So I've been checking sammobile.com every morning lately, hoping for a new Telus 4.1.2, with no luck this far. Anyone know of when we may see a 4.1.2? :banghead: PS im gonna voice my opinion at Telus today and see what they say.

I'll definitwly ask "what's the dealio", but I'll most likely get the default reply, "we must test the firmware updates thoroughly before releasing to the general public."
It is bs that the international was released ages ago and a couple big carriers in the states have received recently but nothing for AT&T or Canada.
I know when it's released I will use it for a day and then back to AOKP. Touchwiz has some nice apps and features but prefer cm based roms for customizability and battery life.

Well sure enough, their reply was pretty much what I thought it would be. The guy at Telus kinda leveled with me and said he personally has no idea when a release could be, but guessed that since T-Mobile publicly released their 4.1.2, ours should follow in the next week or two. That's just an educated guess though.

Sure ......Telus seems to be notorious for slow updates. I suspect it will be more like one or two months.

Yeah Telus sure is the breadwinner, when it comes to reliable carriers. Hopefully the release is soon. Im itching to start building a new rom with a Telus base.
Pretty sure we'll never get to see 4.1.2 on our phones.
We'll get 4.2.2 instead, which makes much more sense from a carrier's perspective.
They already upgraded our phones to Jelly Bean 4.1.1. The next logicial step is to go to 4.2.x (most likely 4.2.2).
A 4.2.2 build for the international version came up a few days ago on sammobile.
I'd expect equivalent builds for the N/A variants to show up in a month or 2... and eventually make their way to the carriers.
And if we're lucky enough, we might eventually see 4.3.x someday.
That's if Samsung is willing to go this far with the GS3 and, only then, if the carriers care enough to "test" it.
Just don't put all your eggs in that 4.3.x basket...

Care to tell me your secret?
On touchwiz/stock rooted I get ~3 days of battery with general use; 24-32hrs of heavy use with tethering.
On any AOK/SP roms, and I've tried nearly all the big players (Task650, ParanoidKang, ParanoidAndroid, PAC-man, etc), I'm lucky to last throughout the night. Same apps, same settings, same everything across the board.
If I take it off the charger at 100% at 8pm, by 6am I'm at 40-50% battery.. but on stock I'll be in the 80s somewhere..

You can get 3 days on touchwiz??? man I should swtich back, I didn't think that was possible with stock battery
usually i do get better battery via AOSP/AOKP at around 22-24 hours with 2-3 hour screen on time thats really good already
3 DAYS wow!

On average.. As an example I'll use this long weekend that just passed (May 24 for Canadians). I took my phone off the charger at 4pm Friday, and by this morning when my alarm went off for Work it was at 3% (just made it!).
That was with wifi mostly off, bluetooth mostly on and connected to my car, a few "here and there" emails and a good 20mins on a chrome/reddit browsing session at an impromptu 4am wakeup from the dog..
Text messages and Facebook notifications as well floating by at a regular pace, but nothing too crazy, no tethering or asst. light, nothing crazy battery heavy. Brightness was at a locked 70% (used an NFC tag to get it exactly at that), took 8 pictures with flash and 2 videos with light on totaling 4 minutes. I think there was a two or three minute time when I plugged it into my computer to transfer some media on and off the phone, but that wouldn't even get me half a percent of battery..
Around 10am it notified me that the battery was fully charged - I removed it from the charger then, and currently, 4 hours later, I'm sitting at 95%. That was with 25 text message sent/received, two facebook messages, three emails, and about 10 restarts from me screwing around with TiBu uninstalls, apk installations and recovery related maintenance.
EDIT: Stock battery, for those wondering..

Victoria Day long weekend is casually referred too as "The May 24 Weekend", as it normally has the 24th of May somewhere in that weekend. Yes the 24th is two days from now, but I was referring to the long weekend that just passed for Canadians like myself

