[DISCUSSION] The Newest LG update: 4.2.2 - LG Optimus G (International)

So now that I see most companies updating their flagships with android 4.2.2, first samsung, now sony and htc, its reasonable to think that LG's update shouldn't be too far away, anybody knows any rumors on when we might get the update?

Ask LG. I don't know why they are delaying it so much. 4.2.2 it's ready since 1st june. I can tell you this from a secure source. My guess is they are waiting until G2 is released. Anyway,lg is not known for frequently updates...

Is your "secure source" actually within LG or a carrier? I feel like LG may abandon this phone once the G2 is released, based on their track record.

where are the kdz.?? when the buidl finished, there must be a 4.2.2 kdz in a black corner on the internet

It's not working like that. The test units come with the software pre-installed.you may be surprised what nda we have to sign.

Don't agree, how can you tell that it's better if CM it's not a 100% working ROM...

As soon as I got this phone I rooted it and I installed an aosp 4.2
W ROM, tested different Roms for weeks, not because I wasn't happy with any of them, but because I'm am a flashing freak who changes Roms all the time, one day I was bored and said to myself you know what? I'm gonna flash the stock 4.1.2 and give it a shot, and I can't believe this thing is faster than any aosp rom, even with my carriers bloatware, its smooth, super fast, and the most important thing STABLE, no FCS or random reboots, I didn't even give the stock firmware a chance at the beginning because I was so used to Samsung crap laggy touchwiz that I thought anything other than stock android was crap, but I am enjoying the stock lg firmware even better than aosp, hope they update to 4.2.2 soon, and hope they fix a few stuff that annoys me like the ugly as **** dialer! cmon man the guy who designed that **** needs some years in prison!

Well, you can't call it 100% working rom when you have basic stuff like bt call not functional.

I will never install any more custom rom for this phone. Im satisfied with stock. Its stable, smooth and lag free. And i hope we get new version soon. I dont think we will get 4.2.2 because its starting to be old. But we will get newer one

+1
With my previous phones I would always flash to the latest CM build and never keep the factory rom but since I got this phone, I don't feel the need to flash. Its so smooth/fast and has some very nice software features that I don't want to loose. I don't mind if they skip the 4.2.2 update as long as we get key lime pie.

optimus g is my first android phone i flashed crom.
never missed again on android.
i hate all stock roms, not beautiful and minimalistic enough for me

CM is garbage and so drab looking!

why you say cm is garbage Oo?
and yes, i love this drab looking of pure android.

CM is not garbage but not OK. It will allways be bugs and stuff that doesnt work because of missing drivers and stuff.
Better with STOCK rom. You can use your phone fully without missing stuff. But if someone making Custom STOCK ROM modified then we can talk custom ROM.

[Q] Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 poll question.

I know there are people on here who have had a lot of Samsung Android smartphones. I also know that Samsung isn't the most reliable when releasing updates for the current phones when a new device is about to be released. That is extremely frustrating when Samsung says they will give their customer base a new version of the Android OS, but then drop the updates or say they will give a set number of devices the latest version, but only keep their word for 2 out 3 devices. So my question is... Who on here thinks that we will get Android 4.3 this year and who thinks we will get it nest year?
Samsung said already it would be updating the N2 by October.

I hope you're right, but I seem to recall Samsung leaking several months ago that we'd have it early July (the SGH i317 was one of several devices noted on the list...not sure whether the other devices got theirs or not)
... still waiting and not overly optimistic
Do u guys have an official link to what Samsung said? Cause all I remember was that the s3 was gettting update in October.

Honestly I don't think it matters when it's released. Because soon as there's a leak out there for, some new firmware. The DEVS around here are going to be all over it. And we all know that. So I think that everyone should just sit back and wait a month or so... We should know something by then.
Just my 2¢®

that was for android 4.2.2 but then they decided to skip that for the n2 and go right to 4.3

I for one, don't see why we need a 4.3 update. Run a 4.2 and 4.3 TW ROM side by side and you won't notice any difference. Samsung replaces the stock lock screen with it's own (bye bye lock screen widgets). And if you enable lock screen widgets, it's all messed-up, you a minuscule place to touch to switch to the next widget, so most of the time you end up going to clock settings.
Quick settings panel is really changed and at least for me TW notification drawer toggles are a lot more useful.
If you want 4.3 just run an AOSP ROM, you'll get the full experience.
Google has done a great job by starting to update core apps and apis through play store apps.
And IMHO 4.1.2 is a lot better than 4.2.2 which brought a lot of bugs memory leaks and lag.

