Hi Guys,
I have been lurking around these forums for a while now and finally decided to post.
I need some help with an issue with my wife's unrooted GSM Nexus. She happened to drop her phone cracking the front glass but thankfully still functional otherwise, so i decided to replace only the glass myself using one of the youtube guides out there.
I was able to successfully replace the glass but since then the phone has gone into a bootloop at the Nexus Logo. I even tried re-installing the motherboard but no luck. Not sure what i did wrong as i did not tamper with the other components in anyway (i did not initially dismantle the mobo parts to replace the glass as the glass was accessible after removing the back cover).
I am getting nowhere with my research on this so i ask you guys for help. First priority is to get my stuff backed up off the phone (dumb of me not to do it in the first place i know) and Secondly to see if i can get it running again.
I am otherwise a complete noob when it comes to messing with the software part of it so please forgive me if i dont follow
Thanks

Sorry, I know it's not the right forum really.
But I want software AND parts, but they are both part of the same problem so I thought here was a good bet.
If the mods want to move, please do, edit if needed.....
I dropped my phone, big whoops.
The touch part is fine, and the LCD is fine, but the glass infront of the LCD has 6 big cracks.
It works fine, no crystal leaks or dead zones.
BUT, if the glass moves and cracks the lcd film I'm stuffed.
I've repleaced the screen in an Ipod, which was easy and cost me £10
I've searched for a replacement, but could only find a bulk deistributor.
Anyone done this?
or recomend a cheap supplier in the UK?
The second part is.
I do have insurance on the phone, but I've spent ages getting it setup just the way I like it.
I'd rather fix it TBH.
BUT, if I have to send it back / get a new one.
Is there a really good and reliable bit of software than will take all my settings / apps / prefferences / files and put them exactly the same on a new phone.
I realy don't want to spend 3 days, flashing the rom and installing apps.
Thanks for any help.

For the screen repair/replacements, there's several threads about that subject and where to get parts, over in the Accessories Forum.
For the backup, the two best apps for doing a full system restore on your phone are SPB Backup, and Sprite Backup. Both are paid 3rd-party apps, widely used by many here at xda, and both have the ability to backup to a completely new device. Sprite has a 10-day trial version, details here
EDIT: I just remembered I had a copy of a step-by-step teardown guide for the Rhodium, I've attached it now below...might be helpful in your screen replacement process.
If you do have to send your device back and get another one, the easiest way I know of to get it back to the way you like it is to use Sprite Backup.
It came free with my HTC Touch several years ago
If your afraid of damaging the screen any more, use MyMobiler (google it)
to control your phone via activesync/windowsmobiledevicecentre
Install Sprite backup and make a backup of your phone, then copy the backup to your pc.
When you get a replacement phone, flash the ROM you were using onto it and then copy the you made with Sprite Backup back to the device and run it.
and hey presto, phone is restored
(ive attached a cab of sprite backup for you)
Thanks for the links.
I think I've got a copy of sprite that came with my MDA compact3
And in typical style, 1/2 an hour after my post I found a screen on ebay....
Thanks for the build/dis-assemble instructions.
I'll give it a go, and if I stuff it up I'll drive over it with my car.......
Any interest in a log of the repair?
once a gain guys, you've helped me out loads.
+ rep to the site and users.
When I got the G2 brand new, I didn't notice any dust under the screen, but after around 2-3 weeks of light use in normal conditions (if slightly cold) I see dust under the top left of my screen.
It's definitely noticeable against a white background and now I'm thinking of trying to exchange it. I'd have to flash back to the stock ROM etc. and probably not have my phone for a couple weeks again.
Maybe I'll wait till christmas and go to the store and try to exchange it.
anyone else have this issue?
Anyone have a link to S-On/Stock guide for the G2?

This happened to me with my CDMA Hero (when I was with Sprint). I took the plunge and went ahead and opened it up. Then went to town with a can of air
Worked like a charm!
Voids warranty of course. (If you're considering it)
Don't really feel too comfortable taking it apart. Anyone have a guide to turn S-Off to S-On and a link to the original stock ROM?
I remember a few people posting it before. If you search for "dust" you will probably find it.
That would really bug me too, I returned a camera for exactly the same reason.
There are guides for returning to S-ON/stock in the dev forum, though there are different ones for the G2 and DZ that were written before the forum merger. It will also depend on whether you installed the engineering hboot (i.e. you'll need to restore the stock one if you have it, if not then you won't). If you used gfree then the Wiki now shows you how to use the latest version of gfree to undo radio S-OFF.
I've tried searching the dev forums for the S-On/stock guide but I can't seem to find it. In fact searching S-On returns no results. Could you perhaps provide a link. anyone?
You should find everything you need here;

