Hello,
First let me start off that I have searched and searched for this and to no avail cannot seem to find a way to fix this. this problem has been reported on the Sprint Forums as well. Regardless here we go, I had to sent back my s3 to Samsung due to a failure in the usb hub/port upon receiving it back everything was fine except I couldn't connect to 4g. Went to an area where I know I always got 4g and still couldn't get it. I tried to completely refresh the phone a fresh stock image through Odin, still no 4g, called sprint and explained the problem and they provided me with the MSL. Got into my phone using ##data# and everything is set up fine, lte is enabled and radio mode is cdma/lte/evdo did a ##debug# and went into lte engineering, got these results

I have no idea what this means,I think maybe PmmMode is power management, if so why is it reading detached?
I am really trying to avoid sending my phone back to Samsung again to have the repair done as I will be out of a phone for 10-20 days, and cant afford that, currently unemployed and that is my only contact number at the moment for jobs I have been interviewing with. If anyone with wonderful XDA brand knowledge could help me out it would be much appreciated, Also like to note that there is one other odd thing, phone keeps telling me No SIM, I didn't think this phone ever had a SIM due to it being cdma sprint. Anyway please and thank you for the future
If it was me I would ODIN back to Stock. Call up Sprint directly. Tell the what the issue is, and ask ( very firmly ) that they provide you with a loaner phone as it is your only means of communication till your device is repaired. I know that they Best Buy provides a loaner phone if you are going to be without a Device for more than a day. I have also had Sprint send me an OG EVO 4G overnight so I would not have to be without a Device. They ended up just swapping them out. I never even had to go into a store. So again I would suggest calling Sprint directly, and explain the issue.
Already reverted back to stock with odin, did all ota updates, even did ##rtn# still no 4g,sprint has told me multiple times on each call that they can't send me a lender phone, Maybe I could talk to Samsung and explain it to them and ask if they can just send me a brand new one since its under manufacturer's warranty and I have had multiple problems with the device. Still I would like to delve into it and see if there is a way to fix it by yourself as a reference for future issues since this seemed to be a common problem on sprint forums, even another one here on XDA itself
That last screen shot of it asking for you to insert sim indicates to me there's something wrong with the device. I have seen several times where people's phones have asked sim card and their devices where damaged and replaced.
Sent from the future via Tapatalk 4
that sim message went away after and ota update,I think it may have been the version of android at the point of time or the configuration of the radio was set to global and not cmda let evdo
As I looked further I am actually going to work in qpst and downgrade to lg2 radio,to a back up and see if I can reprogram the 4g myself somehow, like I said I really do not want to send it to Samsung even though that is the easiest fix for it, I want to find a way to fix this myself to share with the community and hopefully stop the issue from reoccurring, so wish me luck lol, if you guys come across any info link it here, I already looking up qpst and changing the spc to 000000 even though I do not need to do that I am using that as a base for this endeavor, also going to write to 00000 prl to see if it makes a 4g connections with any towers.
Well after speaking to sprint multiple times no one can find out anything to fix it,they allowed me a advanced exchange for another s3 and tech noted the account as such,so just grabbing a new GS3, hopefully this issue doesn't continue
Alright, got the new s3 and using it to compare settings, this is the new LTE settings ins the ##debug# menu,it looks like it was connecting to the wrong band before hand,I think there is a way to change it,hopefully this helps someone out there,I think you can actually chnange the band in the ##debug# menu before, regardless, since I have a new one, I am backup up EVERYTHING lol, made 2 different types of nv item backups, gonna to back up the rooted stock rom I have as well before doing anything.
Glad you're finally sorted out.

