It really works.
I used it to learn all the IR codes for a "Xing-Ling" (not listed) setup box. It wasn't easy, I tried each button a number of times before succeed.
My experience is that you have to put the remote near the IR sensor from ZL (less than one inch), and don't press the remote button more than once in each session.
Not for me..
It says that it learned succesful, but then the button never works

I tried many times , still no success
No luck for me. Once I selected manufacturer (Panasonic TV in my case) from the drop down, most of the buttons get mapped automatically. I tried to manually map the the remaining ones (like 'viera cast' etc) by holding the remote and phone very close with both IR sensors aligned, but it never worked for me
I checked IR LED with my webcam (same position )

I think that in learning mode we should see exactly that (the mobile is receiving the signal almost passively).
I also noticed that the IR can't learn well if we don't preselect (in the listed options) the device most similar to the one that is to be learnt.
this has been investigated by Sony and it's not a software problem but a hardware problem in some units. It's not a general problem that occurs with all Xperia ZL.
If your phone is unable to learn new codes properly the only solution is to contact your local Sony Xperia support or an authorized service location to have your phone repaired or replaced.

If Sony selves says there is a hardware problem.
Maybe there are two issues.
Mine didn't work on both 4.1 and 4.2
only the presets that come with the app works
i dunno what remote signal are u all trying to learn.. but for me, im succeed to learn Hisense and Singer TV in those hotels im stayed while im vacation. other brands of TV like Samsung, Sony, Sharp, JVC, Panasonic, i just tried preset settings.. worked well..
so i can confirmed my ZL hv no problem in manual learning signal from remote control. Only air conditioner remote control failed to remote it..

In my case I tried to add additional codes for my Pioneer Plasma, Marantz receiver and ADB decoder. All three are present in the preset settings but are missing some useful buttons that I wanted to add. So yes they are 200% sure IR controlled devices, and not radio controlled devices.
Meanwhile my phone is at the Phone House, and waiting feedback from the phone house.
I'm bumping this a bit because this problem is apparently annoying multiple Xperia ZL users. The related thread at the Sony support forum unfortunately is marked as solved, although no proof of a solution has been spotted yet.
As Sony's local Service Centers seem to be unaware of the functionality, let alone have a fix for the problem, I am trying to escalate this issue to Sony, in the hopes of a proper fix.
In this light, I would like to request anyone having issues with IR not learning signals properly to post in that thread and help make Sony aware of this problem. With strength in numbers, we'll get this fixed.

Hi All,
tried searching the threads on ICS upgrade with bluetooth and Blue&Me but unfortunately couldn't find much so thought of writing.
I have upgraded to the official sony ICS ROM via PC Companion on my Arc (LT15i).... done a repair... and set it up exactly the way i want to. must say that i loved it and am quite happy with the performance of the phone as well... there's the occasional lag but it isn't too bad as yet.
Now to my problem (and a few other queries)
1) Bluetooth: Has anybody had any success in pairing the bluetooth with another bluetooth device... preferably a car bluetooth system? I had it working perfectly on the GB (.62) ROM and could use the phone via my Fiat Linea's Blue&Me feature. Now i just can'[t pair it.... when i search for devices it does show Blue&Me but when i try to pair it all i get is that wait cursor kinda thing and then back to search devices screen. it just doesn't pair and give me the option to enter the passcode generated by Blue&Me.
2) Has anyone faced any issues in editing contacts which are synched to Google? Thankfully the HD Pics now work as google sync is not resizing them but in some contacts when i try to edit it the screen simply scrolls back to the top. these are linked contacts (Gmail... Facebook... Facebook inside Xperia.... Whatsapp).
thank you very much in advance for any help that the gurus on this forum can give. I'd especially like to get the bluetooth working as i can live with the contacts editing issue!
thanks, Maverick

I think the problem is with Blue&Me... I've a Parrot and a Chinese GPS integrated in the other Car, and no problem with both of them.
Try to remove the asociation from the Car and then try to pair again. Maybe the Blue&Me assumes the device is the same and the protocol may be different.
In case it doesn't work this way, maybe you need an update from Fiat.

