Dear XDA developers,
I am a noob (nice registration video, btw). I did a lot of search and research inside XDA for this answer but I am still not entirely sure this is the right way to proceed. I would beg a few clarification from those who have more experience playing with the T889v Note 2 before I start doing any flashing and boot looping... I heard some horror stories of people losing IMEI numbers, stuck in eternal loops etc. I would rather avoid that at the beginning rather than ask the question after I messed everything up.
My Goal: Unlock a Videotron T889VVLBMA3 Note 2 on 4.1.2 (never rooted, never flashed) without wiping existing data (if possible...)
Based on instructions gathered from other posts, these are some facts I gathered. Not sure if they are correct. Please comment and let me know if anything is off, wrong or very stupid to do (e.g. BRICK!).
4.1.2 patched the loophole of unlocking Note 2 easily using the *#197328640# (when I tried, I do not see [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ)
In order to unlock, a modem downgrade to earlier version (i.e. the baseband version came with 4.1.1) is necessary.
I will need to download the 4.1.1. modem file from the forum (4.1.1, Videotron, i.e. T889V-VLALJ4_VTR_Modem-Oct_10_12-teshxx.zip, thanks to teshxx)
Download and run ODIN 3.07,
Click the checkbox beside PHONE and select the modem.bin file from the ZIP (what about other files in the zip? or should I use the PDA box instead?)
and it will work?! allowing me to see the magical 4th option to unlock my phone without wiping data?
A few other related questions:
Would 4.1.2 firmware work with the older modem baseband or they have to be flashed together?
Should I root my phone first (e.g. flash CWM6 Odin flash with PDA option), use Titanium backup and then do a complete 4.1.1 downgrade/wipe/unlock and reupgrade to 4.1.2. and restore from backup for better performance?
Thank you very much. I will press thank you button no matter what you replied, as mandated by the video.
If you don't see [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ, that means you either have to downgrade the phone first or downgrade the modem. I haven't downgraded the modem only before so I did the whole firmware; probably safer. Since it seems like a bother for you to start over, then might as well root it first, then do a Titanium Backup before you downgrade.
Root phone
Titanium backup your apps
Downgrade phone
Unlock phone
Upgrade back to 4.1.2
Restore apps from Titanium backup
---------- Post added at 06:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:20 PM ----------
Or even easier,
Root phone,
Create 4.1.2 Nandroid
Downgrade to 4.1.1
Unlock
Restore from 4.1.2 Nandroid
Thanks a lot. I will give it a try. I will play it safe.

You need to be on the shipped rom for the all unlock menus to be present.
So if I downgrade to 4.1.1 it should definitely be able to unlock?

Hi,
I've searched but cannot find a simple guide to flash a stock Rogers i927R (GB non-rooted) to ATT ICS I927UCLJ3.
I'm outside the US and Rogers may never offer the update via Keis, so I think flashing is the only option right now.
I've read various links but they seem different depending on the starting point.
I don't necessarily need root, just would like the official ICS update.
I've downloaded Odin and the I927UCLJ3 from sammobile.com.
Any help appreciated for a newb, with steps and why each step is needed.
Thanks.
You need to install the md5 that you downloaded.
First off make sure your phone is disconnected from the computer.
Put your phone into download mode by pushing volume up and power at the same time.
Plug phone into computer.
Make sure you have the md5 you have downloaded in the pda slot of Odin and the box beside it is checked.
Hit start and you should see a box in the top left corner start doing stuff.
When its done you are done.
Sorry I'm not at a computer but this is pretty much what ya do

Also make sure the usb plug is a port that is intergrated on the motherboard

According to that guide I need CWMR as well, which is for making a backup of the system.
Does having it installed have any adverse effect, such as future updates, etc ?

I'm the same, a newb at android flashing which is why I'm just data gathering at the moment, so wont be doing this for at least a few weeks until I feel comfortable.
Plus, would like to wait and see if Rogers release an official update as well.
Might need to find a video of it being done with similar steps.
Still waiting on a reply to these questions from this thread:
1. Do I need CWMR installed ?
2. Does the device have to be rooted first before flashing the ATT ICS md5 ?

No and No, CWMS is a custom recovery program that takes the place of the stock android recovery and gives you backup and recovery options as well as flashing via the program from a zip file.Rooting just lets programs access protected files and folders from the operating system aka root access = access to root files.
Flashing from Odin has nothing to do with root or custom recovery.

