Hello everyone!!
It has been 3 months since I bought my Samsung Galaxy Wonder. With CM9, I enjoy my phone a lot! And it is simply awesome :good: :good:
But because of the same reason. Overuse of my phone. My dad is gonna keep my phone when the next school year starts!! And I may either get back Galaxy Wonder. OR buy a new one in the second term. I still have about a month before school year starts. I know I am quite useless in XDA cause I don't know how to develop things. But I love the XDA Galaxy Wonder thread!!
Now I have a few questions to ask. In case if I really only get my wonder back but not a new phone..:
1) My phone is gonna be kept in a normal room in the Mainland China, Where my dad stays all weekdays. The normal room is with Air-conditioner. And it is not gonna be too wet or somthing. I mean the condition of the room. So after 4 months, second term. when i get it back, will i be able to use it back as normal? Like. Will I be able to normally turn on, and boot normally? cause i am gonna leave it alone for 4 months... really 4 months without turning on
2) For leaving it here 4 months. Will the buttons be functional when i get it back on again? Cause my previous phone was HTC Wildfire S. I dropped it into a big bowl of water and the power button and the volume up button is not working properly after leaving it alone for 3 months. Will the same thing happen to my wonder when i turn it on again? (I have never dropped the wonder into water. Of course I hope I won't drop it into water.. LOL keep it away from my toilet) Please answer I am really worried about it..
Okay. I have one month to go before I really say goodbye to XDA Galaxy Wonder!! And hope somebody can answer my question!! Of course. I am still gonna stick to XDA Galaxy Wonder in term 2 no matter I have W back as daily use, OR a new one. I will miss the XDA Galaxy W thread in these 4 months!

Brian, if the room isn't too wet, it will resist the 4 months period. And the buttons will work too. People in clowdy/rainy places use their cellphones and nothing happens. Why shoud your phone damage itself by being still in a normal room?
I'm guessing that after 4 months of inactivity, it will not turn on, because the battery charge is 0%. After you plug it to a charger, the phone should work normally. Why not?

Recommendation from the battery fabrication: charge your battery about 40% - 50% before you store it for long period.

"For long-term storage, manufacturers recommend a 40 percent charge. This allows for some self-discharge while still retaining sufficient charge to keep the protection circuit active. Finding the ideal state-of-charge is not easy; this would require a discharge with appropriate cut-off. Do not worry too much about the state-of-charge; a cool and dry place is more important than SoC. "

I got two Samsung Star S5230 layin' in a normal Room.
They are layin' there for about 6 Months...
I just turned both on, and they work great.
But I had to charge it before, of course.
It works without a Problem.
I don't think it will "destroy" itself in a normal Room

Only 40-50? What if I charge it to 100? Is it okay? Cause it is difficult to see if it is 40 while charging

If the experts advise 40-50%, it's better to do that way. Just unplug the charger and see how much battery is available. Or go to battery info or something similar.

If you are worried about water comming to your phone you can always put a small layer of rice under it. so the water won't reach the phone.
Just something i heard though

Charge the battery to 40-50%, and remove from the phone.
Put the phone and the battery into two resealable plastic bags.
Put the two plastic bags into a big plastic bag, fill the big bag with Silica Gel *or* other desiccant.
Seal the big bag until it's waterproof, airproof if possible.

water damaged battery?

If the little white paper thing on the top of the battery turns pink or goes away completely does that only mean that it has been damaged by water? And does it make the battery any less better? And is there anyway maybe to fix it?

I can't speak for whether there is a moisture indicator on the battery. What I can say is that even if the battery was wet at one point, as long as it was dried properly, it shouldn't impact the performance of the battery.

Yes that is a moisture indicator, but a little water shouldn't harm your battery. Mine turned pink from the 700% humidity we have here in the summers.

Ya I think my batteries may have gotten a little wet one day when they were in my backpack and it was raining on me and since then I kinda feel like they haven't been as great as before... but even the one that was in my phone hasn't been working so well either so it most likely is my phone I just have no idea what is it that's killing my battery.

batteries do degrade over time -- how long have you had the battery? there are many choices for battery replacements online as cheap as $5 depending on where you look.

NOT true... have you ever opened a battery to see the little ribbon with micro pieces on them? after a liquid is spilled on them it will corrode because there is no way of taking power away to let it dry the right way. if you get a battery damp there shouldn't be a problem. but wet and submerged are 2 different stories and you can risk frying your board from incorrect voltage being applied through the battery output.

Hence the reason I said "a little water". Obviously, submerging your phone for more than a second or 2 will lead to damage down the road, but getting a small amounts of liquid on a battery won't lead to immediate failure. RE: All of the people on here (including me) who have dropped their phone a pool, sink, toilet, etc and are still rocking the same phone.

