Dear XDA developers,
I am a noob (nice registration video, btw). I did a lot of search and research inside XDA for this answer but I am still not entirely sure this is the right way to proceed. I would beg a few clarification from those who have more experience playing with the T889v Note 2 before I start doing any flashing and boot looping... I heard some horror stories of people losing IMEI numbers, stuck in eternal loops etc. I would rather avoid that at the beginning rather than ask the question after I messed everything up.
My Goal: Unlock a Videotron T889VVLBMA3 Note 2 on 4.1.2 (never rooted, never flashed) without wiping existing data (if possible...)
Based on instructions gathered from other posts, these are some facts I gathered. Not sure if they are correct. Please comment and let me know if anything is off, wrong or very stupid to do (e.g. BRICK!).
4.1.2 patched the loophole of unlocking Note 2 easily using the *#197328640# (when I tried, I do not see [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ)
In order to unlock, a modem downgrade to earlier version (i.e. the baseband version came with 4.1.1) is necessary.
I will need to download the 4.1.1. modem file from the forum (4.1.1, Videotron, i.e. T889V-VLALJ4_VTR_Modem-Oct_10_12-teshxx.zip, thanks to teshxx)
Download and run ODIN 3.07,
Click the checkbox beside PHONE and select the modem.bin file from the ZIP (what about other files in the zip? or should I use the PDA box instead?)
and it will work?! allowing me to see the magical 4th option to unlock my phone without wiping data?
A few other related questions:
Would 4.1.2 firmware work with the older modem baseband or they have to be flashed together?
Should I root my phone first (e.g. flash CWM6 Odin flash with PDA option), use Titanium backup and then do a complete 4.1.1 downgrade/wipe/unlock and reupgrade to 4.1.2. and restore from backup for better performance?
Thank you very much. I will press thank you button no matter what you replied, as mandated by the video.
If you don't see [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ, that means you either have to downgrade the phone first or downgrade the modem. I haven't downgraded the modem only before so I did the whole firmware; probably safer. Since it seems like a bother for you to start over, then might as well root it first, then do a Titanium Backup before you downgrade.
Root phone
Titanium backup your apps
Downgrade phone
Unlock phone
Upgrade back to 4.1.2
Restore apps from Titanium backup
---------- Post added at 06:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:20 PM ----------
Or even easier,
Root phone,
Create 4.1.2 Nandroid
Downgrade to 4.1.1
Unlock
Restore from 4.1.2 Nandroid
Thanks a lot. I will give it a try. I will play it safe.

You need to be on the shipped rom for the all unlock menus to be present.
So if I downgrade to 4.1.1 it should definitely be able to unlock?

I dont have root to delet those two files. And could you expand on the root66 and oding thing?
Root66 firmware is in my thread in development section, link in my sig. Youll find instructions for Odin there and all over the place with a quick search and from the sticky threads. Not being rude, just don't like redoing what's already out there. If you have any specific questions about the process, ill be happy to answer them.

Click the root66 heading to go to the thread if you want more info about it.

Ok so i have root and installed twrp recovery the latest one and it worked. I have root and a recovery . So can i go ahaed and flash a rom and kernel now without any repercussions?
Flashing any recovery or kernel trips the warranty bit. No way around that and no way to reset it I'm sorry to say. Since you've flashed recovery its likely tripped already so flashing kernels and roms won't make any difference anymore. The binary counter doesn't matter as its easily reset. But if you have a custom kernel or recovery it'll retrip to 1 every time you boot.

I dont care for warranty or counter trip than. So i guess my final question is can i flash any roms including 4.2 and kitkat and above without bricking my phone?
You can flash Any of these roms via Custom Recovery TWRP and you will do fine.
Do note, some people have mentioned that with a 4.2.x or 4.1.x Roms, sometimes their IMEI goes missing. So take a Nandroid and EFS Backup before hand.