What started out as an effort to get my migrated XV6800 to operate on Verizon's data network has taken a nasty turn for the worse... Here is the long, sordid story, and I would really appreciate help in getting this device back onto the Verizon network.
This was originally a Qwest phone. I unlocked it and flashed it with a Verizon ROM, the file name is _Verizon XV6800_RUU_TITAN_VZW_WWE_3.57.605.1_RS_TITAN_3.37. 75_OM_VZW_ShipFULL. After I did that the customization routines did not run. Frankly, I don't know if they were supposed to or not, but they didn't.
I couldn't get the phone to connect to the Verizon network, even on *228. Eventually I applied a PRL and then I was able to connect to *228, and option #3 got the phone onto the voice network. I used it as my cell phone for two weeks with no issues on the voice network. Still, I wasn't able to get data working.
These are the things I tried while troubleshooting the data issue:
* Loaded the carrier cab from DCD
* Forced a CDMA only connection to download new keys
* Loaded the newest Verizon ROMs I found while at their website (this is the first time I saw customization routines)
* Told Verizon to switch me from pay as you go data to unlimited data (though it looks like they never turned this on)
* Tried activating my PDA with a different Verizon number, and then re-activating it with my original Verizon number
* Did a hard reset
It's those last two steps that screwed me. After I swapped the number off the phone I wasn't able to get it back. I could get to option #3, but it wouldn't let me activate the phone. Their tech support is no help and they are shocked when they look back at my account history and see that I was able to use *228 to get this phone on their network two weeks ago.
I then did a hard reset and got myself all the way back to the point where I was before I manually put the PRL in place. When I dial *228 I get the following: "Your account is not authorized to make calls to this phone number. I you would like to have additional capabilities added to your account please call customer service. Message 4, swich 691". I'm guessing that installing a PRL on the phone will now let me use option #3, because that's what made it work last time. However, I'm looking for instructions since I messed up somewhere in the process last time.
I just tried the following, but I get a recording saying they are unable to activate my phone at this time and then it tried to connect me to a person.
1. Install PRL
2. Install carrier cab
3. Install MMS cab
4. Run *228, #3
I know the person is just going to tell me that they can't help because their system doesn't recognize the ESN.
So what's the verdict, can I expect to get this phone back onto the voice network, will it ever work on the data network? Any help that anyone can offer in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.
Wrong forum? Should this have gone into upgrades?
moved thread by request of OP as Q&A forum did not provide answers nor does the OP expect it to.
Best regards,
Flar
Since being able to dial *228, have you called customer service to pull a new key for your device? When I upgraded a xv6800 rom I was not able to dial *228 until I did that. It was a bit of work getting it to pull the new key, but they did it. They first walked me through a manual registration process, then I think they tried to push it through and that worked.
Is your phone a Verizon phone? The pickle I'm in is that mine is not. When they ask me for the ESN they say it's unrecognized and that's pretty much it. They say they can't help me get it on the network because it's not a Verizon phone.

Yep mine is a verizon phone. I am wondering if this is a new implementation, because I have flashed several roms before and never had to call them to get my phone activated until about a month ago. When you dial *228 does it allow you to do a phone programing, I think it is option 1?
No. 1, 2, & 3 all fail. I just called tech support again, hoping getting a new A key would resolve this. He told me he couldn't give me an A key unless the phone's ESN was in the system and the only way to get it in there is through *228, #3... Kind of a Catch 22.
His last suggestion was that I activate a different PDA on my number and see if maybe the computer is choking because my current phone isn't a PDA, and this one is. Kind of sounds like clutching at straws, but he said at this point I've done all that can be done, short of that.
I find really odd, and extremely frustrating, that I can't find anyone else who has been through this with a non-Verizon phone.

From time to time I cannot connect to mobile data, even though 3G shows above the signal triangle. A few solutions that randomly work are to toggle the radio from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only (and then back to LTE), toggle in and out of airplane mode, and the last resort of rebooting. The only method that works consistently is rebooting. Happened again today, and I noticed a few oddities on the phone status page in settings:
- Both IMEI and MEID were shown as "unknown"
- Phone number was visible
- Mobile status shows "connected"
- IP addresses (both IPV4/IPV6) were assigned
Prior to this (for the past 108 or so hours of uptime) all was fine, but in the midst of playing Words with Friends the signal bars grayed out and would not resume the connection. After several trials of my "solutions", I had to reboot. Sure enough, after reboot all was well again, and the IMEI and MEID were again displayed correctly in the phone status page.
As my signature shows, I am stock unrooted. While I have seen that a few individuals somehow wiped out their efs partition during a flash, that doesn't seem to be the case here since all of my info came back upon reboot.
Thoughts?

