Yes I know what that means but I was doing this way and I was wondering if it did the same thing.
I was disabling the apps instead of uninstalling them; are they the same in the sense, to save battery

My understanding is that disabling (freezing in TiBu, etc) has the same outcome as uninstalling... just one method frees up space while the other one doesn't.

This is true.
The advantage of freezing an app is that it can be quickly and eaasily unfrozen to get it back. Though backing up an app, uninstalling it, and reinstalling it accomplishes the same thing.
The advantage of uninstalling is that the app is gone. It's not taking up space. It can't be accidentally turned back on. It's gone. Done. History.
So it's more of a preference than anything else.
I will say that if you're talking about a custom rom that you're goign to update somewhat frequently and it comes with apps that you consider bloat, it's better to freeze them than uninstall them. Otherwise when you install the next update of that rom, the system apps you uninstalled will come back. But if you freeze them, the frozen system apps will stay frozen after the update. So it eliminates the step of having to get rid of them again.
For instance Cyanogen comes with a CM Wallpaper app that has a bunch of CM wallpapers. I will never use it. I don't want to see the icon for it. So I freeze it once. When I update the next nightly, it's still frozen. If CM puts out a stable release that I plan to keep fro a couple months, maybe I'll uninstall the Wallpaper app completely.
Also for help debloating, consider Alka Seltzer. Plop plop. Fizz fizz. On what a relief it is!

Is there an app that can edit app launch preferences, not just run and kill the apps as they start? Or is there a file that can be edited to keep certain apps from launching on their own? Thank you!
I think you can use Titanium Backup to "freeze" apps, but I don't know if that is persistent or it resets upon reboot. You could give it a shot.
TB does keep them from loading once you freeze the app.
Autostarts.

So TB doesnt just kill them as they start it actually tells them not to load?
+1 for Autostarts.

No, it freezes them so that the phone doesn't know they exist (they're not installed any more), so their launch-on-boot entries aren't there any more.
In other words, if you freeze them, they're not installed any more, so you can't use them.
does any one have a list of the app that can be frozzen without disruption the use of the phone? also im ussing LP so the sense can go too? if yes what are the sense apps
guys, i cant stress this enough and i'm sure the old android heads here will agree with me. their are many many different android phones out there that have root. And although they're all different they all have a few apps in common. setcpu, rom manager, terminal, titanium back up.
I just want to touch base on Titanium backup.
It allows you to totally remove any app, including bloat ware. You can also suspend apps.
the freeze feature was handy because i enjoy sense but didn't like its apps and widgets hogging ram for no reason; considering i never used those sense apps. it netted in a nice battery and performance gain, at least.
one awesome thing about TB is the ability to back up your apps and reinstall all of them. the whole experience is as streamlined as batch market downloading and waaaaaay better than astro file managers one at a time annoying install.
Also, after a full wipe you will definitely want to run market dr so u can easily keep tabs on your updates.
in short, you wouldn't bang her/him without a condom right? well don't flash with out titanium backup!
I totally recommend the paid version!!!!!
So now we can uninstall completely without consequences web2go, Pico TTS, Quickoffice, Listen , Home screen tips, Google Skymaps, Google Translate, Goggles, Finance, wifi calling, etc ??
I was about to but i got a message that said i might have to reinstall the ROM if something craps out...

you should be able too delete what u want. I wouldn't remove wifi calling though lol
I would wait for a clockwork recovery version to be available. This way u can make a backup before u delete all that

oh i see,
in regards to a backup? i think itll be best to be safe than sorry and wait till clockwork recovery is released.
is there a big difference between the free and paid version? what im asking is would i still be able to do back up and delete bloatware with the free version
The batch is MUCH better with the paid version, definitely well worth it

I agree!!!!!!!!!
Just one thing: please don't forget that system apps (ie: apps that are part of your ROM) themselves can't be restored by TitaniumBackup for now. Only their data is backed up. So if somebody is not 100% sure about removing a system app, it's wise to try freezing it first -because that's easy to undo.
So how do we do the remove of unwanted apps

I applied the latest RUU for the Droid Incredible (November 2010 Edition). In the past, I always updated the phone, Got Root Access and performed a Nandroid Backup before removing all the Bloatware/Crapware on my phone.
However, this time I am getting very different results.
After the Nandroid, I delete everything I don't want via Root Explorer. I would delete the obvious ones such as City ID, VZ Nav, Teeter, and a bunch of HTC widgets like Footprints, Contacts Calculator, etc.
I was told that if I go into my settings and 'Clear Data' on HTC Sense that it will get rid of the shortcut to the deleted widgets on the Add Widget Window. It always worked in the past except not on this release.
I have reinstalled the RUU several times to make sure it wasn't a n installation error (of course I am performing a wipe). Any one have any suggestions.
Also is there an updated list of what programs are safe to remove?
Thanks.
Why not flash a "senseless ROM"? there are a number of them out there. You lose the stock Rosie and are forced to use either ADW or Launcher Pro. They alsy delete many of the things you have no interest in keeping.
Just another option.
Because I like Sense. I love the HTC Calendar Widget, HTC Clock Widget (with the full screen weather animation), HTC Tip Calculator and the stock HTC Keyboard (Hence why there is also an equal amount of Sense ROMs out there too).
Nothing I have seen out there comes close to what I like.
I've always just used the system app remover from the market

Thanks. I'll give that a shot and report back.
Edit: No doesn't work. I uninstalled System App Remover and Got Refunded. It looks like it can't be done because even the Virtuous ROM has the same issue. Oh well maybe in time someone will figure it out.