I also have dust inside my screen within the first 2 weeks of owning the phone, it really annoyed me at first but I've gone past the bothered bit now
I have dust under my screen ...its nothing big but the phone is only 1 week old,
So i think that for that what i buy must be perfect in terms of built quality...
No dust, no nothing...
I pay for it and must be without any errors...
So tomorow im going to try an exchange or something.
Hiya, will just let you know how far i am, ive been repairs mobile phone screens and lcds and other minor fixes for about a year now, my friend bought me her wildfire s round which the digitizer had been cracked, so i ordered a replacement and when fitted the part it didnt seem to work, all the connections are fine and cant seem to see anything wrong with the board? any ideas? i dont think the phone is on the latest android firmware but i cant check cos of the digitizer, so was thinkin of updating the phone first to see if that works? is there anyway of updating the phone without using the phone i.e connected to a pc? and if that didnt work was going to restore it to see if that works?
Im alright on the hardware side of things but not so on the software?
Im aware it could be a faulty part just wanted to rule anything else out first so if u have any ideas they would be gratefully recieved.
Thanks
you need to run the nbh file
Just as bad as it sounds
I went to close my laptop and my laptop fell off my stand and the corner landed on my phone's screen and it cracked the screen significantly. (If my phone worked I would have taken a picture)
I do not have insurance and I'm in my 4th month of having it, what should I do? I figured I could attempt to do a repair myself and ordered a new screen for 179.99. I've looked up tutorials but really only found stuff relating to the I900 and not my t989.
Does anyone know if this process will be difficult? Or is there any hoops I can jump through for Samsung or T-mobile to help me out?
Thanks
Honestly, just look trough google for a repair shop.
Most places will only charge an additional 30-40 bucks on top of the cost of the screen but this way you don't have to worry about breaking anything as they will take responsibility.
After this, get insurance if you still can. Most people see those "We repair any phone for 50$" and don't realize that does not apply to Samsung owners.
Yeah I thought about that but considering that amount of time it would be between me sending out the phone and then waiting to get it back I figure I could do the repair myself without spending the extra $30-$50 and it would be a learning experience
I would like to know however if there is anything that samsung or t-mobile would do to help out or if there were some t989 tutorial

You can send it to Samsung and they will fix it for a price, but your better off having it fixed locally at a shop as recommended above.
T-mobile can't do anything for you at this point.
I wouldn't recommend you do it yourself....This is an extremely risky and difficult procedure, in particular on this phone. Even if you have done this before on another device, this is one of the toughest, so be prepared to bring your A game.
You could end up breaking the phone all together....that would be one expensive learning experience. I would just take it to somewhere local and have them do it.
I heavily researched replacing the chrome bezel on this phone and looked at tear down documentation. Discovered this phone is very hard to replace things on yourself. I have done repairs on G1's G2's but this is a whole different ball game.
I found this tutorial and figured I'll try this out in the meantime

If anyone has any advice on It would be appreciated
Fixed my galaxy s ii
Just reporting in, I received my new screen and successfully performed the transplant. I have some pics but not all of them on the screen removal I will post them ASAP.
FYI it is a fairly simple process not nearly as complicated as I feared but you have to make sure you have a fine touch and don't force any of the connections in.
In the meantime I have these two tutorials to thank

Hey guys,, just got my new Galaxy Nexus, brand new one
Charged it to full as it said in the manual and turned in on, it got into the first 'setup' window and decided to crash, ever since it's boot-looping on the Google logo like in this video and won't do anything else.
I tried factory reset from recovery, I tried to remove battery and try again, I tried with and without SIM, same thing...
now my question is - did i get a faulty phone and i should replace it or it's something I can fix myself? Thank you
As long as there's no icon of a lock under the google logo in the first screen you see while booting, it's a production problem.
all options given to you by people around here about how to unlock it and try to fix it yourself are redicioulus in your case. When you have the phone for less than 7 or 14 days (depending on the country you life in, best way to check is by going over the shop receipt it should be mentioned all the way down. If you bought it online you got a mail) you can walk to the store and demand a new one. If they tell you that they send it to the factory point them on the law and the promises on their receipt... you have the right to give them the package back and pick a new one from the shelf with the same price.
But remember to take everything you bought (cables, earplugs, guide, the cardboard inside the box and the box itself) with you! If you don't they will tell you that you did not bring anything and have no right to pick a new one.
Just get a fresh one it's the best way for you since this problem emerged within the first few hours (and literally on it's first boot). It's most likely a production error. Waiting for a fix at the factory will cost you weeks... and many people report scratches on their screen and broken covers since the phones are not always treated nicely during their travel and fix.
Please post future news on your case here... it's a great help for people with the same problem.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Same problem but after months
Hi there,
I just had the exact same problem, with a difference : my phone had been working just fine for months. Now, impossible to get it to boot. It cycles the "Google" screen, and that's it. I found that when I hold the volume button down as I start the phone it shows "odin mode", but I do not know what it is for and it does not seem to download anything.
Any ideas?
When it happens right after you purchased the phone, it's better to bring it back to where you bought it from.
On the other hand, try this. Hope this helps.
