My original Xperia ZL (C6505 Black) charged correctly to 100%. My 1st replacement (C6506 White) would reach 92% and indicate that it was fully charged (orange light turns green). After a week, it would slowly but painfully reach 100% but still assumed 92% was fully charged by switching from orange to green. I decided to get it replaced one last time and what do you know, the same thing happens as well.
The 1st replacement was initially charged with the wall charger. The latest replacement was initially charged via my Macbook to allow it to slowly charge.
Thoughts????
Try to reset battery stats with the yellow button behind the back cover. Press it for 5 seconds I think.
The light turns to green when charging reaches to 90% but it doesnot say its fully charged...actually there is no indication about fully charged just 100% status bar..no message..prevoiusly in ics sony had that charging status on lockscreen now they removed in jelly bean.
And when I remove charger within 1 minute it dropes to 99%...sony should fix this...n status led keeps on green forever... untill u remove the uSb

Yeap exactly after the 253 firmware update this is what happens. It drops to 99 after a min or so.... But then it lasts enough..

from Sony Xperia ZL manual:
! The battery will start to discharge a little after it is fully charged and then charges again after a
certain time when the charger is connected. This is to extend battery life and may result in the
charge status showing a level below 100 percent.
This is a problem with the 253 update..so wait for an update fix..meanwhile..download the battery doctor App from playstore..it'll guide you how to charge battery in a better way..and ensure a healthy battery,I tested it and it does work quite nicely

Hey there,
I tried to calibrate my battery the last few days...
There where so different descriptions on how to do it right.
But well at some point they all said to charge the phone turned of ( well it automaticaly jumps into recovery, right?).
And it was said charge it till the led goes green.
But I think it never happens in my case.
In one case I fully chagred my phone powered on and then turned it off, plugged it in again. The red/orange led staied there even after 3 hours...
The other day I fully discharged the phone and wanted to charge it in recovery mode. So I plugged it in, the red/orange led began to flash, recovery booted and I went to bed. About 10 hours late I woke and the led was still flashing as before.
I had no patience and turned it on. With the system running it tells me, that its at 100%.
Turning it off again unplug and replug it will show the red/orange led again but not flashing.
Its a european desire z (germany)
On Virtuous 0.9
With clockwork 2.something
Any ideas? Should I have been even more patient to see the green light in recovery? How long could it take?
Thanks,
- coni

It seems the question of how to charge the battery pops up at least once a week now, with the same misconceptions. There is no such thing as calibrating the battery. All you are doing is calibrating the battery meter (just a volt meter) on the phone. Li ion batteries cannot (and should not) be calibrated or conditioned. The best way to calibrate the meter is to charge the phone to 100%, drain to about 20%, repeat a couple times. You should not discharge the battery below 20%. I cover it a little more in depth on the following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11026655&postcount=7
I don't see any advantage to charging the phone while its off (except that it will charge faster, of course). I always charge mine while its on (with screen off).
I don't know why your green light is not coming on. Mine comes on after the phone has been charging for about 2 hours or less. But I am on the stock ROM, so its possibly something to do with the ROM, so you might have some better response by searching or asking in the Virtuous thread.
Yeah I know that you just calibrate the voltage meter but its just easier to say battery calibration.
Well maye the misconceptions occur because there are plenty of different answers spread and its easy to become confused. I just avereged over these methods and the consensus was to change fully while turned off.
The only way I could think of loading in recovery is better, is that the software prevents loading when it thinks battery is full (but in fact it is not), but I relly dont know.
And you say even after deleting battery stats there is no need for discharging till shutdown (to show the limits or anything)? To reset on full battery is enought?
Thanks,

does anybody know how to delete battery statistics of the Desire Z ?
I want to calibrate battery and delete old stats.
Thanks & Greets
Well, your problem first if that you said you had recovery 2.x and that if you turned it off it automatically jumps to recovery.. you seem to have the first recovery that the power off feature wasnt quite working well.. upgrade to a 3.x then like the above user said but drain the battery until it reaches %15.. thats when the Connect To A Charger popup shows up.. and charge to 100% and do couple cycles of these..

I am bit confused with the battery charging !! Tried to search on xda also. I am using mildwild rom, which is based on CM7.1. The led of my phone goes green as soon as it is 90% charged and stay green even after 100%. I guess that is normal with all Desires. But recently I used and application called "easy battery saver". I noticed that it has 3 charging modes as follows:
1.) Fast charge
2.) Continuous Charge
3.) Trickle Charge
As soon as battery is charged 100%, the mode changes from fast to continuous mode, after 15-30 minutes mode changes to trickle charge. If I use follow this app I get more battery life !!
But question is why does HTC Desire led glow green when the phone is not full charged ??

The desire when it was completely stock, used to charge to 100%. When it was still plugged in for 2 hours at 100%, it would rapidly depelete the battery back down to 90% and start charging back up to 100%. The light would remain green during this process. You could find if unplugging it in the morning during this cycle, that you only had 90% battery (very annoying).
Anyway, its a legacy in AOSP Roms that they go green at 90%. Its sort of a bug that many people cant be bothered with. There is a fix for it. MildWild implemented it I believe.

