I am trying to get my ATT Note 2 i317 unlocked. It looks like there are 2 ways to do it. Cable unlock vs. code unlock.
I have code unlocked phones before, and it works fine. Looks like the cable unlock is a hack to the same end. It is a cheaper way.
Does anyone know if the cable unlock is a good way to unlock, or if there may be consequence? Is it worth saving the $15?
Thanks.
Sim unlock ? Check the recent threads for a phone code to bring up internal unlock. Seems to be working well for many people. And its free!

ROM, modem version? It's difficult to help with no knowledge of your device. Here is a thread for this method though that most likely answers these for you.

The cable method is slightly sketchy, because you will be giving a stranger complete access to all personal information on your pc and phone. If you trust the person, or can verify their reputation, why not?
If you are with AT&T and are in good standing, you can ask for your unlock code for free. It takes two days or less to get it.
But you have the correct modem installed (J2) to perform the above listed steps. If you followed them you should be unlocked. You would have to verify it by using another carrier's Sim card.

Will this method also work on a stock Note 2 i317? I have searched for two days now for a way to unlock my Note 2 with no luck.
It fails for me too. That code just gives me an error "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
It's an ATT note 2, GT-N7105. I'm running Liquid smooth 3.2 with the kernal that comes with the rom. The baseband is I317UCUBMJ. I don't get it.
The modem (baseband) has to be J2. It's the only firmware with the unlock menu.

Hi guys, you can unlock you N7105 via the Samsung hidden menu. [Also works with N7100 and some Galaxy S3 (SIII) variants - NOT ALL]
=======================================
Before doing the instructions below, please double check your phone that it is actually LOCKED by inserting a sim card from a different carrier/provider...
Quote:
Unlock your N7105:
Note: your phone must be running at least Jelly Bean 4.1 otherwise some of the menu choices are not present
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!! There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull.... just reboot your phone....
To test, just insert a sim card from a different carrier/provider. If the new sim card works then your phone is now unlocked.
I have done this to my other Note 2 N7105 originally locked to Orange.....
========================================
Do this procedure AT YOUR OWN RISK
========================================
To those who were able to unlock their phone with the method above, can you please post in the thread and let us know which phone model (N7100 or N7105) you have, Country and Network/Carrier your phone was locked to...... and if I have saved you some cash, please click the Thanks button or the Donate button on the left just below my name to buy me a can/bottle of Heinekken, Quilmes, Budweiser, Fosters, Tiger, Stella Artois, or San Miguel ...
========================================
I have mentioned in my old thread that there was a pop up message that says "Conditional call forwarding active" everytime I make a phone call using another SIm card that the phone was not able to use before unlocking.
I can confirm that this was due to my Sim card. It is a very old O2 sim card that I have used for years. I have tried that Sim card on another factory unlocked phone (Galaxy i8160 bought from P4u) and it had the same message.

I could be wrong but I believe it would still be legal if the phone was bought before the law went into effect. At least that was my interpretation.

Some people believe that you still need to get permission from the carrier to unlock the phone to switch to another service even if your contract is over.
Here's a link to the docket for you legal buffs/lawyers who want to translate it for us:

Frankly, it's not going to stop people, and it's going to take a lot for cell phone companies to enforce such a thing. There are people out there, such as Craigslist, who buy new phones and renew their contract, but continue using their old phone and simply turn around and sell their new phone at full price.

As long as you are running the stock software you will continue to get software updates. There are no downsides to unlocking your device - T-Mobile does this for you regularly if you call them and request an unlock code, this just gets around that completely.

Yep. It would say 1 if you're locked but that's not guaranteed.
Out of curiosity are you on 4.1.2? Because you need to be on 4.1.1 (UVDLJA or UVDLJC) for this to work - I'm not sure if its tied to the radio or not so I would just backup your 4.1.2 and ODIN the stock 4.1.1 image from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687

ODIN doesn't require root privileges, you have to put yourself in download mode and it flashes. If you don't have ODIN experience, I would just call T-Mobile and ask for the code, explaining you are taking a trip overseas. They will most likely give it to you. ODIN is a low-level tool and you can soft or even hard brick your phone with it if you don't know what you are doing.

