Hi,
I experienced a problem on my phone running cm 10 b 7 by ARCO.
The thumbnail folder in phone memory is growing until the phone gets out of memory.

Does anyone know how to avoid that? I'm tried to delete this file every day / reboot.

Ndysilon

Try this and see if it works: copy the name of that thumbdata3, delete it and create a folder and rename that folder with the name of the thumbdata3 file you have copied. I think that will avoid the creation of another thumbdata3 file.
try the method suggested by pepoluan in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37426857#post37426857
or you can also do:
--> delete .thumbnails folder
--> create a blank file name it .thumbnails
--> set permission to to 055

I did it. It's really works, this file didn't grow again, but then I had problems with thumbnails view in a gallery. Don't you?

I didn't see any thumbnails when I opened a gallery and loading of them was very slow. The same was about viewing pictures in gallery - there were no pictures at first and loading of each other photo was slow. But now it's really getting better. I think, it will be OK in a couple of days.
Thank you, H.

Hello guys this is a problem on my friends galaxy ace too, her photos and musics are on her external sd, the phone is running latest stock rom (unrooted) and only the fb messenger app was installed and phone shows no storage and no message storage.....what should I do? it shows internal storage free space 4,5mb ...... can I wipe data? after it will boot up? (I already wiped cache but it only gives me 1mb free storage)
I ask here cuz I have SGW and I know you guys.
Thanks

When you do the procedure that Pepoluan shared it deletes all of your existing thumbnails as well as the ever-increasing .thumbdata files. After you have followed his instructions and rebooted, your phone will have to recreate all of the thumbnails for all images on your phone (but not the huge thumbdata files) which is what causes the gallery to be a bit slow initially. Once it has done that your gallery should return to normal performance.
i also face the problem..

He's trying to transfer SMS, not Contacts.
Just use the Backup and Restore app that was linked at the top and copy the XML file to the Nexus and restore from it. It's a single file and not very large (my 12k sms were like 2MB). The app works great, btw.

Did a restore using SMS Backup & Restore earlier today. It worked on my GN but the restore took an extremely long time compared to gingerbread. On ICS it restores at a rate of about 5-10 sms per second versus gingerbread where it restore at about 20-30 per second at least.

Can you offer some more info like what Rom you are running etc?
My first suggestion is to do a full wipe and re-install the ROM. Most "quirky" errors are resolved by doing a full wipe and re-install.
Format the internal sd card and flash back to stock with odin. I had the same thing happen to me when I used that app2sd script

Some zip archive files as well as any cwm backups you may have will not show up on the internal storage reports. To get a good picture of your actual storage usage and available disk space you need disk storage analyzer app - I have seen a couple people here recommend one from the play store, I don't remember which it was though.
You can search for one or maybe someone who knows of a good one will pop in and say.

I am so sorry. Phone is 100% stock AT&T 4.0.4 not rooted or anything. I'm sorry if this stuff seems elementary, but I came from a iPhone and I did mod and jailbreak and all that to it so I know my way around apple products but this phone has been a little bit of a learning curve. I just got sick of apples subpar hardware... So I moved to android.

Ok I can accept that. But what is really the free space? It shows 12.05gb of space. I know the OS and other system type stuff is taking the other 4gb that would total the 16 of the phone. But even the math of the doesn't add up in settings/storage.

The system partitions aren't represented in the storage manager. Reason being: you can't change it. It's only showing what you have available for apps and your own files.
No ROM I've seen will show the "full" storage.

If you download lots of apps?? I would just try and go through to delete unnecessary ones. A lot of apps download pictures into your thumbnail folder. Advertising stuff. Try getting an ad blocker app its helping me with that issue.

Yep! Just checked and it was almost 3GB again. I just deleted it but this time I checked to see what was in there and it looked like it took a small video of every movie/video file that I have stored on my phone & SD card. I guess it is for the Video player previews. Anyway to stop it from doing this and am I the only one having this problem?

Ok guys, it has nothing to do with any of this...
Its all related to Google.
Do this, go to settings, accounts, gmail.
Uncheck the sync Picasa albums.
Backout.
Then go to applications, all.
Scroll down to gallery an clear the cache.
With anyone using hangouts an sending pics, it caches every single one on your phone.

Of course that only works if you use (and sync) Picasa and hangouts. So ymmv
My thumbnail issue was definitely file manager related, switching to a filemanager that allowed me to manage its thumbnail cache fixed it.
On August 29th at 02:14 my Note2 will become self-aware.
Just delete the whole thing you wont loose nothing important. Save you time and space. Try "Root cleaner" I had 3.56gb of space. Bought the pro version and did a quick clean. Now I have 5Gb of space! What the app does it deletes all unnecessary files.

Well I'm still having trouble figuring out why it does this. I don't use Astro File Explorer, Picassa or Hangouts. I can't see this as a normal process because if left unchecked you would never have any internal storage or at least half or more would be swallowed up by these useless video clips.
