If you're rooted, delete the downloaded update file in/cache. Then accept the update....reboot timer should start and nothing happen,,,,Press home button and live happily ever after.
Least that trick worked on the OTA LJC and MA7 updates.

By following one of the many guides available, just make sure you use the right one for your model number. IE. Sprints Note 2 is SPH-L900, International model is GT-N7100, International with LTE is GT-N7105, etc to find your model number look in settings > about phone.

I did this by mistake and now I can't get the update even though I want it. How can I undo this and have phone download the update again?
OK, I think I figured it out. I found the update file in a backup I had done before clearing my cache. I restored the file to my /cache folder and told the system to update. It performed the countdown and rebooted into the recovery like it should have.
Now I've restored the stock recovery so I'm hoping that it will install the update next time it gives me the pop-up.

Heck, why even bother with unrooting and restoring the stock bootloader? Run the MA7 or MC2 all-in-one firmware zips in TWRP and install an MA7/MC2 ROM...you're not the only one I've heard of re-inventing the wheel like this.

I just wanted to make sure than an update is released, I'll know it. I am waiting for the 4.2.2 update. I read in another thread that if I hold my breath until I pass out, when I wake up, my phone will be updated. It hasn't worked yet so I'm obviously not doing it right.
In all seriousness, it was just something that wasn't right. I had already used run the MC2 All-in-One and it was working fine with the exception of the Build number, which still read MA7. That didn't bug me as much as the constant "you have an update" pop-up. My goal was to put the stock boot loader on so I could actually do the update for no other reason than to see if I could in anticipation of the 4.2 update. I got the stock boot loader back on but for reasons unknown to me, I hit the "clear cache/davlik" button, which wiped out the update. I had no idea it would do that. So when I got the countdown to reboot and no reboot on the update page... it just bugged me.
Fortunately, I was able to get the update file from a backup and place it back into the /cache folder. I then rebooted into the stock recovery and told the system to "Update from Cache". This ran the update without any problems. Root was regained using the Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. Now the build number also reads MC2, so that is a little bonus, and I still have root access. Who knows, maybe I'll put the recovery back on and try a ROM when I get home.
No functionality was gained from all this. All that was gained was knowledge as to how all this works. That's a good thing, isn't it?
Thanks for the reply.

Thanks, but that's the opposite of what I need. I'm currently rooted and want a stock rom back on my phone. It's the non-rooted ROM that I can't find.

Follow the rooting guide in the Android developement forum, then instead of flashing the rom first and then the Recovery, flash the recovery first.
Boot into it(volume down + power button) and choose the nandroid backup.

I downloaded the appropriate firmware from that site, but when I apply the update in recovery mode it does the following (the green text should be yellow, but I figured you'd like to be able to read it):

Tried Kies a few times. Not once has it been able to flash the device. It will download the required files, and typically it'll just stop at that point and error out. Once I saw it try to update the device, then go back to the downloading files and then just never go anywhere...
Of course, looking now in Kies, It doesn't even pull a current firmware version, it's just blank space where it should be..

I didn't even think to check that. I'll extract it now and attempt and post back with my findings.
So, flashing the stock rom from SamFirmwares worked great with Odin, no issues. I still have SuperUser installed on the device, but Titanium backup says that it can't get root privileges. My screenshot app works just fine still though, and my AT&T update failed. The download went fine, after it rebooted, the update went to "Preparing" and then "Update is failed" and it rebooted saying the update couldn't be installed at this time...
What on earth am I doing wrong?

yeah...the SU app is still there but it's functionality is obliterated. So if you are rooted and your device is needed to be serviced, just flash the non-rooted stock ROM (recommended samfirmware) and, you may need to factory reset to perform updates....hopefully this would do the trick

Do you have clock work mod installed? Can that be effecting you from getting your updates if you do?
I've been a long time lurker, first time post.
I have been running the official AT&T ICS release I927UCLH2, and was notified of an update for my phone from Device Management. I am now updated to I927UCLJ3 baseband. To my surprise, my keyboard backlight is now working. So far, everything looks good. There is no sign of this update on the Samsung ICS page. Maybe AT&T is just going to push it out and forgo Kies altogether? Who knows?

