So i had some crazy lag on this phone really was making me upset, so i keep reading a hard rest would help, well that did that trick , i do have air gestures off and all that other stuff and animations at .5x but before the hard rest it was really laggy now its a lot better by far. So if anyone getting any lagg issues try a hard reset. :good:

First, let me say that I've used roms on my e4gt from starburst, strongsteve, and calkulin, and they're all excellent work. I still have my lg g2x and I've flashed quite a bit on there, so I had a good point of comparison, and the work really is impressive. The other day, though, I flashed MIUI 112230 on the g2x (this isn't a plug for how cool MIUI is or anything), and I noticed a small performance tweak that seems to make all the difference. When I scroll side to side, the phone is ridiculously responsive. It knows I mean to scroll when my finger moves horizontally, even though it may be only the smallest flick sideways on the screen. On my e4gt, however, I have to flick or drag my finger across much more of the screen, and do so much more carefully, or else the phone may hesitate and stay on the same screen. I really don't believe it's a hardware problem, though (as the e4gt blows the g2x out of the water), so I'm thinking it's a problem devs here can fix. If anyone has the g2x with MIUI loaded, you can see what I mean, but hopefully from this description, it's clear enough.
I've played with all of the settings in ADW EX, TW4.0, etc...and I haven't been able to find a way to fix it on my own. So, any ideas? I'm hoping MIUI isn't the only answer, as I think perfect desktop scrolling can and should be a part of every rom, but of course, I don't know why it works so well on this one particular rom (on the g2x) and not others (any others that I've ever tried on any android).
Thanks for all your hard work and everything you do to make our phones the best phones on the market!

It's NOT related to widget use... loaded widgets on Miui and it's still transitioning perfectly between homescreens. The smoothness I'm talking about is really an enhancement for user experience, so I'd think we'd want to figure out what makes scrolling so smooth on that rom, while it's somewhat choppy on almost all others.
So I found this thread in the International section and its a neat little tweak. Should definitely give a try. Phone feels much snappier!

I don't know. I'm getting ~175Mflops on multi-thread Linpack scores, and no lag anywhere.
How much snappier does the thing need to be?? Seriously?
Edit: I tried the tweaks suggested in said thread, and yea, there's a slight (SLIGHT) increase in transition speed, but seriously if you blink you'll miss it. It's really that nominal.

Umm I dont know , I could definitely see a lag when I was returning to my home screen or while pulling up the Recent Apps List. This tweak fixed that.
P.S. I am on STOCK ROM btw, so I dunno if this issue crops up in any of the rooted devices/CUSTOM ROMS.
Ok guys i love Restaurant story but its way to laggy on a TW ROM, as soon as i go on a AOKP CM9, 10 the game runs smooth as butter but i love my TW but the game(s) run so laggy... Have you emailed this to the game's developers? I run a ton of games on my S3, all of them high impact, and they all run great, so this has to be an app-specific issue.
Lately I've been playing Asphalt 7, Dead Trigger, ShadowGun, Riptide GP, Ski Safari, Mini Motor Racing, Monsters Ate My Condo, and none of them have lag issues.
I just picked up a used S3. My contract is up in Sept and wanted to see if I like the android better the then iphone. I have been generally happy with the Iphone once I jailbroke except the really for vibration mode and missing calls and messages. Also missed the openess to get into files and move stuff around like pictures music and videos. I had a galaxy Captivate 2 years ago that was rooted and was pretty happy to get the iphone because everything just worked smoother and less little issues. Now fast forward 2 years and I was pretty excited to get into the a S3 and see all the improvements. Gotta saw pretty disappointing. This phone feels way to close to the captivate of years ago. It is relatively smooth going thru screens and such with Nova launcher. Apps open fast and don't crash. But in most menu screens and certainly many internet screens, it is just not smooth scrolling to down right heavy choppy. And I enjoy a few games that have great graphics. Real Racing 2 and 3 and even some other more less graphic intense once. Pretty disappointed that they are noticeably not as smooth including tiny pauses. Honestly maybe no better then the captivate and daughters Lg Thrill. All super smooth on the iphone. And ideas would be greatly apprieciated. I really want to love this S3 but already just living with it. It has the latest update of 4.1.1. Thanks

