Battery stays at 98% - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi all.
My GNexus's battery charging but the battery stays at %98 and not charging. I've tried another charger and plug but situation the same :/
But I'm trying charging on pc via USB cable, In this way charging smoothly (%100)
What can i do?

Its normal.

If this is a normal why the other phone (other gnexus) charging fully every time?

You could shut off your phone, and load it without android running, after 3h it should be full
And then try and boot up

Happens to me from time to time I noticed if I pull out the charger and put it back in (that's what she said) it will continue to charge the rest of the way

Could be your battery limit on your settings ,if you have trickstermod see if your battery limit is 98 (ps .its suppose to make your battery last longer in the long run )

Even if your phone shows 100% it'll go back to 98-97 in a few seconds, it's how the battery is made, theres some technical info. about how/why it's like that but its simply how it's meant to be charged and is perfectly normal =]

I have a few other devices who charge to 100% and stay at 100 for like 5-6 minutes when used. I hate when I wake up and see my phone say "Charged - 98%"
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

This seems to be the way the Gnex calculates it's battery. I can't ever get 100% unless I practically force it too with unplugging it and plugging it backin. In ICS roms on my XPlay i could wake my phone 4 hours after unplugging it and it would say 100% (after little to no use of course). I still got similar real use battery life to my Gnex though.
The battery percentage is a calculation, not a physical amount of juice your battery has.

My GN battery could only charge up to99%?

Hi, after three times full cycle charge(one through the socket on the wall and two via usb). I found my galaxy nexus battery could only be charged up to 99%, even there is a "complete" showed on the locked screen.
So do i need to reset my phone xia bootloader or anybody know how to solve that? Many thanks!!!!!!

Have you guys tried to turn off your phone and then let it charge once it is full turn it back on? I noticied that was the only way
I was about to post here to ask about this, as I've noticed it as well. Good to hear it's normal, but I'm curious how it protects the battery.
This is standard charging behaviour and happens on the Nexus S too (which is currently my phone). There were similar questions on the Nexus S general forum about this behaviour too.
It is for increasing battery life. You should not charge it to maximum or discharge it completely. It's a well known fact about Li-Ion batteries...

Thanks mate~ I am new on Android, so just curious about this....
I have this issue too. I have noticed that if I unplug it and plug it back in, it will charge to 100%. I had assumed it was because I was using the Samsung 700ma charger. Guess not.
I have noticed my Galaxy Tab 7 does the same thing, but it will show 100% until I unplug it then it will go down immediately to a lower level, I plug it back in and let charge and it goes to 100%.
I have guessed that what is happening is that once it charges to 100%, it stops charging and starts using battery, thus the decrease. I have not watched it to try to catch it as soon at it done charging to see if this is the case as I always charge overnight.
I would guess that if I let it get low enough, it would start charging again. I know my laptop will not charge the battery unless it is 90% or less to prevent top offs that shorten battery life.

the way you used is exactly what my friend told me to do. He has the same issue, and if he unplug the charger when a 'complete' showed on the locked screen and replug it, you could get a 100%!!
Same problem here but I dont care.
I had this problem. My GN would only charge to 98% so I left it on charge for nearly 8 hours and it eventually got to 100% I carried out a battery calibration using this app from the market and its been perfect ever since I've even noticed an increase in battery life

Your not supposed to do this. Charging to 100% and/or letting it drop to 0% decreases battery life in the long run. This applies to all LI-ION batteries, in your laptop, or anything else.
You people that complain about 96-99% just need to get over it. It's like that for a reason. Don't go chasing mods the charge it to 100%, or ways to trick it into saying 100%, just accept that when it says charged it is.
edit: Sorry if I come off as an 8==D. Just tired of seeing posts like this (the nexus S does the same thing. Its by design for a reason.)
My galaxy nexus charges all the way to 100%. But when i leave it charging overnight, when i wake up its on 97%. I think its a built in safety feature to prevent the phone from charging when left plugged in for an extended period.

Phone charging really slow??

So my s2 has been charging really slow, like today it took like 5 hours to fully charge, and when connected to charger if I'm using it it wont charge very well, like the battery will stay at lets say 20% when im using it and charging it, it might even go down more. it used to charge pretty well even if I was on it. Cuz this be the charger, or is my battery messed up?? Im using the charger that came with the phone.
Sent from Flip's SGS2
Are you charging through a usb port on your computer or ac? If it is with usb port then yes it will charge at a much slower rate. Also if you have a lot of apps running or backround data going it will also cause your charging to slow down some. I would say through usb without any apps open and backround data stopped It would take a few hours to charge say from 20%. Through AC in the same condition probly 1.5 hours. Try to reboot your phone and then plug it in to charge to see if that doesnt speed it up any. If it does then you know you have backround data moving at a fast rate and that would be your reason to slow the charge down.
Yeah I'm charging with the wall charger, not thru usb

You could try calibrating the battery, maybe. To do that, turn the phone off. Charge to full (make sure it's full, by taking it off of the charger and putting it back on...the indicator should read 100% almost immediately when reattached to power).
When the battery is full, with the phone still turned off, remove the battery for about 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, reinsert battery and restart phone.
Battery will be calibrated. This may not resolve the problem of a slow charge, but will clear 'battery memory' which may have been preventing it from charging completely (and, I suspect, may have inhibited charging).
Good luck!
I was using an aftermarket wall charger and had similar results. Switched to the USB/AC converter that came with the phone and all was well.

