Hello im new in the Samsung world and want to make you a little question guys, how can i hide the dropbox and picasa folders in the gallery app? I know that by pressing menu there is an option to choose what folder to show but when i close the app and open it again, the folders are there again
Thanks in advance guys

The quickest fix would be to place an empty file called .nomedia in the folders you don't want to include.

you mean the file like that found in sdcard/android/data/ ?
---------- Post added at 12:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 PM ----------
trying it now....
First go into settings accounts, Google account and uncheck "sync picasa Web albums".
Then goto settings application manager, All, Gallery. Then clear cache, then clear data, then force stop.
Now open gallery and let refresh. All should be working now. :thumbup:
For drop box... Go into phone settings.. Cloud...disable the drop box photo and video upload

When Gallery and other Android apps are looking for media files they will skip all folders with a .nomedia file.
So if you want to exclude a specific folder just place a .nomedia file inside it.
To exclude a Dropbox-folder, just locate it on your computer and make a new file called .nomedia or unzip the file attached to the message.
This will probably not remove the pictures from the gallery, but if you clear the gallery (and cloud sync) data and do the cloud sync setup again the folders will be excluded.
There are a couple of .nomedia apps in the play store as well who can exclude folders on your phone.
I had same problem when my Note II was synchronising my ex's photo's from Picasa... So i did this thing..
Open Gallery > Options
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Click on Settings
Now You will see all Photo synched accounts there,
Now select the Account
Like i am Selecting Google
Disable Google Photos Synch and Also picasa web Albums.
You can follow Similar Procedure with Facebook, Dropbox and Many others.
After you've disabled synch
Go to Settings > Manage Applications > Select "All" Tab > Click on Gallery
Click on Clear Data, it will Clear Cache automatically
Hope it Helps.
Please Hit thanks button,

That's the easiest solution if you don't want to sync at all. But since thread starter wrote HIDE the folders, I told him about .nomedia.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Yeah, i quit the sync of photos, but for example: in my htc one i can hide and show the folders just by selecting them in the menu, in this gallery i can't do that. I have some photos in my WhatsApp foldee that not all people can see, and it's tedious adding and erasing the .nomedia to that folder via es file explorer.

This Deleted 540 of my photos ?
This removed my Picasa albums. However, it also removed 540 of my camera album photos. I realise I was given a warning message telling my this on my device but did not realise I would lose these too.
Is there anyway they can be recovered?
It would have been nice if you could have mentioned this may happen too.

If you're not going to use the sync feature and stock gallery is giving you problems, might as well try alternative like Quickpic which is really good...lightweight, fast, always update with thumbs, no sync, freq updates,

Even with automatic upload on that amount of data is weirdly high if a normal picture is about 1.5MB. The service also auto uploads all videos too btw.
Unless I'm confused, the Picasa sync is rolled under the "Sync Photos" option of your Google Account.

My GN doesent upload anything automatically if I have "Sync Google Photos" ticked on from google account settings and "Turn on Instant Upload" off from Google+. Both were on by default tho.
But it seems disabling either one disables the auto upload.

Curious to figure this one out as well. My gallery uses about 2GB per month and Google+ upload is turned off and photo sync is also turned off. Not sure why the hell it keeps using data and/or for what.

I'm not sure if anyone else has notices this or if it's just me. I have the deodexed OTA for 4.2. Just last night I noticed I can't find the Google drive app icon anywhere. It's not in the app drawer and it is ladle labeled as installed and I can access it by the way of the widget but that's it. I tried reinstalling it but no go. Anyone else having this issue?

Quite obvious it's the custom ROM based on the OTA, but I do enjoy the many ways sarcasm can be misused and from time to time I forget them. It is people like you who do a great service to the people of the internet.
But back to the topic, yes it shows up in the settings as a downloaded app but it does not show up in the system/app directory. But Google Play shows it's installed, I have the widget, and the app loads.

This might not have anything to do with this but Google might be diddling around with Drive itself. Just tonight I tried accessing (on my stock 4.2 GN) a shared company Drive spreadsheet that I just updated on Sunday and Drive was making it difficult for me (I.e., not recognizing the Google account and some other things). When I finally cleared it up (by logging off/signing in a few times), I was able to access and view the spreadsheet but not edit it (which what I need to do).
If it's any consolation, I wasn't able to edit it on the company iPad that's there for that purpose.
Again, it may be unrelated (and I'm still learning here) but in case that helps...
I added Google Drive under Web Storage in X-plore and it shows up and all my stuff is there.
I am running MMuzzy's 4.2 Verizon build.
Where did you get the widget?
Steve
The widget was just Google's widget that is added when you install the app. I remembered I had "add widgets to desktop" unchecked through Google Play so I selected it and reinstalled the app and it put an icon on my home screen, so that fixes my problem temporarily, as the icon is still missing from the app drawer and does not show the app in my system menu.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Don't you guys think that Drive should be a built-in app? It should be a natural part of the Android ecosystem. I don't think there are many people who don't use Drive, so it'd be more convenient to just make it a built-in app. This could bring in more support for it, too.

