Hi everyone.. i am having a strange issue here.. whenever i try to flash my phone using lg software update, everything goes well till the time phone restarts to upgrade. phone should go into software update mode but never boots up.. then i have to forcefully shutdown phone by holding power button and then phone restarts normally . previously i unrooted my phone .. and again tried to root it and failed.. so downloaded new kdz and tried to flash it but failed... i tried emergency mode bu holding up and down volume key and inserting the cable but nothing happens , seems like phone is not going into software update mode.. Please help..
you must come into download mode
phone must shut down! then vol + and - hold (NO POWER) and connect with the usb cable
1sec. later you must be in download mode :/
thats what i am trying.. its not going in that mode.. i corrupted my download mode or something?

Well a friend of mine got a new nexus couple of weeks ago. He's pretty much an android newbie so he didn't root it, it was SimFree so he just used the system update and got JB 4.1.2 (I think was the version) over the stock ICS. Well today the phone out of the blue just got to rebooting on its own, and now it never boots. It gets to the animated X logo after the Google logo and that's it. I did try booting it up vit vol- + pwr btn pressed and it got into ODIN MODE where it says
Start
Downloading...
do not turn off target!!!
I have no idea what ODIN mode is, since I only had a couple of HTC's,huaweis etc.
Is this ODIN mode the recovery? Is there anything I can do with the phone? Hard reset or something like that?
thx
No, it's not bricked. When you hold both vol buttons + power that's the bootloader. Also just flash it back to stock via fastboot.
If u can get to download mode u should be safe. Work from there. Should fined everything u need in Nexus Forum.

How can I do that? From Odin mode or from the bootloader? I got into bootloader and there's the Start ,restart bootloader, recovery mode, and power off options. I tried getting to recovery mode but it also wont start.
I installed a bunch of roms on motorola cliq,a ton of htcs,a couple of huaweis all from cwm but this ODIN mode is something new for me.I have no idea what it's for

Thx man that worked like a charm :good:
Have there been any updates on how to root the Galaxy s2 without usb. I've tried to use the sd card but when I attempt to flash it it says E:failed to verify whole-signature. The phone is not being recognized by usb and I can not get the phone into download mode at all. It keeps going to the (a)revocery mode.
Please tell me how you are attempting to go into download mode?
And have you installed latest Samsung drivers on your computer? Exactly what happens when you plug phone into computer?
No, you can't do anything without USB.

Which Phone you have? I mean Telus or Tmobile ? Both have different Key combination for putting the phone in Download mode.
Telus version - Only Press Volume down while rebooting
Tmobile- Press Both Volume Down and UP while rebooting
Hope this helps.
I have a TMobile galaxy s2 and im trying to root it but I can't get into download mode to use Odin. The PC does not even recognize my phone as a hard drive when I connect it. I did install the Samsung drivers, I've tried to get into download miss by holding the Vol+ and - and Inserting the USB but it only goes to recovery.

For kicks and giggles, have you held just power and volume down......waited for the vibration.....then kept holding down.... But let go of power???
I'm on Telus.....that's how I go to download mode. Works every time reliably.
For me power plus volume up and down is for recovery.

If I were you, I'd charge the battery externally. Then try the .KDZ again.

Try ofline fix method to flash KDZ file at download mood. it will be ok.
try putting your phone to download mode and run LG Mobile support tool. you can use the kdz offline mode around these forums.connect the phone and then click "upgrade recovery" or something like that. it will automatically download the latest. (kitkat). downloading ( if not offline ) might take some time since it will download 1.6Gb( for F240 ) and after the software upgrade, the phone will restart. and done.

i have done the same but no luck... a lg logo then a flash and then it start charging... no download mode at all
hello
i have an unlocked boot loader and rooted optimus g E971. today i flashed rom kitkat 4.4 everything went well no issues. I decided to go back to my back up and reflashed my stock rom once again everything went well. i noticed i was still rooted when i went back to stock but wasn't when on 4.4 which is another topic later. anyways i decided to install rom manager to experiment and i had stability issues with it. i noticed the phone would crash and reboot with secure booting error, i was able several times to restart phone and use. Now the phone cracshed before i could delete rom manger and im stuck on secure booting error. I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44874388&postcount=36 however the problem is i can't get into download mode or recovey... Phone does nothing but say secure booting error, boot certification verify. trying numerous times nope not happening .after reading several posts im assuming this is all because the bootloader was not unlocked after reflashing back to stock.. is my phone garbage or how can i fix...pls help :crying:
This means you didn't unlock the bootloader.
To enter download mode, turn off the phone, then press vol up+vol down at the same time and plug the micro usb cable to pc. You will enter download mode. After using kdz updater, make a hard reset by turning off phone, then press vol down+power at the same time, until the hard reset menu will appear. Press power twice to confirm and that's it. A new stock phone.
After this, you can root and unlock it again. Just remember to put somewhere safe the freegee folder after you unlock.

Press just the power button for a minute
Now press both volume buttons and plug in the USB cable. It should go into download mode.
If not press power again for a minute and plug in charger and see if it shows regular charging animation.

This is a longshot but since you dont have warranty you might give it a try.
Remove the back of the phone (there are tutorials on youtube for "disassembling ascend P6") and then remove the battery inside. Afterwards connect the phone to your ac charger, and retry to force update (power button while holding vol + and - buttons).
I really dont know if this works, but when i bricked my other huawei phone (u8800) where the battery was removable I managed to restore it using the aforementioned method..
Best of luck!
I had same problem last week, press volume up/down when phone boot. and keep pressing those buttons.
Dosnt work every time.. download firmware first and add it to external sd/dload folder..
i think i lost my stock recovery, i dont know why but i think that happened, but can anyone tell if the loss of the recovery will lead to the failure of force update? (in my case it won't start at all just stuck at logo)
if that happened i might try reflashing stock recovery with fastboot
ok i tried to flash stock recovery via fastboot, but the problem is my pc only reads my device when i connect it to it then hold power and vol - buttons till it reboots, then my pc reads it as an adb interface but it shows that it failed to install device drivers although i already installed the usb drivers and updated google usb drivers from android sdk, and everytime i try to flash recovery via adb (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) it stuck with waiting for device
it seems its not recognized properly, am i hard bricked? :crying:
same problem with ascend mate
hi,
I have the same exact problem with my ascend mate mt1. its always stuck to ascend logo. when I press power button and hold cannot turn off. always turn on by itself. if I press volume down and power button, my computer can recognize it as fastboot. drivers can install no problem. can see the device when I type fastboot devices. when I try to install recovery with fastboot I always get that error says "not allowed". tried sd card update with press volume up + down no luck, also tried it with removing the battery but same. I think its hard bricked or something if you find a solution please let me know.
Thanks a lot !

i managed to get my pc to read my device properly (uninstalled usb drivers and reinstalled then voilla ) then flashed stock recovery via fastboot and the device booted just fine, however i cant connect to my network now although my phone sees it :crying:
anyway, make sure ur device is properly working with fastboot, just type fastboot devices in cmd and u should see some letters or numbers
also did u tried different recoveries it may be bad recovery file
Thanks
thanks for the fast reply. when I connected via fastboot its doesn't shows the serial numbers. its shows like question mark instead of serial number. I cannot find the stock recovery file , I only tried with twrp recovery and it gave the that message " Not allowed". I think I don't have driver issue but I will try though.