Seconded here. Do we have to remove CWMR in order to update from the new OTA update?
I just got a software push from AT&T for my Captivate Glide. After the restart, the keyboard lights now work! About phone says: Android v. 4.0.4. Baseband v. I927ULCLJ3. Build number IMM76D. I'll see if other things have been fixed like, ringtones that stop working and clock being x time slow. Both of which required a system restart

I reloaded the stock recovery from my LH2 install and tried the OTA update. It downloads the update but fails to install with an "Update Failed" after the reboot.
I never rooted my phone only installed CWM for the Keyboard fix and to backup with CWM. Wish I had never installed CWM now.
Just got off the phone with AT&T myself, the rep said it should be available on Kies, they want me to try the new firmware before they'll continue warranty procedure on my wife's glide.
Edit: Well it's not, but it should be soon I guess.
Second Edit: On phone with samsung, they say the update is still "on hold" on his system. At&t told me to call them if I needed help with the firmware update.
Thanks for the info. Kies kept crashing on me so could not try it and OTA says I need to way 24hrs to try again.
Will try Kies on a second computer.
Is there any way to reset the 24hour AT&T update time without erasing the data partition?

I might have to try something similar since Kies nows says that "You device does not support upgrading via Kies". Since I did not root my phone it must either not be happy with the flashes I have done to recovery even though I have flashed back to stock recovery or the Keyboard fix I did.
This blows.
does anyone know if i flash with a stock AT&T from sam firmware on a Rogers i927(r) will I be able to update to the new AT&T version on Kies ?

Success!!
Here are my steps:
1. Restore a backup I made with CWMR before when I first installed it before making any mods.
2. Reinstall stock Recovery before doing anything else.
3. Get OTA update even though less than 24 hours since I restored a previous point in time.
Doing the stock ROM was my second choice but since I had a backup at least most of my apps and settings were recovered.
Good luck!
2.3.6 phone says no OTA update. I'll try Kies later.

I found an odin flashable I927UCLH2.md5 and used it, and when into settings, about phone, software update, and it gave me an update and I'm downloading it right now.
The phone is now at I927UCLJ3. So AT&T can OTA push it instead of trying to force the phone to work with kies
I have my GN2 rooted (via toolkit), currently on LJC. Also have OTA Rootkeeper installed.
When I tried to accept the OTA update from Sprint, it downloaded (something), rebooted, etc. But the phone is still on LJC.
Checking for software updates now tells me that my software is current.
I've tried clearing the download cache and Google services framework, but the phone still thinks it's up to date.
What's the next, best step?
I don't really want to go the route of a custom recovery and flashing if I can help it.
Thanks

I had a similar setup and using OTA Rootkeeper worked for me. Maybe if you have Exynos Abuse, it is causing trouble?
To MA7
Try one of Garwyns MA7 One Clicks from your rooted LJC. They will get you on MA7 kernel, and updates (no Data or Full Restore). Modem flashed seperately.
I have this same problem. I actually got so frustrated I unrooted and did a factory reset. Even with a factory reset the update STILL doesn't work. I've tried a few times. It just reboots and fails half way through. I'm not sure what to do at this point and I'm tempted to just bring it to a sprint store.

when you were rooted did you uninstall any stock apps? this can cause update to fail. search qbking77 video on how to install update on GN2. again, complete update through Garwynns MA7 One Clicks. simple and flawless.
No removed apps on my side. I may look into the one click update, although I don't know that I favor a method that requires flashing radios separately.

That is correct. Even with the hidden root your binary counter is probably above 1. Try triangle away and then hide root again and then do update. If that doesn't work you may have to do what I did.
Ran triangle away, did the superuser root cleanup and unroot. Then install update then root again.

I decided to try cyanogenmod on my SGH-I747 but have had so many issues I would be happy at this point if I could just get a working phone again.
I started with a 4.3 OTA-updated phone. I rooted the phone, then tried to install the latest 10.2 ROM. I also tried 10.1. I used CWM: I would have preferred the latest version but the best I could find that was not an .img file (I used Odin) was in the 5.x range. In both cases I hit what I believe is a bootloader error ("assert failed: ... Status 7"). At this point the phone is wiped with no recourse. I attempted to install the stock boot image for the I747, but after doing so the phone will no longer boot.
EDIT: I am able to get to downloading mode. I am afraid to use it to install stock firmware b/c of a post I found here claiming that downgrading from 4.3 OTA (e.g., to 4.1) will brick the phone.