Actually, one doesn't need an app to calibrate the battery. If you follow the instructions above, the app is unnecessary. And the phone mustn't be rooted

Hey elflip88, have you found the issue yet?
I have the same problem on my HTC Amaze 4G. It's charging 1% every 3 minutes (adds up to 5 hours)
I'm also using the wall charger...oh damn, I'm starting to think I have a faulty device / battery...
yelp!
For the record Samsung devices are known to be slow at charging so with that considered.... You still shouldn't be at 5 hrs. I would find a battery stats app charge your battery over night and check the chart to see exactly how long it takes to go from 0 - 100. Make sure your batter status is good. Also check the voltage coming into your phone from your charger. There are plenty of battery stat apps in the market that will do this sort of thing. Of course make sure your battery doesn't have water damage of course too lol.

I've had the same problem with mine. But, I can get 1.5 days without charging and moderate usage. Charge it up, drain it, charge it back up then wipe your battery stats in recovery.
This may help if you're using an aftermarket wall charger
If you guys are having issues with slow charging using an aftermarket wall charger, it could be that the phone is charging in a USB state rather than an AC charging state. QuickCharge could alleviate your issues. The cable is inserted between the wall charger and the USB cable that goes to your phone. You can find the product on Amazon. It's the 2nd of 3rd item from the top when you search 'QuickCharge'.
I find that when I fully drain my battery and charge it, it's really slow. Once the phone has enough battery to stay on, I unplugged it and replugged it and it charges normal again.

It's your wifi and your apps using wifi. Turn wifi off while charging. I used to charge 4 hours + on my S2. Reduced to 2 and some change when I turn off wifi.
Also, I struggle to make it through a working day with wifi on. Turn wifi off and I can do 4 days no problem.

+1 to Nibrs' comment. I would shutdown the phone completely, let it take a full charge WITHOUT the android OS running, unplug the charger, remove the battery for a few minutes then boot the phone back up. After it's been up and running and settled in, plug the charger back in once again. It could take 30-45 minutes to finish this last trickle charge.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Mine will be stuck on 99% for a long time also but mine will eventually say 100%. It has to do with how the battery is charged. Once it gets to a certain point it only does a slow trickle charge to maintain the battery level. So for the 99% part it's supposed to do that but you shouldn't have those heat issues. Did you flash a new ROM recently by chance?

You're not actually fully charged when you unplug it. It would be in the 90% area because it doesn't constantly charge the battery. It stops once it gets to a certain point and then will start charging again once the battery hits a certain minimum level.

How many cycles have you gone since flashing? I have been on blu kuban for over a month now. I update the instant I see an update. Most times it takes around 3 full battery cycles before I see decent life. This last update seemed to take longer than usual to see normal battery behavior. First I would try draining battery to 5%, run battery calibration script in the updater then fully charge and calibrate again. If it continues I would recommend the standard restore to stock and reinstall.

[Q] This is not the usual "battery thread"

I understand this is a sensitive subject to bring up, as there are 10 battery threads popping up each day.
But I think I have an unusual battery problem...
My Galaxy Nexus eats pretty much the same amount of juice whether it's powered on or completely powered off, and I get about 8h out of my batteries.
I have 3 batteries, and all of them give me about the same battery time.
I just did a short test:
1. Charge battery in cradle to full.
2. Put the fully charged battery into the phone.
3. Power on phone, and check battery - 99%
4. Power off.
5. Power on the phone 30 min later, and the battery is down to 91%
Can anyone out there give me a hint as to what can possibly drain my battery when the phone is powered off?

your batterstats can be off a little, or your 3 batteries are bad.

If your phone is draining a significant amount of battery over a matter of several hours....say...20-30% or more during an eight hour period of being turned off, then something is wrong with your phone or batteries (less likely with all three).
I suppose it's possible that all 3 batteries are bad, but I find it unlikely as I didn't buy them at the same time.
I have tried to reset the battery stats from the CWM recovery menu, but I read earlier today that resetting the battery stats does not influence battery time.
8h, then the phone shuts off.
Or leaving the phone powered off for about the same time, I can't power it on as the battery is completely drained.
Once your battery is fully charged it will stop charging the phone but continue to display that it's "charged" until it drops below 90%.
After you restart the phone it will display the current charge.

Fyi that was only true on previous nexus like the nexus one. The gnex driver does not work this way anymore.

All these points to hardware issue.

It is weird that the batteries drain when the phone is off.
Heck, even with only display off you should get even longer battery life.
But.... eight hours of battery life per day for the Gnex sounds "Normal" and "Right" to me!
If all three batteries are the same, than you should check the next logical step. Bigger Batteries.
Here is one from Amazon...
"Seidio BACY38SSGNLN-BK Innocell 3800mAh Super Extended Life Battery"
Hardware issue with the phone.
There is no way you should be draining a charged cell in 8 hours.
..this might be silly...but have you tried charging the batteries in the phone itself? (sounds like you charge them externally only)
defective hardware
I agree that it is probably defective hardware.
When a device is powered off, the battery should drain very slowly.
It might still be helpful if we could see a picture of your battery stats.
Here is mine, and you can see my screen is taking most of the battery life.
Which is because I have it set for max brightness.

what ROM and setups are you using ?? some of the 4.2.2 roms charge really slow and if you are not using the charger that came with the phone than it would take longer

its not recommended using other chargers it sounds like you are not getting enough juice from that charger/wire..... but if you are make sure your battery never dies because the more it dies the more strain you are putting on that battery also you will be better off using the usb wire and a computer to charge are you familiar with FAST CHARGE ??? i would suggest getting another charger
Edit: i have a nexus 7 and i had your problem before i have an after market 10 foot usb wire to charge my phone but when you are using it or there is an app that is draining it it will not charge because there is not enough power coming from the wire but if i use my factory charger for the nexus all is good on low battery and it charges so yeah ... just an fyi
also ive noticed that with some kernels that the battery charges faster
but just play around with different roms or just get a new stock charger
If u are using AOCP with stock kernel, idk why but it has ridiculous slow charge. Install a different kernel and you should be fine
