[Q] "Move to SD Card" Function missing~! - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just bought a HTC wildfire and install severals apps.
After getting warning internal memory are low, I tried to move some (downloaded)apps to my SD card.
But sadly when I select the apps, "move to sd card"(or "move to phone memory") button are not there??? How come?
I tried installed Android Assistance, none of the apps under Moveable tabs have that function?
help please~!

1) your phone in non rooted.
Some apps like Facebook etc dont move to Sdcard. For that you have to increase internal memory by using ext 3 partition of your sdcard.
Put simply, you will need to Root your phone. But before that, do some research if u really want to do it.
Best of luck

[Q] Memory Storage issues and SD card Install

Hi
My phone recently received the O2 Froyo update and i have been enjoying it thoroughly. i have installed countless apps on it and as expected i started facing storage issues. I was surprised because i thought now all apps would be installed on SD card. Went in to Manage Apps section and all apps were installed on device RAM taking up any where between 10Kb to 8 Mb per each App.
Also found the transfer to SD card option. Decided to shift all apps to SDCard through this option. This did not solve my problem and its still showing the "phone storage is low alert".
What i noticed was an app that was taking up 8+mb on phone memory before transfer to SD card, only showed 200-300Kb size on SD card... Does this mean that the app is still on phone memory? should i wipe phone/SD card and install everything manually via PC?
Please help, i would like to hold on to the apps that i have on the phone.
Thanks.

when using the move to sd function on froyo, its only the apps .apk that is stored on the sd card... all the app data is still stored in the /data/data/ directory in the devices internal storage

So what is the solution?
There is no solution, you could root and flash a rom with apps2sd+

And you won't gain much more with that than with, for example, ModInstalllocation. I read that one guy reported that with app2sd+ only about 140 MB (of installed apps) went to sd card, while internal memory had been decreased by 120 MB. That's comparable with my results using stock Froyo a2sd + ModInstallLocation.
try deleting app's cache, click each app and delete the cache and then reboot phone.
You will only gain the space reclaimed by moving the dalvik cache to the ext partition.

So it will not help if i wipe/format and fresh install Apps from the PC? When i googled this some of the results showed i should be installing from PC for proper installation over SD card.
i havent found a solution yet
So any solution to storage issues? Such a shame to have a half empty 16Gb mSD Card installed and be running out of app space...
only solution Ive found is to buy a newer device with more storage space lol. Shame as I really like the Desire.
What will happen if memory gets low, will the phone slow down?

[Q] HTC EVO Internal Space Full.

Hi guys I've been messing around with my phone all day. I have been restoring my apps back onto my phone and all that good stuff. I finally fixed my phone and when I was restoring my phone it tells me that my internal space is getting full. How is that possible if I only have 2 apps from the market installed? Any ideas?
thanks!
try clearing cache of your apps. If you have root access, download cachemate and use that. you can also move apps to your SD card to free internal space.
hope this helps
edit: you can also try wiping your phone back to stock if you continue with these issues
Weird I uninstaled Google maps update and and I now have 45MB of internal storage. lol??
Im restoring my apps then going to move them to my SD. Whats a good program to move them?
actually now it's giving me the error again..lol 45mb storage left too. weird

If you are using a custom ROM and it supports it then apps2sd because you can actually go beyond the 512 MB limit, you can make it as large as your entire SD card if you like... of course it has a trade off: the card must be repartitioned before you can use apps2sd meaning that you need to copy your card over a computer, partition and then copy back your stuff.
I use and would recommend that you use froyo to move apps to SD card. You can also move apps from the SD card back to your internal memory.
You can move most apps to SD Card; but some apps you do not have the option to move to SD card, and must remain on internal phone storage.
Follow these simple steps to move / to know whether the app can be moved or not.
1. Open Settings -> Applications ->Manage Applications and tap on the app you want to move.
2. Tap on the box “Move to SD card”.
3. Now tap on “On SD Card” to know whether your app has been moved or not.
You can also move back the app to phone memory by tapping on application and then selecting “Move to Phone” option.

The thing is..I only have 2 apps installed from the market and it's saying my internal memory is full. That just doesn't make sense.
Sprints stock ROM will give you a low storage warning when you have less than 45MB free space which I think is a little high. Thank god for apps2sd.
do you use the stock HTC mail app? if you do, try this: when you delete mail in the stock HTC mail app, it doesn't delete it, but just moves it to the 'Trash' folder? I've just cleared 6Mb that accumulated of the last month or so myself...
if all else fails, you might have to factory reset the evo.
thanks for all the help. so i needed up booting in recovery and clearing everything now it went to like 300mb and im restoring my apps. do you think i should put them on my SD card?
I would put what you can on your sd card...you can always move them back to the phone if needed

curious to know what caused that low memory problem in the first place? that's just weird.
i am not sure what causes the memory leak; but others i know with evos have had the same issue and a factory reset has solved the issue every time. good luck!

