mikeyxda came up with tweak that eliminates screen wakelag.
I did a lot of research on that and it's not so easy to answer. Generally, I believe battery will be no worse and possibly better. Google location services, alarms, widgets, push mail, and many other processes end up waking up 99% of phones at least once every 3 minutes anyway and the deep-sleep-->awake-->deep sleep cycles actually consume more power than letting the processor(s) stay awake. On my phone for example, Google location services alone woke the phone 20 times/hr (every 3 minutes) and that's with GPS turned off and no navigation or map activities running! Add a weather widget here, a push mail app there, and I found that my phone was bouncing in and out of deep sleep more than a hundred times an hour! Better (on both battery and circuitry) to just idle at that point. With only one CPU awake with screen off, the radio will draw more power than the CPU idling. Most people don't realize that the screen and radio eat orders of magnitude more power than (especially an idling) CPU, so idling one CPU will have little effect on battery. That said, I suppose if you put your phone in airplane mode and maybe froze a bunch of other apps that wake the phone, maybe battery would be worse with the ZeroWakeLag wakelock and the phone would do better in deep sleep. Reality is: we don't use our phones that way.

Yeah I'm not seeing to much Wake increase....a tad less better battery life though.
I also tested some builds available in mikeyxda thread getting same results.
No improvement on wake for me at all, but got a terrible drop in battery. Used the revert and all is well again.
Really? Noticeable for me. It wakes up as if I had Pandora playing in the background and woke it up... If you know what I mean... But it does drain the battery a bit quicker...

You just flash the zip right? Any wipes needed?
will it work? yes (results may vary)...but the claims in the thread are ridiculous
no it wont increase your batt life "ten fold"
/me shakes his head at moronic claims by "devs" (liberal use of the word)
I think I will pass.
i dont think wipes are needed in this case. the tweaks do increase battery life but of course not by 10th fold. without the tweaks by the end of the day i would have around 50% left and with the tweaks yesterday i had 76% left. Usage may vary but only slightly. (i dont use my phone almost at all during the day)
Correct, it will not increase it "tenfold" but the OP in the original thread was making a point.
I installed the .zip (Thanks kevdliu!) last night before charging/going to bed.
So far I have 7h 0m 3s on my battery (will update with screen shot) and here are the breakdowns. Battery life is at 61% (battery % mod)
Display - 61% (set between 1/3 & 2/3 all day) 1h 10m 53s
Mediaserver - 9% 24m 8s
Pandora - 9% 3h 21m 41s keep awake; 25m 26s CPU total
WIFI - 9% 7h 0m 3s
Cell Standby - 7% 7h 0m 3s
Phone Idle - 5h 49m 9s
For me this seems like an increase in battery life so far, but I guess I'll find out at the end of the day.
I will update later at bedtime with better results/compare to before the .zip

Quick question. What link did you use to root your phone. The one from chainfire or the other one from mskip.

Stock with bloat... but I froze it. Then again, bloat has nothing to do with battery life, I just didn't like the icons in my app drawer, lol. I uninstalled the games that came with to free up additional space.
I have yet to see a single ROM that comes close to stock screen times or battery use screenshots. To be honest, I don't see the need for ROMs currently. Most people could do more with a launcher.
Yeah I feel ya. Kept going back to rooted stock, always seems to be better for some reason!! Anybody know why

I think it's because Samsung bolts down a lot of their code, and it's very difficult to get everything working well once you start tinkering with it. From what I read, a lot of ROMs would fix one thing, and break another in the process.

I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955423
Hey everyone
so i have been in contact with the dev of PGM2.. he makes a kernel mod that allows you to swipe to turn off/on screen etc instead of using buttons
heres the link to his thread for the nexus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721895
i essentially was talking to him to see if he would be willing to make us an app for our sgs3 devices... as i personally hate using buttons for fear of them breaking or wearing out on me... so i wanted to do this poll to see who would be interested in this kind of thing...
the dev needs to gauge interest to see if people would even want it to make it work his time...
please people, make sure to vote and voice your opinions as i would LOVE to have this ported over from the nexus
thanks!!
Come on people. Vote it up! Vote yes! Lol

I believe ktoonsez's kernel has this feature in the ktweaker settings if you want it that bad. A bit if a battery drain though
ya i know, but honestly its not as developed as the pgm2 one is... and to be honest, the KT one barely works... had KT installed and it never worked for me.. ive now moved to leankernel

Yea. I didn't figure it out too. Then I finally found out that you swipe across the screen to make it work. And I don't see YOU developing something to fix this, give thanks for what you have.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I dont have to develope anything. There is someone that is willing to port an already existing app to our devices. Don't have to be rude. I'm saying that the one in the kernel currently isn't developed to its full potential... a little competition didn't hurt anyone...
Sent from my A510 using Tapatalk 2
Personally, I like swiping the screen to take a screenshot, rather than locking the phone. Though perhaps this swipe could be from the bottom to top.. that would be quite interesting.

So this is a pretty big issue with the Nexus 4 crowed, as well as the Droid DNA. The common thing... the Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.
Here is a link to a large thread over in the N4 section with those experiencing the issues
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1999368
Supposedly, there is a fix out, but we dont have access to it yet.
To observe your wakelocks, you can go here and download BetterBatteryStats, links to the APKs are in the 2nd post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
The wakelock occurs the most on 3G/4G data. From what I understand, its any time the phone uses the radio to send/receive data. Generally, BBS reports anywhere between 10-30% on my phone depending on how much time I spend off WIFI.
Yeah I noticed the same thing but basically only found things on the n4 forums like you did. Not sure there is much more info.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
I have those as well bet if those wakelocks were fixed we would have much better battery life.
I used these tweaks and they seem to help not sure if it's placebo or what but anyway try adding this to your build prop:
#Power Saving Tweaks
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=180
pm.sleep_mode=1
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=0

i highly recommend using jokersax's kernel in the development section of this forum. his kernel has pretty much fixed the issue, u usually get maybe an hour if even of the wakelock after having the phone on for 9+
Damn, I really love the Bricked kernel. It's soo smooth and the sweep2wake feature is SO damn awesome.
Guess I'll just have to charge my phone a bit extra for a while, until Google gets a fix in place. I see this happening on my Nexus 10 too. But that has such a big battery that it doesn't really matter.
i dont think we can use n4 kernels unless they are ported over to our device

Seeder wrecked my battery life hard core so watch out people. I posted in that original thread a few months ago whenever it came out and the developer responded to me saying that our phones already have this tweak enabled. Because of that when you install seeder on the 747 conflicts happen. I'm not a dev so sorry if that is too basic of a explanation.
Essentially. Proceed with caution. My battery life dropped from 1 day to 4 hours after installing this.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm using CrossBreeder instead of Seeder, and my battery life has not taken a hit with it. Search for it here on XDA.
So I did a little research for this app
And dig deep and its a placebo.
It honestly just stops the CPU from sleeping. Nothing else......
This will drain your battery and screw things up if you're running any governors on a modified kernel.
Our devices are clocked at 1.5Ghz with 2gb of RAM.
if you're experiencing lag something is wrong and you don't need these kind of apps.
