bake time about an hour. Remove battery, sim, and SD card before baking. When done baking pour everything into zip lock bag for two days. You probably think I'm crazy but this worked on my daughters phone after she dove into a pool with it then tried to turn it on while it was still dripping water. This was on a desire z so not sure how our screen will react to that much heat.

I would opt for this method over baking, every oven is different and you run a risk of melting the soldier and causing irreversible damage if it gets too hot. The most important thing about electronic devices getting wet is removing the electrical current ASAP (if possible pull the battery!!!). Other than corrosion, the only problem with water any electronic device has is electrical shorts burning up the circuitry. Once electricity is removed from the equation, alcohol isn't anymore harmful than water, and in fact will evaporate (including the water) much quicker, which in turn reduces the chance of corrosion. That being said, although i am impatient as well i would still give a good day, 24 hours, in a nice rice bath. Just make sure there is no visible liquid before attempting to power on the device, personally i would pull the back cover off and unscrew the back side of the case exposing the main board just to get a better look but not everyone is going to be comfortable with that.
What i did that worked:
Get a ziplock back filled it with rice. Put your phone without Battery, sim, sd card, backplate in the bag with rice. Set the bag with contents on the top of your refrigerator where it is slightly warm, let it sit for 48 hours. Take it out after 48 hrs (it should have all the moisture out of the phone at this point) put the battery, sim, sd, etc back in and fire it up. Cross your fingers at this point
Best bet jar/ bowl of rice,, pull sim sd card put BOTH batt and phone into rice!!! batt has a chip in it, wait for at LEAST 3 days every day shift phone in the rice<<< moves dryer rice closer to phone, after 3 days pull phone out of the rice, THEN grab a can o air, spray air into phone, To see if any water still in phone,, if so 2 more days if not cross fingers put it togather and see if it works,, DO not put in OVEN plastic warps!
Well I'm at work now, it's been over 50 hrs I stuck it in rice, so it'll be like Christmas in October for me when I get home, or not.....

I cant be certain it fits, but looking at the connectors in the picture it appears to be compatible, and for 9 bucks i would try it personally before i did anything drastic. Not sure how much the shipping would run to Canada but its got to be less than an insurance deductible.
EDIT - Found one here already in Canada - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...656?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item20cc33ab08
Rice works, but something a little more powerful are various "thirst bags" that you can buy anywhere on the internet. They work similarly to the rice option but work with a much higher fix rate. This link is to one thats $9.99 http://www.ifixit.com/Tools/Thirsty-Bag/IF145-163 good luck
Remember to slap that thanks button
So did you figure out your pumpkin dilemma ?Just wondering..
I keep a bag of about 150 or so Dessicant dryer bags in one of those vacuum seal jars, just in case. They are cheap and easy and work better then rice. I would say getting a bag of 200 of them cost me about $20.00 Keeping them in the vac sealed jar keeps them from sucking the moisture out of the air.
Worked WONDERS on my day care providers iphone.

Well the headline gives it away guys!! OK so, I dropped my phone last week(I had a case on it, but its a cheap case off of Amazon)! Nothing happened to the screen, but the power button is now way more sensitive than it should be, and my E4GT heats up a lot quicker than it normally should! I have the Qcell battery! Is it the battery or the phone! Please let me know! Thanks again for all of your help!!

Where is the heat coming from? The bottom of the phone or top? If its the bottom I would say it might be the battery. If its the top I would say its the cpu. Are you overclocking? Are you playing any intensive games? Do you have an app that can read the temp of the battery?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
It's coming from the middle of the phone. I have an app telling me the temperature of the phone! So maybe its both!! I just barely got the battery on March 25, 2013! It's gone that quickly!
I'm under clocked at 800mHz through "Set CPU" on GB27. The other day I was outside and it hit 127°!!! Should i get a new battery, or a new phone?

Ohh I fixed this problem. I ordered a hyperbion battery and used it for a couple weeks and realized the qcell is farrrr better. So I put the qcell in the fridge after charging it over night one time and left it in there and came back about 1-1 1/2 weeks later and swapped the batteries in the fridge. That seemed to fix it so I used the qcell until school started 2 weeks later. And the fridge made the hyperbion better than when I bought it

On release I got my D710 from Sprint and it was overheating too. It was super hot especially when I charged the phone without a battery cover. It literally almost burned me so I exchanged it at Sprint a few days after and they even hooked me up with a free oem battery. I think there's a bad batch of overheating S2s cause Sprint will replace it super fast if you tell them it's overheating too dangerous temps. That's how I got them to replace my phone when my power button broke. To top it off it was within warranty and I had insurance and they didn't want to replace because of power button issue until I said it was overheating lol.

Hey guys,
So my mom dropped her GS3 running CM10.1 in delta water (mixed salty / freshwater). She didn't realize to do take the battery out and I didn't get my hands on it several hours later. I immediately took all the internals of the phone out and let them air dry. I noticed some salt formations around some components which I wiped up. I then put the phone together, everything worked except the capacitive buttons stopped working after a bit. I then disassembled everything again and let everything dry a bit more. Put it all together and everything works fine.
My mom started complaining about battery life and the phone being hot so I bought her a new battery. I installed it and noticed in the battery stats it only lasted 3.5 hours with little to no use. I will delete the battery stats file which will hopefully trigger some re-calibration.
Do you guys have any suggestions on what could be causing the low battery life?
Any reason you think the phone produces more heat even when not doing anything? I have a feeling it was just in the sun.
I really hope she didn't ruin this phone as that would be a big waste of money. Thanks

I just picked off the salt formations with a metal edge. A nexus 4 might be much harder to take apart and get the motherboard out..
I have a feeling the new battery I purchased is defective. 4 hours is all my mom is getting with no use. The battery that fell in the water does better than this. I think I'm going to order another one and see if it makes a difference.
