I used to get so so signal here at my home on all of my old sprint phones, since getting the note 2, I get call drops left and right.
Seems phones get made cheaper and sell for more money,so annoyed
Is there a question in there somewhere?

Mine seems to work fine. Same reception as my S3. Call in and get an Airave if reception is bad. Might help.

This post was a fail .... so I just get that someone wanted to complain about the best phone out right now ....
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
No this post is not a fail, and yes there is a question hence the question marks!
If there is a low or no signal area that I'm in, I should at least roam right?
Well I DON'T which makes me believe that hardware is indeed failing.
Was looking for some insight on the situation not a bashing.
I guess I should of been more clear with the question,my bad, now can we move on with help possibly?
The phone is back on stock ma7 unrooted, the phone bounces to 4g to nothing but a circle with a slash through it.When the phone gets the circle with a slash there is no data or phone call capability, seems to bounce back forth every couple of minutes like somthing is turning off the modem.
Forgive me for being a noob and I hope that is a technical enough explination of what my problem is.
Ask around your neighborhood friends if they have horrible service if so change carriers if not take it in make sure you have screenshots of it happening so you wont have an issue replacing the phone.

Guys, there might be something to this. Think of the "bad apples" case.
My phone was rocking until I did the MC2 update. After that I stopped getting calls.
Updated profile, thought it was fixed. Next day find out the hard way it wasn't - almost with a side of divorce.
Spent the night trying to figure out what it was and best conclusion is something corrupted the EFS data.
Only true solution was to ##72786# and let it re-activate.
Even then I see it miss a call from time to time.
Don't think it's modem related, happened on MC2 and MA7.
Also know Billard412 had his EFS data hosed more than once with no explanation.

Now that you mention it I suppose that's what my issue was as well. I didn't even think about it that I had recently changed to Ma7(I attributed it to the LTE work they are doing all around my area, although it hasn't hit within 2-3miles of my place yet it is just on the out skirts of that) And I was getting chewed out constantly for not answering the call. Which to my knowledge had never happend

Thanks for the info Garwynn I'm glad I'm not the only one this is happening to.I almost had a side of divorce too
I just did the re-activate and will see tomorrow if it works.
Well after fighting with sprint for weeks they finally admitted that some early model note 2's have defective antennas and replaced mine with a new one free of charge
So if you have an early model original software LJC,I bought mine in january and are having problems like I did go there and state your case and hopefully you'll get yours replaced with a brand new one,not refurbished.
It is weird hearing my phone ring now, I almost thought it was on the radio!
I think I'll be taking mine tomorrow. No inbound calls/push notifications again for 3 hrs, had working 4g oddly enough.

Good luck man
Thank you guys for posting this! I have had terrible call reception as of late and data has been super spotty. I even flashed back to the MA7 radio at one point to see if it helped.
I did the HFA (Hands Free Activation) like 5x in the past 3 days. Still total crap. I did a speed test side by side with my wife's iPhone 5. She was getting 900kbps-1.1mbps, I was pulling 54kbps-65kbps. :/
So, I tried restoring just the efs backup from my prior older MA7 based nandroid. After reboot I was pulling 650kbps to 1mbps on my speed tests. I don't know if it's just a placebo, or if it helped etc. It seems to be making a difference so far though.

Those of us coming from the Moment were constantly being told that by Sprint regarding the radio lock up issue. They never did fix it. It wasn't until the devs at SDX got 2.2 onto the phone that the issue went away.
I have also found that tweeting complaints to www.twitter.com/samsungsupport during business hours will get a quick response, which results in escalation of real issues.

i just got off the phone with sprint and they told me that samsung pushed an update on friday to fix a delay in receiving text messages which has borked the internal antenna. that would explain why i only started having problems yesterday.... sprint will give you a ticket number and they will fix your phone for free at a store.
call up and get it fixed.