Same issue on Subaru forster
have the same issue on Subaru after updating to ICE, the Xperia ARC identify the car media, but it fails (and no pin enter screen)
This is not happening in GB so I guess it is an ICE issue.

The Workaround:
1) Turn on bluetooth on your smartphone and open a contact card.
2) Start the pairing of hands-free of the car.
3) When the blue & me asks for the code, send the contact via Bluetooth: The phone searches for other devices. Selecting "Blue & Me", you have the opportunity to enter the code presented on the dashboard.
4) Now Blue & Me will ask you to copy the address book: Select "Yes".
5) In the notification bar of smartphone is prompted to connect bluetooth: select "do not ask for more" and accept the request.

Can I send or receive files through the InfraRed (IR) on my ZL?
I remember in the olden days, I used to send files through InfraRed on my W800i.
On the stock Rom it is not supported.
But maybe on a custom Rom or with an additional app.
But why?

I think you've got it wrong.
The NTTdocomo version of the XZ (SO-02E) has an IR Blaster for controlling the TV.
iRDA is the old infrared used for data transfer but nothing has had that for quite a while now. Especially since bluetooth came out, as it had a faster transfer rate and didn't need direct line of sight, and a longer range.

I don't think it's a bluetooth problem it seems to be something with the app-smartphone related.

Unfortunately Acer's Bluetooth stack is probably missing or poorly implementing some BT profiles required for a correctly working connection.

A possible solution might be installing another ROM, like a CyanogenMod (if available for that smartphone).

I have a acer e2 too, to me works, but if i power off smartwatch 2 and power on it, the acer doesn't connect. I must restart the phone and it connects.
EDIT: now i have discovered that, when i power off the smartwatch 2, i must kill the process "smartwatch2" from the phone and if i power on the smartwatch 2 it connects! ^_^
Same issue here.
SW2 and Acer Liquid E2 Duo (aka v370) do not connect.
Pairing succedes but after 1 second the connection falls and you have to pair it again and again.
Tried with bluetooth fix repair and once it worked, but it never worked again.
Has someone suggestions?

Mine too. Could someone help me how to fix bluetooth pairing error. Really need help. Always error when pairing to others device. How to fix. Already try pkill. But didn't find file. Plizz help buddy.
The solution for acer e2 is to install androium 3.5 ROM. It is based on Acer e3 Rom that hasn't any problem!
Which phone and android version do you have?
Hi everyone!
I’m sorry if this is not the right place to post this kind of question - I searched for this information and could not find anything in others foruns.
I have a Sony Xperia Z3 (D6643) with Android 5.1.1.
I recently bought a SMEG+IV2 from Citroen and installed it on my car (a Citroen DS3). This equipment is MirrorLink (and Apple CarPlay) enabled.
I also found that MirrorLink originally is a “crap” feature because I can use only pre-allowed applications (crap navigation app, crap audio app and so on) so I started to search for a solution.
Here in XDA there are many topics about “Samsung Drive Link” as an alternative but unfortunately (and of course) it doesn’t work with my Sony device.
Does anybody have a way so I can fully mirror my phone to my car (use Waze, default Spotfy and etc)?
Regards,
lzsilva
Nobody? :crying:
Hi izsilva,
similar situation here: new Citroen C5 Tourer with SMEG+IV2 (and updated with your R20 firmware, thanks! ), and multiple phones: Z5 Compact, Z1 Compact, Z and SGS7 Edge.
Am in similar situation, trying and experimenting with MirrorLink. The technology itself I'd not call "crap", it relies on well proven things, like VNC (yeah, that VNC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Network_Computing) and other things, so essentially is well grounded. The problem with it, is that despite it calls itself "open", the technology is actually very "closed", is hard to get any stuff working with it in other way than initially designed. But, the reasons for that is, well, law and regulations. MirrorLink must obey US, EU and Japan (three biggest "areas" with different regulations, AFAIK, US is most "relaxed" and Japan is most restrictive, and rest of the world is around EU of strictness: ie. you cannot phone during driving without speakerphone, no driver distractions, etc). Hence, MirrorLink has a very tough criteria to make an android application "MirrorLink certified", it is literally being tested for no distractions (among other things), and then and only then is let to be used. But, we are talking about a lengthy process here, and as we know, time in software development is key, not to mention (and am not aware, maybe it's free) is there any other "fee" to have an app certified. If there is, it is definitely not Open Source friendly either. Me as a person, open source developer am actually shot immediately down.
There are "hacks", like the trick with Samsung MirrorLink server, where Samsung (or whoever implemented their MirrorLink Server) left a "backdoor", a SQLite preferences with "whitelisted" packages + root, see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNzXjX4mSog). Unfortunately (or not, who knows), Sony MirrorLink server app is based on RealVNC MirrorLink Server (I guess Sony bought it and incorporated it or just outsourced the work to RealVNC, whatever), all in all, the "prefs" trick does not work on Sony MirrorLink phones.
To better understand the problem, let me explain how MirrorLink actually works: you have 3 components: the client (runs on SMEG+IV2), the server (runs on phone, it seems it must be an Android System Application AFAIK, unsure, see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/35456209/implement-mirrorlink-on-custom-rom-android ) and the application (runs on phone). The server uses digital signatures to verify is application MirrorLink certified or not (as part of certification you get a digital signature too I believe). So, there is not much to do here, it is not like "flipping a bit": modding a digitally signed app/payload/something in a way that other (unmodified) component does not detect it's changed (and refuse it as invalid), without having the private key is near to impossible.
Still, there are other possibilities: "development mode" of MirrorLink allows to run "development" software, but, it is instead of a certificate, tied to given IMEI number of the phone it runs on. Am still experimenting with it, not there, but again, this means a) someone needs to code something that suits your need b) you need to have MirrorLink developer account c) the app must run on phone having IMEI you registered with your account. Again, not a "simple case".
Stay in touch, will ping here if anything new crops up.
PS: Any new firmwares lately?

