Don't know what happened but yesterday I started getting the "Storage space is running out" error. Surprised because I just not long ago formatted my internal memory and started over. Anyways I check and my .thumbnails folder is almost 5 GB! Anybody have any ideas how it could've gotten that big so soon or even why it would be.

If you download lots of apps?? I would just try and go through to delete unnecessary ones. A lot of apps download pictures into your thumbnail folder. Advertising stuff. Try getting an ad blocker app its helping me with that issue.

Thanks. I just deleted everything in folder and rebooted. Not sure where it all came from. I've never been a person with a whole lot of apps. No more than 20-25 max depending on what ROM I'm running.

Did the thumnails folder grow back to size after the reboot or did it stay smaller?
thanks
Think it depends on if you keep the same files on your phone.

Yep! Just checked and it was almost 3GB again. I just deleted it but this time I checked to see what was in there and it looked like it took a small video of every movie/video file that I have stored on my phone & SD card. I guess it is for the Video player previews. Anyway to stop it from doing this and am I the only one having this problem?
It's supposed to do that.
I just delete the whole thumbnails folder. Dont seem to bother the phone or me.

Do you use Astro File Manager? Had the same problem, went away when I switched to Solid Explorer.
On August 29th at 02:14 my Note2 will become self-aware.
Ok guys, it has nothing to do with any of this...
Its all related to Google.
Do this, go to settings, accounts, gmail.
Uncheck the sync Picasa albums.
Backout.
Then go to applications, all.
Scroll down to gallery an clear the cache.
With anyone using hangouts an sending pics, it caches every single one on your phone.

Of course that only works if you use (and sync) Picasa and hangouts. So ymmv
My thumbnail issue was definitely file manager related, switching to a filemanager that allowed me to manage its thumbnail cache fixed it.

Just delete the whole thing you wont loose nothing important. Save you time and space. Try "Root cleaner" I had 3.56gb of space. Bought the pro version and did a quick clean. Now I have 5Gb of space! What the app does it deletes all unnecessary files.

Well I'm still having trouble figuring out why it does this. I don't use Astro File Explorer, Picassa or Hangouts. I can't see this as a normal process because if left unchecked you would never have any internal storage or at least half or more would be swallowed up by these useless video clips.

Can you offer some more info like what Rom you are running etc?
My first suggestion is to do a full wipe and re-install the ROM. Most "quirky" errors are resolved by doing a full wipe and re-install.
Format the internal sd card and flash back to stock with odin. I had the same thing happen to me when I used that app2sd script

Some zip archive files as well as any cwm backups you may have will not show up on the internal storage reports. To get a good picture of your actual storage usage and available disk space you need disk storage analyzer app - I have seen a couple people here recommend one from the play store, I don't remember which it was though.
You can search for one or maybe someone who knows of a good one will pop in and say.

I am so sorry. Phone is 100% stock AT&T 4.0.4 not rooted or anything. I'm sorry if this stuff seems elementary, but I came from a iPhone and I did mod and jailbreak and all that to it so I know my way around apple products but this phone has been a little bit of a learning curve. I just got sick of apples subpar hardware... So I moved to android.

Ok I can accept that. But what is really the free space? It shows 12.05gb of space. I know the OS and other system type stuff is taking the other 4gb that would total the 16 of the phone. But even the math of the doesn't add up in settings/storage.

The system partitions aren't represented in the storage manager. Reason being: you can't change it. It's only showing what you have available for apps and your own files.

First updated the app on my nexus 7 in which I don't have haxsync installed and was surprised to see my people app being full of Facebook contacts with pictures. Thought I could finally be rid of haxsync and then I updated my phone and well nope, no contact syncing. After further inspection I found something odd. On my nexus 7 I have a category in Facebook settings called "other settings" and underneath I have sync contact options. The "other settings" menu doesn't even appear on my nexus 4. Check it out

I dont have it either. Can you get your facebook.apk from data folder and share it? Maybe its different app for Nexus 7.
Sure but where are user apps stored? I can locate the system apps but not use apps with es file explorer.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
Have you root on that Nexus?
If yes go to system files (if you cant access using ES use root explorer).Go to data folder then app and there are all user apps.
Facebook sucks. Lags all the time opposed to the iOS version.
Maybe you have big mess in your phone or just need to clean facebook cache? My facebook is working perfectlly.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled, same issue, my wife's phone, same thing. I tried about every idea I could possibly think of
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
but did you cleared cache before uninstalling? Before you uninstall press clear data button in app info. Also after you uninstall if you have root go to /data/data and look for com.facebook.katana and delete it also if you were using FB messanger look for com.facebook.orca and also delete it.
Hope this will help you.
I just went through, wiped cache, wiped data, uninstalled, and reinstalled and same damn problem... Ugh