You may get the full experience, but at what costs? Only the Manufacturers coders know how to tune the ROM to not be a battery guzzler. Only the Manufacturers coders know how to make a the ROM 90% stable. But some of us actually use the Samsung-only apps like S-Note. Sure Samsung has really messed up the overtime with the Android OS (I miss being able to turn off touchwiz). I've used Vanilla Rootbox, PAC-Man, CyanogenMod, AOKP and Paranoid Android and all of them leave something to be desired. The only thing PA has going for it is HALO and Per App DPI, outside of that it looks and feel just like every other aftermarket AOSP ROM.

Either you have never used AOSP or you have not used a recent 4.3 build, they are pretty much rock solid, almost zero bugs(TW ROMs are full of bugs also), and battery life is the same as a TW ROM.
And I tend to use non-OEM apps just so I have the liberty to change ROMs whenever I want. Papyrus has worked great for me

[Solved] Xperia S: need some advice

I'm not sure if this is something that happens to a lot of you Nozomi users, but I can always ask for advice.
I skip from custom ROM from time to time just to know what my options are, either experimental or close-to-stock. And quite frankly it is bugging me, that my ROMs always feel sluggish, even when others say it should be quick or smooth.
I just want to have the smoothest, most stable, least sluggish ROM out there (I tend to demand a lot), and it should stay just that. Not that it's blazing fast to begin with, and decreases in speed in a matter of days.
Also, cleanest way to install said ROM? I want to rule out all possible factors.
I hope you can help me along with this,

Almost all stock roms will eventualy slow down
All them error codes just gather up
Clearing your cache and dalvik fixes some of it
Also stock based roms will always be sluggish, it seems all stock kernels have a entropy issue
There are tonnes of other reason
If you want a smooth and stable rom, i dont necicarily recomend my rom, each device is slightly different, these nano diferences have a bigger effect
Just try out different roms till youn find one you like
If not that unlock your bootloader and install cm10 or aosp
Letamas aosp is about one of the quickest but its buggy and FXP cm10 is great in performance and feels great
BUT YOU HAVE TO KNOW TO REPERCUSSIONS OF UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER
(Although unlocked bootloader = freedom)
If you need anything just ask, i didnt cover everything surrounding your point and question

Hmmm...
You could try miui?
Or maybe the 4.4 project (once started and finished)
Letamas 4.3 is i think the faststest running rom on xperia s but there are some openGL issues which makes gaming a no no
And kitkat 4.4 is designed for devices with 512mb of ram, xperia s has 1gb but some for hardware and gpu as we know
I suggest either using letamas 4.3 (few not working things)
Or waiting for a 4.4 build
Im not to sure about opensemc, i dont realy remember not to sure about some others too
Conclusion:
Stock = always slugish
CM10-11 = Good but some builds are buggy
AOSP - amazing but buggy and no fully working builds ive seen yet

I'll give letama's a shot then, and we'll see about KitKat. I have a hunch that we will be getting one fairly soon.

RaymanFX i think he said he got it to boot already but he is a super dev like letama
Me and some other people are trying to get Official CM11 (4.4) for xperia s, (petitions blah blah blah)
Me and some other devs are working on AOSP 4.4
So you should see alot of 4.4
Also - read through the bug list of letamas 4.3 build and also notice there are some graphics bugs but everything else is fine as far as i remember
Using letamas 4.3 then going back to stock, stock felt like very slow