I already ordered the phone at 12:01am friday since I was on vacation and had no stores near me. After reading some issues everyone is having, I am wonder if I should return it and wait for a new batch. The one issue that I'm really going to get ticked about is the screen being so sensitive and selecting on its own while charging. Its said to be the samsung charger is the cause of the problem. What is samsung going to do? Mail us all new chargers? Ha!
The other problem would be 3g/4g getting stuck and needing a reboot and wifi having poor signal. Silly things like the notification of when its fully charged, independent ringer/notification volume makes me feel like ill be using a new body palm centro or bb.
Maybe the Evo will stay with me for awhile longer. I feared going back to samsung and had nothing but problems with their phones.
I haven't had any problems using the phone when it's plugged in. I got my phone in Springfield MA on the first day. The battery life is great on this thing and it flies. Like I said in the battery posting area. I only lose about 3% per hour when I'm not using it and I run Skype in the back ground. Yesterday when I was sitting around watching football I was on it constantly. I was surfing and played a couple of games. I easily got 4 hours of screen on time. Still had about 18% when I plugged it in last night. Although I wasn't running Skype on it during that time.
I rooted and my Wifi range is much better than my Epic. Wifi Tether works great. I am loving it and I have no complaints either. The battery life is great too

I am not personally having any of those issues, I bought mine at 10am on the 16th and I've had 0 issues thus far.
My wifi is terrible but only problem so far. I feel with the dev and mainstream interest on this device, updates and fixes will be out very soon. I work for a 3rd party retaer and its expected supply to be limited. I'd defintly go ahead and get one.

Thanks for the replies so far. Being that I have an Evo4G im sure battery life on anything else is better. Just worried about the screen doing things on its own while charging.
I got this phone last Saturday. The phone is working great. The battery is much better than my HTC evo. I only have one problem is that my headset control doesn't work at all. Overall, I love this phone.
So you folks, really recommend the phone at this early stage?
I havn't used the charger that it came packaged with, I'm still using my charger from my Samsung Rant, Exclaim or Moment (I've had Samsung phones a long time except for the Evo I had since its launch), but I have had no issues with it.
Only problems I have noticed if reception seems weaker than I am used to..But I think that will be addressed in firmware updates.
Over all, FANTASTIC device.

Yes, based on using the phone since Friday, I'd easily recommend it.
I would definitely recommend it..I walked into the Sprint store on Friday just to check it out and play with it...ended up getting it on Friday

I have been reading everyday since the day it came out... the same day I bought it.
Hope you all don't mind but I have quite a few questions/frustrations
1st, Battery life is killing me... cannot make it through a day, I have put my screen on auto which seems a lot dimmer than set to 40 or 60%. All I do is play some solitaire, check mail a lot, a little bit of net, maybe 30 minutes of calls (tops) a few txt msgs, with maybe 2 hours or slightly more of screen time.
External speaker is embarrassing... tried showing a video to a friend with an iphone and felt like flushing the damn phone after he did the same.
Data connectivity is still hit and miss... one minute I have 4 bars of 4G and the next I have none.
I am on (details in sig) 4.0.4 (Craig Gomez version) with the newest radios. The device is a serious work tool for me so I really don't have the time to try different ROMS or kernels all the time... I need it always ready for calls, emails and occasional RDP or Logmein sessions .
For those of you have actually tried many/experienced in the world of various ROMs & kernels... do you have a suggestion of what to do with my setup?
Between the battery and data connectivity I feel the phone is close to crap... my friends with Razors have none of these problems and I feel like I am ready to snap.
BTW... if you could be even more kind... if you have a suggestion on what to run, could you suggest a brief set of instructions... i.e. nandriod, full wipe, install this first that second...
Thanks for any and all help... I sure would like to come up with or remember a reason why I have this and not a razor max.
Do you have the latest radios? That will make a difference. I do know the speaker is weak. There's not much to do but for a volume hack, some roms have it enabled.
Id ask for a replacement phone if battery is that bad and you can't get a decent signal anywhere but other phones can. Sounds like a defective phone.
I've been using Android Revolution for about 2 weeks, and as for today, I don't think there's anything as good as it. It's just like stock, just a little bit faster. I have great battery life, 5 to 6 Hours of screen on time, AutoBrightness, sync on, wifi always on, etc, it's pretty good, you should give it a try.
I've also used AOKP (with FrancoKernel and with stock kernel), and even tho I liked all extra features, in my experience, with screen off, it drains battery a looot faster that stock/ARHD.
I used an app called equalizer to fix the speaker

Autobrightness will kill your battery more than a static 40 or 60%.
2 hours of screen on time seems normal for the Verizon Nexus.
Try the volume + app for your speaker problems.
There are some kernels that have sound boosts built in.
Signal drops means you should exchange the phone. Use the insurance.
Honestly if you hate the phone as much as it sounds, just get a different phone.

