I wouldnt care to much for Ubuntu on my GNII unless it was easily (ie: switch SD cards is all it would require to dualboot into ubuntu) applicable and then when I want to go back to regular I just put back in my original SD... until then this just isnt going to be the device for that OS

Im sure it can be ported. I saw the video that was on the ubuntu website that says it runs with all the same drivers android uses. So I am preety confident that our devs here on xda can build a ubuntu rom with no hassle at all. I personally would love to see a change on my galaxy note 2. I would love to see ubuntu (my favorite os) running on it.
it wont be just flashing a rom through recovery
youll need to use some program to flash ubuntu on the nexus phones

considering the Exynos seems to be notorious as being one of the more difficult SOC's to developer for I doubt we'll see a well running version of Ubuntu right away. I would like to see it though, and look forward to flashing it on my Nexus.
I am thinking about buying a nexus 4 just to run Ubuntu. I am going to install it on my nexus 7 tomorrow morning first thing.

Yes it would be nice also if they gave the hd2 treatment to the gn2 and make this phone a rom flashing monster!!! Haha those were the days lol...anyway back to flashing Ubuntu...I can only wonder how itll run with our large screens mhmm lol

Seeing as the ubuntu ROM is a CM variant, I'm sure we'll be seeing it down the road

Hi, I was wondering if its possible to put Linux or windows or any other rom on the gx2? What I want to do is try and play a game called conquer online on my phone. So I would need to be able to install the application. Is this possible?

Yes, you can. Look up Ubuntu Installer in the market. It is really easy to install, but I'd suggest buying the paid version to make it even easier and faster.

This phone runs android and Linux, that is all... possibly open webos should some dev ever feel sufficiently inclined to port it. If you want a windows phone buy a windows phone...
Also can someone link me to the iOS 6 port for this phone! Not seeing it in search and my common sense seems to be malfunctioning
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
If such a ROM ever did come into existence it wouldn't be a true windows rom but rather one based on a windows theme, which quite frankly can already be done on our phones based on themed launchers and particular apps which give it that Windows "feel".
Install EL29, Install Blazer's 4.1 ROM, Download Launcher 7, Run it. There you go
You will probably need FOTAkill.apk or Something to kill ota updates, I did.
I say EL29 because when I ran Launch 7 on ICS, it just didn't work right. And Blazer's kills off the Bloatware, Caulkin's does the same too. You can just run Launcher 7 if you feel so inclined without any of the hoopla.
isnt there a windows 8 launcher now? lol

On a related note, it's not impossible. It's just incredibly unlikely to ever happen anytime soon.
And incredibly pointless, in my opinion.

It's not impossible. Just extremely improbable. Windows 8 and iOS are closed OS' and if ANY person ports it to a completely different platform that person would get sued into oblivion.

There's are some pretty decent windows 8 launchers out there.. Some of them even get the notification bar right.. I can't tell you which ones are the best but just search the play Store and try them
Edit... I don't think they have the live tiles..But I might be wrong..

Here's the thing. You own the device, not the software.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
In theory it should be possible. We are using an ARM-powered phones and so does Microsoft/Nokia. However, we will need drivers for our hardware, such as graphics, and Microsoft won't give you those. The very helpful community here needs kernel source code to write them for you and that means Microsoft has to give you kernel source code. Do you begin to see the problem?
And then, after all that, your phone does not exist in a vacuum, no, it uses services provided by Microsoft, and you have an unauthorized device consuming them. I imagine they would respond the same way as when people tried to mod their XBOXes. You will be left with a perfectly functional useless phone.
Argument is the same for running iOS on our phones: possible, but very difficult and ultimately pointless.
Wait a few months and you will be able to run Ubuntu on your phone. Maybe.

HD2 was unique in that it was a windows phone that shared the exact hardware specifications of an existing android phone. Therefore, drivers, binaries and such didn't have to be created from scratch in order to port the os.
Today, Canonical announced the Ubuntu Phone OS, which will, in the near future, will be installable on current Android devices, starting with the Galaxy Nexus I believe. Is it just me, or cam anyone else not wait for this?!
For those of you who haven't seen it yet, here's the link: www.ubuntu.com/devices/phone

Man the possibilities with having a real desktop computer in your hands and being able to run desktop applications right off the phone and not the slimmed down apps we download from google play. Looks great too.

I wonder if they'll make it for tablets soon too. Eventhough the tablet I have has ubuntu ported already, but not for mobile. Just the plane desktop OS.
I second the dual booting idea! The Ubuntu phone looks awesome just like the Ubuntu Desktop looks awesome. But I can't help but think that like the Ubuntu desktop the phone will have a huge applications gaps to over come.

Honestly, I invested way too much time into customizing PA 2.54 (the last 4.1 Rom by PA) just how I want it and I haven't found a reason to change it. I just don't have the time anymore unfortunately to keep up with all the amazing and rapid development that xda chefs keep putting out
I did really miss photosphere though so I just wanted that.

Yeah it's not just the paprefs, it's everything else too. Just don't have the time to experiment too much anymore sadly. I'm happy with it till the new Nexus comes along
Nothin wrong with 4.2.1 IMO. I've actually thought about goin back because with it my Gnex got about twice the battery life than I'm getting with 4.2.2. I've tried almost every Rom and kernel too. Used to get about 7hrs screen time with my 3800mAh, now I get about 4 ever since 4.2.2. But I do like alot of the improvements tho so idk...Jus my opinion.
