[Q] Phone blocked after formatting system - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody.
Someone sold me a modified Xperia Arc S, lately i felt it was having troubles because of it so i wanted to just wipe data and turn back to a clean install.
The one who sold that phone to me told me to push - button to go to a Advanced menu, that's what i did, i wiped all... And even system part :/
All i know is :
- I have a trollface "U Mad" when i boot on my phone
- I can access to CWM- based Recovery v5.5.0.4 (where i did the wipe) with - button, but i don't have any backup there so can't restore.
- I can install things as zip in CWM
I tried to use flashtools, but i can't boot with blue led, so it does not see my phone in fastboot :
2/012/2013 00:12:43 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
22/012/2013 00:12:43 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
22/012/2013 00:12:54 - INFO - Launching Fastboot Toolbox 1.0 by DooMLoRD

Just for you to know : my phone is clean and my SD card too, all my data are safe if it's needed. I can reinstall all...
PS : not sure it fit my problem, but i saw this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971524 so i'm downloading it : Generic Trade France (4.0.4) (1254-2259)
Do you have a way to fix it ?
Thank you all. And btw yes i'm french if it's needed to know.

Okay i did what i said in the end of the post and i have an official Rom that's better

Search for flashtool guide (for noobs). I hope this will get you there. Remember one of the most important rules here is 'search before posting'.
I hope you'll like it here
OK, so first you have to know I'm not one of those over experienced guy as I just bought my LT18i a month ago (wa on iPhone before).
I made a few mistakes in the process the first time, bricked my phone and stressed as hell before I finally repaired it.
Here is what you need to know if you want to avoid usual errors :
1 - There are 2 ways to proceed :
- With OR
- Without unlocked bootloader
(I only know how to do with an unlocked bootloader)
2 - To upgrade to ICS you have to take 3 things in considerations :
- The Kernel (core of the phone system, supports ROMs)
- The ROM (Operating System of your phone, often with a patch for LT18i)
- The Baseband (System overlay that supports communications)
3 - The tool used to flash ROMs, Basebands and Kernels with an unlocked bootloader is Flashtool.
4 - To authorize your phone to be flashed (modify the system memory) you'll have to plug it to your computer in Fastboot mode.
Turn off phone -> Plug to computer -> Press Menu button during boot -> Turn on phone -> Screen should be black and LED blue.
You'll need drivers for your phone to be actually recognized by Flashtool.
5 - My personnal choice for ROMs is Arconium ICS 4.0.x (based on the stock ROM) which is supported by Xarc or ArcKnight kernels. Those two work with the baseband 72 ( you may currently have 64, search in Settings -> About Phone)
6 - The overall process should be like :
Unlock your bootloader (http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com / you may loose guarantee)
Get the latest version of Flashtool (v 0.8.sthg) and needed drivers for LT18i
Get the kernel, ROM, and baseband you chose (still keep in mind that they must be all 3 compatibles, look at specifications)
Have your phone charged (at least over 50~60%)
Download and install ROM Manager in Google Store
Copy your ROM and patch in your SD card (wherever you want)
- Plug your phone in fastboot mode and open Flashtool (drivers installed, obviously)
- Flash your kernel
- Flash your baseband
- Unplug and power up phone
- Go to ROM Manager and reboot in Recovery
- Clean UserData, Wipe cache, use every "wipe/erase stuff" command you see, this usually work
- Choose option "Install zip from SD Card" -> "your main ROM"
- Choose option "Install zip from SD Card" -> "your patch" (Don't swap those 2 steps or you'll brick your phone)
- Reboot
I think that's all I can provide to you, the hardest part being to find all necessary links. But I still believe it's a good summary of all you'll have to do to get your phone on ICS, from A to Z.
Sorry if i can't provide the very details (links, software or recovery mode step by step, ... ) but as I said before, I'm not an expert and I'm still in the process too !! (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28006082)
Hope it'll be helpfull, and others can guide you if you don't find the rest by yourself !

I installed OpenSEMC CM10.1 and I swiped my sd card unintentionally when I did a factory reset to my phone. Now my phone has no OS, and instead of going to fastboot mode by volume up, my old ROM OpenSEMC replaced to be recovery mode.
Now I can do nothing with my Phone, cannot open fastboot mode. What can I do ? Pls help me :crying::crying::crying:
SXS doesn't have sd card. Use Emma to install stock fw or Flashtool.

