Found this in general. For future. When searching Google, type xda and the search you want. It'll filter for xda threads related to your search.

Try this:
1. Enter the following into the dialer: *#197328640#
2. From the menu that appears choose
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF >
(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back,
now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ .....
wait for a minute then reboot your phone...
There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull....
just reboot your phone....
Good luck and be careful when doing this.

Aren't you forgetting that this is the Q&A thread?
The guy had a question and I had the answer, if not for all the questions and
answers here this would not be a Q&A thread.
Hey I got a great idea, why not start your own "LINKS Q&A"" thread here, I bet it would be very popular. LOL

I am trying to get my ATT Note 2 i317 unlocked. It looks like there are 2 ways to do it. Cable unlock vs. code unlock.
I have code unlocked phones before, and it works fine. Looks like the cable unlock is a hack to the same end. It is a cheaper way.
Does anyone know if the cable unlock is a good way to unlock, or if there may be consequence? Is it worth saving the $15?
Thanks.
Sim unlock ? Check the recent threads for a phone code to bring up internal unlock. Seems to be working well for many people. And its free!

ROM, modem version? It's difficult to help with no knowledge of your device. Here is a thread for this method though that most likely answers these for you.

ROM is stock. though I rooted it. baseband version is i317ucalj2. thanks
The cable method is slightly sketchy, because you will be giving a stranger complete access to all personal information on your pc and phone. If you trust the person, or can verify their reputation, why not?
If you are with AT&T and are in good standing, you can ask for your unlock code for free. It takes two days or less to get it.
But you have the correct modem installed (J2) to perform the above listed steps. If you followed them you should be unlocked. You would have to verify it by using another carrier's Sim card.

Will this method also work on a stock Note 2 i317? I have searched for two days now for a way to unlock my Note 2 with no luck.
It fails for me too. That code just gives me an error "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
It's an ATT note 2, GT-N7105. I'm running Liquid smooth 3.2 with the kernal that comes with the rom. The baseband is I317UCUBMJ. I don't get it.
The modem (baseband) has to be J2. It's the only firmware with the unlock menu.

Thanks, I know the modem is really old. It's the only thing I've never been comfortable flashing. I guess I'll update that tonight too.

Hello,
is there a way to sim unlock a N7100 for free? I have just got it with 4.1.2. I have seen the unlock method with 4.1 but to be honest i am a bit scared to downgrade it since there are so many reports about bricked devices with this version.
So far i have rooted the phone but i need to sim unlock it for a overseas trip.
TIA
edited... nevermind.
I took the rist and flashed the stock rom with 4.1.1 which i get confirmed in the "about this phone" section
I still dont have the option to unlock it
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF >
When i enter the menu i dont have "UMTS" nor "Perso SHA256 OFF"
Any idea what to do? I have heard i need to downgrade the radio now too? Could anyone tell me which one for a tmobile - austria device
Come on guys, someone must know something about. So far i have found galaxsim unlock. Problem is that i have got no credit card and the play store morons dont accept paypal...

Give it a try, cannot hurt anything.
Good luck!
Try doing that on a stock rom as well just to be sure. Also, if you don't have the slightest idea what you are looking at in those menu's, best to just nevermind.

hey guys, i tried this method on i317m from rogers,
'Note: your phone must be running at least Jelly Bean 4.1.1 (if 4.1.1 does not work, try 4.1.0) otherwise some of the menu choices are not present
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!! There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull.... just reboot your phone....
To test, just insert a sim card from a different carrier/provider. If the new sim card works then your phone is now unlocked.
I have done this to my other Note 2 N7105 originally locked to Orange.....'
the problem is when i press menu and go back one step, there isnt any option 4 for me to press, how can i solve it? i tried couple times, its from rogers... thx in advance!
Only works in 4.1.1 not 4.1.2. You will need to downgrade or flash the 4.1.1 radio.

I have this phone I want to unlock for my carrier (T-Mobile)
AT&T gave me an unlock code that did not work. We tried it more than 5 times and AT&T says that it is permanently locked to AT&T.
Is there a way that I can get this phone unlocked?
Thanks.

Unlock your Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2 and Ruby. Free. No Rooting. No Hacking.
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu
[1] UMTS
[1] Debug Screen
[8] Phone Control
[6] Network Lock
Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF
(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in
[6] Network Lock then choose
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone
I tried the instructions from the link you gave me, however when I wait the 30 seconds and select "back" I do not get the option
"[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ". What I get is [4] RAT_FREE_SUPPORTING ON

It doesn't work on 4.1.2. Make a backup, then use Odin to go back to 4.1.1, then unlock using this method, then upgrade back to 4.1.2 and/or restore backup if you wish.

I have finally come to that decision through my research. My issue now is finding the right version of Odin (I think 3.07 is the latest) and the correct version of 4.1.1 for my phone.
yes is very nice solution

Worked perfectly. Stock Bell SGS3.
Now, it wasn't stock to begin with - I was running Task650's AOKP on it. Of course the instructions didn't work on that so I flashed a stock Bell ROM onto it then it worked perfectly. Phone unlocked on the first try.
Some of the menu items weren't exactly in the same place but they had the same names so no problems finding them.
Thanks!