You can always make a clean install.. Wiping everything, format everything and then flash.. That's the best way to avoid any sort of problems in any ROM.. As Envious_Data said, there are lots of advantages of unlocking the bootloader.. And btw if you are going with Stock based ROM, i would suggest u try eXistenZ Ultra and Trintity ROM first and when it comes to AOSP/CM ROMs you can try letama's AOSP 4.3 or RaymanFX's CM10.2 alpha3.. I am currently on CM10.2.. Its very smooth and fluid for an alpha.. I am getting better battery backup too.. Although i have to sacrifice 1080p recording for now, but the ROM is definitely a daily driver.. Go ahead and choose to flash any ROM.. Welcome to Xperia S section..
No offence guys, but I'm not new at the Xperia S, have had the device since november last year, running ROMs since early january.
Thanks for the advice anyway.
I've got the same, my phone runs smooth right after flashing the ROM, but then... I don't know, maybe its because of the way we use our phones?
I have compared my XS to my friends XS - his was very smooth and mine - you know. I have unlocked bootloader to make GTA III run smoothly.
And now - I just got used to this, but I hate my phone
Running letama's 4.3 AOSP, and @Envious_Data thanks for the suggestion, it feels truly rapid and it looks like it will do fine for me. That games and 1080p recording don't work properly, is no burden for me anyway.
Good luck on your developing endeavours, I hope 4.4 progress is good
(this is for future reference)
the Reason why our phones on the stock roms is the same reason why windows slows down
error codes build up and one way to fix half of it is to wipe your cache, (one advantage of apple IOS, does not generate error codes and thus can last a straight 2 months of constant running)
AOSP /CM10/11 are much cleaner then stock and will take alot more time to slow down, and the same goes with Stock ICS, it will slow down a bit but no more then that
GB was about the best, it was perfectly coded , no errors
JB was coded by Sony DEV team B and team B is the ones to F***ed up almost everything they have touched
although Xperia Z run almost the exact same firmware as xperia s it got messed up when they ported it
its why i discontinued my rom, i couldent fix alot of the errors that my self and sony had caused

Forget about official update for our OGP..

It was a bit frustated when waiting for major update from LG for our lovely G Pro. Although using stock rom is enough, but we need more to optimise the device.
I have been using some kitkat custom roms and decided to use one of the for day to day use. My impression so far is that I wil not go back to stock unless big problem happen to my phone (i.e. when I need to go to service center ?).
So, currently I just waiting for nightly updates or other kitkat new custom rom coming ☺
How about you, guys?

I got an update notification on my stock rooted phone this morning... Still nervous about installing it.
I like AOSP roms, but I find they favor having the latest android base over working out all of the bugs. Which in turn means extra features, but lack stability. I usually find the best Roms for a phone (AOSP or stock mod) match the android base of the stock.
Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
There are not too much options for Korean Variant F240x so unless there comes some stable custom rom had to stick with the stock.
I'm using CM 11 as it has DSP working and most custom ROMs do not.
I still wish LG would release an update for us.
The only problem I have with the ASOP and CM based roms is stability. Some have good battery life, some are feature packed, some have working navigation, some have a hard time locking or issues with sound.
I have yet to find one that just works in all aspects. That's what keeps me going back to stock. Even the G2 V5 had issues for me with signal reception (yes I flashed my modem again) and wifi transfer speeds. The only one that has it all working perfectly is the stock 4.1.2.
I wish we had more customization on that base E980 stock rom kernel tweaks and things like that, but I understand the allure of 4.4 roms versus spending dev time on an outdated build. For me though, having a phone that works consistently is more important. That's not to say there is anything wrong with the ASOP and CM roms, I just haven't found one that just works. Especially when it comes to GPS.
I see that there is the 4.2.2 update from China and I hope a Dev or 2 takes a look at that, or the new Gx that is very similar to the G Pro in hardware. Hopefully there is an option to port that to our G Pro. We'll see. For now, I still enjoy my G Pro and really have no desire to purchase anything else on the market right now.

Yep. If you are rooted and have CWM or TWRP recovery installed and you attempt to update you will get stuck in a recovery boot loop. If you are stock, non-rooted, and you install the AT&T update you will NOT be able to root - the update blocks rooting. IMHO there is nothing of value in the AT&T update. Wherever you are, stay there.

is it an auto update? I'm on slimbean 4.3. is there a thread about this to disable anything to avoid the update coming through?
I have been running the cm nightlys now for several days it has proven quite stable does a great job multitasking and running game apps. for battery life i downloaded no-frills cpu control and set the cpu to interactive. also has an option to apply on boot so when rebooting the phone it does not return to on demand. Getting 8 to 12 hrs battery life (6 with heavy gaming) and battery recharges in 2 to 4 hrs depending on which charger i use stock or aftermarket. I am very happy with cm11 at this point and been getting daily updates adding features and fixing issues. I also have run the halo harmony rom which works very well but battery life is short 4 to 6 hours heavy gaming have drained battery in 3hrs but halo interface is nice. As far as stock lg filled this thing with way to much bloat ware and even with it all disabled phone is still slower then what it is capable of being. I love they way this device runs on kit kat and will continue to run the cm nightys until they release a stable.
---------- Post added at 12:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 AM ----------
You should also know no matter which Kit Kat rom you are running you will need to do this from your dialer go to setting and select vibrate on call waiting. None of the roms have a working call waiting ringer yet but the vibrate function does work but must be selected manually after installing rom.
I have been plagued with the muffled in-call mic problem on any AOSP/CM based ROM. That has been the driving factor for staying on stock-based.