Since you're completely stock, try exchanging for a referb with Verizon?
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?
I found that reseating the SIM card fixed my triangle (Roaming) issue. May be worth a shot.
I had this same issue. Sudden loss of service. IMEI: unknwon, Phone Number: unknown, etc...
I brought it to VZW to try a new sim. No go. They told be to call Samsung.
They verified that I actually had tried the idiot proof stuff, and confirmed its dead. Still under 1 year manufacturer's warranty. They're paying to mail it back and say they'll repair it, and send it back to me. Here's hoping they don't care that I've been flashing it like crazy for the past 5 months.

Hard to say our problems are related. I am stock unrooted, and as stated in the OP only my IMEI and MEID were unknown. Also came back on reboot. Chances are you killed your efs partition during one of your flashing sessions.

In the future, if anyones IMEI/MEID is perm-disabled due to whatever reason... my thread found here(Post #2) has info on repairing the Gnex MEID/ESN/IMEI.
This has happened to me recently. I've been flashing *safely* since the G1. Since Jelly Bean flasshing removed my network access. I went through a warranty repair and upon unlocking same problem. If my MEID or ESN is corrupt, I have not figured out how to repair it using Prime's instructions. That's a new world to me.

Autoprime, I did find that thread in my frenzied search to fix my phone. I downloaded the tool in post #2 but was confused how to get my phone connected as a COM port, or converserly, it would not recognize it when I changed the setting to USB. Do I need to put my phone in a particular mode, before that utility will recognize it? Do I have to go through the setup in Post #1 (ETS) prior to using the IMIE writing utility? Thanks.

as u said in last sentence... you will have to go thru post 1 steps(only some of them!) to connect to meid tool.
since you guys are on a verizon gnex.. you would need to flash a Sprint rom in order to set the phone into diag mode. i believe most vzw roms have these options left out.. at least stock did.
2 things are required for a successful Ets Diag connection...
1. setting diag mode... this is the *#*#DIAG#*#* menu
2. setting Ets Channel mode to "USB" . This is done in the *#*#DATA#*#* > More > Ets Channel settings.
It MAY be possible to stick with the Verizon rom and use the Sprint Diagnostics App: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774503
not sure if it works with VZW roms tho(im a sprint user).
The VIA Ets tool is the equivalent to messing with QPST/QXDM on Qualcomm phones. Just like Qualcomm phones have to be put into diag mode first before connecting to QPST, the Galaxy Nexus has to be set in the right mode as well.

Thanks very much for laying that out. Is this something that "just happens"? It seems like (over several months) I flashed 50 - 60 times, radio a few times, changed from CWM to TWRP with no problems and then in the middle of the day, I just lose signal.
Could it be a hardware issue? I read somewhere that a modem in a phone got fried and caused the same thing.

i mean.. in my experience it comes with messing with the phone.. the EFS etc. could be from a bad flash.. but yes it could be hardware... or theres even a small chance its just random. youd have to look at the factors leading up to the issue for the best guess.
overall tho.. outside of messing with the efs/NV.. its kinda weird for it just just to happen.. id consider that very rare.
UPDATE: sent back to Samsung. They replace the main board under warranty. Works like a charm now.

Missing MEID/IMEI no service but internet is working.
I've been searching high and low and have came across various forums that are related to my problem but I'm still not sure if its the problem I have
or what to do exactly. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus with VZW, rooted, running a custom ROM (CM10), Android version 4.1.2 JZO54K. My
service got disconnected and when I paid to get it reconnected I get an empty signal triangle and sometimes an R above it (roaming). My internet
works oddly enough but I'm unable to receive/make calls or text messages. My status reflects; Network: searching for service; Service state: out of
service; Mobile network state: disconnected; MEID: unknown; IMEI: unknown. Before my phone was disconnected it was working fine, please
help!!!
If you did some backups time to time and if you have backup of data folder, inside of data folder you should have folder radio. Inside the radio folder should have data.bin file and data.md5. In my case they was original data files of my phone and after their copy to factory folder ot restore my IMEI.
I hope that helps.