Its not a showstopper and it doesnt happen on all devices. So if it happens when you get it use your 30 swap to get a new replacement. It hasnt happened on mine at all. Also there is going to be a fix... So, with all of that said I cannot think of a single thing that should cause anyone to decide not to get this and choose another phone. Thx

This is a total show stopper, I have 2 of these and they both do it constantly. I cant even surf for more then 10 minutes without it happening to both units. I cant make calls, I cant receive calls, cant go online, cant use streaming music, cant use navigation. total waste at this point. I love the phone physically and its great when on WiFi but that's only 1/4 of the day. I am not taking a chance of getting stuck with a phone that I cant even make calls on. maybe I will try again once everything gets fixed but for now its not worth the trouble.

You have something seriously wrong with yours then. I've had mine since launch and it's done it twice. You should exchange yours.
I rooted my phone and got this for the first time the next day. Hasn't happened before that. Didn't even know what you guys were seeing until it happened. I just got a zero with a line across the middle of it in my top bar and my signal bar and data icon were gone.
Is that what people are getting also that have not rooted their phone? When I say not rooted, not the people who rooted then installed the stock kernal back on. People who never rooted in the first place. That is what I would like to know.
Mine did it once before rooting, once after.
And yes, it happened just like you described. I thought rooting and flashing Zedo v3 fixed it, but it didn't.

Cool, I hope it is device problem and not just a rooting problem. This way we can get a fix for it from Samsung, hopefully.
I have it on good authority it will be fixed in the first software update from Sprint. No idea when that will be though. It's not a rooting problem.

@GalaxyDev
Your problems are very likely caused by "making it work" on different carriers. There must be some settings that are just not correct. As for the radio on the Epic 4g Touch, I agree it is weak. But since the EL29 update and beyond, the radio performance has improved GREATLY and it works as it should now. The Motorola Photon has the BEST radio of any Sprint phone I've ever used. Side by side comparisons proved that to me. The Phonton is a cdma/gsm global device so it's something you might want to consider.

Did you ever think it might not be the phone and maybe the fact that your using it in a different country than it was designed for and on a different carrier than intended? No of course not, in fact, everyone on this forum and the millions of other who bought this phone have the exact same issues as you but we just put up with because the phones so great...
Idk if some of you have heard about the "ghost touch" thing where sometimes when you turn on the screen it'd be like someone was pushing on some of your capacitive buttons and you wouldn't be able to touch or do anything on the screen. Turning off the screen for a couple seconds and turning it on again helps alleviate the problem for me.
How common of a problem is this? It seems that this never used to happen until ICS came around. Is it due to software or hardware like a bad digitizer? Is this something that I should be worried about hardware wise because I'm planning on hanging onto this phone for at least another 6 months and warranty's going to be up soon in a week or two. I'm using The Goodness ROM and agat's kernel if that matters at all. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

After trying to figure out what nearby was causing the RF intererence so I could eliminate it, I found this thread which explains that the interference originates in the phones 3G radio, not the environment. I just recently started having this problem, and from reading that thread, I think I didn't notice it before only because I was using a kernel with a fix integrated. So if you are having this problem and don't want to do surgery on your phone, maybe try to find a kernel with the software patch.

This has been happening like crazy lately, ever since Hurricane Sandy and also since running the FK09 JB leak. The Sprint signal in my area went from bad to garbage since the hurricane, not sure if the JB leak is also adding to it or not.
It is so annoying I am tempted to actually buy a different phone even though I love the E4GT.

Agreed Sprint screwed NJ hard as AT&T and Verizon restored services within a week...
On a side note, AT&T's LTE was up and running within 48 hours...Dunno about Verizon cause most of my friends have iPhone's with them. But I was roaming on Verizon full bars the whole time. But guess what happened when I tried to make a call? "Welcome to Verizon, please have a phone card or credit card at handy to make a call". I have roaming under my plan and I would like to use it...especially not crapping out in emergencies.

