I had been looking for one about a month ago, i came across a couple forums saying android cant actually use (iphone like)physical buttons because there's no place for it in the OS(something similar to that). Anywho, dont quote me i'm only a noob(and this is my 1st post).
But i ended up buying
thecellguru.com/Products/28106
and
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875979005
, both of which are pretty good. The alteclansing one is better, but if too much bass is a problem for you, i would suggest the former. Both have physical buttons, press for play/pause/answer, long press for endcall, double press for next track.
Hope this helped

Skull Candy may have some like the kind you are looking for.
A few years ago when I owned my BlackBerry, I had a pair of Skull Candy headphones that allowed me to answer calls, skip songs, and adjust the volume.
It's been a few years, but it is a possibility that they still make some like that.
Sent from my Inc using Nil's Business Gingersense. Now that's Incredible.
I use the Klipsh S4i
And they are pretty fine. The sound's quality is fairly good for headsets that price.
You also have controls which are fully operational with an iphone. For android devices, you can use the lecture, pause, next and previous song, answer calls. But you can't control the volume.
But your device's volume can probably be changed even if the screen's locked and off I guess. from within your pocket. I do that and it's really fine
hope it helps
Are they with those flat cables? I simply love flat cables just like the Beats have

It was cool, but I dont really use them like I hoped I would
I got a set but I've only played with them. It's a neat novelty but at the cost not really practical. If they were cents each rather than dollars I might use them more.
Just register your phone on Samsung.com and you'll get a 50% off coupon...buy your TecTiles with that. I have mine by the door to toggle WiFi, in the bathroom to launch Play Music, and by the toilet to launch YouTube.
I use mine a lot, but my only gripe is that the phone has to be on and unlocked in order for it to work...but its better than nothing I guess.
I have thought about putting one in the living room for guests to use to connect to WiFi without asking for the password.

There.....Meh....
I got them for 50% off, so the price was more of a non point for me. Honestly though, I've only used one of them and then sort of forgot about them. They're nothing you can't just do as well on the phone itself. Fun to show off for a second I guess.
I got 10 of them off eBay for under 11bucks but only found my self using 3 of them lol they cool to play with but i hardly find my self using it everyday lol

woah buddy, lighten up, lol. of course that was "an opinion", and mine obviously. sorry that I think having an NFC tag setup to launch YT when I'm taking dump is ridiculous. if you don't want conversations that are inherently going to have opinions, and possibly opinions that are not yours, don't post in a public forum, maybe?

no... just want to it things I would expect a phone to do. I'm not even sure how that statement is a "witty comeback", as it's contextually nonsense.
seriously, relax.
Not ubiquitous because people like you keep saying it isn't. Buy it, try it out...you may find something interesting that will intrigue another to do the same. My local mall uses NFC to give out free songs or magazine articles. What's a couple of bucks gonna hurt? You already bought a $300+ phone...might as well use its features.
You don't have to use the Samsung TecTiles...you can buy any of them, and download an NFC programmable app.

believe me, I wish I could think of uses for them that would do something I thought was functional, because gawdamn, the idea is cool. and I do love anything new tech-wise. i'm always an early adopter.
(and I bought the phone outright. $700 bucks w/ tax. worth every damn penny.)
so far, the only implementation I am seeing make NFC worthwhile is sBeam/filesharing, and google wallet (if it worked right now).
I will be keeping a watch on the tech, and I tend to make frivolous purchases (like the AllShare TV dongle), and perhaps I'll keep an eye on you, see if you come up with anything that sparks some ideas.
Anything useful for my personal routine (turning off ringer at work etc.) I have set up in tasker. For little stuff like opening you tube while on toilet, (lol) it just doesnt seem more convienent to tap phone to a tag than to click the app on my homescreen. Tasker really does all of the automation for me for work, my car etc.

Jelly Bomb has nfc with the screen off built in. I tried pulling the Nfc.apk from the 10.20 build and putting it on my own deodexed LJC rom but it didn't allow nfc with the screen off.
One thing that I thought would be useful is if I could set it up as a proximity sensor. Ex: when I put the phone in my car dock it turns on blue tooth and when I take it out it turns it off without having to touch another tag?