On my HTC desire ( with stock rom) the led gets green when charging current get lower than 80mA. The charge continue for one hour, then a discharge current of around 120mA takes place until the charge is 99%. Then a new charging cycle starts : this is what generally named as ''Trikle charge''
I never noticed that the trickle charge improve my battery life.

They may have changed things. When the desire first came out when I got it, it didn't trickle. That's what the rapid deplete was used instead. You could clearly see it in system panel.
Maybe enough people moaned and they addressed this in a software update. But clearly the underlying led issue is still there

hello, just got my phone 10 days ago and realize that the battery level after charging will not go up more than 95% what do I do to fix this !?
I can see from the battery monitor that there's a horizontal line starting at 95% intercept on the vertical axis.
The phone indicate a green button that it is fully charged but clearly it's not.
some other times the charging stops at 96 or 94 % but always over 90...%(for the time being) should i worry...? maybe a reset power off+ volume up,3vibr can help?
Maybe it is an error in software that report battery.
Let the battery be fully drained or reach zero % then let it fully charge.

Well,I have with me my Xperia ion...was watching YouTube while it's charging since the battery almost dead (around 2-1% )...then a message 'Android is shutting down' indicating that my phone battery is dead and I was like "Arghh fine I'll wait for it to charge"...then it just red LED with dark screen when I re-connecting the charger....usually,the Sony word will load up (even the battery is completely dead)....so,is my phone really dead,or it just need some time to wait?

Hold volume up and power button together until it vibrates 3 times. That should shut it down fully. Then let it charge

Having let my own battery die many times, I have come to believe that when a battery goes completly dead, it has to go through a low level hardware charging.
I think that when it has only the red led on it is in some form of low current or trickle charge, not a smart charge like if kernel boots.
Once the battery has received enough low level charge, then the phone will boot the kernel and show charging icon of offline smart charging.
It seems like a safety so if phone is broken it won't explode battery when left plugged in with out booting into kernel offline charging.

Battery discharging while on charger.
The past 2 nights I've had the Acro S on charge via the wall charger through the USB plug (not in the cradle - due to a protective case) and during the night I noticed the phone charge with the Red LED showing and then it goes Green showing it above 90% - then later on in the night/early morning I've noticed the green light has gone out and checked the time and noticed that the battery has discharged to 80%
Looking at the battery stats it shows the phone had reached full capacity and then been discharging for a number of hours - the odd thing here is that the plug was still firmly in the phone and plugged into the wall with no chance of it being bumped - the other odd thing is that the charging lightening bolt was also still showing but the percentage was going down as I was trouble shooting all this.
Eventually I unplugged the phone a couple of times and the phone started charging again and reached 100% and was still like this when I picked it up to use it for the day.
This has occurred 2 nights in a row.
The manual says that the phone will reach full capacity while on the charger and will also self discharge and recharge again by itself but I think a 20% drop is a bit more that what would be considered normal especially when you want the phone fully charged in the morning.
If anyone knows what is going on here or has experienced this kind of behavior I'd be keen to know about it.

Nobody else has this problem yet I see.......
Its been a few days and this morning I've got the following
0650 hrs - battery showing discharge after being on the charger all night - red charging LED on and screen showing lightening bold charging symbol but battery still discharging and sitting at 81%
0701 hrs - phone still on charge, battery now 79%
0741 hrs - phone still on charger, battery now 77% - I cant believe that this is part of the battery cycling on charge
I'll contact Sony today and see if the battery is faulty - phone is only 2 weeks old.

Ok - so yesterday I went to the Sony support office in Khyber Pass New Zealand and the tech there said they dont support Acro S because its not been supplied by a NZ Sony distributor. So I then went to the place I bought it and they didnt want to look at the phone because its Rooted - I didn't tell them the boot loader is also unlocked - but they gave me an adapter so I could use the official Sony charger that I got with the phone (until now I've been using my old Xperia Neo charger) in the hope that the lower voltage rating might change things (they'd had acro Z which didn't charge on the Neo type charger they supplied).
So I got home and changed the power adapter over to the one that came with the phone using the adapter plug.
Last night I put the phone on charge and woke this morning to see that it had charged fully again and then since around 0400 it had discharged to 83%. I unplugged the phone and plugged it in again and it did not start charging - I did this a number of times and it didnt start charging but it did show that it was charging with the red LED and the lightening bolt on the battery and everywhere else it showed charge but the graph kept going down and the percentage kept dropping.
I had to reboot the phone for the battery to start charging.
I decided that I would re-lock the boot loader and repair the phone via Sony Update
Relock thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863179
Sony Update
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
On page 3 of the relock thread I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44093334&postcount=28 and waiting a reply from him to see if his issues were similar.
I've - re-locked and used Sony Update so now I'm back to square one I hope - I'm still going to root but I'm not going to bother unlocking the boot loader because I didn't find a kernel that could read external hard drives.
I'll update this if the phone continues to have a faulty charge...........