I have been having a lot of problems with my new honey, namely in the signal department! I went through a whole thing with it right after activation...it worked, then didn't, then did...etc. A chat session, phone call, & 2 trip to the actual store (all in 1 day!) resulted in them doing a factory reset and sending me on my looney way. It seemed to have helped, for about a day and a half. Now it is dropping signal again! It seems to do so, sometimes, when I have the wifi on. But then sometimes not (I'm not sure if wifi is culprit or coincidence.)
The ATT store employees said I may have changed a setting (I'm sure I didn't as I don't know of any setting that would even cause that!) and also "explained" my signal will naturally fluctuate...(They think I am an idiot, obviously and of course the phone was working fine when I was there...duh!) They also gave me a new sim card.
I *really* want to love this phone! But I'm finding it frustratingly undependable. Texts won't send when I need them to. I'm not getting them either, always. Voice is hit or miss when it drops (sometimes it works, sometimes not.) I have ALSO noticed the signal is not as strong as my old beloved Cappy. That thing was a horse (and I'm thinking of going back to it if this new one doesn't wise up!) Seriously, $300 bucks for a brand new phone & it can't keep a proper signal?
Is it the radio? Is it the software (still 100% stock, unrooted)? Should I make them give me a new one? What if it doesn't work, either? Flashing it to fix the issue is fine for me, but I've been holding out for multi-view before I get flash-crazy. lol Not to mention I may have to return it so better to not mess with it [yet]. I'm very frustrated & tired of getting looked upon like I'm the typical woman idiot who is not as smart as her new smartphone!!! I am NOT imagining it!!!

Sounds like your antennae is shorting out or something like it wasn't soldered properly or the cable isn't secure. Would explain why WiFi affects it. I'd go there and demand a replacement and if they don't wanna budge your within 30 day no questions return. Then go to a diff store and get a new one. I really don't see it being a software issue.

Is it possible that whatever the problem was, it miraculously resolved itself? I had it drop signal two more times since this post, then nothing since. It's been working perfectly. I hate to keep it if it might arise again but I hate to return it if it was some weird fluke thing.
This may or may not be related to the above problem: has anyone noticed their reception is not as good as on a previous device? I had a Cappy and it always got great signal. I noticed this one is not as strong in the same places I previously visited with my old phone. Although admittedly, it seems to be improving. Does that even make sense or is even possible? Just like me, my phone has to be the goofball of the bunch!

Haha I'm glad its working better but I still think it may be hardware related. I get better signal now with this device then my sIII or my note before it. Have ya done anything to your phone at all? Root mod etc?

Nope. I've done nothing because I'm having this returning debate. lol I'm itching to though!
This is classic "my car doesn't work so take it to the garage then it works fine and they will make fun of you" If I do return it what do I say? It is documented about my "troubles" as per the ATT phone rep. Though if I can't reproduce the problem they're just going to send me on my way, I'm afraid.

With enough "negotiating" they'll take it back haha. Plus are you still within your no ask return window? Just explain how its sporatic but annoying to the point its not functional for reliable use and they should do something within their power to help ya out

You spent enough money on the device, you should be absolutely happy with it, not apprehensive. If you wait past the return date, it's going to sit in the pit of your stomach for 20 months and ruin your enjoyment of it until you can upgrade again. Not worth it. Smile your brightest smile, walk into the store, very nicely tell them that you've had multiple issues and the AT&T phone reps said to go in and ask for an exchange. That's it. They're going to count on you being intimidated and going away. Smile, be nice, and don't be intimidated.
If they say you have to reproduce the problem, invite them to spend the day with you. The Note 2 is amazing and you shouldn't settle if you believe your hardware is having problems.