Perfect response.
Don't get me wrong... I in no way "hate" phone, if I did I would have gotten rid of it.
I'm frustrated not stupid.
I am amazed that Verizon hasn't done something about it... most of the buyers of this phone are not IT savvy rooters... my phone works a lot better than stock, I cannot imagine how frustrated someone on 4.0.2 would be.
Anyway... I am going to take it back to stock and return it... guess I will try it (the new one) out stock but I know I will want it rooted. Guess I'll try some of the suggested software\ROMS.
I wonder what a stock one is coming with these days?

My computer was messed up and I was pissed about my crappy battery life so I took my phone to the sprint store and told the guy about terrible battery life. He said they didn't have any complaints about that, which I find hard to believe, because it's pretty drastic. I asked him if he could flash me back to GB and they did. Flashing back to GB solved all my problems. Have great battery life, don't have problems with wifi connection, phone doesn't get really hot, it's no longer laggy, and the capacitive buttons don't freeze any more when the phone wakes up. What were they thinking with this update!

There have been so many people hating the ics update lately. Personally I tried that update on my girlfriends e4gt and didnt mind it much. I ran the Odin one click to FF18 for a while on this one as well. Battery life was not bad for me and really was decent compared to gb. Thats when I finally took it upon myself and went to a custom ROM. the Blu Kuban got me hooked. With my 3800mah extended battery and this ROM, I only charge once a day. And my phone never leaves my hands lol. Im glad you got the fix on GB though! Makes me happy knowing sprint actually helped a customer instead of pushing them to the side as they did to me a few times before.

I rarely can get 3 hours of screen on. I'm on ics aokp.
no matter what I do.
I think cause I turn on the screen so much for little periods of time it causes faster drainage but that's just my hypothesis.

"3800 mah battery" is why you get decent battery life. With a stock battery you would get half that, but your phone wouldn't be so hideous to look out. With so many complaining about battery life, it is safe to say that battery life is less and those who don't see it are either using their phone in an abnormal way out have poor attention to detail.

2.5 hours of screen time, that is consistent with others. The problem is, if you use your phone from unplugging to end of battery, you only get about three hours. With gb, screen on time was about six hours. Standby isn't the problem, it is when the screen is on.

I never once said anyone was wrong so I don't understand where that came from. I said I personally never saw more then 3 hours of screen on time with stock GB and I am not seeing it on stock ICS. I never use juice defender or anything. I have had 3 different E4GT and all have been consistent on battery at about 2.5 of screen on time.
Not saying anyone is a liar on anything I am just posting my results. My first 2 days with ICS were much worse then the battery life I got out of it yesterday. If I get similar results today I will take screen shots but like I said yesterday was my best battery life I have gotten on ICS.
My battery would drain 8% on my commute to work which is about 40 minutes and I wouldn't even touch it. On GB it doesn't even drop 1%. I tried everything on ICS. I even factory reset and hadn't downloaded any apps. The phone would also run a lot hotter when I was using it. On GB it never got hot unless I was playing a game or doing something CPU intensive on the phone. After going back to GB I haven't had any problems. Get twice the battery life and none of the other problems. I even tried the Odin with root ff18 and had the same problems.

ICS isn't written for our processor, cdma, or Wimax. Samsung has to port it to the exynos cpu and write a bunch of drivers for dead technology. They simply don't want to invest a lot of r&d on dead technology.

That's why i'm back on GB, they shouldn't release it for the general public if it is going to hinder the phone. The lag and the terrible battery life should have been enough to keep them from releasing it to the general public.

Well. Technically ICS isn't written for any phones processor, wimax,GPU or anything u less its a Google phone or one of the very very few that Android supports out of the box so to speak. Every OEM has to code it specifically for that device. So its a issue you're gonna have on just about every android phone outside the nexus series.

What's new in NF4? I know it has the VoLTE but that's not in my area so nothing for me(yet).
Are there any improvements?
I guess what I'm trying to ask is. What are the pros and con's of upgrading from NB4 to NF4?
I also run w03 slimkat. Is it compatible? It shows its compatible with 4.4 BL. Just not sure if that's updated to include NF4 BL.
thanks and sorry for being a noob.