That appears to be the standard tutorial for rooting/flashing. I did it anyway, even though didn't the file you had me install before already root the phone? In any event, I ran CF-root and then I attempted to install CM 10.2 and it failed: "failed to verify whole-file signature." I believe that was the first error I hit in the beginning of this exercise. Additionally, now I get an error on the welcome screen that says "Unfortunately, SuperSU has stopped."

Thanks for the suggestion. I went back to the no-KNOX file you pointed out earlier. I assume that is the same type of file as the CF-Root so I assume I don't need to install CF-root anymore after installing the no-KNOX file. So now I follow the tutorial from your second response minus the root step. I no longer get the SuperSU error. However, I still can't load a ROM. I get the same "assert failed... getprop("ro.bootloader... Status 7" that I mentioned in my first post. When I googled this in the first round, I saw several posts saying it means I had a bad bootloader. That is when I tried to flash the stock bootloader, which nearly hardbricked the phone. Do the two files you initially posted include a bootloader file?

I'm worried about switching bootloaders. This post seems to indicate that doing so after I installed 4.3 OTA will brick the phone. Does anyone know if that is true?

ohh ho ho it's true alright. the new 4.3 bootloader, i'm guessing it is mjb, doesn't allow any downgrades. Downgrades of any kind will absolutely give you a nice, good brick. anyways do you understand how to go from 4.3 leaked to 4.3 official?

No idea. I went ahead and tried to install the I747UCDLK3_aio.tar.md5, which I hoped was a 4.3 bootloader (don't know how you are supposed to tell). The error I got was this was another failure--this time saying the package was for d2att and this is a d2spr. My phone is definitely not a sprint phone. Some posts say I have to update the build.prop file, but I don't know how I can do that before a ROM is even installed.

I realized that many of the errors I was getting seemed to be tied to cyanogenmod or stock. So I downloaded Hyperdrive and it installed with zero hiccups or errors. I have a working phone again.
Thank you for your helpful insights.

I downloaded hyperdrive from the official spot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106830. I wouldn't have minded going back to stock, but clearly that was not going to happen any time soon.

Zero issues. Worked great all day with no problems. Plus I am now able to tether and use the mobile hotspot, features that I couldn't get to work on the stock rom even with foxfi or similar apps.

then un-root
take update
then root
do I need to root the wifi mod as well?

well if you have the Latest Philz installed you can make the Back up then figure out how to unroot your phone completely then see if your phone will update and if it does just go back into Philz then re root your phone with the Re-root(SuperSU) option in the Philz Recovery settings then reboot your phone into the rom.....i know as nerds/geeks we want to find another way lol

thanks for helping me
I played around with the phone when I first got it, folks on here gave me steps on rooting and moding the wifi, which was a year ago.
is that an app called philz? if so where do I get it?
does philz run pre boot or while phone is on?
btw I have one of those custom pre boot apps do you need the name of that?

the link that you sent is for the s3 sph-l710 ?
after I have this it gives option to
backup data
then I un-root
do the update
then root
will I need to re-apply the sprint hotspot mod? I really like that it comes in handy
I will not lose data?

ok the philz install went smoothly
I used odin
strange the update notification is gone so I did a check for update, nothing happens
so I left it rooted till I get the notification again
I did not see on the philz cwm an option to un-root??
I am figuring my next steps will be
get the update message
un-root the phone (these two steps might be reversed un-root then wait for update message)
do update
then re-root with philz
verify my root and verify my sprint hot-spot mod still working if not reapply mod.
let me know if I am missing something, or is there a way to get that update?

I was thinking same thing strange, it was showing that way before I went to philz
that what got me on the need update road. I am thinking could it mean I am hacked or something?
sprint saying they are showing the sph-l710 on there side. Im not sure what is going on. I only mess around with phone when
I need to root which was a year ago, I installed cwm, rooted phone and sprint hot spot mod.
how do I manually install update?
can the philz block update?

i don't think it would but to update your phone to 4.4.2 you need to go to this screen (see screenshots down below) and manually make your phone search for the update
