Yesterday I tryed rooting and everything went ok.
I installed this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
Which is new 2.10.405 ROM, just rooted, don't have anything else.
Today at work I noticed that I can no longer receive contacts via SMS, I just get "nullnull" SMS message when someone send's me VCARD via SMS.
I tryed installing new ROM when I got home, this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741755&highlight=Official+htc+froyo
That is older 2.09.405 ROM on which VCARD via SMS worked when I installed it OTA, original, NO ROOT.
Then I though it had to do something with radio image so I tryed installing radio versions:
32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23
and in the end
32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20
Still cannot receive contact via SMS, just getting "nullnull" SMS message when I try to send it from NOKIA E90.
Did I miss something?
How can I fix it since it's important for me to have that option, which WORKED on 2.2 OTA HTC Desire Froyo 2.09.405.8 and after rooting it's not working any more?
BUMP ... ... ...
vcard + sms never worked on original ROM for Desire..
Vcard worked even on old 1.21.405 but it couldn't be imported. On froyo OTA they fixed it and vcard worked perfect, so let's not go there.
I'm interested in why am I getting «nullnull» instead of vcard text. Since I tried updating rom and radio, and it didn't work, I'm asking is there anything else that can be done to fix it since its probably problem in something that new rom 2.10.405 updated also.

Last BUMP before I give up and go to good old 2.09. OTA UN-ROOTED ROM.
Have you tried doing a full wipe? Rooting alone shouldn't cause something like this.
Not sure how it's done but I whiped data, cache and dalvik cache in recovery. Didn't find anything else there to whipe.
Still not working.
Tryed sending contact from samsung old phone, received blank sms, but same happened on nokia so I'm not worried.
Will wait for unrevoked 3.2 and then revert back to ota unrooted to try if it will happen on unrooted or not.
Can it be kernel or that has nothing to do with it? That's only thing I didn't reinstall.
Yeah ... I've been checking this for a while too ... I noticed that I could no longer receive wap push messages from our mobile content system so I assumed that the module for parsing these binary SMS message has been dropped from the message management of certain roms. Each time I flash a new rom I test to see if someone has bothered to include it again.

Came across something.
While using rooted 2.09.405 ROM I decided to switch mobile network from gsm / 3g to 3g only, and I was able to receive VCARD via SMS, but couldn't send it...
Installed back 2.10.405 and vcard not working any more.
Now I'm switching back and forth roms to see what works and what not...
Sorry, hitching on this thread, I would like to ask..
How do you send vcard + sms on Desire, Android 2.2?
Thanks!
Go to contacts (People), press and hold on contact you want to send, from pop up menu select "send contact" or something like that, and then select to send via SMS.
Concerning my problem...
It has nothing to do with gsm / 3g. It seams Desire is capable of receiving some vcards and not others. Basicly out of 6 random contacts I tryed from my wifes nokia phone, I was able to receive 3 on both roms and 3 other came as nullnullnull or nullnull messages, not really sure why...
Also when sending VCARD as SMS Desire won't send it from first try. Don't know why it just don't even try to send it... But when I click "Retry sending" I send it without problems...
Where can I report that problem?
And is there any solution for this?
I've now reinstalled using using a Pre-rooted Stock Froyo (2.10.405.2) which includes HTC Sense.
See h t t p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
Tested sending WAP Push messages from our CMS and the phone now receives them OK.

Hey guys,
anybody knows a stable ROM, which Supports the SIM Contacts on a T-mobile Sim?
i tried new MIUI and the new CM.. both cant handle SIM Contacts...
What happens when you select "Import from SIM" on CM7?
I don't have any contacts on my SIM so can't test.
Is it really that important that you would choose a ROM based on this? Surely your contacts are sync'd with your gmail account and there are several apps that can export to the SIM should you decide to not buy another Android phone.
Hey,
on MIUI and CW7, it always told you , there arent any contacts on you SIM.. but they r! i google for 2 days now and see that much ppl got this problem...
if i wanna sync mc contacts from sim with googlemail i need to flash back on a RUU completely and thats what i dont want.. i spend 3 hours yesterday in debranding, rooting and stuff..
my problem is, iam chaning the phone sometimes, so i got a organised Sim Contact list, and if i start the phone, i want that my sim contacts can be used...
i remember leedroid 2.3.x workd with the SIm perfectly... but i want to try another rom :-/
Best advice then would be to either find an App in the Market that can do this for you or install LeeDroid, do the import to Gmail then go back to what ever ROM you liked the most.
Best of everything then.
yeah the problem is...no app is working, cuz i cant find your sim, or cant find contacts on it...
then i think i have to go back to a RUU sync with google , install a custom rom again and import it

You said LeeDroid worked so why not try that first? easier than using an RUU (IMO).
i dunno if i made something worng.. but on leedroid my touch was defect after some bugging.. now i got my new DHD since yesterday.. so i dont rly want to use this rom again...