Lol nothing is wrong with it, contact sync just doesn't exist on my phone. The option to sync contacts is present on my tablet but not on my phone as seen in the first post which doesn't make sense since they are the same app
Edit : I just realized what happened. Someone came in and complained about the app lagging and somehow you and me got talking. Lol
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Same thing for me with Galaxy S+ not option for syncing contacts. The app is also otherwise really a piece of crap, very slow and consume really a lot of battery.
Just pulled the app from my Nexus 7, installed it, and still no sync option. I give up, this is something on their end. Just wish there was a way to talk to facebook support. They always ignore my emails
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

Yep, I've tried everything I can think of. Oh well, haxsync works good enough for now I guess. Just would be nice to not have 2 apps for Facebook purposes.

Yes. Then wait about a minute or two then home the home button and swipe the app closed. Open again and you will see a loading circle on the bottom. And wait. Once you get to the albums screen wait a minute more. If the gateway timed out error pops up then close abd wipe cache again. Keep repeating. Hope this helps
More proof. I got in twice but can only download once.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
i got it too finally. apparently they were fixing the overloads
Alright ... for those having issues ... this is how it worked for me on my note 2....
when it hangs
click back twice
hold the home button to bring up recent apps.
swipe MCHG
go into Settings / Applications
then search for the MCHG app
click on it and select clear cache and clear data
next click force close.
go back to the App and open it.
NOW its NOT guaranteed that it will open up on the first try so if it hangs again, force close (through settings /apps) again and load the app again. Do this a few times until the app opens. i tried this three times ... the first go around it opened on the 3rd time... 2nd time it opened on the 11th time. 3rd time it opened on the 6th
When it opens its gonna ask you what it asked when you first downloaded the app... Twitter or facebook.
Once you do this process it will count down 5,4,3,2,1 and open the app to a video and take you to the screen where the lyrics and videos are....
you'll see "Download" click that
once you get to this point BE PATIENT while everything loads including videos and album... if you need to do other stuff on you phone just click the HOME button and if you want to check on the app just hold HOME to bring up recent apps and select MCHG...
WHATEVER you do at this point DO NOT CLICK the BACK button ! this will make the app cycle back and hang for whatever reason... if this happens your gonna have to redo all the steps
not sure what the app does but i think it bypasses the usual loading and loads as if you are opening the app for the first time so you go through the process again and lets you in direct.
I dont advise that you delete the app. Not sure how the app works or how the count the million people... it might work as if we all have a place in line ... it might not not sure but i wouldn't delete the app ....
BTW Holy Grail is sick ... even if it features NSYNC haha
What a pain you all went through. It must all be fixed now (although there is no app update so I suspect their servers were jammed) because I opened the app and was able to download the album on the first attempt.

If there is one thing I've learned as someone who studies music, there are a lot of closed minded people who negatively generalize genres for the wrong reasons and fail to see the beauty behind the different types of music (music they don't typically listen to) as well as the creativity of many great artists...such as Jay Z.
Anyone have difficulties playing the tracks? My music player wouldn't find them, I put them on my computer and cleaned up the track names and then they started showing up...strange :silly:
This album is good finally some decent lyrics and beats from a artist who's not concerned about being a one hit wonder. When I listen to it brings me back to the 90s

When Gallery and other Android apps are looking for media files they will skip all folders with a .nomedia file.
So if you want to exclude a specific folder just place a .nomedia file inside it.
To exclude a Dropbox-folder, just locate it on your computer and make a new file called .nomedia or unzip the file attached to the message.
This will probably not remove the pictures from the gallery, but if you clear the gallery (and cloud sync) data and do the cloud sync setup again the folders will be excluded.
There are a couple of .nomedia apps in the play store as well who can exclude folders on your phone.
I had same problem when my Note II was synchronising my ex's photo's from Picasa... So i did this thing..

Now select the Account

You can follow Similar Procedure with Facebook, Dropbox and Many others.
After you've disabled synch
Go to Settings > Manage Applications > Select "All" Tab > Click on Gallery
Click on Clear Data, it will Clear Cache automatically
Hope it Helps.

That's the easiest solution if you don't want to sync at all. But since thread starter wrote HIDE the folders, I told him about .nomedia.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Yeah, i quit the sync of photos, but for example: in my htc one i can hide and show the folders just by selecting them in the menu, in this gallery i can't do that. I have some photos in my WhatsApp foldee that not all people can see, and it's tedious adding and erasing the .nomedia to that folder via es file explorer.

Is there anyway they can be recovered?

it does add to the system partition Size, im looking to push a few more of the .apks into preload. ive got some ComaDose root issues going on in the s4 thread.
