Hello all,
Is there a ROM that exists for 7105 that has 422 and the samsung apps ? Or at least replacement apps for the stylus app and handwritten text recognition and the samsung keyboard where the numbers are always there ?
I understand the idea behind the CM rom which is to keep it identical on all devices but to me it takes out the great advantage of the 7105 which is the stylus, i find it very convenient to write with the stylus and if it's not possible because CM devs don't want to adapt their rom to this particular feature I have to look somewhere else.
The roms based on 412 are good but they would be better with a 422 base
In the worst case are there any plans from Samsung to release a 422 rom or are we forgotten now that they've switched their focus to the SG4 ?
I come from HTC with a DHD and what the devs are making with this device is truly amazing like having roms BASED on CM but modded to adapt them to the DHD and so I was wondering if it was possible to get the same system on the 7105 ?
Thanks a lot
It is not possible. It's not the devs.

Hello,
Thanks for the bad news, better than no news I guess
Just out of curiosity, what's the ptoblem ?
The samsung specific drivers from the spen wont work in 422 (but do in 412) ?
Thanks
No its the proprietary touch wiz code.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Ah, so we need a touchwiz code which is compatible with 422 or is it impossible to extract the touchwiz code from the official roms ?
Sorry for the stupid questions but I'm trying to learn something there
Would it help if we start some noise with Samsung for them to work on their code from 412 so that it can be used in 422 ? After all there must not be that many differences in this specific area from 412 to 422 ?
Thanks
Edit : Apparently Samsung will release 422 for SGS3 and SGN2 in "May-June"....good
I think extracting the code would cause legal problems or something and the code is not cross compatible between android version.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
OK, thanks for the news, since Samsung SHOULD (that's what they've said) update the devices in "may/june" I'll just wait for that and use CM without the samsung apps or cleanrom ace without the 422 goodies.....Life is hard....
But then again, it's just a phone ha ha ha
FYI a dual boot kernel is being worked upon by using which you can run both samsung and custom firmware.

Argh ...
Shame on you, now you've got me all winded up again, I was ready to calm down and wait UP TO 2 MONTHS, but of course now I want this dual boot kernel NOW !!!
Your fault
So....hem....where can I find some infos on this ?
Thanks

I was going to try and port the dual boot feature from the s3 siyah kernel with the help of Gokhan Moral, i have got a stock N2 kernel ready to compile ect, but i cant find any compiler that works on the note 2 kernel, i can only find one for the s2 (my current phone).
I found a guide on setting up a universal kernel compiling environment, but the is so many things to install, it is taking me ages to set up

Can we get a nice clear post in from a dev about a) whether or it's a definite possiblity we can get the GN2 dualbooting? and b) what needs doing? (Many thanks to fishingfon for what we have so far). The thought of flipping from PA over to a TW rom for Spen functionality on the fly is awesome
Its also my understanding that the spen stuff is an issue because of the source availability? up samsungs basically.....

Hi,
I talked with Gokhan Moral (he is a elite recognised dev) about the possibility of getting dual boot on the note 2.
And he said that as the hardware is very simple to the s3, it shouldn't be too hard to get the dual boot from his siyar kernel working on the note 2.
And seeing that dual boot is available on the s3 and note 1, it is almost definitely possible to get it working on the note 2
If anyone knows of a compiler that works with the note 2 kernel, i would be very grateful if they could share it.
Cheers
Corey
Edit:
It's my understanding, that you can get everything you need to make the kernel, from the source code that samsung has provided, and by extracting some things like the initramfs from the ZImage. So you should still get full spen functionality, although I may be wrong

If someone could help me find out two things, I wouldn then be able to start trying to compile the dual boot kernel I am trying to make.
I have googled lots ect and asked on xda, but no one seems to know.
If someone could help try and find out:
Firstly, what The N7100 partition layout is,
And secondly, if someone could find out how to then edit the Ramfs from a different device with the new partition layout from the note 2.
Cheers

I wish Dual boot and Voodoo sound gets ported to Note2 ASAP. I seems to have posted elsewhere but I did discuss the possibilities with Gokhanmoral and he may be willing to help us in the port as he personally do not wish to develop a kernel for a device he do not own.
Siyah's port of Voodoo sound is already available for us through the latest RedPill and Perseus kernels, however dual boot option is yet to be ported. I wish to contribute towards the development if I could help in anyway.

Hi,
I am already in the process of porting the dual boot.
I have changed the partition layout in the ramfs, and I am at the moment just going thru all the files double checking I didn't miss anything..
If the dual boot does work when I have finished (fingers crossed lol) then I could really use someone who knows how to add cm sources to the kernel, so that dual boot is possible with cm and stock roms (I an not a C programmer, i am normaly only a c# and java, so i am not to sure how to do that ) .
I have also been in contact with Gokhanmoral, and he's been giving me lots of help with what to do ect.
Cheers

Hello,
Since there is no custom rom for LTE, i was wondering what is the reason behind that. Are the firmware files for the N7105 device not available or is the source closed unlike N7100. I am currently looking to buy the LTE version, however if the custom rom wont come i will rather go for the N7100 version.
Cheers
PS: I have never owned an android device before and currently use the Nokia N900 (running maemo linux)
1) There is a stock, rooted, deoxed rom available.
2) Samsung have hindered asop development at every pass so support is low.
3) Touchwiz is VASTLY improvesd. No where near perfect but most people are happy.
4) The devs are busy working on the 7100 which is understandable so give them time.
5) The other idea is a patch to make n7100 work. (But it's looking like the changes are more than skin deep.)