Thanks, starting to make more sense now.
So basically all I need is Odin and the ATT ICS I927UCLJ3.
1. Will I still be able to flash other ROM's after flashing ATT ICS I927UCLJ3, including going back to stock GB for warranty purposes ?
2. What are the risks if I dont install CWMR ?

Yes,you can install other roms after you flash it,it isnt permanent.
There are no risks for nor installing a custom recovery, but if you are concerned about returning to GB then install a custom recovery and do a complete backup of your GB before you do the flash to JB.

stingernwo, Does your GPS still work ?
I found after I upgraded to ICS I couldn't use GPS anymore.. but when I reverted to Rogers stock GB .. GPS worked again like a charm....
CWM - it's not needed to flash with Odin, its only needed to flash your phone with any .zip files (many addons/roms are in .zip format)
Odin is used primarily for STOCK rom flashing.
CWM is needed to Root the phone when it's ICS and to make Nandroid (full complete snapshot) backups. If you explore your SD Card on the computer you can rename the backups to something easier to identify than dates but don't put spaces in the file names or you get checksum errors when restoring.
If you want a rooted GB you'll need to download the specific rooted glide firmware for either ATT or Rogers (Download links are in the Glide root guide)

I see now.
Glad you mentioned about the GPS not working as I need that. Will have to hold off on the ATT ICS update.
What I would really like is a rooted ROM, preferably ICS so that I can use Directory Bind to redirect large game data on the external_sd card.

No, My GPS Only worked fully on the stock Rogers GB .. I went right to ICS with literom and a pre-rooted UCLH2 rom.
However, I'm happy to spread the news that TheGreaterGood's 0.8.4 literom has fully working GPS, All the ice cream sandwich goodness and some other built in goodies. I'm very happy with this Rom so far!!
It just came out so there's mixed reviews on battery, but I figure if I keep GPS turned off except the odd time (which is hard since i've been without it so long) then it should be ok!

1) Finally decide to flash the Stock UCLJ3 Rooted AT&T ICS Rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994902
Once I was satisfied I had done enough backups with CWMR, it was actually quite simple, and the flash itself took less than 10mins.
2) The only issue was with the GPS which I got to work using these 2 threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1239713
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&highlight=gps
Essentially had to make minor changes to 2 files:
/etc/gps.conf
NTP_SERVER=0.oceania.pool.ntp.org [changed from: noth-america.pool.ntp.org] since I'm in Australia.
/etc/sirfgps.conf
EXTERNAL_LNA=0 [changed from 1]
FREQUENCY_AIDING=1 [changed from 0]
ATT_NETWORK_OPERATOR=0 [changed from 1 since I'm not on AT&T]
Rebooted and ran 'GPS Test', once it found 8 satellites and locked onto 3 of them within a few minutes I then ran Google Maps while driving in the car and it stayed locked onto my position.
3) Just a note, when I flashed the Pure Stock UCLJ3 over the previous Rogers GB 2.3.6, then booted up, the phone had re-locked and was requesting the Network Unlock Key.
Luckily I already had the Unlock Key, because a few months after buying the device, it turned off after running out of battery, and on the next boot it was requesting the code.
The place I bought it from provided the key which I kept in case it were to happen again.
Entering the same Key on ICS worked of course.
4) On the plus side, on Vodafone in Australia:
Rogers Stock 2.3.6 = highest 3G speed was 14.4Mbit
AT&T Rooted Stock 4.0.4 = highest 3G speed of 21.6Mbit
This is in the same areas I travel and at home.

Do you have a custom recovery installed yet? Thats what you use to flash the modem zip. Look at the threads for installing twrp ( recommended) or cwm. That's what you need.

I think flashing just the modem causes no issue until all Android's you use are in the same version i.e 4.1.x since 4.2+ requires a different modem(baseband to work). I just did say that in YouTube and read in xda!