Wouldn't have been the ROM.
Then ok, use what ever you have to to get your SIM contacts sync'd to Google account (if too many to do manually although even after importing SIM contacts you'll probably have to go through them to tidy them up) and maybe get T-Mobile to send you a new SIM as they can get a bit screwy after a while (which could be another issue).
Hey xda,
My Desire has stopped sending sms's since i installed MIUI-AU 1.6.10 - used many ROMS before but never had this issue.
The first time i switched to MIUI i followed the instruction to flash the corresponding *.DX.zip file before flashing the ROM [see their site] which i did, then flashed the rom - all seemed ok and since then every time i send an sms to any number, from contacts/manually typed or what have you it gives an error - 'message not sent'
Since then, ive switched to the updated MIUI-AU,MIUI 1.6.17 (running currently), RCMix..whatver is their latest build - and im sure the issue will come back with any other rom.
Now obviously following all instructions and all i must have skipped something that is causing this..
Before flashing miui 1.6.17 i wiped everything and my SD card is setup for A2sd with the right partitions and extentions
Im running a CM7 HBoot if that matters.
If anyone has a clue please let me know here - im happy to provide any more information...cheers
Fixed: Guys if you ever get into the Messaging settings>Advanced>SMS Message Centre..don't change the default number stored there - i just called up my provider (Telstra) and they gave me the correct number to use and now everything is back to normal
Did you try to get the settings from your provider? You could try to reset them if you have got an account for the internet portal of your provider. You could also try to call them.
I don't know if you need special settings for every provider, but you can try this.

Thanks for the reply - phones here in AUS will normally get the settings as soon as you insert the SIM card but because i had deliberately messed with the sms message centre number i had to ring them to get that...your post got me thinking what i had changed and it just made sense
Hi, just got my Epic Touch, coming from the Epic 4G.
Every time I try to setup my Exchange email, I get the error:
Setup Could Not Finish
Activation Failed. Unable to connect to network. Try again with the network provider's default APN.
Same error 3G, 4G, or WiFi. I didn't think CDMA phones even had APN's?
Found some related stuff: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098806&page=4
No solution that works. Spent 2 hours on the phone with Sprint, who were very nice, but had no solution. They are checking with higher ups and Samsung.
I don't have a lot of hope here, may be taking this phone back tomorrow when my insurance replacement arrives.
Thanks for any help you might have!
I've been getting the SAME error today.
I've been getting the same error since yesterday after flashing StarBurst 1.6. Having thought that was the problem I reverted back to the stock ROM and am still having the same issue.
I was on the phone with sprint for 45 minutes and they recommended I go to a retail store to have it diagnosed.
Other users in the Starburst Dev thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18480495&postcount=2067) reported similar issues and some were able to fix it by restoring app + data for Email 3.0.0.1. Trouble is I don't have a backup of this, so if anyone could be so kind as to provide that, it would be much appreciated.
Call Sprint
Everyone who is having this issue, please call Sprint, so they do something about this!

Have you rooted your phone or installed a custom ROM, or is this a brand new untouched device?
same exact problem here. started occuring after i flashed starburst 1.6
Are you guys all running rooted and alternative roms? I am and had the same issue last night. I deleted the email app and cache and the restored it from a previously made titanium backup of the email app. I only restored the app. Then I went back and restored the data. Doing app and data at the same time did not work for me. I am currently pushing two exchange accounts a 2 gmail accounts. Working fine for me.

I am currently running [ACS][Odin]Completely Stock EG30 with the EG30Plus Kernel. I came from StarBurst 1.6, however removed it immediately because Active Sync wasn't working for me and I thought that ROM was causing the problem. I did not make any backups of the email app or data prior to flashing this ROM so I do not have anything to restore from.
Oh, and if it helps.. I am pushing a gmail account with no problem.
Would it be possible for you to make a backup of this so we I try restoring it? It sounds to me like that is what the solution is..
I would post the apk or the TBackup but I am unsure where the email accounts are stored. I don't want to give a bunch of people my email accounts.
I suspect that when they built that rom they based it off a GSM Galaxy S2 and they forgot to switch out the email client. APN is require for a GSM phone to access the network. Check back with the Rom Dev.
Maybe some one can pull the email.apk from the unmolested stock image thats posted in the developers section.