I would try removing the apps with Titanium Backup if you haven't. That's what I normally use to remove bloatware. If you "Freeze" the apps, the widgets may be removed, also.
Also, could someone let me in on the secret for adding a custom signature with my ROM/Kernel/Radio/Phone/etc.? I'm new to XDA.
The widgets are gone it's the shortcut for them that need to be removed. RMK had a method of removing these prior to Froyo update 1 which doesn't work anymore.
If you know what the app names are, you can use 7 zip to remove the apk's from the app folder before flashing the Rom.

It works. It gets rid of the garbage shortcuts now. However, you can't put widgets on your homescreens anymore. Very weird. Because the widgets I want to put on my screen are installed.

I'll give that a shot too. However, without even doing it, I think it won't work because of the SQL entries left behind.
I am just being real anal. The garbage widgets shouldn't bother me but I want it to be clean.

Did you ever manage to work out how to remove the deleted widgets from the list?
Since I use Launcher Pro instead of the default sense I was wondering if someone could let me know which things would be safe to uninstall?
So far..

I've done this same thing, removed all HTC* and Sense* apps and services from my phone. I staged it using Titanium to freeze them all first, then after a week of no crashes, no FC's , and having the kernel I wanted, I removed them all.
The problem I'm having is how to convey this info to you. Titanium backup will produce a list but it seems a bug will only list the user apps, not the system ones in the resultant email.
I think I could just do a complete listing from adb of the content of /system/app, and you can diff it with your own to produce things that do no harm when removed.
If you're interested, let me know. There is , I think, no "sense" left when done with this. Compared to say the Rom called Senseless R., it has much less apps & services (that are all social networking garbage) installed and it runs very well. Normally, at any given time, it is running 8-18 services & apps, compared to ~50-60 before I did this.
I guess I'd rather make my own mistakes then install someone else's. (which might make you think twice about doing anything I recommend )
Of course, as always, do a full nandroid backup before starting on this type of thing. Remove one wrong thing and you're likely not going to be able to reboot, but I think if you freeze them first with TB, then you might be able to boot using 'safe mode' (see XDA) and still unfreeze the culprit keeping it from rebooting (use logcat to figure it out if you can).

Thanks for the tips.
I'm using 'root uninstaller' that shows all apps and 'com.android' stuff.
I did a full backup and am experimenting uninstalling different things.
One of the .htc uninstalls resulted in crashing mms, 3g and just about anything major like the dialer.
Slowly and surely I'm doing a full backup everytime I get to a point where I uninstalled a few things and everything still works great.
I haven't been keeping track of exactly what I've been uninstalling so I guess I can't help out anyone in the future :/
I running Stock Rooted PK1, I have Titanium Back up and root installed.. I went and removed a lot of bloat ware. But here is the issue I have with newer roms.. When your done and rebooted, I have notice the bloat icons are still there.. If you go and try to remove them exp. Google games, movies the only option you have is to turn it off.. What happened to Titanium actually removing all of that for you.. And I have also noticed when you uninstall it, you start to notice a lot of FC as well.. I have also tried this with stock rooted roms that have some of the bloat already removed, but no enough of it for me.. Has anyone here notice the same thing? Or what is the solution for this.. When I want to get rid of something on my system, I want it completely gone, not just part of it..
I'm disappointed. I thought this thread was going to be about Amy Schumer.

LOL sorry.
Chances are TB is just uninstalling the updates and not the app itself. Try manually checking in system\app or system\priv-app for a folder containing the application. If it's there delete it and reboot, that'll remove them permanently. Be careful though as some apps will begin a fc that won't go away even after reboot. Make a backup first.

Thanks got it all done. Now for a new issue my screen won't rotate. #0*# doesn't work.. Hell I might have to do a full restore, as I can't test my sensor.
All right my screen rotation back, by simply going back to full stock, the rerooting.. Anyone have a list of all the bloat that is safe to remove.. I think I might have removed something that cause the screen roataing issue in the first place.

If you remove Facebook with an app like titanium, you could possibly lose /system/lib/libgnustl_shared.so which has been known for a long time to cause loss of rotation. Why that happens going way back in KitKat, I dunno. Just like I dunno why titanium update zip needs user edit since Lollipop. Great app but needs some work.
You could copy and save /system/lib/libgnustl_shared.so before removing Facebook since you're on stock so you have it to restore, if lost. Or get it from your Note 4 ROM zip if flashed.
I'm usually very conservative with bloat removal. Try freezing and check for effects before uninstalling; you know what to check now.
I'm more concerned about the apps that auto run in background without user launching so watch for that. Useless apps take resources away from rooted users; most likely you want to make resources available for custom apps. So make room for them. Debloat makes sense as long as you're not removing function.
