http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837315

but when i try to run a rooted app (ex. ROM MANAGER) it tells me that im not rooted.
Any Help?
Ive managed to Get ClockWorkmod Recovery on my phone but thats it.
plz help !
Just load a custom rom on the root of your sd card, and flash it from recovery, all custom roms have root built into them. Make a nandriod back up of your current rom prior to flashing the custom rom, this also can be done from recovery.
You can find a stock rooted Tmobile rom HERE.

Hello I want to know if there is any way to install a custom ROM (like Oxygen) to the HTC Desire without root access.
I never tried it, but I read a post that one guy can install the Oxygen ROM without root.

Here I am following this guild http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD, but I am not going any further than 1. since I don't know anything about temp root. I have rooted the g1 only so far. Please help.
Why is it considered temporary? What disables it? What happens when it is disabled? Can it be made permanent without this Visionary thing that has a high potential to brick your phone?
Thanks in advance.
HTC phone has a feature that reverts any system change after reboot. So, for example, if you root you phone, it will unroots itself upon boot.
Temp root does just that: root your phone, do stuffs that you want, then after you reboot you will loose root.
Permanent root: you will have to turn off the security feature aforementioned first, which is called S-ON. After achieving S-OFF, you can now install any ROM, makes any system change you want (root, for example) then it will stay. Normally people will install a pre-rooted ROM, thus achieve permanent root.
To have S-OFF please follow this guide which you already found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik..._Root_.2F_.22Permaroot.22.29_using_gfree_v0.7
After achieving S-OFF, you can install any ROM that you want, as aforesaid, and have permanent root.
Temp root is a way to gain temporary root access to your phone's files. I would not recommend trying to gain permanant root via visionary. It is highly capable of bricking your phone. Gain temp root, downgrade your phone to stock 2.1, and then you can permanantly root using adb. From there you can install custom roms and what have you. Here is a link to the permanant root guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965 . Good luck.

Great thanks guys for the quick replies. I'm going to follow those steps... not sure if they tell how to/when to load the custom rom. Do they?
If they don't I'll come back. Thanks again guys, giving thanks to both of you.
Woah that guide is ancient.
Use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2 its up to date.

After you have rooted, you can go to most rom threads and they tell you how to install. Youll go to recovery and wipe data, cache, and dalvik. Then install zip from sd card. Then you will select the zip for the rom you put on your sd. Simple as that.

hi,
i have a dhd which was already rooted and had a custom rom installed, i installed couple more roms and then finally decided to go back to stock.
i searched XDA and downloaded stock firmware from this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731324
installed it and it went smooth, i am now running android 2.3.5 stock rom.
BUT I ALSO LOST MY ROOT ACCESS.
I AM STILL S-OFF, DONT KNOW IF BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED OR UNLOCKED.
SO HOW CAN I GET ROOT IN STOCK ROM?
PLEASE HELP WHAT TO DO.
and i have searched and have only got AAHK to root DHD which i cannot use as it is not available anymore.
PLEASE HELP
Fastboot flash a recovery, then recovery flash a superuser zip. If you run a RUU, of course you will lose root.
I bought a rooted HTC Desire HD quite a while ago, and in a moment of madness, I downloaded an app to "unroot" my phone, thinking it may make it faster. Now I am wanting to root it and install a new ROM. I still have access to the bootloader and it says s-off at the top, but when I try to get use root or install superuser I get an error. If someone could help I would be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance,
Morgan
Flash either a superuser zip or a rooted ROM from recovery.
Okay, I'll try that now. Thanks