Hello, I am new here but have intermediate experience with devices.
Alright time to throw everyone for a loop lol, hopefully someone can help me out.
Here is my problem:
My phone is not connected to a network.
Here is what I have:
Samsung Galaxy S III with Metro PCS (NOT rooted, and with latest PRL and software updates)
What happened:
I woke up yesterday to find my phone not on Metros network, and not on a partner network. My 4G still works though, I can access internet but just can not call/txt or receive either.
In Settings > About Device > Status, here are some of the satus'...
Network: Searching for Service
Signal Strength: -93dBm 47asu
Mobile Network Type: LTE:14
Service State: Out of Service
Roaming: Not Roaming
My Phone Number: Unknown
Min: Unknown
PRL Version: 0
Things I've Done So Far:
Contacted Metro through phone support and Facebook support, neither could help fix the problem.
Took my phone into a Metro store and they wont honor a repair since my screen has a hairline crack in the screen. (which I will also say, they noted that already on my account...)
I've already went to *#22745927 and enabled the hidden menu multiple times (cause it disables with each restart) and I've went to **772 to view my MDN and MSID (MIN) and the MDN shows nothing and MSID has a 10 digit number (that's not the right number for my account), so I tried to edit them to the numbers that I know are correct and after I hit done, the phone restarts but then when it comes back on, nothings changed, and when viewing **772 again, the numbers don't save in the fields.
I know *#197328640# lets you access the service menu, but I don't really feel like touching any of that and making things worse (unless someone knows how to fix this issue through the service menu then ill do it)
Now that my long winded speech is done, its your turn to try and solve this dilemma and help me out please
I hope this is the right section to post in, sorry if it is not.
Thanks in advance to any help ^^ if anyone's got any other questions, ill try to answer them best as I can.

Did you IMEI change? Check if it's 004999010640000
1.) Wrong forum. You have a US Version of the S3. Not the international... Ask a mod to move it.
2.) Don't quote the WHOLE OP. Especially if you're the first flipping person to reply!

The IMEI question is still relevant, is it intact? But from what your saying it sounds like you have the old metro s3 model, meaning it's a cdma device not gsm like ours. You probably need to be in Sprints forum as their fixes for this kind of problem will likely be different than ours. I can already tell your dialer codes are different....

First of all thanks for posting
and the IMEI is fine and is there.
I got the GS3 from Metro the first day it came out.
Ok, it's probably the SCH-R530? model. Since T-Mobile bought metro they now have the SGH-T999N. The original one for them was a variant of Sprints if I remember right.
I'd just copy your OP here into a new thread there. They'll probably be better able to help than most people here.