I'd recommend just buying a new battery. I had my phone get completely wet before, I put both the phone and the battery in a ziplock bag full of rice and left it there for a couple days. Plugged the battery back in and it worked.
But buying a new battery would be the best bet to not further damage your phone.

I guess I will buy a new one just to test it out.
But I still feel like my phone is doing something wrong because I'm using my friends 3500mAh battery and it gives me the same results I used to get with my 1500 ones. I get a little more than 3 hours on screen time and about 20 hours total, which isn't so great for a 3500 battery. I'm gonna try going back to stock for a while and seeing what happens.

I look 104f yeah that's real hot couldn't even talk on the phone, phone lags as hell, the screen issues with the blur I mean come on Samsung I love you guys but you really messed up the phone, I loveeee. the camera on the phone its amazing but still not worth all this... and don't tell me a update would fix this, a Damn 670 phone this should not happen never happen on my note 2 which is faster, another feature Samsung forgot Sheat

You realize 104 F is not hot... at all.....
1) Laptops and have had electronic components built to withstand up to 100 CELSIUS for years. I'm sure your phone can handle 40.
2) If you can't talk on the phone because a little warmth is too much for your sensitive skin move the **** to Alaska because 104 is not hot by any stretch of the imagination.
3) My phone has no lag.... at all, so I don't know what you're speaking of. I can play NFS:MW for an hour, switch to Eufloria HD for another, then hit up GTA:VC for an hour with absolutely no problems. I can also scroll through the drawer faster than my S3 could respond, so it is much more responsive. Maybe you got a defective unit or you messed it up somewhere rooting or flashing roms or poking around where you shouldn't have... I mean based just by your grammar you're not that smart of a person, so I'd say user error is MUCH more likely.
4) If by the blur you mean the purple when you're in the settings, well yes. You've got me there. That is a minor bug that needs to be addressed, and will. The phone has been out for like 11 days bro, give them a ****ing minute.
5) No, sir, your Note 2 is not faster. Yes, it has a larger screen and slightly better battery life, but faster? No. Run a CPU and GPU benchmark and try to tell me its faster.
Give them some time to work out the kinks in the programming. This is how electronics work, nothing is ever going to be perfect when its being produced by the millions on a short time frame with 6 different versions for different countries with different hardware and 10000 different carriers trying to poke around and make their own adjustments to the software.
TL;DR: Stop crying, you're embarrassing yourself.

Just use the speaker phone.....

I hate when people say use benchmark look which is faster... man everyday use is what matter, when I'm playing games and my note 2 runs them smooth and my S4 runs them choppy there is an issue I'm sorry there just is. Now for 104 degrees being not too hot, wow really its beyond hot for a phone to hit, don't give me the whole laptop crap this is a phone that people use to make phone calls and the screen and the back just feels way way too hot. Just use the speakerphone what are we Apple "You're holding it wrong" come on guys give me a break a 670$ phone should not have all of this stuff going on. No, 104F is not too hot for a phone to hit while charging and being used. You have heat from the battery while charging and heat from the processor while using, add any case you might have put on there trapping the heat and it is still well withing acceptable parameters. In Florida ambient temperature reaches that through most of the summer.
And if this thread continues to be a flame/troll fest it will be closed.

104° F is actually cool for a phone th that's charging and in a call. If the device is lagging out on you just return it if a reset doesn't fix the issue.

I actually had this same issue on a white 16gb s4. Phone was powered off while charging over night. Upon powering it on the internal thermometer also read 104F. I suspect it was much hotter, given I have hot spots on my laptop case that reach that temp as verified by a thermal camera. This felt much hotter, though I didn't have the tools on hand to verify.

I've heard a few people complain about their devices getting too hot, but most of them have had the white version. Is that what you guys have had? I have the black one and haven't experienced this issue at all. It does get a little warm when charging, but other than that, no issues here

Were you still virgin stock on firmware? Or were you on something you flashed?

Well I'm in Florida so whenever I'm inside it's like a warming pad against the AC. When I'm outside I don't care because it's not getting any hotter than the air already is. Sound logic.
You do realize I was being sarcastic right? Regardless, that's neither here nor there. You can't make a thread and be like "Damn samsung my phone hits 104 F when I'm charging and talking on the phone!!!!111oneone"
That's not hot. Especially for a phone that's charging while doing anything, or using mobile data in any way, or playing games. When it hit's 60-70 celsius start complaining about overheating problems/return it. When your phone hits 100 degrees Celsius start worrying about the internals frying. Anything less than that stop complaining. It's a ****ing quad core computer that fits in your hand and is slimmer than a BIC lighter. Of course it's going to get warm. If you didn't realize that when you bought it you shouldn't be paying 650 bucks for anything because you're too stupid to have 650 bucks to spend.
For the last time, that's not hot at all. This thread is pointless. I'm done with it.

