I was in the middle of a call today, when it dropped. This is puzzling for several reasons:
I was in my office with an Airave device 5 meters away. When the called dropped, the internet connection was functioning properly.
The status bar showed the icon for 'no network connection', but WiFi functioned properly.
My wife's phone functioned properly.
The problem did not resolve until I rebooted my phone.
This was rather annoying. Any ideas of why this may have happened? More importantly, are there any suggestions for preventing this from occurring in the future?

This happened two times, once where I had full five bars with a HSPA connection and at home more often where I have two bars with an edge connection.
What happens is, when I get a text message, I will view it and then once I reply, the signal will drop and I won't have any signal, and have to wait for the phone to reconnect.
The same has happened outside with full service.
At home, I have wifi calling enabled and sometimes that will even drop and I will have to wait for wifi calling to reconnect or for the phone to gain back reception.
Is this a common issue? I have the ota radio on it, (not flashing any other radios, due to the fear of bricking), and running on Cyanogens 6.1.1.
Edit: This tends to happen a lot, when I get multiple messages and reply to each other quicky. I do about 6k messages a month and its getting annoying having the phone lose/drop signal when replying or receiving messages.
Thanks

Does this happen when you use the keyboard or the phone in landscape? I found out that if you cover the top party of the phone just above the camera with your hand the wifi completely drops. Turns out its the same antennagate as iphones but only affecting wif (so far). I actually can't use my keyboard on wifi because right away after putting my left hand on the top of the phone to hold it in landscape my wifi drops from full to either 1 bar or completely turns off and switches to H or 3G. If you're having the same issue then post back.
Yes, I actually do have the same problem. I donĀ“t think there is a solution for it is there?
I'm seeing the same problem withnmy g2, running cm 6.1.1. I have a case on my phone as well.
i am having this problem when i turn the internet on. Happens instantly.
I was having a similar problem, running cm 6.1.1. I flashed pershoot's kernel and have had better reliability during my two days or so of testing.
I've had 'similar' issues. Its rare that my signal drops completely but when I have the phone open in landscape mode and am sending a text using the hardware keyboard, my signal does seem to drop by 10-15db.
I had the same issue with the stock ROM as well.
Although this is not a solution, I have noticed that the signal isn't affected as much if you keep your hands on the back of the phone 'low', as in my index fingers sit below the camera on the back of the phone when texting...
I've had connection problems ever since I updated the radio. My signal before that was great, and so it was at home. Ever since the update, I go from 2 bars of HSPA to Edge, which is pretty frustrating.
At work, my signal was great and never drops. But today I've been going from GSPA to Edge to 3G over and over, which has me really annoyed.
Edit: Also, I tend to lose connection when I receive an MMS, not a regular text. When I get a call and I don't answer, I lose signal completely, which has caused me to miss voice mails.
Hey guys ready for a weird one? So the other day I turned on WiFi on my SIII to use the university's WiFi instead of my data like i usually do, and when it was time to turn off WiFi, I lost complete signal for data and cell reception. It was weird, so did the usual trouble shooting stuff (checking if data is on, roaming off, wifi off, correct APN)and everything there was fine. So i turned off data and turned it back on, still nothing, i turned on airplane mode, then turned it off, then it would fix the problem....for a little. After a little while the same problem would occure. So I decide to reboot the phone. That too temporarly fixes the problem. So when I got home, I did a factory reset. again, temporary fix. So then I decide to install a new rom, so I install the latest build of CM10. Fixes problem, then problem occurs again. Its extremely annoying, everything was working perfectly fine until the other day. I was on official ICS Stock Rom btw when the problem occured. My phone has been rooted this whole time, but that never was a problem the 3 months I've owned the phone. The problem is now occuring in CM10 as well. Anyone have any ideas as to what to do? Oh side note, when I installed CM10, I wiped everything chache data everything to make it as clean as possible. The issues are random disconnect from 4G data or rather any data reception, no SMS/MMS income or able to send,no calls. WiFi would work. Could this be a hardware problem? I've never dropped my phone or anything. This literally just randomly happened.
Yup
I am having this problem as well. Seems I loose reception. If I call my voicemail, reception returns for a bit and then turns off again and I repeat the process...my IMEI is fine, my APN seems fine, I don't understand what the problem is. I have tried multiple roms and continue to have this issue?