yes, just set it up to Toggle the bluetooth - that way if it's on it will turn off and visa versa.
I have similar setups and it works like a charm.
and the tiles will work with Every phone that has NFC, so even when you get a future phone, the tiles will continue to work. I think they are the bees knees.
they become more useful once you mod the phone to work with nfc screen off (someone posted a mod but it only works from lockscreen not screen off hopefully that will be fixed soon)
I have one each on my washer and dryer. they set a "timer" that goes off and tells me when the washer and dryer are done (30 minutes for washer 70minutes for dryer)
I have one on my car to auto set my car locator position one the dev for car locator gets that working right.
I also plan to use them for geo caching. I hope geocaching.com integrates NFC functionality into their service soon is VERY ideal for that.
I also plan to use them on "bins" in storage. I store what is in the bin in the tag. tap and now I know whats inside (working on that soon)
you can use QR codes but they are a pain (have to load an app) and then wait for camera to focus AND they don't like low light. NFC don't care tap done.
also plan to put on on my Radio Transmitter for my competition rocket gliders. tap and 15minute countdown timer starts.
I would like to start watching some movies on my note 2. I don't want to download them to my device. I was thinking of using drop box and a program which puts dvds as a file. if you were trying to "share" movies over your own home network, like watch movies that were on a home computer in another room, that would be easy. Stupid easy. Set your folder with movies as "shared" over the network, use something like BubbleUPnP player, or even XBMC for Android (quite a bit more complicated to set up, but Way Worth it, once you set up the library and shares) to browse and watch. (with XBMC, I woiuld set it up on the host sys, set up the libraries and metadata there for sharing over the network.)
if you are trying to "share" movies over the internet (from your home, I assume?), for you to watch when you were out at another location, well that's a hobby unto itself, and outside the scope of what you could expect here at XDA. Learning how to set up a "real" server (FTP, SMB/CIFS), takes time and (at least self-) education. People get paid to do that kind of stuff, right? Worth learning, if you have the time. But I don't have the time to even teach you the basics. There are no basics.
Not to mention most likely your bandwidth upstream from home, on most IPSs, is not very great. I wouldn't want to stream anything but standard definition vid files, And it might "kill" the internet use for anyone at home.
But for fun, here are some basic solutions and/or information for you to explore, get started. If you start to play around with networking, you'll quickly become a "computer genius" to family n friends. :

http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-i-set-home-file-server-free-review-freenas.htm (FreeNAS is one of my faves)
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/9659/how-to-install-and-setup-windows-home-server/ (WHS is another fave, even though they dont "make" it anymore, it can still be found, and is a stupid easy way to "get started" in servers if you're comfortable in the Windows environment, I always recommend it to anyone that doesn't want to get into command line *nix kinda stuff, just wants to play around with a functional and easy way to have a server, works great, and completely instantly compatible, obviously, with any Win based PCs at home.)

Good Luck!

I downloaded this after seeing your post and have watched every new movie from 2012 I'd wanted to see but wouldn't pay $20 to go sit in a theater full of morons crunching popcorn, slurping soda, texting, talking and making my night miserable what a waste. I haven't been to a theater in 2 year's or so cause of that crap. Price is too high to go watch a movie that you miss half of from the rude idiots acting like they're sitting on their own couch and didnt just pay a small fortune to be there. I can't quite figure out why the prices have gotten so high its not like the theaters have gotten any nicer or more private. I could see a price increase if they weren't packing 200+ people in a 150'x150' room im seats where you're practically sitting on each others lap.

it's basic economics. wherein a business is not considered successful unless there is measurable Growth in profits to show to investors every year. (ie: "how can we squeeze more money from our customers while bringing production costs down/delivering less, and do it better than last year?") theaters have become the worst experience you can have for $15, hands down.
if it wasn't for IMAX, i wouldn't go to theaters at all. even then, at home i've got excellent surround sound, 55" screen. and i get to take pee breaks. and i make way better snacks than Regal. (you haven't lived until you've had my open-faced chopped steak and provolone sandwich)
and people wonder why i'm a verified, unrepentant, and proud pirate. over 700 movies in my collection, and counting. (not to mention TV seasons... and hundreds of thousands of songs...) that's why I maintain a robust server in my basement. any bit of my media collection is accessible by any terminal in the house.
call me a hypocrite if you like, but i never pirate software. and verbally slam those that do. *shrug*

Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I dont think this feature would be nearly as useful as on a mobile phone.
I think the mic is always on because of Google Now and the ability to do voice commands at will.
Honestly I can see the benefits but if you are too lazy to pretty a button then its pretty sad. I'd rather see a dedicated voice button then always on mic. Not only for security but also because if it is always on, then it is always processing. Seems like a waste of resources 99% of the time.
Just grab a Bluetooth headset and press the button on the unit, and it will ask for a command. At least mine does.
Plus what's next? Always on video? A Google employee moving into my house? Cats and dogs, living together?