I use FlashTool but I cannot identify my device. The driver cannot be installed although I click the driver file of FlashTool. Therefore, that tool is useless for my device

http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/tool/flash-tool-for-xperia-devices/ try this.
I have downloaded it already. But it can do nothing. As I said above, my device was installed OpenSEMC Rom, it makes my device jump to TWRP Recovery instead of fastboot mode.

If you can enter TWRP, factory wipe everything and install CM10.1 again and let it boot.
I lost all my sd scard data when clicking Wipe external memory unintentionally (((((((((( :crying: Now my sdcard folder has no file at all
As it was said already, you need to reinstall usb drivers and use flashtool to flash stock firmware.
When my device was in TWRP, it appeared a unknown device on my PC. It names "Xperia-S" , USB\VID_0FCE&PID_6169. I reinstalled the drivers from Flashtool folder but it is useless
Follow this guide:

I'm not sure for TWRP but it should have an option for mounting USB. (like CWM)
So connect your phone to PC, mount USB and just copy another kernel, ROM or whatever you need, flash it and that's it.
And try with different PC, maybe with XP.
EDIT - TWRP has mount option (just check it), so just do that, if your PC can't discover XS as a disk drive, try with different PC.

Sideload new rom, twrp can do that.
You can use Flashtool to flash stock rom
just install other rom via fastboot.....

[Q] How to repair my Xperia S , seems like bricked

Hi guys ,
at first i am a noob but i want to learn
Today i decided to install custom firmware ( P.A.C v22 ) so i rooted my phone , unlocked the bootloader. Then installed recovery , got into it , did everything :
Download Rom + Latest Gapps (Links in "Downloads" section)
- Copy them to your Internal SDCard
- Reboot into Recovery
- Do a Factory Reset/Wipe data
- Wipe Cache
- Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Advanced -> Fix permissions
- Mounts and Storage -> Format /system
- Install zip from SDCard -> Choose zip from SDCard -> Choose the Rom and install
Click to collapse
And in the last step i got installation error , i panicked and rebooted phone.
Now there is only Sony logo , i can't turn off my phone , soft resets dont help , i cant even turn it off. Fastboot and flashmode dont work
Is it dead or can i still rescue it ?
If there is sony logo, then ur on safe side. Its just you have to flash stock ftf through flashtool

1.- Hold the volume up and power buttons.
2.- Once the sony logo disappears and the screen turns off immediately release the buttons.
By doing this your phone will be off.
Now it should work Flashmode and Fastboot.
Good luck

That is what i did yesterday. I left it for the night with Sony logo on because i wasnt able to turn him off in the way you said. When I woke up there was no Sony logo , i plugged it to the computer and there is red led light but i managed to get into both flash an fastboot modes so there is hope
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35096528#post35096528
I managed to mess up mine by incorrectly flashing a rom. This sorted me out. Had red light only, nothing else. Brown trousers for a few hours...
Managed to flash stock rom and everything is ok but when i try to install P.A.C there is mount error and installation is aborted.
I've read about this and the solution is installing opensemc kernel BUT i can't , because of error ( doing this by flashtool ).
**** happens like they say but i want this rom soooo badly , anyone ?

