[POLL] Greenify or Freeze? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I would like your opinion on this.
If you had the option to Greenify or to freeze your system applications, what would you do/choose?

System apps, FREEZE.
User Apps, Greenify of course, why would you install an app and freeze it?

I should rephrase what I said.
Is it better to freeze or greenify system applications, instead.
And I do freeze my installed applications like Airdroid, Skype and Viber. They do run even when you Greenify them.

Airdroid is no problem to Greenify, but Skype and Viber (yahoo, whatsapp etc..)won't receive any messages or phone calls since Greenify only unfreeze them when you ask for them by tapping their icons.
System apps can't be greenify. Greenify doesn't see system apps.

Why would I greenify an app which I don't use or I am going to use it very rare? The best way is to freeze it or simply uninstall it. Greenify runs in the forground process so the app would itself drain the battery.

An app like Tapatalk always run in the background. I don't want to unfreeze it each time i'm using it but I don't want it to run when I don't use it. Greenify is perfect for this. Most apps always check for updates or do some background work. Greenify helps a lot the battery cuz instead of having 10 apps running in the background you only have the one, Greenify.

I have the donate version of Greenify so I do have the option to hibernate them.
Yes, I underdtand the consequences when Greenify-ing messaging applications but I still find them useful when I open them and use them as normal.

At 2-3 megabytes of RAM, I don't see any drain for Greenify. There are many instances that I would like to use an application and Greenify would be more convenient than a freeze.

Greenify both system apps and installed apps...

Greenify - Amazing for the I9000.

My SGS used to need the cache clearing every few days as it gradually slowed down over time. It also had quite a few wakelocks.
I installed Greenify from the Play Store and It makes my SGS consistently buttery smooth and after a few days there's not a hint of slowdown. It has also removed almost all of my wakelocks, greatly improving my battery life.

LEt's see if this works.
Im not that happy with it, my swipe keyboard is still runing in background, and whatsup and viber are fully turned off if you "greenify" them (meaning you need to open the apps to see if you got new messages. There are better apps for rom control

Your not supposed to greenify apps like Viber & Swipe. They need to run in the background to function properly.
I use it, and its worked better than any other program like it.

if u prefer socializing over performances, this app wasnt good idea, but sure, greenify hibernates selected apps making no cache building in RAM.

[Q] Applications hogging the RAM

I'm running CM9 by Arco and the main problem that I have is a shortage of RAM. I don't really want to swap roms, but what I would like to do is remove applications that I'm not running from the RAM. Facebook, for example, isn't set to provide any notifications, isn't running, has been cleared from the recent apps, and is still taking up 30MB of RAM. aCalendar is another - it's one of two 3rd party calendar apps that I run and is the only one that is constantly taking up ram.
Any ideas?
I looked into an app that would periodically clear out the RAM, but this took up 30MB of RAM itself! So there wasn't really any point. What is the reason that Facebook is constantly taking up RAM?
Edit:
DSPManager is another example, and so is 'Google Messaging'. Can I do without them?

Greenify is what you are looking for, but it only hybernates installed apps, not system apps. So for example facebook and your aCalendar. However some of the system apps you do not need like for example the dspmanager or google talk, you can deactivate in settings->apps.

Greenify seems absolutely spot on so far, thank-you very much. Noticeable difference in performance.

Greenify is still doing a great job. Is there a way of blocking DSP manager and Google Messaging though? I presume that Google Messaging is only used by the Google Hangouts app, which I never use.

Don´t know about Google Messaging but the apps you don´t want tu use you can simply deactivate in Settings-> Apps. Click on the app you want to deactivate and launch the deactivate button. Just be careful about deactivating system apps and google a bit if it´s save to deactivate a certain app. You for sure can deactivate CM-Updater, Google Talk or Hangouts, the Apollo app if you prefer to use an other app and for example the DSP-Manager.
Edit: DSP-Manager can´t be deactivated this way. You have to use root explorer and either rename it by adding for example .bak behind it or to delete it. By using a custom Kernel with incrased audio volume, you will probably anyway not need the DSP-Manager.

Might be something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29369439&postcount=4
It can be any program that is not closed properly (eg. running in the background), like Youtube.
Does it also occur when your device is rebooted and NO program is started? (See in the apps listing which apps are running right after resetting)
it is manifested even when the device has just been restarted. I try to freeze youtube and see how it goes?
Does anyone know a program to check if the battery is still working?
Hi. Maybe try to untick conversation tones (notifications) in whatsapp.

Try to use Greenify. That'll stop programmes from restarting.
As has been said that particular wake lock is an app that hasn't closed Properly.
When I get it I terminate apps one by one each time going back to bbs hitting refresh to see if the wakelock has stopped increasing. When it does I know that's the app I need to greenify.

thx for explain.
Last night as I needed the phone fully functional, I 've formatted. I will update if the problem recurs and if I were to do only 3 hours of screen on. If greenefy will install (I have to buy it or even the free version is fine?)
Thank you.

Any time.
I use the free version. It is a very good app. Make sure you delete all sounds within the phone settings as well. Such as tts, keyboard sounds/vibrations etc.

Greenify

I have a rooted device with Xposed. For Greenify, do I just check the boxes under the Xposed module, set it and forget it? The actual app and choosing what to greenify is complicated.

Just do some research on here how to use Greenify. It's not truly an app you set and forget. You'll need to enable some things and keep an eye on it to be sure it's properly hibernating your apps and you have the option to Hibernate system apps.
You'll also have to manually select what apps you want Hibernate, it won't just Hibernate everything on your phone by default because some apps won't work properly or won't Hibernate, and you'll also have settings for getting all your notifications from Hibernated apps as well.
So it's not terribly hard to set up but some reading will go a long way that's all.

Apps for Rooted Moto 360

Curious if anyone has tried or had any luck running anything like Greenify or Titanium Backup on the Moto 360. I did get Greenify to load properly, and the interface is useable, but I couldn't actually get it to hibernate any apps. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck hibernating/freezing any apps.

Just a follow-up, once I had proper root on the Moto 360, Greenify does work, and it does hibernate apps, which is cool. You have to manually run it, but it does work. I never did get Titanium Backup to run though.

Yes, open the app and click zzz to hibernate all selected apps.
I actually hibernated about all of the apps I could, tough to tell if it really helped with battery life.

what's zzz?
Zzz is Greenify's hibernate button.