That has to be the stupidest thing i have heard someone say.
Does your TV have a remote. What are you lazy to walk to your TV?
Its an evolution of technology. Why should i have to touch it when i could NOT touch it.
I am not huge on voice controls because if i am already touching my device i would rather just do it with my finger.
If i don't have to even look at my phone to send a message or skip a song then why would I.

ROFL
Even Star Trek's communicators on their shirts have to be pressed. And Star Trek knows the future better then we do. Nuff said.
Btw I'm only half serious.
Something like Google Glass, I understand IF it was paired to YOUR VOICE. But a phone...? It doesn't need to be listening every second just to grab 1 or 2 commands. Have you ever tried using Google Now in a noisy environment. I can only see my phone grabbing all sorts of random commands and doing random acts. Pass on that.
Even Google Glass reviews show it picking up commands from others and screwing things up.

I was under the impression the always on mic was powered by different hardware specs ie: the super low voltage battery when sleeping and a low power mic. Seems like this will be hard to implement for many devices without these hardware features.
I think always on mic is a moto thing, dealing with their custom made snapdragon aka "motorola x8 computing system", has a whole core dedicated to it, and another dedicated to gestures. I think current devices could do it fine, but battery life would suffer without motorolas software and hardware tweaks.
Of course I don't really know, that's just my guess. Guess we'll all find out next week

It doesn't have an IR blaster... but it does have an IR LED that is used for the Retinal Unlocking. I wonder if someone will be able to write an app that uses that as an IR blaster. Since it is front facing, it might be a challenge to use the screen and blaster towards a device, but its better than nothing.
Why would it be removed? Makes zero sense! !!

Even if it only costs them 5 bucks to add it, 5 dollars times 1 million units (they'll sell more but for easy math) is 5 mil $$. Since usage is likely around 1% of users, they'd rather keep those funds for other features, R&D, or just profit.

IR Blaster is the biggest none argument ever.
Does your TV, DVD etc not come with a remote? If so use that...
What a dumb argument this is....

Fair enough but I still think it's a load of bellyaching over nothing. It's not there, doesn't need to, so move on & live with it.

I"m doing exactly that with the locking of the bootloader for US builds in combo with this I"m done with samsung and I'm not the only one as I've heard others as well....that is an Apple move if you don't like move on.....I'm on android for a reason
wow so much passion over a little issue. buy a htc phone which can also learn ir signals, or another phone that does have IR if you cant live without it... id pay $10 extra for the IR blaster edition but im not to going to stress over it
there are devices to plug into the audio jack and can send IR signals, most are crap but im sure one of them will work with most appliances... why dont you guys direct your efforts in that direction and then share your findings instead of making posts on every new phone that comes out.... just a suggestion.
here's a head start.

I have a Harmony Smart Control remote. Nice thing about that is it can work with its included RF remote or any iOS/Android device.
Works way better than any IR Blaster I had built into a phone (for one, it was RF & WiFi - the base station sends all the IR commands). Pointing a phone at the TV to control volume is so outdated.

It's been gone since the Note 5 so it's not to much of a surprise. HTC also took it out of the One this year. Looks like LG is the only sticking with it for now.

....you ask a smart ass question i give you a smart ass answer why the **** not?
It's amusing when people cling to the past. The past two product cycles there were huge arguments over the absence of FM radio. Granted there were valid points (EG: emergencies where cell lines are down, free music without data use) but at the end of the day FM radio on cell phones is dying.
IR is going the way of the Dodo too being replaced at a minimum by RF but more prevalently by BT and Wi-Fi. Seriously, as wireless tech has advanced what value does a line-of-site protocol still hold? The remote app I use on my phone to control my Galaxy View is BT. My TiVo Bolt's remote is RF and the app on my phone and tablets controls it by Wi-Fi. My thermostat is controlled by Wi-Fi. Amazon's Echo and other IoT devices use Wi-Fi. Sorry IR fans, your technology is dying. If you must have it then Samsung's phones aren't for you. Complaining about it isn't going to bring it back.
The point many are missing... Replaceable battery gone.. "don't cling to the past" (lol dumbest argument EVER... its like 2nd child is born without a nose.. and you expect 3rd..."nose...a thing of the past.. dont cling to the past).. so lol again. Moving on... Sd card gone... "don't cling to the past"...thank god people do still have a brain (and we got SD back)... now IR gone... again" don't cling to the past"... lol... do you notice a pattern here?
In this case I'll await the day phone function is gone and I'll be right there with.. "don't cling to the past"... lol
The point why the freck are we paying more and more money while functions are less and less.
You know what the bottom line is... for 5$ per unit they saved... they lost 900$ from me... and from others can they lose clients enough to make them lose overall... yes... if not this year... in the near future with next 5 features dropped.
Over and out
