Can I send or receive files through the InfraRed (IR) on my ZL?
I remember in the olden days, I used to send files through InfraRed on my W800i.
On the stock Rom it is not supported.
But maybe on a custom Rom or with an additional app.
But why?
Transfer over BT, WLAN and NFC is possible...

I think you've got it wrong.
The NTTdocomo version of the XZ (SO-02E) has an IR Blaster for controlling the TV.
iRDA is the old infrared used for data transfer but nothing has had that for quite a while now. Especially since bluetooth came out, as it had a faster transfer rate and didn't need direct line of sight, and a longer range.

i hope im wrong but you cant use the xda aas a remote for tv etc (cif)?
try TV remote controller 5.5 from www.pdawin.com... works perfect with my thomson tv set and my spv m2000
website states
Note: iPAQ 19xx is not supported so far!
Note: XDA 2 is not supported so far!
You can use XDA II as remote for your TV tunner or Amp. Install Novi Remote new version and don't forget to enable IR beam in Settings menu.
Asim
installed tvremote did learn and noyhing, well it did lwearn just didnt send a signal. where would i change those settings for the beam
really want to get this up and running tonight, i have set the beam settings on the ppc to "receive all incoming beams". i have tv remote 5.5 installed and using the XDA IIs. any ideas????
ok done some research and the ir in the xda is weak due to not being Consumer ir. but it is still usable as a remote but just has a weaker signal giving you 1.5 - 3m range.
So i now placed the pda right up 2 the tv but still nothing... anyone have a link for novi, is novi nevo????
Hi. I use "total remote" from griffin technologies. This works very well as a remote controller (although the range is a little short).
The software records and plays back absolutely fine.
I couldn't get the hardware sender to work, I believe the new PDA2K has a different headphone design (??)
Baz
THOUGHT OF SOMETHING, I HAVE NOT INSTALLED THE 02 SOFTWARE could this be the reason why??
have tried : Total remote and tv remote controler 5.5
had some trouble with the macro in total remote. to record a signal from my tv remote to the pda you macro >strart recoding marco> then press channel 1 on pda followed by press the remote for 5 sec, then???
still not working, does the o2 cabs hold drivers or software

There is nothing in the O2 or WM2003 cabs which will help. The I/R system in the XDA devices is simply not compatible with domestic remotes (psuter was obviously lucky with his Thomson TV).
The only way over this is by using a hardware adapter from Griffin Total Remote, or wait for the planned SDIO adapter from NoviBlaster.
The Griffin Solution is a pain with the XDA II due to the siting, and size of the headphone socket.
In short does this mean that i will not be able to use the remote with exra hardware being plugged into the xda iis?
I have used an xda 1 and xda 2 with remote software, the range isnt great but it works, it also acts as learning remote with no problems.
c-t , can you remember which software you used? I'd love to get this working. Any advice gratefully received.
take a peek at this url I found

So were pretty much agreed- we can use as remote control but only at a distance of around 1- 2m. s there a way of reconfiguring the hardware? If not is there some sort of sdio IR that we could use for remote control?
remote
i have been looking for Remote control...pls cud u send it to my [email protected]
Hi @ll..
i think the P3300 is the best 'mobile phone' i´ve ever had. But there is one thing, i really miss.
The Infrared-Port(!)
Does anyone knows, if there are an external infrared-port you can plug in the ExtUSB-Port?? I know, that´s not an active USB Port, but maybe there is an accessory, that you can use with an batterie, to have an external IR Port...
thanxx 2 @ll
Jeez, I've had my MDA Compact III about 6 months now, I've always had "Receive all incoming beams" selected, and only now do I realise there isn't even an IR port! D'oh!
Infrared ?! hm yes i remember ...wasnt it a 20 years old technoligy known for unstable connection and coverage less then 2m ? What exactly do u need it for (except cheesy remote controlling your TV)
Yea.. that´s it!
The only thing i want, is the remote controll function.
I had this on my old mobile phone, and that was really usefull!!!
I WANT IR BACK!

Waiiiiiit.
Unchecking this option disables file transfers via Bluetooth. And, no, I don't know what Microsoft were smoking when they thought that up.
Wouldn't it be great if someone would make a bluetooth receiver/ir repeater? That way you could use the bluetooth to remotely control all the home theater gadgets...up to 30'...through a wall....around the corner... If I were smart, I'd be rich.

