Good starter rom... - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm from the vzw note2, but have a friend getting the sprint variant. I use jelly beans b11, was wondering what a good TW based ROM along the same lines for sprint was? Been looking at Jelly Bomb (think it's TW), but can't really test any out until he gets the phone. Not looking to do a whole lot of flashing, just one solid run through for him to get started. Any input appreciated, maybe some key points to a few, or just personal opinions on what you use and why would be great. Thanks guys, in advance.
Current:
VZW GNll running B10, 6,200MAh Hyperion with a Dremel'd box of otters & iPad 2
Graveyard: Droid - Droid 3 - T-Mo G2X - iPhone 4S

Stock Rooted Deodexed with Perseus Kernel and he's good to go.

If you like jellybeans rom on verizon try nowizaospmod, runs smooth as margerine and is basically the same rom your on. Macks allstar 3.2/3.3 rom with perseus kernel is a go as well.

Cool, thanks. Yeah, you guys have a couple of things that our roms add because VZW decided we didn't need it (wtf, right). I love Beans, but mostly because of the aosp features and themes, as well as the options and debloat. When he was talking about getting it I didn't even consider the fact that beans wasn't on the sprint variant, heh. I'll take it into consideration, and keep reading around until the phone arrives, still open to suggestions and opinions though.

All of these are Great options, to be certain. (you can't actually go wrong with any of our devs.)
But my fave, for several reason is Platts Synergy.
Stock looks, well maintained and up-to-date by a very experienced team of cookers, practically bugless, all the little tweaks and features you want in a custom cooked ROM, w/o any "experimental" things to worry about. Rock F**king Solid.
also, I have to admit as a disclosure, I hate "theming". not to knock anybodys anything, but it's what keeps me away from 75% of ROMs.
If you like themed ROMs, JellyBomb has a ton of views for good reason.

I had never seen so many people against theming as I have here. It's really the only reason I have a stock themed base (with the exception on 1% bat, pulldown, and got that yellow date on the lockscreen changed to white). Otherwise my base would be like green. On the ET most people wanted themes.
And btw jelly bomb was one of the first roms and the only heavily themed rom for awhile. Just saying, views aren't the only thing to base off of. I have seen a lot of people who had jb banners when they first flagged Lab Rats.... its all personal preference. If you want blue, then jb beats all. But LR has green, goodness, pink, orange, and soon to be purple while also featuring a stock base.

He loves the ICS Blue look of my phone (dialer, center clock, toggles, basically anything status bar related) said he wants that. Final decision is his but I can sway him with my knowledge, and know how of what means/does what. Definitely checking these out when I get to my computer, especially Synergy and LR. You guys have a plethora of roms, it's daunting. VZW development is catching up, we recently got Whomp and had Jedi for a little while now too. Still, i look through feature lists and see a couple things I'm going to suggest to Beans. Just released build 12 day before yesterday, got Xposed, Pie integration, couple other things. Rounding out quite nice. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, quite the help always good to see (instead of "search!"). I mean I'm looking around just a lot to look at and always good to see opinions.
To the mod: realized too late I posted in the wrong forum, sorry! I know better, too! Spent a few minutes looking in general when it clicked.
Also, I love ICS Blue (any theming in general, always sets us apart). When we had GB, I was all over green themes. Another guy at work has a sprint N2 he won't let me root (wuss, he'll cave after I hook up this one) and this prospective buyer loves the look of mine well over his stock. Thanks again guys, you're great!

Looking for the best Rom and kernel combination for my EVO 4G?

Hey guys what's up...ok so I finally got my evo rooted and I was able to try out a couple of ROMs....I tried so far cyanogenmod 7 and nyms warm twopointtwo rls5 but I noticed that my data would cut out and not switch over from 3g to wi fi and in cyanogenmod 7 force close errors left to right...what is the best kernel Rom combination that will provide the most features performance and stability? Now using stock rooted Rom...on a happy note I was able to put the Android peeing on Apple bootloader love it lol....let me know guys thanks

Personally.. I'm leaning towards Sense based roms more and more. They just have alot of the features I'm after and now that most are implementing other aspects of AOSP roms I'm finding more and more it's the way to go (ie. miui player, android mail vs htc etc, themed gallery etc.) I can make 2 recommendations right off the bat.
1. Koni Elite Series III - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941055
2. King Cocoa True Blue - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995410
I've played with so many roms I've lost count but I think with either one of those you'll find everything you are looking for. And I find that most themes will flash over them as well (Slayers cyan dragons and skulls theme is pretty sweet on koni's)
Every phone is different and not one seems to be the same as the next so as to recommend a kernel that is gonna take some testing on your part. I've given up on trying different ones as most cause nothing but boot loops and crashes. HTC #15 stock kernel plays the best for me. As for roms.. Keep on flashing.. It becomes addictive but you'll find what you like eventually. The work these cats have put into these roms are worthy of many a dollar so be sure to thank them for their work! Good luck , have fun!
thank you for the reply I really appreciate it...yes it is very true...rooting these guys is like taking away their chastity belts lmao....totally opens up the possibilities...i am super new to this don't even know what the good apps are and good folks on here helped me root my phone...definitely going with sence gonna check out those time in a bit