Perseus mentioned the nv (efs) backup before. Easiest way to protect yourself is open a terminal emulator and enter this.
su
reboot nvbackup
Device will reboot and create an internal, hidden backup of your nv data. I highly suggest doing this.

---------- Post added at 07:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:32 PM ----------
If you mean you made a nandroid backup, that is completely different and does not include any of the NV data. The backup I mentioned is intended to protect you from ever losing your imei in the first place.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/galaxy-s-iii-partition-layout-basic-efs-t1689623
I used this method.
Ok , first, never use anything you find in the international models forum for any US model. They are very, very different devices. If you made an image from mmcblk0p3 as stated in that thread, you actually made a copy of sbl2 I'm pretty sure.
Also, the imei, (the important thing here) is not actually stored on the efs partition as it is in some other devices.
Run the command I posted before for the best solution. If NV corruption is ever detected, it should auto restore from this backup during boot up.
And again, stay away from the international forums. Most of the info there will not apply to our devices here and many, many people have bricked due to that mistake.
And delete the backup you made. If you were to try and restore it to your device after updating it at some point, it would most likely cause a brick.
OK thanks I'll get on that . I flashed a remix ROM and everything seems good right now. I'll try to back it up today.

Read up on Kit Kat, you might not want to upgrade. You will lose write access to the SDCard. There are ways to then fix it, but you could lose function in some of your apps. Samsung finally adopted the Android specs for write access.
Hello all,
after Rooting my Note 2 SHV-E250S a long time ago I get bored with the stock firmware JB 4.3 SKT-E250SKSUEMK9. So I decided to flash a new Custom Rom.
I start reading and preparing. Backed up my data with Titanium Backup and used this for my EFS Backup: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/efs-samsung-tool-universal-support-t2602325
It created this files: efs.img (20 MB) and efs.md5 (1KB)
so i went through and flashed this Custom Recovery(TWRP for SKT) with Odin: https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxynote2t0lteskt.html
after reboot I wondered why I dont have to insert my PIN. Checked my IMEI and it says Null/Null
I tryed to Restore my EFS with the Samsung Tool and it didnt work.
Some forums talk about the .nv_data.bin in the EFS Folder. but I checked it with ES Data Explorer (root explorer is activated) and its not there.
What should I do now?
will it help if I go back to stock recovery?
I didnt found any for my device, so I would use [GT-N710x][SHV-E250*] CF-Auto-Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933542
it contains
- SuperSU binary and APK
- Stock recovery

What I tried till now:
Download stock firmware MK9 and extract stock recovery. Flashed with Odin. But it stuck on recovery.img. After 10 min I restart the Phone and --> Nothing. TWRP is still there
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pai4BH3AWq8
Enterd ServiceMode with *#0011#. But its --> Empty
There is also the Method of flashing Modem. It´s mentioned several times. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333216
I think its for the N7100 version. At least I didnt saw any post regarding the LTE version.
Alright, time for an update:
I decided to wait for Support and as you see --> Nothing
To post my question about the modem regarding compatability also faild because its in the dev forum. I need at least 10 posts to post there.
I'll keep you up to date
did you managed to fix the problem, as i got one E250S with the same problem (Unknown Baseband),
This happened after someone tried to flash the phone with N7100 firmware,
i tried to reflash the phone with it's original SKT firmware, and did flash the CP part twice, but that didn't fix the problem,
If someone have a solution for this, please post it here,
thanks in advance
Hey guys im kinda new here and english isnt my native language so mind the punctuation and bad english
so here goes
I have a Note 4 910p which was working fine until i decided to root it with the cf-root method for note 4 available on XDA . everything went fine but i needed root to install few ported stuff from other brands. I wanted to install a ported SONY XPERIA CAMERA , for that i needed a recovery i installed a CWM recovery , i installed the camera and after flashing it and finishing of the work , in the end it asked me if i wanted to root. i didnt know what to do i click okay. so it rooted after that my cell booted and the touch calibration was off . i fixed that by *#2663# code .
the main problem im facing is that after the whole process i cannot install any apks, like i can click the install button but as soon as it starts installing i get an error "App not installed . Package may be corrupted" i thought it was with just one apk file. i tried multiple apks on my cell and other cells. its working on other cells but not on mine. secondly i cannot seem to activate the Private Mode no matter how much i try. i have tried factory resetting it from the OS. ive tried factory reseting it from the CWM recovery. everytime i factory reset the calibration goes whack.
I downloaded 2 different STOCK FIRMWARD Tar files but every time i try installing them , its starts installing and ends with
AUTH Fail in Odin
Please help me.
PS : The Camera Apps From XPERIA package stay no matter how many times i factory reset please help
if it helps i cant post images but i can give u the spec and other details of my cell if it can help u people in understanding my problem