Yes. I have decided to take it in later today, as my 14 days is up on Friday. I hope they have stock of them. Anyhow...I have another question. If a phone is sitting still with no movement (and the weather is good, lol) will there be variations in signal strength? I get 3 bars with 4G showing, then it drops to one tiny bar. Sometimes the 4G disappears then reappears. The it will go back up to 4 bars. All in the course 5 minutes! I do realize signal will vary with movement but will it if your phone is just sitting there?
I am trying to experiment a little. I just realized/remembered that I had (uneventfully) dropped my phone (not hard, in-case) about the same time as my dropped signal problem pretty much resolved itself. So then I was like, hmm, maybe there IS something loose inside. I've tried gently shaking/jarring it here on my desk, coincidentally with the bars dropping back to just 1 as a result. But then again it may be coincidental as they are seeming to waiver A LOT. I just wondered if it is normal.
I never really stared at my old phone (Galaxy1) here at my desk but I'm almost positive it always had more than 1 bar at this same location and I never noticed it waiver like this one. But like I said I never had to make myself stare at it to check, either! lol Just wondering if someone knows a little more about cellphone signal 101 than me.
I have the issue of no 4G HSPA+ but I can get a strong LTE signal when in an LTE reception area. I'm wondering if you are in an LTE area and can get LTE? Where are you located?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I have noticed problems with my GN2 as well. Mine shows I have signal but my data stalls or doesn't seem to work as it should. I'm in an area where there shouldn't be any problems. Only seems to happen in non LTE areas. Whenever I have LTE signal this thing is blazing fast.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Update: Took the phone in. Basically, they had never heard of the issue with this phone. But...I walked away with a replacement. So far so good though I've had it only a few hours. The girl was very nice & explained even though I was borderline limit she would take care of me. I told her I received it Fri the 9th but she said they were basing the 14 days on the 7th! I said I didn't physically have it till the 9th! Jeeze. Moot point since she was going to take care of it anyhow but it just concerned me how (corporate) att could chop 2 days of my in-store return time!
So no, I'm not in LTE land, unfortunately. 3g H+ & E only though I can't complain about the coverage or speed. Good enough for me 4 sure.
The signal bars waivered quite a bit even while in the store. They said while some fluctuation is normal it shouldn't be as much as it was doing especially with the close proximity of the tower & good weather and especially while just sitting on the counter.
I downloaded the free app "No Signal Alert" from the Play Store. In just a few hours it recorded lost signal 4 times! (In a very good coverage area) [my first phone b4 the exchange] Consider using it if you want to see if you are losing signal like I was. Handy app!
Hopefully this is a good one. I know it sounds goofy but this phone seems to even move faster than the other. Weird. It will be interesting to hear if anyone else is having this problem. Maybe there was a bad batch of them or something? Like the Nexus I read about & their signal problems.

Haha im glad that they helped ya! No its not goofy or silly to think that one phones faster then another because no two phones are alike. The silicone chips are very different and performance can very greatly. I had an s3 that wouldnt take custom kernels to save its life but I got it replaced after a two year old and a toilet incident haha and that one took even the most abusive settings in stride!

I have a similar situation with mine. LTE will be working fine but then I notice that once I connect to my home wifi and then either leave my wifi range or turn off wifi the LTE icon will show in the status bar and it will show that it's sending and receiving data but Web pages will stall and never load, Play Store will timeout, and SpeedTest.net will start up but the needle will freeze about 1/8 of the way up indefinitely. I've toggled data at this point but it never fixes it, I have to restart the phone at which point LTE works perfectly but once I get back on my wifi the cycle will repeat, this has happened reliably for about the past week.
Do you all think I have a defective radio or am I missing something? I'm still within my return Window and will probably swap it Friday.

Sounds very similar to how mine is acting. I'm wondering if it is the ATT smart WiFi app causing the problem. Shows data incoming and outgoing but stalls.

That's exactly how it's acting for me. I just now disabled the AT&T Smart WiFi app and after a quick restart and toggle test there was no problems, but I'm not sure if the problem will only pop up after I've been on wifi for a while. I'm going to see if it keeps doing it tomorrow.