If you want a stable, fast and battery-efficient Sense ROM that cuts out a lot of the Sprint/htc cruft and still looks nice, check out Eternal Prophecy.
It has the best battery life of any ROM I've used and matches speeds with many of the best AOSP ROMs.
SWYPED from my Evo with Eternal Prophecy 5.8 ROM. Yeah I said Swyped.
ilove MiK and Myn
both are the best for me.
it really boils down to personal preference. there's no one true answer as to what is the best combination as it differs from person to person.
i'm enjoying CM7 with the Tiamat kernal. some people like SZ, some people like others..
yea, it's up to you.. try out a bunch and see what you like.

Went your route my friend Thanks for the input
CM7 + Tiamat kernel = 1day 9hrs battery life.
Fast, stable, good battery life, smooth....a perfect winner.
you should try Azreal x4.0 it is really fast and everything works
MIUI is very unique, runs on Gingerbread power. Warning - no 4G (yet).
Kernel is Tiamat 3.3.8 with SBC. I suggest that you use Kernel Manager, works pretty well.
Oh, and if you're a flashaholic, be sure to condition your battery. Charge to 100%, go into recovery and wipe battery stats, reboot phone, when it boots to the desktop unplug the phone and don't plug it up until the battery is fully dead. Then charge it to 100% again. Boom. Better batter.

Bored... Your thoughts?

Im running CM9, Came from an N1 (which i still think is a great phone). Anyhow, I do like ICS I think the GNex is nice device, but its somewhat boring stock, and not much better than that with CM9...
Im not sure if CM is just falling by the wayside, but the CM7 software on my N1 had sooo much more to tinker with (they really made android come alive)
What does everyone else think? Any nice ROMs I should be flashing that are more advanced in development?

CM9 is still being developed, they're still porting features and things over from CM7 as well as developing new features. They'll have a lot more when they're done.

And I know for a fact that AOKP had ROM Control first with a lot of these settings. Not calling them out or anything but a lot of ROMs share features (kanging source).

Try MIUI. Try the different ports from Xperia's to Sense 4.0 (although most of them aren't stable enough for daily use they can be played with for a day and is quite interesting.)
I think its just that back in the day Android, and the carrier customizations were so crappy that you absolutely needed to tinker with the phone to get it to work right.
I'm finding I'm bored too with ICS. It's because I don't need to do anything to it. Its like tinkering with the settings page of Gmail. "this is... good."
My thoughts? I think you should get a girlfriend… and spend less time with your phone.
AOKP has an incredible amount of tweaks.
Sounds like you need to flash a buggy ROM or two son.
Yeah doesn't aokp have a huge jump on cm9 with features? You really should try aokp. Cm9 needs more dev time.

AOKP has more features but less stability / speed.
OP, give this a shot: http://bit.ly/zg5fZw It adds some features to CM9 that allow for some more customization.

Some might call that bloat.
I am using AOKP for fast featured tweaks/mods and stable rom. I'll eventually jump back to cyanogen, after they reached RC1. Or maybe AOKP for Gnex, CM9 for sgs2. But oh well, after using AOKP, i tend to stay with it a long time without trying other roms. Its the best for now.

the CM9 is very stable which is great, just needs more stuff ported over. I wouldn't buy a phone unsupported by CM I've loved there roms in past.
Ill try some of these other you guys suggested...

[Q] Which rom to choose?

It's been a month since I got the epic 4g touch. I am kind of sick of gingerbread theme, and limitations on this ROM. I used to have vibrant, and omg, the custom roms were amazing. And when I say amazing, I mean the themes were really eye catching, and made the phone really fast. I looked around the dev subforum and it seems that all the roms for sg2 are ugly. can someone recommend me one that would look unique and nice? and also have ICS and cool animations and hotspot hack along with s talk?
I like wicked sensations, totally themed and has all the stuff you want. Very fast too.
Cm9 is cool with the theme changer, No name is good. Find one you kind of like and change it up!
The Blu Kuban. Killer dark-themed ROM with a ROM Updater that has tons of mods to play with. I'd check out a few other ones first though. It's so great that I haven't even given any thought to flashing something else in a month.
Sent from my Epic 4G Touch
I had flashed the Frankenstein Rom and now just flashed the Blue Kuban. What I like about Blue is the customizations you can do with this ROM. The developer board is very active and are very knowledgeable about the contents of it.
All this being said... I was wondering myself what the better kernels and modems are that go with these ROM's, particularly Blue Kuban.
I think I've tried damn near all of them. In terms of ICS Roms, Blu Kuban and Wicked Sensations are my two favs at this time. I think Wicked Sensations looks a bit cooler than the rest, as it's themed through and through, and developed by a well-known themer. Blu Kuban also looks sharp though, but the big plus for that one is the ROM updater. For a daily ROM, I'd pick Blu Kuban just for that factor. Less impulse to clean install and try something else when you can just update and add mods within the Rom itself. Honestly, anything made by Team VeNuM is almost guaranteed to be pretty sharp looking and smooth, in my opinion.