I have the same exact problem!
Similar things happened to me out of the blue about 3 weeks back. Dropping data, no connection to network, calls take 4 or 5 tries to go through sometimes, sms is flakey. I went back to stock 4.1.1 and still happened.
Went to phone store (Telus) and got a new sim. Didn't really help. Now phone is in the shop under warranty and I have a loaner HTC One S :-\
When I was around a strong cell signal it seemed better. My thoughts are that one of the power amplifiers is not working properly or at all. I will probably never really know.
I have an annoying signal loss problem that has been on-going since 4.4, seemed to get a bit better with 5.0, but is bad again with 5.1. At random intervals the phone just loses all signal, as in no bars at all (just an empty triangle), and not even a provider showing. It does say "Emergency Calls Only" in the titlebar, not "No Service", suggesting it actually has signal. This is exactly what it does with no SIM inserted, but I have tried different SIMs to no avail. Eventually it does come back again by itself, but restarting the phone always fixes it straight away.
I can also trigger this behaviour by making a call. Sometimes it works, but sometimes as soon as the call connects, the signal does as described above (so naturally the call drops).
I have googled this for hours and found some problems that sounded similar, but no suggested fixes made a lasting fix on mine. One suggested fix was to clear cache and data for the "Phone" app, force stop, then restart. However, I noticed I have 3 apps labelled Phone. Is this normal? I did the clear/stop/restart on all of them, and that possibly helped for a while, but it started doing it again.
Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this?
the network problem is very troublesome. I now use two phones, one specifically for calls, and one this X ZL. Mine has a bit different problem. it doesn't catch good signals, and while on calls, it automatically loses signals. the call quality is also poor, i tried different sims, but to no avail. my 4 year old Samsung champ gives loud clearer calls on the same sim on the exact same location at the same time where my ZL fails to deliver. i wish we could change the hardware network module

check if antenas are correctly connected. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yADs4OsAXg
Its now happened 4 times always in the same place and Im wondering if its an issue with the Nexus or my carrier (or a combination of both) it never happened with my old Sony Xperia SP (call still dropped on xperia but always could dial or be called).
I go through a small village and the signal drops so call ends. Phone shows signal so I try and call back and call instantly says 'call ended'. The other person cant contact me either.
3 times its worked by turning off the phone then restarting it, today I had to restart then toggle aeroplane mode a few times before I could call, all the while the phone showed signal.
Is there anyone else who has experienced this behaviour? Its only this one location ive had the issue but not being able to reestablish a call is a real pain and shouldnt be happening from what I can see.
Network is EE in the UK.
May be a little late to answer, but i have the same problem. Could you do something to solve this issue?
Having an odd series of issues that might be device-specific (Pixel 3), but definitely isn't a problem with my hardware, as that was recently replaced and had the same issue.
Basically, what I see is:
- For 1-3 days after a reboot, the phone works perfectly. Data works as intended. Calls work as intended. My office area always sits on full bars, LTE.
- After a few days, suddenly I have no ability to make calls...but I can receive them fine. If I try to call anyone, it just sits on the dialing screen for 1-5 minutes and then hangs up or dials. Inbound calls are instantaneous and there are no data issues.
- When the dialing issue occurs, if I watch the signal meter, it will be full bars LTE, then 3G, then H+, then it will either dial or will briefly say there's no signal and hang up...the moment it hangs up, it goes back to LTE and data works fine again.
- Either rebooting the phone or turning on/off airplane mode will fix the problem for 1-3 more days.
- This issue happens even if I switch over to wifi calling and am on good wifi signal, which makes it even stranger!
- I've reinstalled and updated LOS a few times since this began and issue persists. I've tried with wifi on/off, wifi calling on/off, different locations, etc. I even briefly tried the official Google dialer app, as I had been using the stock LOS one. No change.