Evening all,
I recently acquired a 2016 Peugeot 208 - Much to my dismay however it only supports Apple Carplay and mirrorlink, which is not ideal for me as a Samsung S7 edge user with the advent of Android Auto as the very superior UX.
Whilst mirrorlink works for the odd app I find it all in all useless and so for now I just have my phone mounted below the head unit using the android auto UI on my phone.
Peugeot have iced the cake by telling me that they can't add Android Auto functionality to my head unit in February when they release the new 208s with it, which strikes me as ridiculous given it has a USB interface which means if it can run Apple Carplay it should be able to run Android Auto (if someone can confirm this for me just so I know I'm not being stupid that'd be great as I'm going to go and push them in the garage in February if I dont hear otherwise).
After quite some googling I have come across nothing: Does anyone have a way to completely mirror the screen of my android phone to the head unit of my car, or alternatively make it so Android Auto is miraculously supported by Mirrorlink? The wonders of rocksound appears to have been patched since it immediately recognises I'm trying to access my home screen and tells me it is not supported. For now I'm stuck either with my phone mounted or alternatively plugging an old iPhone in and tethering it, but that's not ideal given I want all my notifications etc, plus Android is just better anyway. I considered ripping out the entire head unit and putting an entire new one in but that's impractical and expensive.
If anyone has any input on this (or a link to something I've missed explaining how to fully mirror it) it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks - that seems to partially work, however I am finding that whenever I interact with anything within for example android auto, or when I try to launch an app, the smeg says that the application is not supported and I have to reselect LG mirrordrive to keep going (the same happens when starting voice control since presumably the launching of the google now overlay that triggers it) - okay whilst Im sitting still but a touch impractical for when Im driving. It's certainly a decent workaround for now, however if there's something I can change that will make it either so it doesnt error with every app being opened or an alternative, that would be much appreciated.
Cheers
I'm so sorry .It was worth trying. This works at Honda, VW, Skoda und SEAT.

I'm in a very similar (worse) situation as you are. I have a Nexus 6P, which doesn't even support MirrorLink... only Android Auto. And my 208 has CarPlay and MirrorLink, but no Android Auto .
Is this true, that the new 2017 models have the Android Auto installed? We should see which SMEG unit and version 2017 models have installed... the 2016 model has a SMEG IV2 unit and software versions starting with 6.x.x.x (my current installed version is 6.1.D.R8).
I found a 6.3.C.R11 update on the internet, but i'm not sure if it includes the Android Auto.
I have a 2017 model and a htc one m8s. The idea behind android auto is fantastic - unfortunately, my phone keeps disconnecting and rendering the google maps redundant after 4 mins driving! I think this is probably my phone's fault, but I am interested to see that others are having trouble....

