My gf text me this morning saying that she can't get service unless she selects 2G only. She was having issues with her phone and thought maybe the SIM was the problem since it was several years old. She went in and got a new one last night and things seemed to be OK. When she woke up this morning, she again had no service at all ('only 2G' unselected). She switched back to 2G only and is getting service. Even with "only 2G" unchecked, it should still bounce to Edge if there's no 3G signal, right?
I flashed CM7 RC1 or 2 for her back in January and I believe she has the latest radio update.
Any advice? Is this a hardware/software/SIM or network issue?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
If you can, you could try making a backup and flashing another rom?
I'm thinking the very worst problem could be a busted antenna. D;
... But we'll try everything we can before we come to that.

I'm having trouble with my EVO staying in 3G coverage. My phone is fully rooted and running Froyo (The problems were the same with the Eclair build however), have the 2.05+ radio installed (however the problems were the same with the 1.39 radio as well) and I'm living in Michigan.
At any given time my phone will slip into 1X coverage and will seem to lock in there. When I first received the phone I felt like the phone quality was subpar compared to the Hero I had prior. I'm not sure if its been a firmware issue or network issue or simply a phone issue (starting to think the later), but hoping its a simple fix with something else.
About a week ago I was on a trip across Michigan which should have had 3g coverage the entire way (I was a passenger and trying to use wireless tethering to do some work along the trip). I would constantly go into 1X and would have to restart my phone to get back in 3G. Even at home I'll go into 1X and will have to reboot my phone to get it back to 3G.
I've tried Real Signal as well during these times and it also shows no 3G signal.
Anyways, anyone else experience this? Is it likely a bad radio or something else. I hate to have to return the phone and go through that process plus root again but I might have to at this point.
Thanks for any help that can be provided!!
Hmmm, whereabouts in MI? I am all over the south east and have never seen my phone drop out of 3G yet.
Have you tried wiping everything and trying stock rom w/OTA 1.47 just to make sure it isn't the ROM?
I am having the exact same problem. Using 2.0xxx radio and Fresh 0.5.3. I recently exchanged my phone and got a new one. The first phone did not do this
Try this:
When it shows you no 3G coverage, instead of restarting, go to-- SETTINGS> WIRELESS & NETWORKS> scroll down and look at "Mobile Network". When i get the 3g problem it says "Connection Failed". I think uncheck that box and re-check it and it connects back to 3g again (for a time, but then I have to do it again).
My MOBILE NETWORK settings are: Data Roaming = OFF, Always-on mobile data = ON, and CDM Roaming mode is set to: SPRINT only. Call guard = ON but i dunno what that means.
I dunno wtf is going on with this. Im in Houston and this issue is really pissing me off because i actually got a Novatek screen this time and don't want to risk taking the phone back and getting the Epson...
Anyone else experiencing this retarded issue?
Elegant: I'm in SE Michigan as well. I've tried several roms and have had issues with them all. I'm currently using a Froyo rom with similar issues as I've had with stock and other eclair roms.
As for checking/unchecking the box as you stated in Froyo I don't have that option available... I'm sure there's another way to get to it but I can't through settings. I think there was a #* code to get to where you are talking about but I'd have to look again.
It is a very annoying issue and like yourself I don't want to have to return my phone if there's a simple fix.
On a side note: How do I find out what panel I have? I've been considering the kernel that would get rid of the 30 fps cap but haven't yet pulled the trigger in part because I don't know which panel I have - and because I need to learn a little more about it before I go ahead with it.

