I was going to try and port the dual boot feature from the s3 siyah kernel with the help of Gokhan Moral, i have got a stock N2 kernel ready to compile ect, but i cant find any compiler that works on the note 2 kernel, i can only find one for the s2 (my current phone).
I found a guide on setting up a universal kernel compiling environment, but the is so many things to install, it is taking me ages to set up

Can we get a nice clear post in from a dev about a) whether or it's a definite possiblity we can get the GN2 dualbooting? and b) what needs doing? (Many thanks to fishingfon for what we have so far). The thought of flipping from PA over to a TW rom for Spen functionality on the fly is awesome
Its also my understanding that the spen stuff is an issue because of the source availability? up samsungs basically.....

Hi,
I talked with Gokhan Moral (he is a elite recognised dev) about the possibility of getting dual boot on the note 2.
And he said that as the hardware is very simple to the s3, it shouldn't be too hard to get the dual boot from his siyar kernel working on the note 2.
And seeing that dual boot is available on the s3 and note 1, it is almost definitely possible to get it working on the note 2
If anyone knows of a compiler that works with the note 2 kernel, i would be very grateful if they could share it.
Cheers
Corey
Edit:
It's my understanding, that you can get everything you need to make the kernel, from the source code that samsung has provided, and by extracting some things like the initramfs from the ZImage. So you should still get full spen functionality, although I may be wrong

If someone could help me find out two things, I wouldn then be able to start trying to compile the dual boot kernel I am trying to make.
I have googled lots ect and asked on xda, but no one seems to know.
If someone could help try and find out:
Firstly, what The N7100 partition layout is,
And secondly, if someone could find out how to then edit the Ramfs from a different device with the new partition layout from the note 2.
Cheers

I wish Dual boot and Voodoo sound gets ported to Note2 ASAP. I seems to have posted elsewhere but I did discuss the possibilities with Gokhanmoral and he may be willing to help us in the port as he personally do not wish to develop a kernel for a device he do not own.
Siyah's port of Voodoo sound is already available for us through the latest RedPill and Perseus kernels, however dual boot option is yet to be ported. I wish to contribute towards the development if I could help in anyway.

Hi,
I am already in the process of porting the dual boot.
I have changed the partition layout in the ramfs, and I am at the moment just going thru all the files double checking I didn't miss anything..
If the dual boot does work when I have finished (fingers crossed lol) then I could really use someone who knows how to add cm sources to the kernel, so that dual boot is possible with cm and stock roms (I an not a C programmer, i am normaly only a c# and java, so i am not to sure how to do that ) .
I have also been in contact with Gokhanmoral, and he's been giving me lots of help with what to do ect.
Cheers

Hello all,
I just wanted to let you know my experience from some minutes ago.
I successfully boot up CM7 ported to my device.
Everyone is free to do so, but be careful what you do.
I used the kitchen to cook it, so thanks to dsixda for his work.
And also to arco68 and cowithgun whose kernel I was using.
Last but not least KezraPlanes for his Rom I was using as base and for comparison.
Sadly, this is just a quick and dirty port so no downloadlink.
Also there have to be still many bugs and things not working, cause of the cm rom I used.
To state some:
GPS (does not lock)
Audio (both input and output, will be tough)
Camcorder (because of audio)
Storage-related (external SD not working, internal with no USB storage, vold misconfigured)
USB tethering/MTP (will require some programming)
Host access point (similar to USB tethering)
Buttons force feedback
Contacts on SIM card
This was stated by YardE in his thread, about the CM-Rom I used for the Port. So, also credtis to him and the fellow developer.
I just made it for the fun of it and to show some pics, here you have:
Welcome to the club the community awaits you n to those assisting you.

I have one question and according to your profile you are from the same Country(Germany) and have the same Provider(simyo). Does your data connection work ? Does this ROM has also this "funny SIM card issue". The good thing about this ROM we will have the drivers for Gingerbread isn't ?

I hope there is dev who willing to port CM7 to our galaxy W
i know it's out of date
But CM7 itself still cool
still have a lot of customization
and i want to make some wp clone with it
Okay,okay.To sum some things up.
After my try to port a ROM via the kitchen I had downloaded the sources and try to compile a build.
Sadly I cannot spend so much time in playing around with the code and try things out.
So far I overcome some problems while compiling. - crazy story here-
In the End no boot up and I noticed the small system size, which is definitely to tiny for all the libs.
To say so: still a way to go.
Maybe Arco have time to guide a little bit or someone else will supporting me, like KezraPlanes,...

Hi
I've created this thread here in general to try an effort to a collaborative port of (any) sense rom to galaxy nexus, lets to the point:
I was trying a different rom instead of the stock. Why? Because a custom rom with sense provide lots of things that stock doesn't have (init.d for example). In my case, I was using Insert Coin for One X, because in the past I had some success with other devices.. well. I didn't had the same success with galaxy nexus.
Of course any rom can be used, we need success in this port disregard the rom used.
Obs.: For people unable to help and able to troll, this isn't a thread for trolling/blaming/"giving the unrequired opinion about it" or "why not buying a HTC phone instead", please, you can create your own thread for that or just use your facebook.
Thanks
I think there was already a thread about a wip port of sense and touchwiz that booted but some major stuff wasn't working.