I agree...but like I say to almost everyone who is looking for a rom check out qbking videos. He reviews everything he gives you a sneak peek and also shows you how to install if you don't know his YouTube by now just search qbking77 also search through threads find out what's best for you. My personal favorites are blu kuban and wicked sensations also I was on blu kuban since it was released and recently tried out wicked sensations I been on there every since...team venum is very supportive so any issues you do have they will fix or guide you on how to fix it.

I'd look at Frankenstein's Ego. It's a pretty vanilla ICS rom that's fairly fast and snappy.
If i were you i would try out Miui although on some devices it does lag a little but i think it would be a good fit for you.
I'd take a look at anything Calkulin has thrown out there... I am running his GB EL29 ROM and it's amazing. I have never been so happy with a phone.
I would choose CM9 alpha 5 it is stable and awesome
I've actually tried blu kuban when I first got this phone. The rom is a fail; it lags to load my 720p videos. Any stable ROMs?

I have tried multiple ROMs on my phone even hard bricked a couple of them. Honestly the De-Odexed 1.2 version of Wicked Sensations ROM is amazing. It has all the ICS features I've been looking for with a smooth stable OS. I'm pretty new to flashing custom ROMs but after all the ones I've tried this one is by far the best. everything works on it including the hotspot feature. Couldn't be happier only complaint is the battery indicator has the percentage built in to the icon otherwise its kicks ass you should try it out!

What kind of ROM you running ? Stock or AOSP ?

Just got my Note 2 last night Awesome device, a bit bigger than my old international One X running CM10, but getting used to size. I rooted it out of the box, man it was the easiest quickest root ever for me. Just installed a stock ROM ( cleanrom ) and simple ICS blue theme to start off, and try out the S-Pen and Touchwiz features. So far so good, running on Straight Talk ATT sim, very fast, great service today so far. .
I have been on stock AOSP Android for years, Nexus-One, Nexus-S, Galaxy Nexus, One X running CM10. I did have the Galaxy S II running a good stock Touchwiz ROM and heavily ICS theme which I liked a lot.
Curious what are you running ? Stock Touchwiz based ROM, or AOSP CM10.1 ROM ? I love AOSP, but are any of the CM10 based ROM's for the ATT Note II good enough as a daily ROM with little bugs ? But AOSP ROM's on the Note II get rid of all the S-Pen features and note writing ? I mean the S-Pen is a big deal on the Note phones, would suck to lose all those features, but then again AOSP is awesome if a good stable and quality ROM.
Of the AOSP ROM's which one for our Note II is the most stable, and offer custom DPI and cool features above and beyond just stock nightly CM10.1 ? And of the stock Touchwiz ROM's which is your favorite, with cool themes and dark apps ? So many to chose from
I am using Nova launcher, and makes the phone look more stock, with cool features, and the 6 x 6 grid fits the Note perfectly. I am shocked actually with Nova on a stock cleanrom, it does feel act very much like stock AOSP.
Thank you
I was on CleanROM SE for a while and everything ran really good. All the stock Sammy features were there.
I just switched over to CM10.1 because I dont use all the SPen features and Samsung stuff so I figured to give it a go. Its pretty stable. Love the stock group messaging. The camcorder volume doesnt work....but there has been a update post today saying it is working now with a reflash of an updated version. That makes google now work and camcorder audio. I havent checked it myself yet. I have NOVA running as my launcher and its nice. If you dont need all the sammy stuff I would say give it a shot. If you need all the Sammy stuff CleanROM SE is awesome.
I really just like not having a ton of Sammy stuff running on the phone that I dont use. My apps in memory went from 1 gig on CleanROM SE to 750 megs on CM10.1. I really like all the stock stuff that CM10.1 has right off the bat. Being able to change all the notification colors, toggles, right swipe down for other toggles on the notification bar. Its not perfect but I dont mind.

