bought a galaxy s3 about two days ago and the screen is already cracked
I pay for insurance, but they told me that they don't cover physical damage (i didn't tell them that it's broken)...
the deductible for a new phone is $150... would it be cheaper to just get it replaced or is there a way i can replace the digitizer myself for less

Call Samsung....for a cracked outer glass they were charging 178.50 next day there and back included
What kind of insurance did you pay for if they don't cover physical damage?

Did u buy the Sprint insurance? It sounds like u bought it somewhere else. Can u specify? I bought my from Target but had to go to the Sprint store to get the insurance on it. I was told it covers everything. But now if there's physical damage u'd have to make a claim

Yeah, I don't really get the point of insurance if it doesn't cover physical damage. Where did you get it from and how much do you pay?
so looks like the guy on the phone gave me wrong info... I do have sprint's total equipment protection plan... sucks that the deductible is $150 though..
Just report your phone lost, they'll send you a new one, then go to the nearest sprint store and sell the old one, your deductible will be covered by the buyback

I thought if you report the phone stolen that they block the IMEI or something so the phone can't be used anyway.
I know when I was with t-mobile, one could just take the SIM card out and change it. Not understanding how it works with Sprint phones since they have to be activated. Google time lol.

I would go into the sprint store (that does repairs), show the person at the front your phone and tell them you want to talk to a tech to see about repairing the phone. You may be surprised, or not, at what they'll do. They'll either fix it there for less, or replace the phone for nothing seeing as you just got it. I wouldn't push that second option, but that's what they did for me without me even asking. Could have been the particular manager trying to boost her happy customer numbers, who knows. I've had sprint for 12 years, and have had SERO for 5+ of those. Still not sure why she did it, but I'm happy.
Heck, if it doesn't get you the free replacement outcome, go to a non-repair center store and try the same thing, as if you didn't know it was a non-repair store.

I guess lost things can be found...as far as ethics go we are talking about insurance, that in itself teeters on ethical behavior. we pay the premiums and sometimes need to utilize their "services". they will find a way to raise the price anyway if they need to.

I JUST HAD A WHOLE THREAD ON THIS WHY DIDN'T YOU SEARCH? It cost about 178.50 to repair per my conversation with Samsung, and this covers next day shipping there and back. I went to a Sprint Corporate store to get a repair because it was a minor crack that left the phone operating flawlessly. The tech told me that "Sprint" has a no repair on phones for some strange reason they are not allowed to repair phones.
Since Sprint is an Agent for Asurion insurance the are making money on the 150.00 deductible, and taking your phone and repairing these crack to make profit. So in essence the 11.00 fee is just gravy on top of that.
Drop insurance and just pay Sammy to fix it....the nerve of Sprint over charging for minor repairs like a cracked glass. I found an official front glass cover for 25.00. To repair it should not coast much, but you need an official repair or it may void the Samsung warranty.

Reporting the phone lost when it's not and getting a new one with insurance is really unethical and also probably illegal. If you're going to do that, though, might as well "cleanse" the ESN of the old one and sell it on ebay for $500-600.
i had sprint for 2 years now and i had over 12 replacements. I started off with htc evo and they kept braking down and I would just take it to tech people and they replaced for free and then as replacement. I got htc evo 3d and then had few of them kept braking down or something then I got a moto photon and i was really dropped it and cracked screen they had extra photon that was going back for something other bad and he swapped screen onto my photon and went thought few more and then i got a SGS2 as a replacement. Everyone was shocked I got it as a replacement from sprint and then I havent spent anything to replace or fix my cell yet and now renewed my contract and got SGS3 and i love it
sprint been best service I have had for phones (I use to work for tmobile ......and had custom plan...)

I must have missed something, what would have SEARCHING done in my case? Or, how would it have changed my post in response to this person's problem? Please enlighten me.
I've been with T-Mobile insurance, Asurion since the G1. I'm planning on getting the Nexus 4 (THIS IS NOT A NEXUS 4 THREAD DO NOT TURN IT INTO ONE!!!!) should I drop the T-Mobile insurance and go with a different company... Options I have looked up are SquareTrade & Ensquared. If you know of another company I'm all ears. Thanks.
Ive heard that you can even insure it through some companies like state farm or whatever. Dont quote me on it, someone told me that a while back but I never looked into it. If they do id imagine its an addon type thing....

Dont rely only on me, but I am pretty sure they will, so long as you are on a monthly plan, not prepaid. Verify that though!
I have heard a few times that using Asurion is a bit more expensive than other options, just fyi. It is convenient though.
Ya I'm going to ask a dude I know that works for them tomorrow. It is cheaper with the other companies with a cheaper deductible it seems, well I'll see what he says and go from there.

