Do you have a custom recovery installed yet? Thats what you use to flash the modem zip. Look at the threads for installing twrp ( recommended) or cwm. That's what you need.

flash
wipe cache(optional)
reboot

Hey @engsrini
Did you succeeded after installing TWRP/CWM and flashing the MODEM further Unlocking with that method?
I am also in the same situation. Let me know!

Okay!
I am waiting. Reply me back once you're done so i can go ahead with purchase.
I think flashing just the modem causes no issue until all Android's you use are in the same version i.e 4.1.x since 4.2+ requires a different modem(baseband to work). I just did say that in YouTube and read in xda!

EDIT:
Little bit of search in XDA suggests it works i.e just flashing the modem and you're safer to go

(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in
[6] Network Lock then choose
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone

[Q] Tmobile gn2 brick

Hi I was able to root my tmobile gn2 using a guide which worked perfectly fine. But I wanted to unroot my phone but due to incomplete research and knowledge my phone is now bricked. The guide i followed didn't specifically mention regarding US carriers so I went ahead and tried to unroot with other GT-7100 firmwares available and when I tried to flash with ODIN i kept getting failures and now it is stuck in the "firmware upgrade encountered an issure. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I tried it was just an error with the firmware so i tried another one, but nonetheless it failed and somehow my binary count went up to 3.
I tried going into recovery but it doesn't work, but I am still able to get into the ODIN download screen.
I'm not really sure what to do at this point.
I would really appreciate any help
Did you try the method here?

Since tmo galaxy note 2 has its own forum only download roms or any other firmwares from there so you do not risk bricking yoyr device.

I actually did look through the thread but I was too afraid to do anything else since I might make my situation worse, but I think I might go ahead and try it.
I just follow the same procedure right? download the zip file and flash it with odin?
Flash CWM Recovery with odin. Once that is done flash rom through the recovery.

How is that going to help to get an imei number back? Thats a link to a uvalj1 modem.
The man is trying to get his imei number back. And we all just about know from intuition that he doesnt have a backup. Id send him to the galaxy s3 thread by peoplearmy that details method that DOES work on our phone using nv reader to back up or inject an imei number into the system.
I just dont have the link and cant find it
But flashing modems isnt going to do nothin at all.
OP GO TO THE GALAXY S3 FORUMS FOR TMOBILE find and download those tools. Follow the instructions PROVIDED there and try to INJECT an imei into your phone since im pretty certain that you dont have a backup. Stop following links and flashing random files from people that know even less than you about fixing the problem.

[Q] T889v 4.1.2 & Unlock

Dear XDA developers,
I am a noob (nice registration video, btw). I did a lot of search and research inside XDA for this answer but I am still not entirely sure this is the right way to proceed. I would beg a few clarification from those who have more experience playing with the T889v Note 2 before I start doing any flashing and boot looping... I heard some horror stories of people losing IMEI numbers, stuck in eternal loops etc. I would rather avoid that at the beginning rather than ask the question after I messed everything up.
My Goal: Unlock a Videotron T889VVLBMA3 Note 2 on 4.1.2 (never rooted, never flashed) without wiping existing data (if possible...)
Based on instructions gathered from other posts, these are some facts I gathered. Not sure if they are correct. Please comment and let me know if anything is off, wrong or very stupid to do (e.g. BRICK!).
4.1.2 patched the loophole of unlocking Note 2 easily using the *#197328640# (when I tried, I do not see [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ)
In order to unlock, a modem downgrade to earlier version (i.e. the baseband version came with 4.1.1) is necessary.
I will need to download the 4.1.1. modem file from the forum (4.1.1, Videotron, i.e. T889V-VLALJ4_VTR_Modem-Oct_10_12-teshxx.zip, thanks to teshxx)
Download and run ODIN 3.07,
Click the checkbox beside PHONE and select the modem.bin file from the ZIP (what about other files in the zip? or should I use the PDA box instead?)
and it will work?! allowing me to see the magical 4th option to unlock my phone without wiping data?
A few other related questions:
Would 4.1.2 firmware work with the older modem baseband or they have to be flashed together?
Should I root my phone first (e.g. flash CWM6 Odin flash with PDA option), use Titanium backup and then do a complete 4.1.1 downgrade/wipe/unlock and reupgrade to 4.1.2. and restore from backup for better performance?
Thank you very much. I will press thank you button no matter what you replied, as mandated by the video.
If you don't see [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ, that means you either have to downgrade the phone first or downgrade the modem. I haven't downgraded the modem only before so I did the whole firmware; probably safer. Since it seems like a bother for you to start over, then might as well root it first, then do a Titanium Backup before you downgrade.
Root phone
Titanium backup your apps
Downgrade phone
Unlock phone
Upgrade back to 4.1.2
Restore apps from Titanium backup
---------- Post added at 06:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:20 PM ----------
Or even easier,
Root phone,
Create 4.1.2 Nandroid
Downgrade to 4.1.1
Unlock
Restore from 4.1.2 Nandroid
Thanks a lot. I will give it a try. I will play it safe.

So if I downgrade to 4.1.1 it should definitely be able to unlock?

I'm sorry, this probably gets asked a lot, but I couldn't really find a thread to help me. I tried this but I get

SHA256_OFF => Not Change

Sorry, I'm really new to Android, what would be the best way of doing this?
You need to be on Android 4.1.1 in order for the missing menu to appear. You can Flash older firmware Via Kies or via Odin.
If you have Custom Recovery (Or willing to flash it) then you can flash the 4.1.1 Modem alone and that'll do it.

Please help in finding T889UVALK8 , T889UVUCMK7 Modems

Hello all,
I have rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with CWM Recovery, on 4.3 . I need to unlock this phone. Where ever I go to download these files, I end up getting virus on my computer.
I need to downgrade my UVUCMK7 modem to UVALK8 modem to unlock using the dialing procedures, and then need to put the UVUCMK7 back on it
Please point me to a thread or site where it is safe.
Thank you very much.