Post 3 tells how to determine screen
Thanks for your help - got the kernel and now get around 40 FPS. Now if I can just figure out why the phone goes in and out of 3g on occasion. Its really not as big a deal when I'm at home but when I travel it is a pain.
well i returned my phone and got one with an Epson screen. im using Fresh 1.0.1 and it is even worse. i cant even use 3g data for more than 5 seconds before it disconnects. i've read some stuff about APN but dont know how to refresh/update them. i've updated PRL and Profile and nothing helps. how am i having this problem with 2 phones running 2 different ROMs? last rom was fresh 0.5.3 and now it is fresh 1.0.1...
anyone help with this APN issue? (i dont even know what APN stands for)
i actually am using the kernel for 55 FPS for Epson screens. would that be a factor either?
I'm and having the same issue with 3g.
Every thing worked fine with the first stock root of 1.32.651.1, PRI 1.40_003, PRL 60666.
With the second root of 1.47.651.1, PRI 1.34.651.1 now my 3g is unstable.
I don't know what FPS has to do with any of this, but I put radio radio-1.39.00.04.26 and it seems to improve a tiny bit, but I don't know how to update back to PRI 1.40_003.
Not happy
Also having problems in SE Michigan. Just started today after installation of Fresh 1.0.1 and the new radios. I also have a co-worker with and unrooted EVO and the latest OTA/Radio with the same problem.
I have a rooted EVO (DC 3.2.3). My wife has a stock EVO (fully updated).
Last night our phones started bouncing between roaming/sprint 3G, while we were sitting at home.
We started getting this error if we turned off Data Roam:
"Data Call Failure
Error Code 67: Registration failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again."
The error pops every time it tries to connect to Sprint's mobile network and fails.
We also live in Michigan. Perhaps they are doing provisioning?
Rebooting + update Profile/PRL seems to help, sometimes, but not permanently.
I am having the same issue with my 3g coverage.
When I go into my settings and turn mobile network on, it connects but then immediately says connection failed.
Does anyone have any suggestions as this is getting really annoying and frustrating.
Went to a Sprint store last night; apparently Michigan was having some significant network issues (the store reps said their phones kept getting disconnected as well), and that it was expected to be resolved by sometime today. After a reboot last night, I haven't had any more issues myself.
so i was running the VR_GengerSense_Revolution_B4 rom about 4 days ago with now problem doing ANYTHING on my phone while in digital roaming. then i left the roaming areas and went into sprint service area and came back into the roaming area and now my phone wont do anything while roaming. i cant make or receive calls or messages or use any apps or the net. i have 2-4 bars of signal but if i try to do anything it tells me i have no network connection. yesterday i switched to the BeKinged-STOCK-Beta-V1-Clark44 rom thinking that changing everything would fix it but it didn't i went back into that same roaming area today and its the same story. does anybody have any idea of what i could do to fix this? I'm at a loss i tried every setting and was on the phone with sprint for about an hr. and nothing. Ive tried different radios and still nothing. i was thinking of un-rooting and seeing if that changed it. it baffles my that it just randomly started with out me changing anything on my phone.
thanks for any input.
i updated the PRL tonight hopefully that will help \. gonna try that before i un-root.
PRL update didn't help. unrooted taking it to sprint tomorrow.
So late on the 14th my phone switched over to emergency calls only. It refused to reconnect until the next morning when I got up. I asked my dad (also on Three) if this happened to him. It did.
That night, same times, disconnected again. Didn't reconnect in the morning, asked my dad, his was fine. Called three and the lady asked me to try my sim in a different phone, I did, and it worked fine. Once I put it back in mine, it worked again, she said likely because the phone 'reset its connection'. I had restarted it many times before this to no avail, but fortunately it worked this time. She also said emergency maintenance was carried out on night of 14th, to my local mast.
Now's last night, it happened again, and will not connect at all, no matter how long I leave the sim out. I've flashed the latest CM7 nightly, didn't help. I'm even in a differant area now so its not the same mast.
What's going on??
Three dont have a 2g network.
They used to let you roam on other networks for 2g but they dont do this anymore in places where their 3g coverage is good (but not good enough).
Switch to 2g only, if it goes to emergency calls only thats your problem.
Call 3 and complain, if you cant get a signal at home anymore because of this they may let you cancel your contract or give you some money off or something.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thank you for your reply, but that didn't seam to be the problem. Since last night I've flashed cm7 again, and wiped cache and data. Now it connects to 3, but not Google. Market wont download and Google talk won't sign in. Also wifi/3g bars don't turn green.
Hi Guys,
So, I've been using the GNex for about a month. I moved to this phone from a Moto Atrix and here is what I have noticed and have looked around but didn't see any good answers to these questions I am having. Hopefully I get some answers here.
Device info:
GNex GSM version on ATT.
Running JB 4.1.1 Stock with Trinity Kernel (rooted and bootloader unlocked).
Issue #1: I get really bad reception at work. But, when I leave the building, my phone doesn't automaticaly connect back to the network. Sometimes, if I don't check my phone, it's been like that all night long until the next day when I have tried to make a call and it said "No Network Available" and I have to either reboot or toggle airplane mode to get back on the network. Am I missing something? In my past experience with other devices, they try to automatically connect back to the network when they loose connectivity. Also, if I get in an elevator during a call and the call gets dropped due to network unavailability, it doesn't connect back to the network and I have to toggle airplane mode. Has anyone else had this issue?
Issue#2: This is with the stock mail app. Specifically the search in this mail app. No matter what, it always returns zero results. Has anyone had this issue with the Mail App? If I use the Gmail app, it works fine. That's what I am using now, but am curious as to what I may be missing that make it not return any search results in the stock mail app.
Q3: Speed Dial: How do you set speed dial on the dialer? Is it even supported?
thanks in advance,
vG

it could be to do with your radio, what version is it? baseband version in about phone. im no expert but when i flashed a jellybean rom i had to update my radio afterwards cause my signal was dropping alot. i also had the same problem later on but that was down to my network operator. before i realised it was them i googled my problem and a few forums suggested that my sim card was goosed. so maybe check those three possibilities? i cant help with the other two issues unfortunately but good luck sorting it out!

Hi. I recently bought (almost new) second hand N7105 and having really little troubles with it, one irritates me pretty much.
On are where Im living there is really good 4g and 3g signal. Everytime I reboot the phone and give pin, it goes for roaming mode for
aproximately 1 minute before getting to network. If its on 4g and I make a call or someone calls, it switches to 3g but after the call,
dont switch back to 4g.
When I switch it in network mode option, com.android.service crashes EVERY time. But it still switches it.
And when im in 3g mode it seems to prefer 3g more than H+ so like browsing on net it drops to 3g but when clicking a link etc.
phone does nothing before it has switched to H+.
I did call to customer service and they thought its maybe a update that didnt install correctly and adviced me to do factory reset.
That just made it worse. I really dont fancy to send it for repair since it seems to be only software problem but on other hand,
I dont wanna loose warranty by flashing custom rom at this point. Any advices or ideas?
Let me put it this way... What is the easiest way to install stock firmware without losing warranty?
And does it contain risks like changing imei?