I use "I take extreme care for my devices and know how to fix them should something happen to them insurance" for all insurance companies rip you off. I'll tell you my story with my HTC touch pro 2 that I had gotten replaced via insurance.....
(Short version)
Phone flew down steps landed on concrete floor. Turned into confetti.
Called asurion. 100 bucks for deductible. After paying over 200 in monthly bills.(could have bought a brand new one from eBay for 150 at the time, didn't realize this till after I replaced it)
Got replacement, didn't work. Got second replacement. Still didn't work. Got third replacement(was extremely pissed by now) and ripped apart both 2nd replacement and 3rd and combined all the good parts to make a good phone.
And ever since then, I will never waste my money on insurance for my phone. It's nothing but a waste of money.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Ya I understand all that lol. But I go out and camp, fish, go boating, drink, and house parties and what not (immature 23 year old) so I've used my insurance a few times; once with my G1 (stolen) twice with my MyTouch 3G (stolen, and then dropped which caused a weird ear piece sound while on call). So I like insurance and haven't been screwed over. Never had any issues with my G2X or the S3 so I've grown up a little and love my phones more now, haha.
I was going to ask the same thing but given that you asked it already, I'd like to see other responses. So far I've only had SquareTrade Warranty on multiple devices. I still haven't had to file a claim but the thing that I like is if I sell one of my devices, I can cancel my plan and get a prorated refund. I'm not sure if other companies do that.
I recently got my Samsung Galaxy S3 and haven't made a decision on what company to choose. Ensquared is cheaper and they claim to cover theft and accidental, all for $59 for 1 year. If anybody has dealt with them, can you please give us some insight?
which insurance do you guys recommend for my new note 2 in case it gets stolen or lost?
also i got my daughter an iphone 5(i couldn't convince her to get the s3 instead), so i need insurance for it as well in case it is lost or stolen.
Thanks

best insurance I found is worth ave group.
with coupon codes its $66.20 a year for $2000 in coverage unlimited usage and $25 deductible.
Covers damage and theft but not loss then again if its lost IT IS stolen so file a police report.
sprints TEP is $11 a month in other words $132 a year AND the deductible is $200 !!! and IIRC you can only use it once a year (I could be wrong on that)
I think worth without coupon code is $75 a year or something like that. way way cheaper and better than sprints tep and it covers all your toys (I have all my phones my laptop and my camera's on it)
just sign up for the student plan.
Squaretrade
I have had no problems with squaretrade

Sprint total protection.
Applies gps to your phone if lost, can track from your pc and they give you a new phone if broken.

It is $11 for the note 2...and the gps tracking is optional. If you don't set it up before hand it won't work. Not to mention most stolen phones are either imediately turned off or hard reset. (though I have talked to a few people that have found their phone this way)

your right sorry
they do not
Sprints coverage has 2 parts. One is insurance and the other is tep. The insurance is from asurion, you pay 200 and they ship you a new phone and you get it by the next business day. The tep which is total equipment protection is used whenever you have a problem with your phone that isn't covered under warranty anymore. For example if your speaker goes out they will fix it for free or if like me your screen starts messing up they will get you a whole new phone. If not for that then I would have to take the Samsung warranty and they ask that you mail it to them, wait while they fix it and then they ship it back. It can take from 2 to 3 weeks. Sprint will still check your phone but fixing it will cost 35 or more I believe. I think its 8 for insurance and 5 for tep, but I believe the insurance used to be 6. Not quite sure about any of this as it is just off the top of my head. I do know that the 11 or 13 package has 2 parts.
I have best buy insurance. $169 one time charge (you can opt for monthly) and no deductible ever.
Guaranteed 5 day turn around, they give you a loaner in the meantime.
I don't think they cover theft, perhaps if you have a police report.

best buy does not cover lost or stolen
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Best buy covers absolutely everything except lost or stolen. Unlimited claims and no deductible! They order you a new phone and give you a loaner If you need one. As far as lost or stolen, if you have their geek squad, there is a free app called locked And found that tracks where your phone is and takes pictures of what it sees with the front facing camera (a thiefs face maybe?) and reports to a website only you have access to.
For those who have the protection plan get a hold of your gsp# off your receipt because the app asks for it, or call best buy mobile.

The best buy program is junk. I had it and tried to get it fixed while traveling. First of all the replacement store would only give me a loner if I was able to return it to the same store. Now someone traveling like I was is screwed plus the loner was any phone not the same phone. The second issue was they said my phone wasn't broke enough because my problem was intermittent. They actually told me to go back to the parking and break the screen then they would replace it.

