I have this phone I want to unlock for my carrier (T-Mobile)
AT&T gave me an unlock code that did not work. We tried it more than 5 times and AT&T says that it is permanently locked to AT&T.
Is there a way that I can get this phone unlocked?
Thanks.

Ok, this might be a stupid question, but did u use the menu button and go back from there, or just hit the arrow back button on the bottom of your phone???
Are you on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2?

It doesn't work on 4.1.2. Make a backup, then use Odin to go back to 4.1.1, then unlock using this method, then upgrade back to 4.1.2 and/or restore backup if you wish.

I have finally come to that decision through my research. My issue now is finding the right version of Odin (I think 3.07 is the latest) and the correct version of 4.1.1 for my phone.
yes is very nice solution

Worked perfectly. Stock Bell SGS3.
Now, it wasn't stock to begin with - I was running Task650's AOKP on it. Of course the instructions didn't work on that so I flashed a stock Bell ROM onto it then it worked perfectly. Phone unlocked on the first try.
Some of the menu items weren't exactly in the same place but they had the same names so no problems finding them.
Thanks!

I am trying to get my ATT Note 2 i317 unlocked. It looks like there are 2 ways to do it. Cable unlock vs. code unlock.
I have code unlocked phones before, and it works fine. Looks like the cable unlock is a hack to the same end. It is a cheaper way.
Does anyone know if the cable unlock is a good way to unlock, or if there may be consequence? Is it worth saving the $15?
Thanks.

ROM is stock. though I rooted it. baseband version is i317ucalj2. thanks
The cable method is slightly sketchy, because you will be giving a stranger complete access to all personal information on your pc and phone. If you trust the person, or can verify their reputation, why not?
If you are with AT&T and are in good standing, you can ask for your unlock code for free. It takes two days or less to get it.
But you have the correct modem installed (J2) to perform the above listed steps. If you followed them you should be unlocked. You would have to verify it by using another carrier's Sim card.

Will this method also work on a stock Note 2 i317? I have searched for two days now for a way to unlock my Note 2 with no luck.
It fails for me too. That code just gives me an error "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
It's an ATT note 2, GT-N7105. I'm running Liquid smooth 3.2 with the kernal that comes with the rom. The baseband is I317UCUBMJ. I don't get it.
The modem (baseband) has to be J2. It's the only firmware with the unlock menu.

Is there a method to unlock the Rogers SGH-i317m
Thanks
First, sorry if sim unlock has already been achieved. I searched every where and couldnt find a solution. I have a galaxy S3 T999 US version. I was able to sim unlock my device by doing a couple of things.
I downloaded and odined a rooted 4.1.1 stock found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
I then booted up the phone after it was finished and did an ota software update.
I the followed these instructions found here on xda:
Go to dailer screen. press *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!! There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull.... just reboot your phone....
To test, just insert a sim card from a different carrier/provider. If the new sim card works then your phone is now unlocked.
Please note that until i installed the rooted stock 4.1.1 rom and did an ota update some of the above options were not available so i was not able to attempt the sim unlock. Also, after you do the ota update, you will lose root, but you will be sim unlocked. You can try odin the rooted stock 4.1.1 and before doing an ota update try the steps first to see if the menu options are there, i never did, so i dont know.
If this works for you, please post back

As long as you are running the stock software you will continue to get software updates. There are no downsides to unlocking your device - T-Mobile does this for you regularly if you call them and request an unlock code, this just gets around that completely.

Yep. It would say 1 if you're locked but that's not guaranteed.
Out of curiosity are you on 4.1.2? Because you need to be on 4.1.1 (UVDLJA or UVDLJC) for this to work - I'm not sure if its tied to the radio or not so I would just backup your 4.1.2 and ODIN the stock 4.1.1 image from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687

ODIN doesn't require root privileges, you have to put yourself in download mode and it flashes. If you don't have ODIN experience, I would just call T-Mobile and ask for the code, explaining you are taking a trip overseas. They will most likely give it to you. ODIN is a low-level tool and you can soft or even hard brick your phone with it if you don't know what you are doing.