I was searching high and low to see if the phone mic issue had been resolved. Many others have experienced it but nobody ever followed up.
This was the one issue that was holding this phone back (no matter what ROM). I'm told that the mic volume is useable - with a little bit of cutting in and out. Not 100% perfect yet, but useable.
Well, I already knew the device likely wasn't going to be getting an upgrade. I bought it as a temporary device. I bought a Note III last week, and am in the process of selling my G Pro.
I do miss some features from it, mostly the 5x5 home screen grid and the actually usable universal remote app built-in, but the S-Pen features outweigh them.

I had to use LG FlashTools after a freegee fiasco switching from TWRP to CWM, and ended up on stock 10k. Completely stock, no custom recovery, just 4.1.2 and rooted. If you attempt to install the update already rooted WITHOUT a custom recovery it just gives some message about root detected and reboots back normally.

Settle down, Beavis.
Samsung pretty much does rule the Android smartphone world, despite (or maybe because of) "10gb(wrong) of pure TW crap(also wrong)"

It's been fun..

I know I've only had this phone a year, but I'm soon selling it as I'm buying a OnePlus One once it is up for preorder. Some of the reasons I'm selling the phone are; Poor LG updates; not so great custom ROM support, thanks to everyone that made them though; not much activity in the forums anymore and lastly, its just getting slower as Android gets newer. Maybe some of you are upgrading soon, if so what are you getting?
I've done the same upgrade as you are doing. Had the optimus g for a year and a half. Great phone however battery life is disappointing and the occasional BSOD is quite annoying so I now have the oneplus one. Great phone just bear in mind it is a huge phone (same size as the iPhone 6 bendy)
>Poor LG updates
S3 didn't even get 4.4
>not so great custom ROM support
Most popular ROMs out there are ported. They work fine and has everything you'll ever need. Personally I found no problem with ROM support.
>its just getting slower as Android gets newer
Still smooth on my phone. It's just as smooth as any flagship out there.
Unless you're running a nuclear powerplant on your phone I wouldn't say it's "slow"
Well the oneplus one wins it all round for me, 64gb internal is great. Battery life is meh as @etalocohc pointed out. Also, the camera isn't so good. Its been a rollercoaster.
Maybe you are right, but Optimus G is lot older and cheaper device. Wouldn't say LG updates are poor, stock firmware is great, and they put KitKat on device from end of 2012 which is nice. I can agree with Custom ROMs, they aren't great and not really much for e975, i think there are more ROMs for USA editions of LGOG. Battery life can be decent with good kernel, my phone goes down with voltage to -137,5 which is really good, better battery life and lower heating.

>not so great custom ROM support
Most popular ROMs out there are ported. They work fine and has everything you'll ever need. Personally I found no problem with ROM support.
>its just getting slower as Android gets newer
Still smooth on my phone. It's just as smooth as any flagship out there.
Unless you're running a nuclear powerplant on your phone I wouldn't say it's "slow"

Yes but ROM support sucks, not to bash on devs or anything, but most of the time ROMs are left half working, are then abandoned and another ROMs project starts. Also Gee sources which are used for a lot of ROMs on this device are just not the best I've seen.

At least now Faust93 has ported the kk camera driver. Fantastic progress which means gee ROMs can finally qualify as a daily driver.