For your browser issue, try Dolphin Beta.
For games like Real Racing, it wasn't made for the S3, therefor, it can't achieve full gfx. A fix to the choopyness would be to look into custom ROMs (Either TW or AOSP based). If it's something that interest you, you have a lot of reading to do before jumping into it but once you understand how it works, it's fairly simple.

Some possible changes to make:
1. for browser, I use the AOSP browser because it is superior in speed and usability to any other browser I try
2. you could switch to another AOSP rom that will have less bloatware and no skin on top of it slowing it down (this will be slight change)
3. to fix laginess on certain points you can try flashing a different kernel with various tweaks that increase butteryness
4. root and overclock the minimum cpu frequency. While this won't help with graphics too much in games (thats GPU), it will help with laggy transitions. Be forewarned, this might decrease battery life depending on what you end up changing the minimum to
If I have helped, slap that thanks button please
Thanks for the quick reply. I did try different browers and did settle on the dolphin. It really seemed very little better then the stock browser but the stock browser has the RRS reader pop up in the bar if applicable and I like that feature like the iphone. Some of the choppy webpages are also somewhat choppy on an iphone too. just not as bad. I was hoping to not get into rooting and Roms and figured a stock S3 should be plenty good now. When you say that the games are now programmed for the S3. are they not programmed for the S3 or Android in general. Do these costom roms adjust the programming somehow. I assume not too much issue to do the root but not familiar in detail of the Rom procedures. Would downloading the S3 toolkit from here be a good starting point. Jailbreaking the Iphone was stupid easy.

It's really easy, just gotta read and understand what you're doing before going into it.
Getting a toolkit can be a start. Although, you can skip that and download pre-rooted stock ROM for your carrier.
Here's a good guide to start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822308 - I would download GooManager from the market and install TWRP recovery instead of installing CWM recovery like that guide suggests. It's quite simple, just hit a couple buttons
Once you're rooted and have a custom recovery, you can install a ROM from the Dev section (TW or AOSP).
Thanks for all the input and direction to the thread on rooting and Roms. I am very good and can understand directions for this stuff just gets a little overwhelming researching this and seemingless see so many different methods with small variations and then through the word Bricking in too. I love to customize and make stuff my own so i'm pretty sure I will give this a try. Thanks
I am ready to give the rooting a try. I expected a little less confusion then what I'm seeing. I ran across the Casual tool which looked interesting as compared to the download drivers then odin and unziping files and such. As I looked over the list of computer systems I don't see Vista business listed. Will this be a problem. Also does it make a difference if ICS or jellybean. Thanks again

sorry to hear that you are on vista but it should do the job, my windows 8 even works fine. it doesn't matter which rooted stock rom you flash, but I would recommend flashing Jelly Bean rather than ICS just because well its newer
oh and for first custom rom, I would recommend, Carbon Rom nightlies, they are stable and smooth and have a lot of customization http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136846
I have the download and things are fine. Is there an advantage to hard reset anyway ?
Will the phone run any better?
just curious
thanks
It did for me. I did a cache wipe then a factory reset. It helped the battery life and got rid of the lag. Good luck
I installed Lollipop and ran it for a couple days. I thought my device was running fine however beginning with gingerbread I began doing resets with every major update, and I did one again for lollipop two days after the ota. I haven't noticed any big difference. Really. However I don't obsess over things like lag and battery life like others. There have been little bugs here and there, like smart lock not working but even that is no longer an issue (working now). Resets, while inconvenient, are good practice because the more you do them, the less daunting they seem. And if you're having major problems it's definitely a good idea.

Thanks, I went for it and dedicated the time to redo the phone. I compare it to Windows install
Thanks