My Samsung Galaxy S3 exploded last night while I was sleeping

well not mine actually, but check the link. this is the first im hearing of anything like this...discuss
This is my first time posting so cut me some slack! Also not sure if this is the best place to post this.
Last night at about 3:15am EST (about 1 hour after i plugged it in and went to sleep) I was awoken by a loud noise and a weird squeaking sound. (I charge my phone while I'm sleeping on my bed right next to me)
So, I woke up, and saw a ton of smoke coming out of my phone -- it also smelled REALLY bad. Half asleep, I jumped out of bed and turned the light on, only to see that my phone was just beginning to go on fire. I dumped a glass of water I had in the room on it to stop it from burning...then woke up my brother to come help. The smoke smelled so bad and wafted through the entire second floor of my house. I had a foam mattress pillow top that had a hole burned through it too--which we later threw out because it was still burning throughout. Also, some of the plastic on my phone was melting and kind of shooting out of it, and some landed on my pinky finger and burned some skin off (very small burn though).
Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do? Call Verizon? Samsung? Have a lawyer call them? I'd also like to get some type of replacement phone in the meantime...

ALSO: To answer many questions: EVERYTHING was stock/Samsung that I had received when I purchased my phone. Stock battery, charger, etc. Additionally, my phone was NOT rooted.
Edit 2: Thanks so much for all of your comments and insight. The real big question here is -- Do you think I have an actual legal case? As in, a product liability case. Or, do you think I'm better off taking what the PR team will give me? (Perhaps, a new phone, new mattress, etc)? I did not suffer any TRULY substantial damages to myself or personal property. I am really tossed up on this...Any advice would be appreciated.

The comments people are leaving are hilarious lol, doesn't surprise me too much with how hot I've felt some devices getting. He probably installed a fart app or something lol. Sucks but Samsung should pay for everything the guy states like mattress and phone and such.

If there's even a case. Sounds like he just wants to be reimbursed for the phone and damage done to his bed. It also sounds like he doesn't even care about the burn to his finger.
If he does file a lawsuit, I sure hope his phone was stock (I have no idea how they would check now) and that he was using the stock battery. I'm sure samsung is going to bring up the wall charger and micro usb cable as well.

Im sorry, but in my opinion, things like this shouldnt always warrant a lawsuit. Does anybody really think that Samsung is guilty of wrongdoing here? Yeah it sucks and is scary that it happened, but just file an insurance claim to replace the bed and phone and move on with life.
How many GS3s have been sold now, plus all the extra batteries and only one has done this? Pretty good if you ask me.
Sounds like it was probably just a faulty battery or something like that.
Anyway, like I said its just my opinion and thought id share it.

I couldn't even tell that was still the battery since it had warped and expanded so much due to the explosion....now I'm not going to charge my S3 right next to my head when I sleep.

Reimbursement I vote in the least, I mean what's a "600$" phone gonna be for them lol, I assume it was a faulty battery I've read that before about it melting a case

This actually happened to me also so I know what he is going through. I set my phone down to charge. I woke up about an hour later to a plastic burning smell. I grabbed my phone and it was literally melting. Not on fire, just extremely hot and I ended up burning my fingers. I immediately pulled the battery out. Let it cool off (the smell didn't go away) and then it powered back on and has been charging normally ever since. It's kinda scary to think what would happen if I didn't wake up and notice my phone almost blowing up.

What firmware and ROM are you running?

I don't think he has an S3. All of his other posts are for the Note2.

Wasn't aware they got the 4.1.2 update. That's a bmer though on all accounts. I live in Phoenix AZ and we see nothing but triple digits from may til august and I've never felt burnt by my phone, I'm lucky to have resistant skin I guess.

Oh yes they got it months ago. But this happened while charging, in the air conditioning. So there was no reason for it to be that hot. When I turned it on there was no program in the battery list which was eating up the battery so it is very strange.

Winter is upon on. This phone is made of metal. are there any precautions I should take in the upkeep/maintenance of this phone?
Aside from the obvious, dont leave it in your car overnight in 20 degree weather.

Don't get it wet and whatever you do don't feed it after midnight. ?
Otherwise if you keep it in your pocket you should be fine. 20° to a metal phone is the same as it is to a plastic phone. ?

LOL @ 20° overnight temperatures. My phone has been left in the car overnight in negative degree weather and I've had zero issues,

Only thing I'd be worried about, and this pretty much applies to any electronics, is the sudden switch from cold to hot can cause condensation. Water can cause corrosion over time. The phone seems to be sealed pretty well though.
Real world solution, just don't leave it in cold weather. I had mine outside in about 9 degree weather the other day for about 20 minutes. Brought it inside and the displayed fogged up pretty good. Thing was colder than hell too, like an ice cube.

There were some reports on I believe it was the Galaxy S3 where the user went from either really cold to warm environment or warm to really cold, and their screen cracked. Not sure of the validity of this claim or if it would even affect the One, and there's not really much you could do in that situation anyway other than never leave your house buuuut just thought I'd mention it.