Disabling Smart WiFi appeared to fix the problem.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
What I noticed today is that when this same issue happens, with 4G icon and wifi icon both active, it occurs after I manually check for a firmware update within the system settings. The 4G icon doesn't go away until I reset the phone.
Also I manually deleted the all the AT&T boat ware apps before this was happening so the smart wifi app is not causing this for me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Weird, if you get the issue and don't have the Smart WiFi app then it must be something else and it was coincidence that it worked normal for me today. I've only checked for firmware once (when I first got my phone) so it must be something else causing it. I'm hoping the multi view firmware will also have a fix for it.

Okay, so I've been on Tmobile since taking the dive into the wonderful world of Android. I had the S2 for a few months and thdn after becoming infatuated I went out and got me an S3. Recently I decided to move on to Sprint as the coverage I received at work was, well, nonexistent. So, I am completely new to CDMA and my beautiful new Note 2, and after reading through the forums I've discovered that I am bout back to square one. Well, maybe not entirely, but definitely been knocked back quite a bit. Which when considering I've only been involved in the xda community for about 9 months pretty much leaves me with the feeling that I'm stuck in Paris with no map and no translator. So, I was hoping I could reach out to the wise and informed members of xda and ask a broad, but simple, question. What do I need to know so I don't F up my new mistress? I'm not asking for a tutorial on rooting or flashing, nothing generic. Just some helpful specifics. I saw somewhere that they were talking about resetting Wallet before flashing a new ROM or else it may be blocked on the phone, I guess, forever. I'm also unfamiliar with the modems and the updates yall have gotten. Etc, etc. And as I said, not looking for another, what is the benefit of rooting, what is CWM and TWRP, can I get rid of all the darned Sprint apps baloney. I was just hoping to basically just kinda do a crash course intro, a CDMA and/or L900 101 kinda thing so to speak. Any info you can offer up would be greatly appreciated!

The worst part about the android community, unfortunately, is the fragmentation of general knowledge. The rooting process for a Nexus is probably identical to a Note 2 but the names of everything and builds and versions are all different, so you have to learn new 'words' like it is a new language. Fortunately you have a great community so you just have to learn how to search for things. Check the general section for android development I think there is a sticky that has a glossory of terms that explains all the acronyms.
I've had mine for 3 months but I would still welcome a crash course as well.
Well I prefer twrp as my custom recovery. Depending on your firmware version you can root without your phone ever going to download mode. I did. I used exynos abuse to get root. Then used mobile odin to flash a new rom. Always reset google wallet if you are reseting or flashing a new rom. Its tempermental. I would stay around only the sprint veraion for now. There is a way to use roms from other note 2 variants. I believe its in the dev section. Recovery is standalone. So swirching roms doesnt change it. You cannot talk on the phone and be on the internet at the same time unless you are using wifi or 4glte. If you like to draw or doodle there is sketchbook mobile which is awesome. Btw ma7 is the most current firmware that I know of. Also you can sideload the google wallet apk with no extra work to get it working. Goodluck and read alot.

You need root to do most modifications to your phone. I find that I need root for everyday stuff too (Titanium backup, Stweaks, Root app delete, etc).

ClockWork Mod and TeamWin Recovery Project. Both have custom recovery pieces. I personally had some troubles with CWM on this phone and just use Odin now. I head TWRP works better than CWM on the Note 2, but Odin is the Tool Samsung suggests. Note that TWRP is MUCH more feature-rich than Odin. You might choose TWRP (or CWM) if you wanted to flash stuff from your SD card rather than from your PC- good for jumping around between kernels on the fly, for example.
Odin and the other two are all ways to flash stuff to your phone. That's all Odin does; the other two have lots more features.

Heck yeah! Simplest way is to root it and uninstall everything you don't like (Root App Delete from the Play Store seems to work pretty well; be sure you have a backup before you start blowing stuff away).
If you'd like to take it a step further, get a custom ROM that's been debloated; they normally require a full wipe, so bye bye sprint stuff. (Again, root it and back it up first!)