Works for me. With the right cable.
My reply comes a little late, but might help others coming here with the same problem...
I got my 2017 Peugot 208 yesterday and one of the first things, I tried, was connecting it to my phone(s). Although the manual only says, it supported Apple Carplay and Android Mirrorlink, I can confirm, that it also supports Android Auto. At first, it didn't work for me. I had to use 6 different USB cables, until I found one, it worked with.
With the first cable, it tried to connect, but before I even had a chance to press OK, the dialog disappeared. The phone showed a android auto communication error 16.
With the next four cables, nothing happend. Neither on the car display, nor on the phone. Manually opening the Android Auto app, didn't help either. It only showed it on the phone.
When I was already about to give up, I tried one last cable, that I brought to the car with me. It was a very short one (about 15 cm) from Aukey. With that cable, it worked like a charm. I could confirm the dialog on the car display and instantly saw Android Auto after that.
Later, I found this article: productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/android-auto/LV5HsOjkPyI/MlyOoBoPBAAJ. It seems to be a common problem and in that article, you can find a list of cables, that are supposed to work. One good idea seems to be to use the original usb cable, that came with your phone. I tried that today and it worked right away. It's a Samsung cable in my case (connected to a Galaxy S7 running SuperMan Mod). Here is a link to the cable together with a charger: amazon.de/Samsung-ETA-U90EWE-Ladeger%C3%A4t-Netzadapter-DatenKabel-Wei%C3%9F/dp/B01E9G4IHG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=ce-de&ie=UTF8&qid=1514492334&sr=1-6&keywords=original+samsung+micro+usb+kabel&linkCode=ll1&tag=yammade-21&linkId=237d676f3199eb607c4e07f09e3fdafb" (Note: I linked to the one with the charger, because this one has good ratings. There are a lot of fake cables on amazon with poor ratings.)
I didn't have a lot of luck with cables from Aukey amazon.de/Ladekabel-Datenkabel-Samsung-Android-Smartphones-Wei%C3%9F/dp/B00TALGDMO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1514491813&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=aukey+usb+kabel+wei%C3%9F+5+st%C3%BCck&linkCode=ll1&tag=yammade-21&linkId=9101b8f12129b7290ece34d35a4f27db". But at least one in four worked, so in case you're desperate, you might give them a try...
Btw, Apple Carplay works too. I used a third party cable and it connected instantly without any problems.
PS: I'm not allowed to post real links, because I'm new in the forums.
Hi everyone,
I'm on the same problem than you, I got a 2016 208 with SMEG+IV2 and sadly just like you, android auto is not supported.
Since i'm French I may have found more infos about why and how in French forums.
So basically since february 2017, 208, and most likely all the new Peugeot cars, have a different head unit NAC (Navigation Audio Connectée; Connected Audio Navigation). Which has a better touch screen quality, firmware, buttons and so on. There is no more useless mirrorlink but Android Auto just like Apple Car.
That was my bad when (2 months ago when I recieved my car) I found out that the car I bought was 6 months too old.
I tried to contact Peugeot's staff, they told me they had no idea about if we could replace the head unit to the newest (physically), but they will "keep an eye on the situation and come back to me" ... still no feedback, and even if it was possible, I think it would be hard to find a dealer that would know how to do it.
Anyway that's what I know. (Tried my best to explain).
Hi,
I have the same situation and my local service doesn't know it either. Does anyone have any news?
Thanks.

In Brazil only Peugeot cars from 2017/2018 have this new Head Unit. I have a 2017/2017 and I can only work with Mirror Link which is fine at the moment. I can work with all apps I want, the only thing is the microphone. I can't seem to make it work on specific applications suck as the search for google maps, or the microphone on the Android Auto App from the phone.
Though if I make a phone call it will work just fine. Strangely enough.