Step 10 - After the phone has booted up fully and Odin Passes the device, Power off the device and perform a factory reset. (Volume Up + Home Button + Power Button.) Select Wipe data/Factory reset and press the power button. Select YES -- delete all user data. Select reboot system now.
Step 11 - Once the device is booted up fully follow DaveenJay's Steps again. (Of Course with my twist.)

Do not attempt this downgrade if you have upgraded to the official 4.3 ota. It will brick your phone.

Once done you can upgrade to any firmware you want as it is a permanent unlock. Also if you downgrade from 4.3 i dont see why it would brick, but if the admin says so then i believe it.
You should probably put a large RED warning in the first post that if they down grade from 4.3 to 4.1.1 to unlock they will hard brick. Specifically flashing the 4.1.X bootloaders cause the brick.
also on 4.3 this appears to work and retains sim unlock SHA256 OFF

I know this thread doesn't really concern 4.3 users, But i am unable to unlock with the 4.3 method ending with run EFS SYNC. And PERSO SHA256 Info states: SHA256_ENABLE_FLAG [0]. Do I need to do it with My New SIM removed? Im using a Stock Rooted I747m(Canadian so Identical to AT&T). Thanks in advance for any help!
Does not work on i747M running 4.3 Rogers stock

I just tried this as well and it does not work for me (i747M running 4.3 Rogers stock). The SHA256 is also 0 for me, but the SIM is still locked.

Okay so first follow DaveenJay's Steps on "How to Unlock Your Samsung Galaxy S3 & Note 2 (No Rooting)" But with this twist.
Step 1 -
Dail *#197328640#
Main Menu
[1] UMTS
[1] Debug Screen
[8] Phone Control
[6] Network Lock
[3]Perso SHA256 OFF
(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock
Step 2 - Backup your data, I'm not gonna make a guide for this, there already a few on google if you just do some research. (Or just back up to Google. ( I did not as this was a customers new phone.))
Step 3 - Download Odin 3.07 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1168422&d=1341114468
Step 4 - Download firmware 4.1.1 for i747 http://samsung-updates.com/details/5672/Galaxy_S_III_LTE_AT&T/SGH-I747/ATT/I747UCDLK3.html
Step 5 - Extract the Firmware to the folder of your choosing
Step 6 - Put your device into download mode. (Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button) Then press Volume Up.
Step 7 - Plug your phone into your computer. Let all drivers download.
Step 8 - Open Odin 3.07
Step 9 - Click "PDA" and find the firmware 4.1.1 for i747. let it extract then click start.
Dial *#197328640#
Main Menu
[1] UMTS
[1] Debug Screen
[8] Phone Control
[6] Network Lock
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ. Wait one minute then power off the device.
Step 12 - Insert your New sim card, and power back on your device.
Step 13 - Rejoice Your Device is now Unlocked and you deserve Pizza!!!!