Try this and see if it works: copy the name of that thumbdata3, delete it and create a folder and rename that folder with the name of the thumbdata3 file you have copied. I think that will avoid the creation of another thumbdata3 file.
try the method suggested by pepoluan in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37426857#post37426857
or you can also do:
--> delete .thumbnails folder
--> create a blank file name it .thumbnails
--> set permission to to 055

I didn't see any thumbnails when I opened a gallery and loading of them was very slow. The same was about viewing pictures in gallery - there were no pictures at first and loading of each other photo was slow. But now it's really getting better. I think, it will be OK in a couple of days.

When you do the procedure that Pepoluan shared it deletes all of your existing thumbnails as well as the ever-increasing .thumbdata files. After you have followed his instructions and rebooted, your phone will have to recreate all of the thumbnails for all images on your phone (but not the huge thumbdata files) which is what causes the gallery to be a bit slow initially. Once it has done that your gallery should return to normal performance.
i also face the problem..

First updated the app on my nexus 7 in which I don't have haxsync installed and was surprised to see my people app being full of Facebook contacts with pictures. Thought I could finally be rid of haxsync and then I updated my phone and well nope, no contact syncing. After further inspection I found something odd. On my nexus 7 I have a category in Facebook settings called "other settings" and underneath I have sync contact options. The "other settings" menu doesn't even appear on my nexus 4. Check it out

Sure but where are user apps stored? I can locate the system apps but not use apps with es file explorer.

If yes go to system files (if you cant access using ES use root explorer).Go to data folder then app and there are all user apps.
Facebook sucks. Lags all the time opposed to the iOS version.
Maybe you have big mess in your phone or just need to clean facebook cache? My facebook is working perfectlly.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled, same issue, my wife's phone, same thing. I tried about every idea I could possibly think of

but did you cleared cache before uninstalling? Before you uninstall press clear data button in app info. Also after you uninstall if you have root go to /data/data and look for com.facebook.katana and delete it also if you were using FB messanger look for com.facebook.orca and also delete it.
Hope this will help you.

Lol nothing is wrong with it, contact sync just doesn't exist on my phone. The option to sync contacts is present on my tablet but not on my phone as seen in the first post which doesn't make sense since they are the same app
Edit : I just realized what happened. Someone came in and complained about the app lagging and somehow you and me got talking. Lol

Same thing for me with Galaxy S+ not option for syncing contacts. The app is also otherwise really a piece of crap, very slow and consume really a lot of battery.
Just pulled the app from my Nexus 7, installed it, and still no sync option. I give up, this is something on their end. Just wish there was a way to talk to facebook support. They always ignore my emails
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
did you try to activate facebook contact sync in settings-accounts first?
Yep, I've tried everything I can think of. Oh well, haxsync works good enough for now I guess. Just would be nice to not have 2 apps for Facebook purposes.
I keep thinking does the htc first have sync problems? I wonder what the GP who grabbed that phone thinks when they don't have any contact pictures in the dialer app.

Don't know what happened but yesterday I started getting the "Storage space is running out" error. Surprised because I just not long ago formatted my internal memory and started over. Anyways I check and my .thumbnails folder is almost 5 GB! Anybody have any ideas how it could've gotten that big so soon or even why it would be.

If you download lots of apps?? I would just try and go through to delete unnecessary ones. A lot of apps download pictures into your thumbnail folder. Advertising stuff. Try getting an ad blocker app its helping me with that issue.

Ok guys, it has nothing to do with any of this...
Its all related to Google.
Do this, go to settings, accounts, gmail.
Uncheck the sync Picasa albums.
Backout.
Then go to applications, all.
Scroll down to gallery an clear the cache.
With anyone using hangouts an sending pics, it caches every single one on your phone.

Of course that only works if you use (and sync) Picasa and hangouts. So ymmv
My thumbnail issue was definitely file manager related, switching to a filemanager that allowed me to manage its thumbnail cache fixed it.

Just delete the whole thing you wont loose nothing important. Save you time and space. Try "Root cleaner" I had 3.56gb of space. Bought the pro version and did a quick clean. Now I have 5Gb of space! What the app does it deletes all unnecessary files.

Well I'm still having trouble figuring out why it does this. I don't use Astro File Explorer, Picassa or Hangouts. I can't see this as a normal process because if left unchecked you would never have any internal storage or at least half or more would be swallowed up by these useless video clips.