Nah it doesn't hurt anything.
i have the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-I747. the phone is already unlocked so i know it should accept foreign sims but it doesn't recognize any sim i put in it. so far ive used 3 different simple mobile sims and none of them have worked. i called AT&T to find out if my IEMI was blocked or blacklisted but they said no, the phone should be working perfectly. plus weird thing is, i get the signal bars next to the battery as if the sim is working but it still says "No Sim. Insert Sim Card"
the phone is rooted so i was wondering maybe that has something to do with it? the phone was working perfectly fine until i rooted it. the specs are:
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: I747UCLEM
Kernel Version: 3.0.31 - 274808
Build number: JRO03L.I747UCDLK3
please i am very desperate to get it working by tonight. does anybody know why my galaxy s3 won't recognize any simple mobile sim put in it? is there software im missing or updates i need? i already tried unrooting my phone, no luck.

yes the phone is unlocked. maybe i forgot to mention this earlier but it was using a simple mobile sim card perfect before i rooted it. i called AT&T international and they gave me the unlock code after i asked. i didn't need it tho because they told me if it wasn't unlocked, after i put the foreign sim in, it would prompt for the unlock code but the phone never prompts for one, just says "No Sim insert Sim card", something along those lines. further more i was informed that if it wasn't unlocked, it would say "unrecognizable sim" instead of "no sim". the fact that it says "no sim" means it won't read the sim card. the thing is no matter what sim card i put it (i tried 3 or 4 different ones) the phone still says "no sim"
i tried changing the modem to every single one compatible with the SGH i747 model and nothing helped. i tried changing the modem to a Tmobile modem because i know simple mobile uses Tmobile radio towers but that didn't help at all. i deleted all the cache and unrooted the phone but that didn't help so i rerooted it again. i don't know im just extremely frustrated right now. i've spent hours on the interenet and called AT&T international countless times to try and fix it but they always tell me its the sim cards fault but i know its not because i've tried it in other phones and they work. i'm just looking for a miracle here.
oh i did try to flash a custom rom and kernel but it didn't work and i received an error message and rebooted it without tampering with the rom and kernel again. maybe that has something to do with it?
Try doing a kies factory restore mate.

You have to be on completely stock 4.1.1 for this to work...
Same Problem
Sadly to say I have the same problem but on a new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N900V. I bought it online and it was supposed to be factory unlocked but it doesn't work on Fido, koodo, or bell; so I am not sure if it is factory unlocked. It says No SIM on all three sim cards. I tried rooting and it is still the same. I don't know what's wrong but I tried contacting Verizon who is the carrier of the phone but you can't get help unless you have a phone plan with them. And then I want to be using this on koodo and they won't help you because the phone is not from them. I am going crazy, anyone know how this can be fixed.

Ok, this might be a stupid question, but did u use the menu button and go back from there, or just hit the arrow back button on the bottom of your phone???
Are you on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2?

Might have something to do with it. I was still on 4.1.1 when I did it back in May...

It doesn't work on 4.1.2. Make a backup, then use Odin to go back to 4.1.1, then unlock using this method, then upgrade back to 4.1.2 and/or restore backup if you wish.

Thank you.
I have finally come to that decision through my research. My issue now is finding the right version of Odin (I think 3.07 is the latest) and the correct version of 4.1.1 for my phone.
yes is very nice solution

Worked perfectly. Stock Bell SGS3.
Now, it wasn't stock to begin with - I was running Task650's AOKP on it. Of course the instructions didn't work on that so I flashed a stock Bell ROM onto it then it worked perfectly. Phone unlocked on the first try.
Some of the menu items weren't exactly in the same place but they had the same names so no problems finding them.
Thanks!