I appreciate you taking the time to go through all that, but I think maybe I didn't explain too well what I was trying to get. I wasn't asking for the general info, just things specific to CDMA and the L900. Like what was replying about. Not trying to be a jerk, but I know there's already a thousand threads on recoverys, ROMs, and rooting. Just didn't wanna do anything to my phone that would be irreversible (i.e. The resetting Google Wallet thing) or something that would cause signal issues (I read stuff on flashing certain ROMs on certain modems may create issues). Stuff like that. Like I said though appreciate the time you took, and any info you may have like that would certainly be appreciated.

Oh I forgot. If you are on ljc expect to not go back to it if you update to ma7. For some reason lots of people have had trouble going back. It would cause slot of problems. Ma7 is just fine for me though. Great battery life and what not. I would say do the update. If you are going custom rom and are currently unrooted just do the ota. Or there is a firmware file around here to flash. I updated firmware before going to ma7. Although I was already rooted using exynos abuse. Ma7 eliminates the exploit. So be prepared to do that before going to ma7. If there is anything I am missing that you still need answers to or don't understand just ask. Its also a good habit to update profile and prl when switching roms or modems.

I picked up something along those lines from reading around. It took all of 15 minutes out of the box before I got all rooted with new ROMs being flashed after playing around on stock just to get a baseline with all the ROM hoping that was sure to follow. Needless to say I didn't read up on anything modem wise before doing all this as I, admittedly, jumped the gun a little (I was just so excited to have a whole new community with new dev teams and all these foreign ROMs to explore). I used Max's trusty galaxynote2root site to root (love that guy). And used the GalaxyNote2RootSprint.zip to obtain root. Then, went straight into the original development section and immediately flashed the absolutely amazing Liquid Smooth. Now I should say, I did receive a message saying the was an update to the phone through sprint and I did proceed with the OTA while dling the zip and giving root instructions a quick once over. So, I'm guessing that took care of going to ma7 for me? Cuz I'm definitely using the ma7 modem. Now I did leave my beloved aosp as I did want to see if I would actually use all the S pen features that aosp sadly doesn't offer us. I jumped around from Whapasaurous to Venom Ice a d finally to Macks All Star, but I'm assuming that unless it's totally different from GSM that flashing a new ROM has no effect on your modem (but by all means correct me if I'm wrong). So just wanna make sure I went about things the right way here.
P. S. I did use the zip to revert the sd cards file format when returning from aosp so I didn't have to deal with all that "0" and "legacy" nonsense.
Thanks again!

I really only made the move due to the fact that T-mobile is the only service provider that gets absolutely no coverage inside my work, and, unfortunately, I work 12 hour days, 4-5 days a week. So, being as my contract was up, I didn't wanna sign up for 2 more years with lte "coming soon." I know you all with Sprint know how that has the possibility of turning out. Plus, just because they were getting lte doesn't mean I'm going to see any improvement at work. Now I'm getting consistent 3g inside work and I'm loving it. Actually typing this inside, infamously, the worst service area in the entire building and still getting an almost constant connection. Occasionally I am getting 4g, not often, but it's happened. Playing around with modems tonight though. Did end up trying LJC after being on MA7,no problems so far, actually seeing improvement. Thanks for the heads up on the Sprint Connection Optimizer, gonna check that out now. Super annoying, especially as I do work 12 hour shifts and with wifi turning randomly on, don't wanna look to see my battery down to nada. That's just the kinda info I was hoping to get here, thanks again!

Yeah the wifi thing Will kill your battery. Sprint is not as bad as everyone thinks and says I have great LTE in 90% of where I go. I'm thinking of going to T-Mobile because I'm sick of cdma devices we are always are considered last ro none over GSM. If sprint keeps up the good work with the LtE and 3g ill be saying. Glad you hot it figured out for rh the most part.