If you just want 100%stock you will need odin so keep trying deferent version of odin, reboot pc and start fresh also boot into download after you pull the battery
Because if you want to use Kies you will need stock recovery even for ota's you need stock recovery so best bet is to get odin to work properly
thank u guys for ur quick response. i couldnt find the proper solution for the APK and Private Mode problem but i did manage to find the solution for going back to stock
What i was doing wrong was that i had the OTA update upto 6.01 and i was trying to flash a 5.0 firmware tar . i was researching where i came across that after the 5.01 update u cant downgrade to older one thats y i was facing the

Hello
I have a question.
I have A3 2017 FL with Oreo 8.0.0 and TWRP and Root.
Now Samsung have rolled out a new Update withe fixex etc.
I Juse Samsung Stock Rom and want to update.
Is there an solution to updat without loosing Date, Root and TWRP.
I have found a threat with flashfir app but that wont work for me because the flashfire app says i am samsung write protection.
I hope ther is a good manual to do this with odin.
Please help if you have a solution.
Thanks forward marle.
An other Idea is Edit the Stock Rom and flash withe odin.
I have these 4 files: AP_A320FLXXU3CRH2_CL13997403_QB19389534_REV00_user_low_ship_meta.tar.md5

HOME_CSC_DBT_A320FLDBT3CRH2_CL14203702_QB19389001_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
I hope some one could tell me wich files i need and witch not.
I just want to keep my Data my settings my Root and my TWRP if it is possible.
I think in AP_A320FLXXU3CRH2_CL13997403_QB19389534_REV00_user_low_ship_meta.tar.md5
i have to delete the recovery.img.lz4 file.
I hope someone could tel what a need and what not,
Please help.
Thanks Forwards Marle.M
If you're messing with individual files in lz4 format for sure you'll want patched odin. It'll let you flash recovery and boot .img files from the stock rom once converted back to tar from 7zip.
I THINK it is possible to do if you do a clean unroot and then flash the recovery and boot... then redo all 4 with home_csc... but I do know you'll need/want patched odin.
But really it isn't so bad if you back up all your apk's on ext sd and your calls and messages with samsung cloud.
You're only looking at an hour or 2 after prep.
I am multi csc and wanted my carrier after the recent update and kept getting unbranded. Finally I flashed stock with regular csc and as soon as odin finished I went right back into download as if installing twrp but like I said, download again. Flashed stock with home_csc. Bingo... branded again. Then I noticed my dev manager said I had a 16 gig drive instead of 32. Fun. So I booted recovery, factory reset and it was brand new.
So... ha... if you don't get to do what you are asking and at least want a fresh start... there you go.
Tell you what I'll do... I am set up root again so I will unroot, flash stock recovery, boot up... power down and flash stock with the home_csc, then flash twrp and root again just to see what happens. Gimme about 30 minutes. I'm gonna break my phone hahahahaha
---------- Post added at 03:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:11 PM ----------
umm... yeah scratch that. I don't know how to re-install twrp without doing a wipe. back up your stuff and start over. If someone knows otherwise I'd like to hear it.
---------- Post added at 03:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:20 PM ----------
oh I took out my sd card and sim when I did the re-branding double rom (csc then with home_csc) trick.