[Q] Sony Xperia ZL / root

I tried many times to root the phone, unfortunately i couldn't.
Special thanks to user destroyedbeauty, he adviced my ( in PM ) step by step how to do it, but still no success.I followed the steps very careful.
When i tried to root, i didn't check USB Debugging & Unknown Sources.
Should i ?
Is there a way to install apps which require root, on the phone with no root ?
Below are the steps i tried to root the phone, adviced by the mentioned user.
I rather recommend that you install an kernel with pre-configed root access (Doomkernel / Advanced Stock kernel / XzK-kernel) by using built-in Fastboot in Flashtool. By doing this method, do this!!!:
1) Download kernel ZIP from specific kernel thread in "Xperia Z (Original) Android Development" thread section. Take anyone of these below, I also link Advanced Stock Kernel if you want complete stock Sony kernel with added init.d / root / recovery add-on / built-in!;
a) Xz-Gaming v1.0
b) XzK-Kernel v11.0
c) Doomkernel v19
d) AdvancedStockkernel
OBS!! Choice latest kernel from list in each thread for getting latest kernel that is optimized and made for your installed FW. Otherwise, problems can occur..
2) Extract boot.img from downloaded ZIP and put boot-file in Flashtool > Firmwares. After this, copy the same zip to your phone external / internal-SD card. Leave it there and continue read..
3) Turn off your phone and hold volume up, then connect phone to USB-cable. Keep an eye on LED notify lamp, see if it blinking blue - then you're connected in fastboot mode between phone and PC!
4) Open up Flashtool and push on the "Bolt-Button". Select fastboot, then go to firmware subfolder in your Flashtool folder on HDD and select extracted boot.img. Read log in flashtool, read it carefully. If everything seems to be normal, disconnect your phone and boot it up.
5) Go into recovery mode by either hammering volume up / volume down button and then choice "Install ZIP" option. Search after your ZIP file in recovery that contains boot.img and wifi-specific modules (critical for getting working WIF / Bluetooth!!).
6) After completed flashing, wipe cache and Dalvik cache (Dalvik can be found under Advanced section in recovery).
7) Reboot and voilá! Enjoy your custom kernel!
I only tried with "AdvancedStockkernel"
After step 4, the display stays black, nothing happent, no boot, no Sony logo, nothing.
I want to mention one more think : when i unlocked the bootloader 2 days ago, i followed this link :
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
It was successful. On the next step I was asked to write my email / imei / etc !!! Everything went ok.
After that, i tried to root and something went wrong, so i flashed whole .67 FTF in flashmode, again. Now is stock
Is the bootloader still unlocked, after i flashed .67 ftf in flashmode ? Could that be the reason i can't root the phone ?
Should i try again to unlock the bootloader, before i start again to root ?
Please help me guys.
Thank you

Flashing recovery went terribly wrong on Xperia S

Hi
So yesterday I was trying to install TWRP recovery in order to install Cyanogenmod 11 on Xperia S , I followed a tutorial on techglen, the problem is that now I only have the recovery on my phone , it boots instead of the system , the system files are still there but I can't boot on it , If i connect my phone to my computer I can't access the storage even if I mount it using TWRP
So i have some questions
Is my phone broken?
Instead of flashing a .elf file i flashed the .img instead , is that the source of the problem? ( i didn't do it on purpose , but i didn't pay attention :/ )
can i flash the boot.img of the old system to get it back on booting ?
If there's a way of pushing the CM11 into my phone and installing it would that fix my problem?
Can i use flash tool to flash my old system back ?
Hi,
do you have the zip file of your custom rom on internal stockage ?
(browse file with 'Install" on TWPR)
If yes, you just have to flash it with TWPR.
Here's what I did (will do a clean install and delete previous setting, contact, app data ...) :
- Download ROM + Gapps and copy to sdcard (internal stockage)
- Flash boot.img with FlashTool
- Reboot on recovery (TWPR)
- Factory Reset (Wipe --> "Switch to Factory Reset")
- Format System (Wipe --> Advanced Wipe --> Select System)
- Install New ROM (Install and choose Zip)
- Reboot on ROM to set basic settings
- Reboot on recovery to Flash Gapps
- Wipe Cache (Wipe --> Advanced Wipe --> Select Cache)
- Reboot on System
If you don't have zip file on internal stockage, you may go back first on Stock Rom with FlashTool.
Flash stock ftf(6.2.b.1.96), you can easily find it using search function.
Then you can do like I explained.

Well thanks a lot for your answer man !
when i put on flash mode and try to flash it with flashtool , the phone leaves flash mode after like 40 seconds
I tried installing the drivers ( from flashtool/drivers ) but it didn't change anything :/
Do not confused Fastboot and Flashmode.
Normaly you just have to :
(I guess your tft is already in "firmwares" folder of FlashTool)
- start FlashTool (with Administrator Rights on Windows)
- clic on "Flash device"
- select "Flashmode"
- select all file in "Content"
- clic on "Flash"
- your xperia s must be poweroff and unpluged
- Press the back button (still powered off)
- Then plug the USB cable
After that your phone boot in Flashmode and flashing start.
If they don't work, what is the error ?

Don't put your device on flashmode until flashtool tell you because flashtool takes about 1 minute and 20 seconds to finish extract ftf file

You can simply try pushing the CM11 zip to Your phone when You are in twrp and Your phone is detected on the PC. You won't be able to see it as mounted storage. You will see the device when You run:
Code:
adb devices
Then Use the command to push:
Code:
adb push path/to/rom /sdcard
And then flash the ROM.
