[Q]Root on Mac? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

All I own is apple. Any way to root the new 211 fw with a mac?
Sent from my LT28h using xda premium

Wow owning apple must be nice.
Anyway, you can not root on osx directly but you can either use bootcamp or an vm program.
You can download any windows os, install it and test it for 30 days for free, that should be enough time to root.

Yeahhh I didn't want to do bootcamp just root but guess I'll have to. Thanks

Google for vmware, it's easier and faster than bootcamp if you only want it for rooting.

Or try VirtualBox from Oracle. I find it has a smaller footprint running on the Mac than VMWare Fusion does.

Linux or windows on gx2?

Hi, I was wondering if its possible to put Linux or windows or any other rom on the gx2? What I want to do is try and play a game called conquer online on my phone. So I would need to be able to install the application. Is this possible?

Yes, you can. Look up Ubuntu Installer in the market. It is really easy to install, but I'd suggest buying the paid version to make it even easier and faster.

Android is Linux, but I guess you mean a desktop OS like Ubuntu. While you cannot replace it from my knowlededge, you can run them simultaneously, albeit slowly. I haven't tested this with the Xperia Play, but hey, it's worth a shot! Search Opensourcegangster on Youtube.
Just search backtrack for android and bam

I wouldnt care to much for Ubuntu on my GNII unless it was easily (ie: switch SD cards is all it would require to dualboot into ubuntu) applicable and then when I want to go back to regular I just put back in my original SD... until then this just isnt going to be the device for that OS

Im sure it can be ported. I saw the video that was on the ubuntu website that says it runs with all the same drivers android uses. So I am preety confident that our devs here on xda can build a ubuntu rom with no hassle at all. I personally would love to see a change on my galaxy note 2. I would love to see ubuntu (my favorite os) running on it.
it wont be just flashing a rom through recovery
youll need to use some program to flash ubuntu on the nexus phones

considering the Exynos seems to be notorious as being one of the more difficult SOC's to developer for I doubt we'll see a well running version of Ubuntu right away. I would like to see it though, and look forward to flashing it on my Nexus.
I am thinking about buying a nexus 4 just to run Ubuntu. I am going to install it on my nexus 7 tomorrow morning first thing.

Yes it would be nice also if they gave the hd2 treatment to the gn2 and make this phone a rom flashing monster!!! Haha those were the days lol...anyway back to flashing Ubuntu...I can only wonder how itll run with our large screens mhmm lol

Seeing as the ubuntu ROM is a CM variant, I'm sure we'll be seeing it down the road

Rooting on a Mac?

I tried motochopper method and it fails and have been trying the heimdall method but am having problems installing libusb. Macs are easily accessible to me but since my pc crapped out on me I don't have easy access to a pc that I can download stuff on, anyone with Mac experience rooting able to help? I've already read the threads on it and can't figure it out and they are old and doesn't seem like support is there anymore. Thanks

If you use an XP disc, it shouldn't be very big. Create a dynamic virtual disk and then delete it when you're done.