Really smart would be to search the net as its quite easy to find products that can do this, the "Bluebird" is one such unit see http://koala.ece.stevens-tech.edu/sd/archive/03F-04S/websites/grp15/brochure.pdf - Mike

That appears to be a Stevens school project from 2004, not an actual product. That's not so smart.
Hey Everyone,
Has anybody identified a good program for having "remote control" functionality with the Hermes? I was in a place with REALLY bad TV where I would have killed for the ability to change the f-ing channel.
Thanks!
Try NoviiRemote Deluxe!

Seconded, it's superb. Had to manually program all the codes in though myself, as it refused to work with preprogrammed ones.
Forget IR-Remote with Hermes. The IR-beam is too weak, has only max. 1 meter radius
Doesn't look like it is actively produced anymore (but you can still track it down - http://www.shentech.com/totalremote.html ) I've still got a Griffin Total Remote and it'd be interesting to see if it would work with the headphone adapter etc. Essentially it is software and a powerful IR adapter that converts audio signals from your headphone jack to IR signals...
it is weak but it is better than nothing. i am using it my tytn as remote controller for my dslr on trips
i installed the new skype ver 3.0 and my bt headset(jabra halo) mics doesnt work? is this normal? as i have read bt headsets dont exactly work with skype yet? coz i hear my friend but she cant hear me ?

what do you mean same bt?
meaning se bt headset
cauz i have problems with others some times
I'm not so sure what starzshowz means, but Skype works perfectly for me. I use the Panel version as it is better optimized for the X1 than the general public version. Granted the latest general public has file transfer, but I don't need that as much as I need output to the proper phone speaker, and proper BT support.

It really works.
I used it to learn all the IR codes for a "Xing-Ling" (not listed) setup box. It wasn't easy, I tried each button a number of times before succeed.
My experience is that you have to put the remote near the IR sensor from ZL (less than one inch), and don't press the remote button more than once in each session.
Not for me..
It says that it learned succesful, but then the button never works

I tried many times , still no success
No luck for me. Once I selected manufacturer (Panasonic TV in my case) from the drop down, most of the buttons get mapped automatically. I tried to manually map the the remaining ones (like 'viera cast' etc) by holding the remote and phone very close with both IR sensors aligned, but it never worked for me
I checked IR LED with my webcam (same position )
Here my result :

I think that in learning mode we should see exactly that (the mobile is receiving the signal almost passively).
I also noticed that the IR can't learn well if we don't preselect (in the listed options) the device most similar to the one that is to be learnt.
this has been investigated by Sony and it's not a software problem but a hardware problem in some units. It's not a general problem that occurs with all Xperia ZL.
If your phone is unable to learn new codes properly the only solution is to contact your local Sony Xperia support or an authorized service location to have your phone repaired or replaced.

I don't think it's hardware. On android 4.1 learning works, and on 4.2.2 it doesn't work....
Sony Xperia ZL C6503, rooted, 4.2.2 Stock

Mine didn't work on 4.1
If Sony selves says there is a hardware problem.
Maybe there are two issues.
Mine didn't work on both 4.1 and 4.2
only the presets that come with the app works
i dunno what remote signal are u all trying to learn.. but for me, im succeed to learn Hisense and Singer TV in those hotels im stayed while im vacation. other brands of TV like Samsung, Sony, Sharp, JVC, Panasonic, i just tried preset settings.. worked well..
so i can confirmed my ZL hv no problem in manual learning signal from remote control. Only air conditioner remote control failed to remote it..

In my case I tried to add additional codes for my Pioneer Plasma, Marantz receiver and ADB decoder. All three are present in the preset settings but are missing some useful buttons that I wanted to add. So yes they are 200% sure IR controlled devices, and not radio controlled devices.
Meanwhile my phone is at the Phone House, and waiting feedback from the phone house.
I'm bumping this a bit because this problem is apparently annoying multiple Xperia ZL users. The related thread at the Sony support forum unfortunately is marked as solved, although no proof of a solution has been spotted yet.
As Sony's local Service Centers seem to be unaware of the functionality, let alone have a fix for the problem, I am trying to escalate this issue to Sony, in the hopes of a proper fix.
In this light, I would like to request anyone having issues with IR not learning signals properly to post in that thread and help make Sony aware of this problem. With strength in numbers, we'll get this fixed.