Running this one currently.
[ROM][SGH-I317 / t0lte][JB][4.2.1] CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies
Holy cow, battery life after one day is AMAZING
Unplugged for 17 hours now, been using it nonstop, almost 6 hours screen time. Battery @ 33% :good:
yeah Scott's ROM is most excellent. The most I got out of it was 5 1/2 hours screen and just over a day off the charger.
The reasons I switched
1) I like to tinker and have never used a CM ROM
2) I was running the original version of SE and needed to update to 1.2 and in order to do that I had to wipe/factory reset etc so I figured why not try it.
3) I was really digging the stock feel of android....and all the options available directly from stock.
I already have CleanROM SE 1.2 on my external SD because if I go back that will be the one. Great battery life on the stock experience.

Same here, I've had nothing but nexus phones for the past 2 years until I bought the s3, then sold it for the nexus 4. I was one of the few lucky to people to get a order through on the release day. But after having it for a month I realized I do not like lg phones. But yeah I like stock touchwiz. I'm currently running the international ROM because I really like seeing the h+. its a great phone

I was using sky note, but now I'm trying out the different 4.2.1 aosp ROMs. I'm on liquid right now. I prefer aosp because I like using the latest and greatest. Plus I missed aokp on my s3.

Tried a couple aosp roms, but keep coming back to tw. Ran lots of aokp roms on my nexus and note 1, so tw is different to me. As cool as cm based roms are, just seems like my old phone.

I love my GS3

Tell us why you still have your GS3 and why you love it?
I love mine bc for the last 2 years I have beat the crap out of it, with installing Roms, mods, updates, tweaks, and everything I threw at it, and it's still ticking! Great piece of equipment.

I actually feel the same way. I had the itch for a new phone a few weeks back, have played with a Moto X etc.; don't get me wrong there's a lot of really nice, fast phones out there, but after the 4.4.2 update, debloating, and putting some ktoonsez kernel action on my phone, it really flies. I'm not certain a new device would really add that much value to what I already have.
No complaints whatsoever, still performs like a new device. Camera is still solid. Battery gets me through the day (I can usually eke out ~2h of screen-on time and have just under 50% battery left, and this is with the original stock battery than came with the phone).
All around a great device.

Same here. I'm up for an upgrade but I'm totally happy with the S3. It does everything I want in a phone. Great battery life. The camera is superb. All the apps I want run with no issues. Couldn't be happier with it.
totally agree.
i love my galaxy s3 cause well i just got it honestly and its a very good phone (coming from a person that was in love with the Infuse 4g) well there's a lot more things i can do to this phone and i have done quite a few just love the fact that i get 4.4.2 KK TW stock rom on this phone the infuse was left behind at 2.3.6 GB and only taste of KK roms were AOSP......so i just love my Boost S3
Oh yeah here's how I have my home screen stock 4.4.2 ND8 with the NDC modem and S5 launcher and theme engine that came with the launcher from Wicked X Rom with the Sense 5 or 6 theme and the Blue Balls live wallpaper from CarbonRom
The gs3 was still the top smartphone at the time I bought it, and even 2 years and 2 generations later, i still think it's the top galaxy device. The s3 and s4 vary so slightly that when i updated my rom and debloated it i felt like i had the s4 pretty much. And with the difficulty in just rooting the s5 and the fact that it has a locked bootloader, i am still in no way jealous of any s5 owner (although the dev version is pretty cool). Despite all that, I've also thrown so much software at my device and it still runs great.

My kids have the s5 and n5 and I still love my s3. The n5 is nice but my phone is better than that. I have thrown every tw rom and aosp rom at it in the last almost 3 years and its still awesome. Especially since xPosed was introduced. I'm running SlimKat 6.4 and will stay w SlimKat. I also have a backup s3 who's power button broke on my son. I got him the s5, which is very pretty Btw, and I fixed the power button. Also on SlimKat. Works like new. Ill keep it if mine f's up.

I could upgrade, but still can't get over the whole no data while on the phone issue that all the new phones have. Not willing to take a step backwards when my S3 still works so well.
No reason to upgrade whatsoever... the S3 is smooth as butter on SlimKat. Plus I don't want a 5"+ inch phone. The devs have supported this device very, very well. I upgraded from the Epic years ago, which is still well supported.

Couldn't agree more! I can upgrade also (LG G3) would be my choice. Our S3 is the last good phone to offer 3G SVDO and SVLTE. Guess I'll have to wait for atleast VOLTE to deploy before upgrading ...Im still sporting a WICKED SENSATION knox FREE, MD4 bootloader S3!!.
I dont think ANY new phone will support 3G SVDO in the near future, do you all agree?
SVDO

nobody will support SVDO because data demand and im still running MD4 bootloader and ive beat the hell out of my s3.No KNOX,MD4,and I can run any modem, bootloader and no ND8
I'm with all of you. I had stock AOSP, CM, PA, PACMAN, Slim, Carbon, Vanir, etc...
I'm just settling on Conquest TW rom. Always had issues with reception and GPS on AOSP roms. Conquest is the best of both worlds.