I'll be looking to list any XDA N7105 ROMs on my site when they are available. I'm picking up my Note 2 this Friday 16th November.:good:
so guys,
i started with spending my time into saving money for an ace 2, now i consider to buy a version,
but are all roms, mods, etc are aswell aviable for i8160 version or is there any difference between hardware related things out of nfc?
thanks already to guys who can answer my crappy question!
ROMs are different from standard i8160. I suggest buying standard version.

shh he must buy ace 2 (that means 1 more developer for us )
And yeah I suggest buying standard version too, I dun think NFC is that much needed.
Buy I8160 without P.
yeah, buy standard i8160... 'cause i think most of people here use a non-nfc ver.
CMIIW. just correct me. please.
I have 8160P and so far all custom ROMs and kernels for non-P version worked for me (except NFC, but who needs that?). I just had to change tee folder to make SIM working with them (this same applies to L version). The only problem is that you can't flash the samsung's official ROM from other version because it will hardbrick your device (most probably diferent radios).

Maybe if you buy nfc version you can develop for the standard version too, looks like the difference only on the nfc chip availability
But of course I would recommend to buy the standard version,
Can't wait to see you developing for us

Anyone knows how to flash my GT-I8160P using new JB ROMs from GT-I8160?
I would like to use new JB from GT-I8160 in my Samsung NFC version but I am not confident about if normal process using Odin will work, I think flashing new Android v4.1.2 could damage my smarphone. I heard it may be dangerous if partitions change and new ROM don't include an appropriate PIT file.

Hey everyone. I am just getting into development and am looking for some experience in the field. I know it is not easy, but, if someone is not already working on this, would anyone like to join me in an attempt to port a touchwiz android 4.2.1 ROM from the international GS3 to all carrier variant GS3s? If so, respond here, or PM me. I am really interested in getting the ball rolling on this as the new touchwiz features intrigue me, but as a high school student I have no money for a galaxy s4.
Thanks for your interest.

I don't even think its possible to port from international..
I mean in general is it, but its completely rewriting everything from scratch since US and International is completely different hardware... That's why no one has done it.
Anyone feel free to correct me but OP, if you want to really accomplish this, you have a LONG way to work. Its easier to cook your own TW ROM

I was just wondering, because it has all of the new touchwiz functionality from the galaxy s4 (minus some of the hardware dependent stuff) so it just seemed like a cool idea. Maybe I can just get the cam, gallery, and some other stuff to work with our current touchwiz/android version.

That's if they even release TW source code... Which they probably wont since its closed sourse... The only hope is waiting for the US variant, but even with the US variant, its still closed. This is something extreme lol most elite devs won't even mess with TW since no code makes it extremely difficult... But we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, It is rather annoying. But is TW being closed source a new thing? Because if I remember correctly, some, if not all, of the Galaxy S3 TW versions were available open source.

The only source Samsung releases consist of kernel source code and various stock stuff. None of the stuff they release is for TW...
Touchwiz is and always has been closed source. If code was released for TW those featured would of already been implemented to AOSP based roms.

Hey i was just wondering if the new 4.2.2 touchwiz will be ported to the s3 from the s4? Because i know im not the only one hoping for the new touchwiz to come to the s3.
I would think it's the same as porting the s3 international firmware to the us variant. Different hardware, different set up. It'll probably brick your phone.

Oh wow really? So its not the same as like Sense on the HTCs when they were really only htcs getting newer sense roms?
Its not just the launcher its boot loaders, framework, kernels, and its all built for an 8 core exynos processer and we have a dual core Qualcomm
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
It'll never happen unless Samsung releases Touchwiz source code to work with. If they would to release it I would be very possible for that to happen, even have TW on non Samsung devices..
HTC Sense is just a skin to be honest (with the exception of the new Blink feed on HTC ONE) with a couple of fancy widgets that rely on that skin.
Sense was partially ported to a couple devices back in the day due to the fact that it is almost just a skin. (Any one can feel free to correct me on this one )
Galaxy S4's Touchwiz, not only is it a skin but the gestures and fancy thing the S4 has rely heavily on TW framework.
With out that TW source to be released we're out of luck

I sure hope att/sammy didn't build all that for the exynos octa. Would brick there qualcom quad cpu phones.

Only a small portion of the S4s are gonna be running the exynos processor. Many will have the next iteration of Qualcomm's snapdragon. It will still be nearly if not entirely impossible to get the S4's firmware running on the S3. We already have 4.2.2 on the S3 though. Just gotta get on a custom ROM.

Custom TW Rom are built using the original TW firmware, with features added to them.
IF we had TW source code, we'd have the features and apps like TW camera on AOSP based roms....
