long story short: I screwed up my D2CAN (Telus) with a D2ATT recovery, flashing a ported ROM from a Sprint S3 (MSG_Chubz ROM)
Now if somone wouldn't mind sharing some knowledge on how i can go about going back to complete Stock, i'd be forever greatful...
I am hoping to return to stock using Odin, and then want to Re-Root so I can flash stuff safely again.
Can someone suggest how I can go about doing this, without bricking my phone?
So in a nut shell: Would i basically Flash the (.tar) file I used to root my phone in the first place, with Odin?
Then after that, restore, or re-download the recovery of my choice, or is it a tad more complicated then I'm thinking?
Your thinking is correct. Flash the correct rooted carrier firmware, boot into stock recovery and wipe data and cache. Then proceed with a custom recovery via goo manager or rom manager. Make a backup

Yes, simply flash that in ODIN. It happened to me on my D2ATT. All I did was flash in ODIN and everything worked perfect on Stock again. NOTICE thought that this will most likely unroot your phone, or at least that's what happened to me.

Not if he uses a rooted firmware tar...like I mentioned already. You must have used unrooted stock. I understand that you're trying to build the 10 posts that you need to be able to post in the development section, but please don't post in a thread just to post. Cheers
All I needed to do was flash the proper modem for 1747m (d2can), and now phone calls and texts work perfectly again.
Thanks for the suggestions and help everyone.

Yeah if it weren't for your suggestion I would be using Odin all over again. So thanks a whole lot man!
Hello, I have been here all night trying to recover my GS5 i747, I have TWRP but my phone does not seem to work with Micro SD cards, I was getting a blank SD error when it worked just fine in other phones. Does anyone here have a stock rom I can restore via Odin and be done with this once and for all? Apparently the phone is now wiped and I can only access TWRP and nothing else.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much, so are you saying that it's now safe to directly use Odin to downgrade to 4.1 from 4.3 OTA?
I've been reading a lot of warnings against that, and the highest Sam has is 4.1
What precautionary measures would I need to take?

You can't use Odin if you were already on 4.3 prior to losing your OS. Any attempt to flash 4.1.1 via Odin may result in a hard brick. Since you still have TWRP, use instructions and zip file in the thread below to restore your system to stock 4.3. Hope this works for you ....

Yes, a long delay is not unusual after a firmware restore. Usually, however, this can be avoided or limited if you wipe the cache/dalvik after the restore operation.

Don't try to downgrade it with Odin. You will brick your device.
You can also try this, I didn't try it but I guess it should work. If you're not sure what you're doing, don't try it.

I downloaded the mk5 file from another one of his posts, and with that download it gives me multiple folders and a boot.img.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, the phone is actually up and running now, but the main problem i have found with it is that the sound is not working at all and videos dont want to play. Do i need the files in those folders and the .img file to make everything work properly? any other information can be provided and all is welcomed thank you.

What bootloader is on your phone? You need to confirm that before proceeding. If you have a 4.4.2 bootloader and you use the 4.3 restore procedure, you could brick your phone.

Yes, that is 4.3. Make sure you read the instructions very carefully. Flashing is always risky and there is always a chance that you wind up bricking the phone.

Yes, but any more risky than flashing to the Carbon rom I just loaded?
Normally, flashing custom ROMs such as Liquid and Carbon do not flash a modem or bootloader. If something goes wrong, you can boot back into recovery and re-flash or flash a different ROM.
Flashing a stock ROM desktop Odin usually includes a modem and bootloader change. I believe changing the bootloader is the most crucial part to get right.
Hi there, first time poster and I want to thank the OP for the great efforts, write up and support!
I have a rooted ATT SGH-i747 that OTA soft-bricked on the way to 4.4.3 - I was able to get the phone back up and working with the 4.3 .zip and ODIN 3.7 following your thread, and then restored most of my data - but now my phone won't connect to 4G, it's wifi only, and Baseband version is "unknown"
I am assuming I should continue to update to 4.4.2 but I don't want to do further damage...
Any advice on how I can get back on ATT 4G or what my next move should be?
FWIW, I have CWM and TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery -v5 installed on external SD

Is the baseband still unknown? If it is, you should determine the bootloader installed on your phone. Sounds like a mismatch between the bootloader and modem.

I doubt that any stock rom will flash with twrp recovery....in the past with oppo phones (n1, 7a) its always needed stock recovery to flash stock roms...I guess we just play the waiting game until someone can upload the boot image from the updated rom. I'm pretty sure flashing that alone will get wifi back up and running. 07 Or if someone has the stock recovery they could upload....I am unsure if you can just rip it directly out of the rom and flash it....Also on oppo forums they have posted the rom for 5207 I am also unsure if you can flash that to the 5206.
The zip in that thread is images to flash in fastboot?
...
I would think you would have to flash each image individually.... system, boot, recovery ....unless if we start by flashing only the unmodified boot.img to see if it will fix wifi....but i doubt it because i suspect the wrong boot image is what screwed up wifi in the first place...someone please correct me if im wrong

Yes, you're right; the boot image is not compatible with the upgrade; so downgrade to get root. I'm working on trying to upgrade again with the OTA upgrade and then getting the new boot.img and rooting that. More soon I hope!
FYI I tried your images, Lum_UK and found that I couldn't flash boot.img with fastboot, BUT I could dd them from within recovery, so I got myself up and running again.
Yes you'd have to flash all the images by hand one after the other.

I have no idea what it changes as it's the firmware my International N5706 was shipped with when it was released last week. It may be different to the US model (though I believe the only difference between the two is the baseband) and is definitely different to the N5707 for Chinese users.

Hi, I've talked of this before. The firmware update, I tried returning to stock then attempting to update the firmware through updating the software OTA but that failed no matter what I did. I returned to stock, flashed the stock recovery, and even locked the bootloader. And finally I attempted an RUU but the RUU failed. So now I lost all my data in vain. I rooted the phone again and reflashed it to Insert coin android 4.4.4, ect.. And I currently am really tired of this. Isn't there any way to get through this? I want the new Insert Coin Lollipop but I have S-ON and cant update the firmware. Can someone please help me? It would be really appreciated. Thanks for reading this lousy comment.

I don't know anything about Insert Coin. But if you want stock lollipop from Rogers, you could restore a Nandroid backup via TWRP.
For a start, post your fastboot getvar all (without serial no. and imei no.)
Then most probably the nandroid that ikeny mentioned is the right backup.
I'd be more worried about the RUU failing - I wonder what the error code was?
If OP's M8 was Rogers branded, CID ROGER_001, then RUU from Rogers never existed in the first place. Perhaps this explains the error.

I'm actually kinda wondering, is there a method to update to lollipop without returning to stock? I don't have S-OFF so I cant update the firmware alone. All I want is to update the firmware somehow and then I'd be able to use the latest Insert Coin Lollipop Rom. Although thanks a ton for that link, I'll use it as my last resort.