There's still the thermald.conf file issue for me, i dont want my phone to be a mobile oven :V
Yeah, maybe in some months I will try to find some excuses to change my G phone, for now I'm happy and KK update was fantastic for me.
Most probably I will stay with LG, regarding One Plus One, I don't like the phone size and I will more time to see their hardware quality.
Got my invite tonight and ordering it later

Please compare the G with devices from same time (s3) !
We have all roms u need and i think there are much not here at xda! Chineese dont often use xda because they cant english and are not interested!
And its great to see that one rom works for many models (f180, e970, ls 970..)
Yea one point: i think our g/device trees can more when we have better support with the right devs (we have good devs! They can build roms and fix errors and im happy! But i think device tree has more potential)
Battery life is for me great, i dont belive on wonders and see it in comparison with other devices!
I love my G and i will buy/replace backcover instead to buy a new phone! Theres no different.. I also can replace battery, no problem...
Camerais good! But my backcover has scratches and thats ehy quality awful and high senitivity by lights...
Opo is for me to big!
And hey, we have kitkat, its newest os! 4.4.2. 4.4.4 update makes no sense.. Find differents!
Only one i hate on lg: dont know if we can see g3 ui in future and we have no knockOn or knockCode! Lowend devices are on 4.2.1 but became update in that time with the knockon feature while we have waited for kitkat

Well, it's a bit sad that I am putting my OG up for sale... I love this phone, but a great deal on a G2 was too good to pass, so I am moving on. All of you that are still using an OG, or considering getting one -- have fun and enjoy it, this puppy has plenty of life left in it, and it's still an awesome device today.
Thank you all who helped me along the way, the community support here on XDA is great!

I know this is an offtopic here, but I am wondering if you have any pointers to such problems. I haven't perused G2 forums yet, but definitely planning to do it. I am not planning to do any heavy modding; still, would be interested to know what to look out for...

Well, first of all a little signal issue, then something like BIOS battery problem! I mean if you turn the device off at night your settings will reset! Even if you don't turn it off, in the morning you notice it's not silent while you'd switched to silent mode.
Camera lens cover is aweful in quality which will heck your picture quality up. Battery life on kitkat is at least 20 percent worse than JB. Screen has two types which requires two types of kernel. Poor build quality comparing with OG. Risky to put in pocket. Screen yellow tint in many cases when it gets hot. And some other problems that I don't remember now. Oh the soft buttons. They are a real pain. You can't hide them and they are always present in every apps and games.
Even with a OnePlus One, I'll sorely miss my G, with so little amount of people in this forum, its such a tight community which I love. I'll still be around for help, just won't be able to test unless I keep my G alongside my One, still considering it .
Tapped from some sexy bacon goodness (OnePlus One)

Stock based LP for Galaxy Tab Pro :Line?

When Will Samsung release an update for LP on the Tab Pro line? Will we ever see LP stock based ROM's for the Tab Pro?
try CM12
most of the bugs have been ironed out by now and I've had no issues in day to day use (been using it for the past 2 months)
Chances seem to be slim that we will ever get an official Lollipop ROM, but nobody really knows, only Samsung knows. They seem to be releasing a Lollipop ROM for the Note 2, which is a fairly old phone.

I guess (and I don't really have a confirmation of this) that it's not totally based on the age of the phone but of the popularity. I supose only the Galaxy S portfolio is getting the attention.

+1 to this.
Even on KitKat, stock TouchWiz was a laggy mess, and CM11 a huge improvement.
Stop waiting around for Samsung to release something they might never even release; and flash CM12 that some of us have been enjoying for some time now.
Agreed. I bought it last December and am very happy with rooted performance on debloated stock rom 4.4.2 base. I also ha E an LG g3 and have that running SkyDragon Lp stock based rom which is extremely fluid and battery is amazing. Just wondering g if anyone heard of anything for the pro line.

Not waiting around. I'm rooted on all devices. On the Tab Pro I have a stock based 4.4.2 debloated rom which is great. I like the Lp features (running Sky Dragon LA on my LG GA VS985) and was wondering if anyone heard anything. As far as aosp or cm I'm not a huge fan. Ran cm12 nightlies on it for a month and missed some of the stock options. Especially in terms of screen resolution. Ultimately I'm waiting for a debloted stock LP rom and will run a stock based rom until then as my DD. I will sample CM/AOSP Roms of course because we all love flashing, moddong, tweaking. This thread is here for any and all to bring ideas, creativity, answers, and for us to collaborate I guess. Maybe something awesome will come from it, who knows

Someone has made a start porting T900 (4.4.2) TO T520 (Exynos chipset). Lollipop stock rom is available for T900:

I am awaiting the outcome.

I have GPS issues and my Samsung MHL adapter does not work with it. I flashed the 4.4.2 stock firmware and everything is working. I won't be flashing anything not until the above problems are fixed.