I did mine a long time ago. After reading quite a bit you may be right for the time being. The best I have found without a risk of a brick is this:
There is a lot of confusion about unlocking in this thread and elsewhere. Your S3 can still be unlocked after the 4.3 update, just keep in mind that most threads either have inaccurate information or miss essential steps.
Unlock codes and procedures often change or play musical chairs in major software updates. Prior to the problematic 4.3 update you could unlock your S3 with the cited procedure in this thread. This is a permanent unlock and would survive firmware changes. This only applies to touchwiz ROMs e.g. North American factory ROMs or custom ROMs that preserve the dialer codes. This unlocking procedure is also distinct from the carrier specific unlock codes or commercial unlockers who either have access to the official database or have figured out the key algorithm.
If your phone has not taken the 4.3 update yet:
Install the 4.1.1 stock touchwiz ROM and use this procedure to unlock. You can then revert back to your favourite firmware version after your phone has been unlocked.
Dial the following code on the phone keypad: *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF
After choosing this option, wait 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select back
Now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALIZE
You should see a message that says
SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG[0]
SHA256_OFF => Not Change
Choose [1] SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG
Wait 30 seconds, then press Menu > Back. Do not use the back key, choose back from the menu popup.
You should now see a message that says
MENU NOT EXIST
PRESS BACK KEY
Current Command is 118640 (if you don't see this message.. skip to alternate step below)
Note that the exact Command number may vary.. don't worry about that.
Wait another 30 seconds, then press Menu > Back. Do not use the back key, choose back from the menu popup
You should see a message that PERSO_NV_INIT is processing, then PERSO_NV_INIT is SUCCESSFUL
Now return to the SHA256 menu and turn Perso SHA256 back on
Back our of all menus and enjoy your unlocked S3
Alternate step. If you didn't receive the MENU NOT EXIST message, then use the back option in the menu popup until you see a menu what includes [6] Common.
Click on [6] Common and choose [6] NV REBUILD
You should now see a message that says:
Golden-Backup exist
You can Restore Cal/NV
Choose [4] Restore Backup
Your phone may freeze or change screens briefly, then should reboot
If you run into errors, look at this link for advice on how to proceed: How to unlock.. (techbeasts.com)
Enjoy your unlocked S3
If you have the 4.3 update:
Now you know that updates are evil or at least mess up your plans.
The unlock procedures have changed somewhat now and it seems that there are now several alternate procedures depending on your carrier.
Gambit #1
If you tried the above and got half way to find that menu item [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALIZE was missing, then try the following. Note that menu item [4] may also be missing if your phone is already unlocked. So you might want to try a SIM from another carrier to confirm whether your phone really needs to be unlocked.
Dial the following code on the phone keypad: *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF
After choosing this option, wait 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select back
Now you are in [6] Network Lock and presumably you now find that there is no [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALIZE menu item
If so, then press Menu > Back. Do not use the back key, choose back from the menu popup.
Now this is the step that most threads miss, tap on SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG.
This item may look like a message rather than a menu choice i.e. may not be enumerated. Tap it anyway
Now you may see one of several things.
If it appears that you are back to the starting menu, choose [1} UMTS again and follow the original steps and you should find that the missing menu item is now present, although it may be labeled NW Lock NV Data INITIALIZE or NV REBUILD. Or you may find yourself on a page that already has the initialize or rebuild option.
In either case, choose INTIALIZE or REBUILD, followed by the remaining steps as originally described.
If you get a message asking you to reboot your phone to finish, then do that instead of the remaining steps.
I'd recommend that after you are done that you return to the service menu again and ensure that SHA256 was re-enabled. The SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG should = 1 (not 0). If the flag status is 0, then choose the Perso SHA256 ON option.
Enjoy your unlocked S3
Gambit #2
If the above does is still missing key menu items on your phone, then try this alternate dialer code:
*#27663368378#
And then proceed as before.
However, if you encounter the following message:
Golden-Backup exist
Then follow the procedure in this link instead: How to unlock.. (techbeasts.com)
Enjoy your unlocked S3
Gambit #3
If you still have a stubborn phone, try the following dialer code
*#0011#
This will look like an informational screen with no menu choices.
Don't fear, the menu you want is just hidden. Continue with the steps in this link: How to unlock.. (unlockfaq.com)
Enjoy your unlocked S3
Oh no.. that didn't work either!
If all else fails, contact your provider and tell them that you will be traveling in elsewhere e.g. Europe and need to have your phone unlocked. Most carriers will provide you with a network (carrier) unlock code in this situation. Typically without charge, but it will vary by carrier. Or you can avail yourself of a commercial unlocking service. Google will find a googol [sic] of them for you.
Note that you need to insert a valid, non-blacklisted SIM from another carrier to be prompted to enter a network unlock code. It need not be active, just not blocked i.e. reported as lost /stolen. If you have any difficulties entering the code, have a look at this link.
Good luck

I know the bootloader is locked in 4.3 but is the modem? maybe you could downgrade to the 4.1.1 modem and then unlock and reflash your 4.3?

indeed we just need a brave user to try it risking his phone's life. or someone more knowledgeable than me that already knows the answer.

In another thread, an XDA member had a stock 4.1.1 ROM (modem too) running on a 4.3 bootloader and the required menu options for unlocking the phone were not present which leads me to conclude that you need to be completely stock 4.1.1, including the bootloader.
