I bought a rooted HTC Desire HD quite a while ago, and in a moment of madness, I downloaded an app to "unroot" my phone, thinking it may make it faster. Now I am wanting to root it and install a new ROM. I still have access to the bootloader and it says s-off at the top, but when I try to get use root or install superuser I get an error. If someone could help I would be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance,
Morgan
Flash either a superuser zip or a rooted ROM from recovery.
Okay, I'll try that now. Thanks

Download the latest unrEVOked and install the modified USB drivers correctly! (search for the thread in the forums). I did everything as they said, and rooted my desire (with latest updates) without any problem.
use amon ra recovery image
Can anyone please help me????
I rooted my Droid Incredible2 with AlphaRev X and it said complete but I don't have root access. I tried to root again and Alpharev X told me that my phone was already rooted with S off. When I boot in bootloader it shows S off but no root access. I installed and uninstalled SU several times with no luck. Can someone please help me, I am starting to go crazy!!! I'm eager to get Rom manager back up and running like I had on my original Droid!!!
Maybe this will help you. Good luck.

Did you install the clockwork mod with the alpharev? If so, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745

Nope, I did not install the clockmod with alpharev, I am starting to think that is related to my problem. Is their a way to do that manually other than just though the market?
I wish people would get the fact that obtaining S-OFF is not the same as rooting the phone.
That said, there's a guide in the dev section for flashing Clockwork Recovery.
Ok, So I understand that S off is not the same as rooting the phone, that's why I stated S off with no root for my thread. So installing clockmod won't help my problem because I still won't be rooted...right. Or am I missing something?
You need to first flash a recovery image onto the phone. Then install superuser. All of the steps needed are in the thread that I posted earlier.
Install CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160814
Install rooted kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133169
Then install Superuser and Busybox from the Market
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer
All together here in one zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745
I have just bought 2 HTC Desire phones 2nd hand for my wife and myself. One was already rooted, with su access and Nikez-Lente-1.0.1b2-bravo rom running very stably. The other was unlocked but branded and with a stock sense rom (not sure if if was gingerbread or ics).
So I immediately set about "rooting" the stock phone. I used Revolutionary, got s-off and installed sandvold Beta_0.18.2.1. I then installed Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed and expected to get root/su access on the phone. It was only when I tried using a2sd tool that I found I didn't have root/su access. Since then I've put the phone back to RUU and tried using unrevoked to root, but it fails everytime with a message "do you have a newer firmware?" or something like that.
I've put 4EXTRecoveryUpdater touch recovery on, installed Nikez-Lente-1.0.1b2-bravo again, installed su again, still no access. I've tried Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed, still no joy. Nothing seems to be able to put this phone into su/root mode.
And the strange thing is, both phones are on hboot 6.93.1002. So why can I not root the other phone?
I've searched the net for 2 days now and can find nothing to help. All the guides for unrevoked make it look like the simplest thing in the world to do.
What do I need to do?
Check my sig, desire all things root, s-off using revolutionary. Theres a superuser zip file there, try flash that in recovery. Where did u get that superuser zip file?

Yh i think with that site u have to download and flash the su binary aswell as the superuser.zip
download & flash this in recovery and u should be rooted
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip
This is the SU file from the guide in my sig
Sent from my HTC Desire
Thanks for that
Tried that one, still getting "permission denied" in terminal.
Just a thought - should I downgrade the bootloader to an unrevoked compliant one?

Cheers. Can you suggest a rom that does?
hi,
i have a dhd which was already rooted and had a custom rom installed, i installed couple more roms and then finally decided to go back to stock.
i searched XDA and downloaded stock firmware from this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731324
installed it and it went smooth, i am now running android 2.3.5 stock rom.
BUT I ALSO LOST MY ROOT ACCESS.
I AM STILL S-OFF, DONT KNOW IF BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED OR UNLOCKED.
SO HOW CAN I GET ROOT IN STOCK ROM?
PLEASE HELP WHAT TO DO.
and i have searched and have only got AAHK to root DHD which i cannot use as it is not available anymore.
PLEASE HELP
Fastboot flash a recovery, then recovery flash a superuser zip. If you run a RUU, of course you will lose root.
I recently rooted my HTC Desire 816, but I didn't flash a custom ROM or anything. I've been trying to unroot through the method of using SuperSU but when I then reboot my phone SuperSU has returned and I still have root access.
Am I doing something wrong? I don't really understand why it isn't removing root when all of the tutorials I've seen online say to simply use this method to unroot.
Also, is it possible to keep the custom recovery? As I find it useful for backing up, I just don't really find the root/SuperSU very useful since I'm not planning to flash a custom ROM.
Cheers guys!