I have no idea as to what exactly is "new" in NF4 but take it from me,
if there wasn't any improvements then why would Samsung waste their
time, money and effort with the NF4 or any other future updates?
There are no "cons" to upgrading NF4 or any future official updates.

Of course there can be cons. Thats a laughable statement. Until it's reported the update is fine, you can have broken root, locked down bootloader (not as likely on T-Mobile) a bad build that causes bad battery drain. You must be new to the phone rooting and roming world to say "There are no "cons" to upgrading NF4 or any future official updates"
I don't want any fights started. Please keep it casual.
With that being said. Yes there can be some pros and con's.
Like I said before I know that it includes VoLTE. That's the main feature. However That is not available in my area.
What I would like to know. Is there better internet connectivity? How's battery life. My biggest problem with T-Mobile in my area is it keeps dropping from H+ to 3G. 3G and below are like being in airplane mode. I end up having to disconnect and reconnect to get H+ back. Does NF4 fix this? If not Is there any tricks/mods to help with this issue. Or is it just ****ty network in my area?
and again I will continue to use W03 SlimKat. currently running V23 waiting on V25.
I'm looking for people who have personally updated there phone to NF4 and can give me details on how well its running.
Thanks

For me, battery performance increased noticeably and it seems like connectivity is better. At my house it used to always switch from 4glte to 4g and since the update it holds the lte connection better. Sunday morning there was a quake in the bay area and since then data has been weird. ..but up to that things where just buzzing along. I came from NB4 and like i said i noticed worthy improvements.
***BTW i did a full wipe in recovery, powered down, pulled battery, booted into download mode and odin'd the full firmware file, everything except External SD.

Thanks, Based on this information I have decided to go ahead and update to NF4. Running W03 SlimKat V24 sofar so good. Once Google gets done restoring my apps I will turn off WiFi and update this thread with my findings.
I know many people claim better battery life after updating to 4.4, but I don't see it. I just updated about a week ago from 4.3 (MI7) to 4.4 (NF4) and battery life is similar at best, but mostly worse. Not only that, but charging also takes much longer. Normally my battery would fully charge in about 2.5 hours, but couple nights ago it took 5 hours to go from 10% to 82%. I went back to sleep and finally was fully charged after additional 3 hours, but then as soon as I turn it on, went down to 97%. I never seen that before. I run 0228 code and discharged to 0 and then back to 100%, so hopefully that will calibrate battery better, but still just last night phone was at 100% before sleep and in the morning down to 80%. Normally on 4.3 I would loose 3% to 4% overnight. I just hope it's temporary and will improve after settling down, otherwise i will need to run some serious diagnostics and fix it. Antutu also seem slower, last time I run it on 4.3 I got 37083, under 4.4 I barely got 35000.

Not my experience at all. Battery drops maybe 2-3% overnight. Stays at 100% longer than it had and charges plenty fast from 1% to 100% way under 5 hrs, but i never really timed it yet i can say it was under 3 hrs and i remember being surprised at how quickly it got to 80' something percent. Every month or so I run my phone down to 1% just to help the battery cause I'm usually on a charger and rarely get below 50%. Maybe a good wiping might tune things up for you.

I believe you, you're not the first person claiming better battery. I don't want to wipe, too much headache to restore and settings and games in progress, also my kids are on my account, so either no automatic reinstall (BTW how do I stop it), or a lot of deleting kiddie games, already went with this process once before, not fun. Probably something simple, since I'm stock rooted and always been on my Note3.

yup, its a coin toss.....once I saw the stability that comes with full wiping I can't not do it, stopped me from being a flashaholic. Titanium Backup can backup/restore your apps but settings/shortcuts/widgets etc have to all be set back up....I take screen shots of all my home screens to aid the process of getting back to normalcy....gotta weigh the pros and cons
Hello,
I'm still using jellybean 4.3 worth the upgrade to Kit Kat?

That is extremely debatable, there are plenty of people who feel either way, i suggest reading what different people have to say to help base your opinion.