That makes complete sense! I know it's a bit much to ask, but would you be willing to remove your email accounts temporarily and make a separate backup of the email.apk? I can PM you with my work credentials to set up an account with if that would help.
I'd be very appreciative as I need Exchange on my phone for work. I'm on the verge of going back to my Palm Pre until I get this resolved!
I was doing some playing around, sorry but the apk from the back up has the same issue. It's the restoring of the data that fixes it. Even after the data has been restored, I can delete the email accounts and manual recreate them and they work fine.
Darn! had it working, but not sure how...
Hi guys,
I have been battling the "Activation Failed: unable to connect to network" problem on my Epic 4G Touch (SGS2) since last night (after flashing starburst 1.6).
I was excited that I got exchange to work again after formatting system, data, cache, then wiping factory data and dalvik, then reflashing starburst 1.6.
I got some voicemail errors, so i decided to try and re-flash again, and also to see if exchange would still work. After re-flashing the same way, Exchange doesnt work anymore. I repeated again just to be sure and still didnt work.
I guess I dont know how i got the exchange active sync problem to go away the first time. Maybe it was just dumb luck.

I PM'd PhantomHacker and he told me that it is a known issue with this ROM and it will be fixed. I was able to get things working again by flashing [ACS][Base Rom]Stock Rooted Odex & Deodex until the mail application in StarBurst is functional again. I haven't tried it, but you may have luck using the StarBurst Minimal AOSPmod that was released last night since it has the AOSP Email client on it.
ok, got it working again.
Hi again,
OK, I just got it to work again, and it wasn't all the fancy reflashing that fixed it.
I have re-flashed several times to try and fix this problem and I noticed that after reflashing, my security pin is still active from my previous flash. I remembered that i had removed the pin before flashing the first time also.
I went into Settings -> Location and Security -> Change screen lock -> none. Then I was able to setup Exchange active-sync without getting the error.
I hope this works for others!
My voicemail problems I mentioned (error V30) went away by itself after about 30 minutes.
I tried flashing a custom ROM for the first time last night and so far I am really loving it. The only problem is, after flashing the CM11 M7 ROM it wont access any data over the cell network. I did figure out that if using Titanium Backup I restore my stock ROMs 4.3 data only from the Phone/Messaging Storage (SMS/MMS/APN) then reboot the network data does work. However, this causes the SMS to cease functioning. As soon as any app (default messenger, hangouts, 2-3 others I tried from store) tries to open it immediately crashes. Interestingly, it also will not allow me to restore my SMS records using Super Backup at this point. If I go back into Titanium backup then wipe the data for this process then the SMS starts working again, but all the old messages have been cleared, and as soon as I restart the phone the Network data is not working again.
Any ideas on what to do? I am wondering if maybe I need to adjust something in my APN profile, though I have absolutely no idea where I would get the information to do this.
This is what I am working with:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 (AT&T) -- [though currently I am using a TIGO sim card in Guatemala, wonder if this could have anything to do with it? was not a problem prior to switching the ROM though]
ROM: cm-11-20140608-SNAPSHOT-M7-d2lte.zip , the Cyanogenmod CM11 Snapshot lte release from yesterday
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version: I747UCUEMJB
Kernel Version: 3.4.91-cyanogenmod-g9b9605b8 [email protected] #1
Anyways, only having one or the other of my network data vs sms working is not really an option for me, so need to figure something out.
Thanks!

I apologize in advanced for not answering your question.
Is your issue that you cannot even get a signal with CM installed? I am also having the same issue.
Did your phone get signal/mobile network with the stock ROM? I am unable to find out if mine will work right now because it would take me a few days to download the stock ROM image...
Will be following this thread...
Mike
Have you checked that the APN on your phone is the right one for your carrier? Google search apn tigo guatemala galaxy s3 Many useful results will come up.
Ok here is how this played out. I did just need to reset then re enter the apn info for tigo in Guatemala. I actually managed to pull this info out of my pre flash backup from when I was using the stock Rom, then wipe the data for the process mentioned. This restored sms functionality and I then was able to manually enter the apn info (if anyone needs the Guatemala tigo apn info just post here and I can grab it when I am next at my cpu). I find it interesting that the apn info was automatically present and correct when I was using the stock Rom, but when I flashed cm11 over it was not there.
Just arrived back in the US and popped in my AT&T SIM card, everything worked fine right off the bat with it.
In answer to your question, after flashing cm11 I did have signal, but only for calls and sms. The data component of the network was not recognized.
