Hey guys, I picked up a new Samsung Galaxy S II (T-Mobile) about a month ago from the retail store.
About a week ago I was using my phone as a hotspot for my xbox and then I got disconnected while playing. I wondered what was the problem and I saw the data icon was in the no connection state. Now I restarted the phone in case it was the simple loss of signal bug but it wasn't. My data wasn't coming back on. No matter what I did the connection wouldnt come back on. I called the tmobile tech support and they gave me rubbish things such as reboot phone, take out battery and wait 20 seconds, and all that jazz. I then noticed a pattern starting with my phone, the phone would connect to 4g then a second later disconnect. It would repeat this all day and not change to anything else. If anyone can help with this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. It was the SIM card. I only had the phone for 2 weeks and got a new sim card when I got the phone. It just went bad. Go to a corporate Tmo store and get a new card. They will give you one for free.
I have this same problem with my SGH-T989.
I'm running CM 10.1.3 (Android 4.2.2), and it's vendor unlocked (used to be a Rogers phone) now on the TELUS network.
Data will randomly disconnect, but I still have all signal bars in grey. A reboot will enable it again, or sometimes it just comes back on it's own. I've been to the cell booth in the mall and they've swapped out a SIM card for me, no change.
I also noted that when the data isn't working, my WIFI doesn't seem to either. Modem issue? How can I tell what modem I have and what would be best? I assume CM 10 comes with it's own modem for this phone and when I flash CM it writes the modem too?
thanks for any help.

Flashing a ROM usually does not touch the radio. Newer ROMs(4.2.2 and later) need either the UVMC6 or TLMC4 radio from here:

My gf text me this morning saying that she can't get service unless she selects 2G only. She was having issues with her phone and thought maybe the SIM was the problem since it was several years old. She went in and got a new one last night and things seemed to be OK. When she woke up this morning, she again had no service at all ('only 2G' unselected). She switched back to 2G only and is getting service. Even with "only 2G" unchecked, it should still bounce to Edge if there's no 3G signal, right?
I flashed CM7 RC1 or 2 for her back in January and I believe she has the latest radio update.
Any advice? Is this a hardware/software/SIM or network issue?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
If you can, you could try making a backup and flashing another rom?
I'm thinking the very worst problem could be a busted antenna. D;
... But we'll try everything we can before we come to that.
So I've had this phone for over two week now, and I rooted it and flashed it with FrostyJB v5. Everything was running well (excluding the battery life, which was better in v4 but that's a different topic). I was at my school connected to their wifi earlier tonight and when I left school, I can't make any phone calls (i have a circle with a slash through it where my signal bar would normally be). I think it has something to do with my APN or network or something? I'm honestly new to this. I would appreciate it if some one could help me solve this problem. The phone is a T-Mobile phone, which I bought from a T-Mobile dealership. The SIM was working properly until tonight. I tried removing the SIM and rebooting, putting the SIM back in, rebooting. etc.
TLDR: My 4G doesn't work, I'm not connected to any APN, my phone is rooted and flashed with FrostyJB v5 but I bought it from a T-mobile dealership with a T-mobile sim card. Help. Please.
I can provide addtional information if needed