[Q] apps to sd how and why?

I have a question how do I install apps to SD card?
Why should I do it and what apps?
Are you rooted? I'm pretty sure that you can only move apps to the SD card if your rooted. And it's called Apps2Ext or something like that, you can only use it if your rooted(from what I know atleast.)
Easy.
There is an app in the market called "App 2 sd",this app automatically selects the apps that you can move from the phone over to your sd card. As for why you would want to do this well, for one thing and mainly by doing so you free up valuable space on the phone it self.Do your self a favor & pick up @least a 16gb sd card it makes life a whole lot easier. Hope this helps.

I was going to say that but isn't that just for rooted phones? Or is Apps2Ext only for rooted phones?
Your G2 has Froyo, which allows apps to sd without being rooted. If the app developer allows it, you can move the apps you choose to the fat32 partition of your sd card.
All you have to do is go to settings>>>applications>>>manage applications>>>click on the app of your choosing, then you will get the option to "Move to SD card"
Once you click on that, it will automatically be moved to the SD card. To confirm, in the manage applications page, you will see "On SD card" on the top right corner. Click on it, and you will see which apps have been moved.
Apps to SD is used basically just to save space. On older phones, like the G1, you could only install about 30 apps before the phone memory started to get full. They made apps2ext to fix this low memory problem once you had a rooted phone. Froyo fixes the need to even root the phone to get apps on the sd card.
Honestly, the G2 has plenty of space for me that I do not need apps to sd. I really only see the need for anyone to utilize this on the vision phones if you plan on having hundreds of apps installed.
Hope this helped.
it is helps a lot thank you. I thought the reason to tho apps to memory card list to make phone run faster
It actually runs slower to have the apps on the sd card. That was the one downfall of apps2ext on the G1, especially when you ran sense roms because a lot of things were run on the ext parition and were dependent on running from the sd card for it to work.
It is better to run them all on the phone memory, if at all possible, IMHO.

This is a BS version of A2SD. /.android-secure won't let you back your apps up the way /system/sd/app and /system/sd/app-private will, and the apps on the FAT32 partition won't start up on boot.
I hope the real A2SD is incorporated on Gingerbread builds.

if its a widgets, u cant move it to sd as it will dissappear if u restart ur phone..
You have to have 2.2 or above to move apps to sd.
If you do, go to settings, applications, manage applications. when you click on the applications, you will find a button that says "Move to SD". If the button is white in color, you can move the app to sd if not then can not.
RTFM!!

[Q] Galaxy S4 mini Apps to SD

I just bought a Galaxy S4 mini and my apps can not be moved to my SD card. Basically, the application manager is missing the 'on the SD card' tab. So I read that there will be a software update for the galaxy s4. It should be an update for the galaxy s4 mini right? I do not want to root it, as I had enough with rooting/roms and stuff like that. The stock software seems to be more stable anyway.

Try to tap on an app in Application Manager, there should be 'Move to SD card' button (in Storage section). Just tap it and the app is moved, however this does not move the app data.
I rooted mine and still cant fully move Alps. Tried titanium backup app2sd. Link2sd. None of them work. I guess its this emulated storage thing?
Is there no easy way to work around it or will it likely be fixed when custom roms start appearing?

A software update from Samsung does not necessarily mean that they will provide the functionality for moving apps to the SD card.
At the moment, only apps which support moving their data onto the SD card will show a "Move to SD" button in the App Info pane of the application.
Even when they show the button it only moves a small portion of it.
I was thinking more of when cm is out for it. I'm guessing this emulated storage thing is not limited to s4 mini and somehow its a case of making mmc the install location over the internal space
Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk 2
Yes it's not limited to the S4 mini. That's why it's a popular feature in custom roms as many stock roms do not allow installation of apps on the external SD.

If you are rooted, you can move the app to SD via standard 'Move to SD Card' button in App section and then use FolderMount (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192122) to "move" the rest of the app data that is not moved by 'Move to SD Card' function. It works for me on my I9195.
Some users also say that GL2SD works for them (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp&hl=en) on S4, so it might also work on the mini.