It's relative. AOSP will be more easily imo, but in other hand, cm10 can be adapted, since there's cm10 for tegra (so we can adapt the source code, if someone wants to give a try). I was trying with cm10 4.1.1 btw (cause the InsertCoin is 4.1.1).
My Octo-oraculus says that there are few other threads like this and NONE of them will end up with something actually usable.

Btw, I was thinking about trying backport the sense for Nexus S (since there's one port that was almost successful), the only problem is... the best port for NS is Gingerbread-based and I dont know how much effort will be needed to adapt a 4.x kernel with a 2.3 rom.
I know that developers of our phone are having such a hardtime creating custom rom for our phone without getting any in return. But do you think CRT off animation can be done on our phone? I think it will be great if it our mini phone can do that. I hope one day, we are able to do that on our phone
I think it's possible with kernel modification

I guess 4.1 just doesn't have that option to begin with but it's not impossible.
I'd really love to see this effect on benz rom or dmod rom, i hope dariolob or benzonator improve their skills to reach that 'cause it's just a very cool effect personally I tried decompiling and recompiling the framework-res.apk but the only thing I got was a bootloop when restarting my phone and had to reflashed stock rom again so I failed in my chance

I tried to modify services.jar from 2 guides (1 and 2 cant remember which one) but i couldn't succeed. We should set fbearlysuspend in kernel and make changes in some files. I am not a dev and i couldn't modify kernel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USKBDDFbF_E
why dont u people try to build an AOSP rom instead ofa CM....coz probably cm is sumthing that is modifications made to AOSP....and even the touchwiz ui is modified AOSP so if we can have a AOSP build itll probably be easier for us to build these roms..
...if sum one is ready to help me learn about building roms from source ill sure try making CM's and AOKP and paranoid and what not
is better but its based on AOSP.....its like imagine AOSP as a stock rom and CM as a custom rom...wait why imagine..its actually like that....so the basic idea is to improve performance...where CM show up...but whats the base CM uses??...its AOSP....so if we have a perfect AOSP which is obv possible...coz Samsung wouldn't be able to build TouchWiz withouta base...for obv reasons...so why not try building an AOSP first and then continuing with CM
do u even know whatcha sayin?
tl;dr
Here's some math:
No sources = no base
No base = no sources
No sources = no cm
No cm = no aosp
So unless you try to find a way to make those proprietary sources available then I'd suggest doing some research.
Also even if you tried you'll fail, we have the best devs for sgy working hard for that goal and we're honestly not making good progress. Well except for percy and his cm9 and psycho's cm7 but still a long way from "stable as stock".
This post is in compliance with the national potato safety regulation.

My information might not be correct. A friend of mine told me this.
See cm is made by aftermarket developers keeping in mind that it can support lot of different phones.
On the other hand aosp was made for nexus phones so they don't give a damn that it works on other phones or not. They are just selfish lol.
So building pure aosp is tougher compared to cm. Cm has modifications on aosp to support different phones.

Naman...we haven't tried making AOSP yet so we cant just confirm this and it cant be that it was made for nexus only coz its an open source project so they must have probably kept in mind that many dev's will try to have it on different devices ..... the Gingerbread that our SGY uses is nothing but a custom rom of the aosp which we call as stock....
for obv reasons...samsung would not have made their own android os right...they have used google sources....the point is...the time dev's have spent on making CM if would have been focused on AOSP we might just have a build close enough to psycho's work!
and what ive learned or i might be wrong in this that psycho used aosp's sources for the fixes....Maybe wrong about this...i just read it somewhere here!.....and as our device has the largest community of awesome dev's why not we try the AOSP thing out??
we cant just conclude without trying...can we??......some months back people were like we wont have a CM....we have a working CM7 and CM9 which are working pretty fine except for the driver bugs....same way,we might just end up having an AOSP...
another hope to Young GT-S6310. need a great developers to make it true

man.. they are just stock based roms.. everyone is upgrading these days, android 4.3 has been released and you are still on 2.3.6. Which makes you guys really outdated..
Kernel? yeah there are huge number of kernels here but if you notice that most of em have same features See other phones like nexus 4. They have whats called "real" kernel development.
Pico which is 1k more expensive is 100 times better than this phone and you also know it. Why not buy that? I sold my Y for 3.5k and another 3k can buy you a arm7 phone. Which wont get outdated for another year atleast..
For the Note 2, there is this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239453
It allows you to dual-boot a Samsung and AOSP-based ROM. How cool is that?
For the locked AT&T Note 3, there is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572978
It allows you to keep the locked factory ROM in place, while creating additional ROM "slots" to boot into an alternate ROM.
I, for one, would love the abilty to run a stock Samsung ROM and be able to dual-boot an AOSP based ROM on my Note 3.
Based on the above, it seems to be possible. I am no dev, but I am hoping to entice someone to take this on to make it a reality.
Perhaps a dev fund of some sort? I'll toss in $20. Anyone else interested in this feature?
Happy New Year, BTW...
Ah the infamous devil kernel, yea that's a dope feature and I'm sure in due time devs will cook up a kernel that allows this. CM for our devices is a newborn at this point and needs plenty of nightlies to iron out all the bugs before this can happen.