Yea I went over to the Sprint GS3 forum and posted there and have had 3 replies so far.
Does anybody know how DocHoliday77 solved the S3 T999 stuck on EDGE problem? I've tried PM, but he seems to be gone. My T999 works fine in every way, except for being stuck on EDGE.
My IMEI is not 0. I've entered my IMEI on T-Mobile's IMEI verification web page, and it says it's good to go.
I bought 4 of these exact same phones several months ago -- kept one for myself and gave the others to my kids. Mine had the infamous problem where the seller had restored it to stock, but the flash counter was 1.
I recently tried a couple things to solve the EDGE-only problem. I first tried flashing CM11, thinking it might have better controls and better luck, but nope -- same problem, EDGE only. After that I decided to follow the thread about how to completely unroot, reset the flash counter, and get completely back to stock. After doing that, my device status began reporting as "official" (where before it had said modified), and I immediate got the OTA update from T-Mobile to push me up to 4.3.
Even after that, I'm still stuck on EDGE. If I try changing my network settings from WCDMA/GSM (Auto) to WCDMA only, I get no signal at all.
I tried the NV reader/writer to save my IMEI from location 550 (decimal) and then write it back; that didn't do anything either.
Since the other identical phones I gave to my kids do not have this problem, I know it is not my network nor my local towers. I also got all 4 of our SIM cards at the same time from the T-Mobile store, so I don't see how it could be the SIM card.
I suppose it's possible that I just have bad hardware, but it would be strange that only the 3g/4g part would be bad. It seems like something is just screwy with the firmware somehow, and I don't know how to get to it or where else to look.
Since I can't seem to reach DocHoliday77, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hello,
First, let me express my deepest thanks in advance for those of you who may be of assistance. I have visited this site many times over the years when I needed to find the answers to smartphone related issues (mostly rooting..etc). I have usually found the information that I needed via reading posts and trial and error; however, I am having a problem that I cannot find the answer to and it is frustrating the crap out of me.
So, here goes:
I bought a LG LS980 off of Ebay. It was locked to Sprint and I had a friend of mine root it (since I couldn't figure it out and it ended up being that the firmware had to be downgraded since a patch was bumped to it) and unlocked (or so i was told, but I do not know how to find out). It is currently running Cyanogenmod 12.1. I wanted to use my old phone's SIM and pop it into my new phone so that I could enjoy it (the old phone was a Nexus and ran hella slow). So, anyway.... I contacted NET10 customer support since that is my carrier and explained what I wanted to do. They let me know that as long as it is unlocked that I would be able to just swap the SIM into the new phone and should be good to go. They checked my IMEI and said that the phone was, indeed, compatible and as long as it is unlocked it should just be a matter of a simple ROM swap. Not the case. I put the SIM in and booted it up. It went from No Service to saying "Sprint" on the upper left hand corner. I try to make a call and it states that, "The code or number that I am dialing is incorrect, please try the code or number again". I looked this up on the internet and didn't find a focused answer. I talked to my friend and he stated that I may have to set up a new APN profile.
I have checked the APN settings on it and all of the APN profiles have the prefix "Verizon". I used this mini tutorial at http://forums.androidcentral.com/goo...-settings.html along with the NET10 settings to try and make a profile. Both of their workarounds don't seem to work. I can enter about half of the information and then either click BACK or SAVE and then the profile is gone. I am not sure this is the reason that my phone is not working, but I thought I would give it a try. I have also tried to use this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2798566 as a loose guide, TWRP installed. Keep in mind that I believe that my firmware was rolled back to ZVE. and not ZVD. When I have tried to edit the build.prop values at the tutorial states it does not save. Also, there are two lines that are not even in my build.prop (ro.build.target_operator and persist.service.crash.enable). When I have tried to edit or add it adds them but does not save and definitely does not persist through reboot. I feel as if I am close to getting the phone to work, but I am unsure where to go from here. I really do NOT want to have to go back to a stock ROM and all of that because....well.... my friend did the rooting and installing of cyanogenmod and I don't want to risk undoing all of his work and having to pay $ to have it done all over again (I have rooted phones..etc, but this G2 was a MOFO because of the firmware patch for me). NET10 CS and TS was of no help and they gave me a ticket number (and to tell you the truth the are outsourced and I can't understand what their reps are saying). So, does anyone have any advice or threads that I can look at? Like I said, I feel as if it is close, but no matter what number I call it says that recording. I get no incoming calls (although it rings when listening to the incoming calling phone's speaker). I am also unable to send or receive SMS or MMS messages. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not the most technically savvy person, but I can answer your questions to the best of my ability and I am good at following directions. (I have about 5-6 phone root/ROMS under my belt and even 2-3 SPRINT to NET10 activations, but this one is just perplexing the crap out of me) . Could it be that the phone is not unlocked???? How do I check this??? Is there a way??? When I put in the NET10 SIM it never asked me for an unlock code so I am assuming that my friend unlocked it? I have also tried "Turn the phone ON and type 2945#801# If nothing happens, type 2945#802# or 2945#*803#" and no hidden menu appears asking for an unlock code.
You can unlock your Sprint phone for GSM but you can't activate it to Verizon or its MVNOs.