Not trying to be a argumentative but I don't think your complaints are valid.
1) I understand requiring you to return to the same store is not as convenient as possible... but creating the infrastructure to manage inter-store returns for loaner require technology investments which would surely increase the cost of insurance. Besides, most insurance programs don't even have this feature. It's inconvenient for travelers but making accomodations for such cases may not necessarily be worth the investment.
Also, loaners are temporary. To match your phone... and everyone else's, best buy must have at least one of every phone ever, for each store. (At least within the last two years). Do you expect them to open a new box everytime they dont have a matching loaner availabe?...assuming they even have them in stock?
As per your second complaint I don't know what the problem was, but bb doesn't automatically do replacements. .. instead will do repairs on fixable problems. Correct me but I believe that's what happened. They offered to do a repair but you wanted a replacement.
I think the only thing you can criticize bb for is they were asking you to commit insurance fraud.

its not even insurance. its a protection plan. similar, but not the same thing. i dont know if you can call it insurance fraud unless it is underwritten by an indemnity company.
that being said, you are correct, sir.
Sprint TEP + Kaspersky One, insurance and the ability to track, lock and wipe your phone.
You can also take pictures of the person using it.

Yea, but when I had it replace they said my warranty is intact if replaced by them so I don't know ...It's worth the 178 bucks they pretty much only keep the outer shell of your own phone and the some parts back cover and battery and sylus but pretty much the whole lcd assmbly is replace no heating nothing they just move some stuff over and give you back your phone...The guy did it in 30mins.
Be careful to now allow the technician to scratch or dent any part of your phone. Just a heads up if you are planning to swap displays.

I don't understand your logic. They WANT your phone to have problems so that they can charge you additional fees for repairs, why would they prevent future repairs? What is the point for them to save money? They WANT money. That is why they are doing the business!!
FWIW the screen & front glass module are separate from the chassis, unlike the S3. I was really happy to find that out Unfortunately, the glass and screen are fused together though.
Seeing the S3 screen removal videos it gets pretty ugly with those.
Same thing happened to me but i was told since i have insurance to just file a claim with asurion and they would cover it for 130. Tmo wouldnt do it cause i couldnt get the stupid binary count back down to 0 even though i used triangle away app. I did read that sometimes it knows it down, sometimes it stays at 1, and sometimes it doesnt work at all. So i tried and it didnt work. But asurion wont care if youre rooted or not. Same price. $130 if you have them as your insurance.

Just got a letter in the mail from T-Mo. Insurance is going up to $11 (or $12?)/month with a $175 deductible beginning March for the Note 2. I'm dropping the insurance. Ain't worth it.
I'm dropping insurance around May/June that way if something happens to my device I'll just buy a new device altogether. I personally believe more people would use insurance of all types if the premiums weren't so high AND you got back at least half your money per year if you don't file a claim only seems fair

I just made an insurance claim through T-Mobile because my wife dropped her GS3 and cracked the screen. The phone still works but I don't want her walking around with a ghetto ass cracked screen. I had to make the claim directly through T-Mobile instead of Asheron because when we purchased our GS3's the REP removed the insurance and they had to re-add it a couple weeks later. No problem making the claim but they told me that I had to ship the broken phone back to them. My question is....Do I really need to ship the broken phone back? What if she had lost the phone and didn't have a phone to ship back. What if we don't ship the phone back? What are they going to do?

If the phone gets lost or stolen you have to pay a deductible. Don't quote me on that though. That's just how I remember it being a few years ago. And if you send the one with the broken screen back then they might charge you as well because you're the one that broke it. Like I said, that's how I remember it used to be. I don't know if it still works the same.
They send you a new or refurbished phone. Around a year ago I had a problem with my Galaxy S2, and they shipped me a new phone in less than 24 hours. I went through T-Mobile, not the insurance place. You get the phone in the mail and there are instructions on how you send the defective phone back. If you don't send the defective phone back, you will be charged full price for the Galaxy S3. Also, it has to be shipped back within 24 hours. In my opinion, it's a great deal. When I sent my GS2 back, I was told I could keep the battery, which was kick ass. Why wouldn't you want to send the phone back after the new one arrives?

That sounds like a warranty exchange and not an insurance claim.. when they do warranty swaps you keep the battery and back cover.

I had to pay a deductible of $130. What happens if she lost the phone? Would they charge you a higher deductible due to not being able to return a phone? The reason I ask is because I think it's silly that they want the broken phone back after I paid a deductible. They are going to ship the phone back to Samsung and then Samsung is going to replace the glass which I'm sure cost less than $130 so in the end, T-Mobile actually makes money off my deductible. I my wife were to lose the phone in the beginning then I would have no phone to return and I'm pretty sure T-Mobile would have charged me the same deductible. Maybe my wife just may have to lose the phone tomorrow within the next couple days or so.
I think they charge it to your cell phone bill if you don't send it back

Go ahead and tell them it's lost, but your imei will be blocked. And being you are changing your story, more than likely you will be investigated for insurance fraud.
Is it really worth it?

Hence the reason deductubles are increasing

Thanks for committing fraud you guys. You rock!
Lol wanting to keep 2 phones how awesome!! You might get charge but more importantly your cracked phone will be a mp3 player. As other dude stated your IMEI will be block from your old phone. At the end of the day is not the company's fault that the phone drop but the person who did it, paying for insurance is not expensive.
believe I'm not defending them because they are money grabbing idiots either way, but your asking for wayyy too much.
