Well,I have with me my Xperia ion...was watching YouTube while it's charging since the battery almost dead (around 2-1% )...then a message 'Android is shutting down' indicating that my phone battery is dead and I was like "Arghh fine I'll wait for it to charge"...then it just red LED with dark screen when I re-connecting the charger....usually,the Sony word will load up (even the battery is completely dead)....so,is my phone really dead,or it just need some time to wait?

Hold volume up and power button together until it vibrates 3 times. That should shut it down fully. Then let it charge

Having let my own battery die many times, I have come to believe that when a battery goes completly dead, it has to go through a low level hardware charging.
I think that when it has only the red led on it is in some form of low current or trickle charge, not a smart charge like if kernel boots.
Once the battery has received enough low level charge, then the phone will boot the kernel and show charging icon of offline smart charging.
It seems like a safety so if phone is broken it won't explode battery when left plugged in with out booting into kernel offline charging.

After a long time no use, I took my a100 out and charge it, the red led at the power button lighted up but it never turn blue even 10 hours later. I powered it on and noticed the battery level was always 0%, everything else is ok though. If i unplug the charger, my tablet turn off immediately. Then I disassemble it, take the battery out and charger it directly about 10 minutes, then i assemble and turn my tablet on, the battery now is 35% but the problem still the same, it can't be charged, the red led still light though. Is there any body know what the problem is and how to fix it, help me please. thanks in advance.
Sorry for my bad english
Not an answer to you Q but I have to say It's always nice not having a removable battery ......can't we just get a battery door and some AA duracells for old times sake

Letting a battery fully discharge is about the worst thing you can do, mostly due to the fact that if the battery voltage drops to low it shuts down to prevent cell damage. Basically the battery is telling the Acer it can't be charged because its damaged.
Short answer - new battery time. If you know someone else with one swap and test.

Does the phone have an ability to shut off charging once the battery reaches full capacity (eg. my old HTC Touch Pro 2 had it where once the battery hit 100% charged, the AC would no longer provide power to the battery and the phone would run off AC entirely instead [but the battery would still very slowly lose a charge]) or will it continually keep providing power to the battery then to the phone (which essentially charges the battery continuously, reducing its life)?
In other words, does it charge like this:
1. AC --> battery --> phone
2. AC --> battery (when it hits 100%) --> AC --> phone
3. AC --> battery (when it hits 100%) --> battery (powering phone)
I ask because I know if you're constantly keeping a rechargeable device plugged in, it will reduce the life of the device. I'm not sure if this device can recognize that the battery is full (once the LED goes green from amber) and disable battery recharging.
Yeah it cuts off the power supply once 100% charged, and the phone then runs completely on ac.
But it still does reduce the battery life of the phone.

Thanks! What do you recommend? Removing the phone entirely from AC once I hit the green LED/100%?
yes.. remove immediately or battery would get swollen.. happend on my dads note. used to keep on for charge overnight :banghead:

Battery would get swollen? Do you mean hot because of the constant overcharge?

basic science, heat expands. so your battery will swell...

NO. Its not because of this that the battery gets swollen.

90%, because sometimes the battery indicator shows wrong values.
Oh and NEVER leave tour phone charging overnight.

Hi all.
My GNexus's battery charging but the battery stays at %98 and not charging. I've tried another charger and plug but situation the same :/
But I'm trying charging on pc via USB cable, In this way charging smoothly (%100)
What can i do?
Its normal.

If this is a normal why the other phone (other gnexus) charging fully every time?
You could shut off your phone, and load it without android running, after 3h it should be full
And then try and boot up
Happens to me from time to time I noticed if I pull out the charger and put it back in (that's what she said) it will continue to charge the rest of the way

Could be your battery limit on your settings ,if you have trickstermod see if your battery limit is 98 (ps .its suppose to make your battery last longer in the long run )
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Even if your phone shows 100% it'll go back to 98-97 in a few seconds, it's how the battery is made, theres some technical info. about how/why it's like that but its simply how it's meant to be charged and is perfectly normal =]
I have a few other devices who charge to 100% and stay at 100 for like 5-6 minutes when used. I hate when I wake up and see my phone say "Charged - 98%"
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
This seems to be the way the Gnex calculates it's battery. I can't ever get 100% unless I practically force it too with unplugging it and plugging it backin. In ICS roms on my XPlay i could wake my phone 4 hours after unplugging it and it would say 100% (after little to no use of course). I still got similar real use battery life to my Gnex though.
The battery percentage is a calculation, not a physical amount of juice your battery has.

My original Xperia ZL (C6505 Black) charged correctly to 100%. My 1st replacement (C6506 White) would reach 92% and indicate that it was fully charged (orange light turns green). After a week, it would slowly but painfully reach 100% but still assumed 92% was fully charged by switching from orange to green. I decided to get it replaced one last time and what do you know, the same thing happens as well.
The 1st replacement was initially charged with the wall charger. The latest replacement was initially charged via my Macbook to allow it to slowly charge.
Thoughts????
Try to reset battery stats with the yellow button behind the back cover. Press it for 5 seconds I think.
The light turns to green when charging reaches to 90% but it doesnot say its fully charged...actually there is no indication about fully charged just 100% status bar..no message..prevoiusly in ics sony had that charging status on lockscreen now they removed in jelly bean.
And when I remove charger within 1 minute it dropes to 99%...sony should fix this...n status led keeps on green forever... untill u remove the uSb

Yeap exactly after the 253 firmware update this is what happens. It drops to 99 after a min or so.... But then it lasts enough..

from Sony Xperia ZL manual:
! The battery will start to discharge a little after it is fully charged and then charges again after a
certain time when the charger is connected. This is to extend battery life and may result in the
charge status showing a level below 100 percent.
This is a problem with the 253 update..so wait for an update fix..meanwhile..download the battery doctor App from playstore..it'll guide you how to charge battery in a better way..and ensure a healthy battery,I tested it and it does work quite nicely

under Battery Charging Cycles is following information:
On a working phone there are different stages of a battery's charging cycle. The stages are listed in order they happen. The cycle goes from a completely dead battery through a phone running on battery and back to a completely dead battery.
Dead battery. No response from the power button, no screen and no led.
Connect to charger
low battery level charging mode. This is when just the RED led is on and no screen. At this stage the battery's charge is to low to turn the phone on, but it is charging.
Kernel controlled off-line charging mode. This is when the battery has charged enough from step (3) and boots the kernel to charge the battery. The phone is off, but could be turned on using the power button. A quick press of the power button will show this battery icon. Icon will fill with charge.
The kernel also controls charging when the phone is on.
Battery is fully charged.
Unplug the phone and turn on.
Battery is dead from normal use.
Repeat stages starting at (1)