Hi
Last night i tired to root my phone using a firmware but kinda ran in some what a major issue. As i was updating the ROM using ODIN it decided to fail and kinda soft brick my device. After trying to find ways to get round i mange to find a stock ROM which got it back to the main screen. The issue that i've got now is that the IMEI number is 0049 and getting no service or mobile data.
Looked on a couple forums about trying to fix the IMEI. I came across one including the NV_Data and another one using EFS restore. The issue is that i haven't got a working NV_Data file or a full back up of a EFS partition. (yeah i know that i've should've backed up the EFS had it all today off my mate hehe)
Was wondering if anyone could help me or point me in the right direction.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100- SIM: T-mobile
Thank you

How to recover lost IMEI that happens with downgrading ROM
If you have lost IMEI just by downgrading (as said by above by flashing older ROM), still you can recover IMEI without having EFS backup.
-Again upgrade ROM will restore IMEI OR
-Flash latest Modem. You can find it here.. You can download MG1 modem and flash using PC Odin with 'Phone' tab instead of PDA.
Remember above said works only if IMEI is corrupted by downgrading ROM only, if it was corrupted by other things, this won't be helpful.

so installing the newer modem might fix things for you without having to install the whole rom

then download the Odin Method
select the file from the pda button in odin and flash ....it should even root ur phone if it wasn't .. there is a lot of ways to reset ur phone to stock so it's not a dangerous operation
this vid is for s3 but it's the same method http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f9QdsnSTso just use the file from the link above

Good day to all!!!
I've gone into bootloop, and having a hard time finding a link to my previous rom which is N7100XXUEMK9-COA(MJ9). So I decided to download at Sammobile a N7100XXUFNG4(FND2) -Philippines coz I'm from Philippines. And I flashed it thru odin. Installed PhilzTouch, rooted and done. After using it for a few days, while reading some threads to other forums. I finally found a link to my previous rom. I've successfuly downloaded it.
I'm just wondering if I can directly flash this N7100XXUEMK9(MJ9) back to my phone which is N7100XXUFNG4(FND2) now using odin again? Can I flash this without losing my IMEI, Modem, Wifi or my EFS being corrupted?
By the way 4.4 is fine. But on my own observation, it drains my battery faster than 4.3. So if there's a chance getting back to 4.3, maybe I'll grab the chance. If it's going to be complicated, maybe I won't do it anymore.
Sorry for a the long story. Hope somebody can help me. Thanks all.
Anyone? Please. Thanks.

I am unsure about this, if you have upgraded bootloader, you are stuck with latest bootloader, however you can downgrade rom, unless I am mistaken.

You can't downgrade with Odin if your existing bootloader is kitkat. Though you can use mobile din to downgrade to 4.3. And regarding IMEI, No one can say whether you will lose it or not because even you doing everything correct there are still minimal chances to lose it (any bad flashing can cause it) but make EFS backup and copy it to multiple places. I stroingly recommend to make backup efs in .img format (search play store for "Dr.Ketan Hindocha" and you will find IMEI Tool N7100/N900 which makes backup on said format)

Hello,
I just got my DE device in the mail and I guess I thought if I made a TWRP backup, I'd be free to tinker.
However, I didn't do as much research as I should have and now TWRP reboots on my backup restore as soon as I select it, rendering it impossible to restore.
Curious to know if anyone has a link I can use to restore back to factory fresh with a TWRP zip? I saw in my latest research I can backup the aboot, restore some Odin version that may or may not lock the bootloader and I figured this would seem easier with less further risk.
Also, I couldn't seem to find any links for the 910V as far as ROMs go, if anyone has a link handy, that would be grand.
Thanks in advance.
You need to follow this thread to get back to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/how-to-roll-to-kk-4-4-4-lollipop-5-0-1-t3097054
I've used it numerous times to go back and forth between kitkat and lollipop.
Thank you so much.
To clarify, I won't lose my unlocked bootloader...correct?
I should have backed up the aboot when I had the chance, but, now its telling me it won't connect to EFS whilst in recovery mode.
So I don't have that backed up, not a problem with this method you linked me to?
Okay, read the whole thread, flashed back to 4.4.4 without incident.
Going to go ahead and back up that aboot right now.
However, I'm still at a loss for proper ROMS for this device, is there a thread for this?

Do not flash the file Romans8v1 gave you!!! That file is for a retail Note 4, not a DE Note 4. If you flash that file you will lock your bootloader. Here is where you can find ROMs safe to flash on your DE Note 4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/development

Going to go ahead and back up that aboot right now.
However, I'm still at a loss for proper ROMS for this device, is there a thread for this?