What code is this? I don't see it among the list of "secret" codes entered for Samsung devices.

it shows battery info, also there is a button on bottom, if pressed it changes battery charge level, so it was speculated it does some quick recalibration, but as with all other codes no one knows for sure. Sure this is in some secret code lists, but i don't think there is a list that have them all, otherwise they wouldn't be secret anymore. LOL
There were few threads about this code in past, but i don't remember where now.
Well sofar everything is great. Network still gets stuck in 3G and I have to airplane mode to get H+ again. However it seems like its not doing this as often.
Better life is the same which is good because battery life was awesome before the update.
I will update if anything changes.

That is exactly why I froze my updater and stayed on jb4.3.
Now that KK has been out for a while and should have bugs fixed, what are the pros for updating from jb to kk?
I didn't update for long time mostly because of SD card issues, which could be fixed, but needed root, but again, root would trip knox. Now that we can root without breaking knox, I finally updated. Personally didn't see much: people claimed better battery, for me is little worse, many claimed faster snappier response, I don't see that either, on the other hand, so far haven't seen any SD card issues neither, so didn't even need the fix yet. One advantage, I already made my first VOLTE, so it works and it's on in my area and you need KitKat for that.
Add to this probably few security fixes and some tweaks under the hood and probably that's it. IMO, the update did not fix any issues for me, except wifi calling that broke recently, but I didn't have any other issues as well, but at the same time the update didn't break anything major either, so it's pretty much wash, unless you need VOLTE.
Note 4 comes out in few weeks, so that was my backup plan in case update was messed up, but as it is Note4 needs to win my heart on it's own merits.

First semi reliable info! Let the countdown begin!
This is when the international versions will begin to receive the update. Look for AT&T (and the other carriers) to hold that update at least 3 to 6 months extra to add their bloat.

Exactly. So we can seriously expect a release date sometime this summer to late summer. That is, IF ATT decides to release the update at all.

Iove my note 4 (just came back from the LG v10) but my biggest mistake was buying the AT&T version.

Me too!
I'm happy with mine, too. I got so obsessed with flashing Roms on my first 3 galaxies that I finally got burnt out on it. Sure, root would be nice, but I'm fine with the device as is. But I also don't have some of the issues I see other have. I've got no camera problems and I regularly get about 6 hours of screen on time. So, I'm good.

That's quite a broad question but I'll try to give you details. I've disabled anything I don't use or that I know cause battery drain. There are several apps in the app manager that aren't "useable" apps, and they aren't in the app drawer, but cause significant battery drain - disabled without negative results. I switch between touchwiz and Nova Prime launchers (and have noticed no difference in battery drain). I keep things like wifi and Bluetooth disabled if I'm not using them. Auto brightness turned off. I keep location on but only on power saving mode unless I'm traveling out if town.
That's generally it, I guess...

It's a long list. It was easier to just screenshot them. In the bottom two you can see my battery stats. I unplugged this morning around 7:15 AM and I'm down to about 47% after 8 hours and 3.5 hours screen-on time.
Today, I've checked email several times, had several phone calls, plus I've streamed youtube to a chromecast for classes that I teach, and even played a couple games during lunch. I do have lots of other apps I use, too; about 4-5 pages worth in my app drawer. Working well for me.

Hi,
Will it be possible to update my device in another country that there is no AT&T services here. Last time in forum I saw some guys telling to use Kies to update and they said there are some pages but I couldn't find them either.
Can you help me to locate one of these pages, If exists; to be able to update my device automatically ? Everytime I update my device in my country I had to backup everything and put back again which is reallly painfull!

Geez, and I thought Verizon had a lot of bloat!
I jumped ship for a Nexus, but sprint is updating its note 4 to 6.0, so the info was accurate.
In other news, water's still wet...

Kies is one way, but it sometimes takes Kies a while to get the carrier-branded firmwares. (International firmware is almost instant on the other hand).
The fastest 2 ways to get the update would be to
1) use someone's activated ATT sim in your phone. Pop it in, boot up the phone, wait a few minutes for the sim to set itself up with your phone, then check for updates. Then download, install, and then put your original sim back in.
2) Use an Odin file. The only issue with this is that you most likely will have to start from scratch with your apps and settings. Be sure to back everything up first.
You'll also have to wait for the Odin files to be released by someone, but it'll be 100x sooner than Kies.
Edit: The latest 5.1.1 Odin files are in the first post here (you'll need all 4 files in the Dropbox link):

Seems like there´s some light at the end of the tunnel, at leat regarding Marshmallow update, let´s just hope it won´t take long for AT&T to do the same.