my imei is still there. it is not in airplane mode. I can't connect to my 4G or my T-Mobile network. I was not doing any development when it suddenly turned off. I was walking out of my school around 11:00pm CST (if it helps, I get no reception at my school's building). I turned my wifi off and turned my 4G on via drop down menu and it wouldnt connect. I tried rebooting my phone several times, using HOT BOOT and REBOOT.
Can an mod/admin close this thread out? I solved the issue. You need to turn off wifi calling for it to work. dur. sorry
Hi guys, I need some serious help. I had the original Note and upgraded to the Note 2. My wife got my original Note. The Note 2 is not rooted. I had my new Note 2 for about 4 days, when I notice that my 4G/LTE (I am in Denver) "switches off" and then I don't have a data connection (can't connect to internet etc.), but I still show full towers on the phone and I can make phone calls. When I restart the phone, the connection is restored and I have 4G/LTE. I can also restore my 4G/LTE by switching my phone back and forth between airplane mode.
At times I would be hours without a data connection and then suddenly the connection restores itself (without me restarting the phone). I have compared my connection to my wife's original Note and her phone has constant 4G/LTE, even when I have no connection on my new phone. It is not area specific since I might have no data connection in the morning, but in the afternoon everything is fine (that is now if I don't restart the phone and just leave it be). I took the phone back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a new one and I have the same problem with this phone.
It is driving me crazy since I need my data connection. I've been on the phone with ATT and we've reset the phone and did all that. No luck. They are checking into "other solutions" but I am not hopeful. My questions:
1) What can I do. Anybody else with this problem and how did you fix it.
2) Is this a phone problem or tower / ATT problem (I don't think tower since my wife's Note is working fine)
3) Should I wait for ATT or try and exchange this again for a third time? My 30 days are running out.
Any input will be much appreciated.
Thanks

While it's possible you've received two faulty phones, the more likely culprit is the only thing that hasn't been changed out. The SIM card.

Good idea, I will get the SIM card changed out. Thank you for your input.
I appreciate any help I can get.
So I tried Cleanrom and now paranoid android. I also tried doing the T Mobile aws mod. I've reverted back to the backup I had because after doing the T mobile mod I was getting sporadic disconnects from the cell network. Now I'm on AT&T and it seems when the phone goes into sleep mode and I turn it on the signal shows no bars. Then a few minutes later its connected. I've researched and found some info regarding the imei and efs partition. I have no files in the efs folder on the sd card and my imei number is correct in the status in the phone settings. Funny thing is sometimes under status sometimes it says phone number unknown.
I have no idea what I should do at this point.
Thanks
Did you flash the phone back to stock with Odin and a stock tar file?

Actually yes. I used the note II toolkit and downloaded the stock romantic from Odin. Problem I had was it wouldn't boot so I tried paranoid android. But even before this when I had the T mobile simple I was having the same issues.
There are times when I flash back to stock that I have to do another FULL wipe after the flash.
I flash the stock ROM via Odin. When and if it hangs during bootup, I simply pull the battery and reinstall it. I immediately boot into the stock recovery and do a full factory and cache wipe. Reboot and I'm back in the fight.

That worked. Thank you. But I still seem to be having trouble with the modem, or I'm assuming it's the modem. The signal jumps very sporadically from 4G to G to 3G then no cellular signal at all. It's weird and starting happening in the last week or so. My wife tried calling me 4 times throughout the day and they never came through. Funny thing is if I use the phone for a few minutes the signal will come back for a little bit then disappear.
Have you tried moving the SIM card around? shifting it slightly to the left or right and see if you get signal again?

Not the sim card. Seen this issue on SEVERAL Note 2`s... Its the NEWEST AT&T modem that caused this issue and usually flashing back to the old one still doesnt help. I got mine replaced and it fixed it!
I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus running 4.2.2. I had installed AOKP a few months ago and it worked great. On Saturday my phone died and I didn't recharge it for about a day and when I did I couldn't get any mobile data. There are no bars at all and in the settings->Phone Status it says 'service state: out of service' however mobile network state says 'connected'. I tried reinstalling AOKP and then a few other ROMs and every time I still couldn't get service. I wiped everything and reinstalled stock 4.0.4 and the stock radios and still no luck. The system then updated me to 4.2.2 OTA and the radios are the most up to date radios I515.09.V.FK01 FK02 but still no luck.
I believe I am getting LTE because I can get emails and use GoogleChat without WiFi but I can't place any calls or send texts because (I'm guessing) CDMA is messed up for some reason.
I took it to verizon and after they fiddled with it for a while and put a new SIM card in (and did another factory reset) it still wasn't connecting. They say it is just a phone hardware issue and there is nothing they can do and since it is out of warranty I'm sol and have to buy a new phone at retail. Does anyone have any idea of something I could try to fix this? Thanks a lot for any advice
