I have a problem with my galaxy gio. 2 days ago i dropped in the water ( like 2 secs ) then i cleaned it. I let it overnight to dry , and the next day, when I tried to boot up my phone, it just shows an empty battery for like 2 sec. then it closes. I can't enter recovery or anything. Any ideas, please? I don't know what to do I tried to let it charge , but it seems it doesn't. Tried with th USB cable too, same thing. Pleasee help

i think you need a new battery

I think that it is the battery.
Whenever I (or someone I know) drop a phone in water, we make sure it's turned off, dip it in industrial alcohol and blowdry it softly with compress air.
All the more chance you remove all the minerals that are in the tapwater, which can produce oxide and break your phone later in.
Then we let it dry for a night.
Just a tip...
Also worked to revive a Blackberry which did a full cycle in a washingmachine
(doesn't always work but worth a try)

Does anyone else have this issue?
I recently bought the extra battery and charger (that comes with the second batttery) and here within the last few days, I have been charging the unused battery overnight and then it turns greens sometime during the night and then in the morning when I go to put it into my phone, it boots up but states battery life at always less that 60 instead of the full 100%.
So if anyone knows as to why this may be happening, I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this issue that has me pissed.
Thanks in advance and also if somthing like this has been posted then I apologize. I searched and did not see anything along this matter.

So ur not charging battery from ur phone? Try doing that and see if it does the same thing. Is u phone rooted? If it is, than there is a possible resolition.

The external charger may be shutting off too soon. Do what Lord said.
Also please put a subject in when you start a thread like "External charged battery only shows 60%"

Its the same charger I plug into the the spare battery case thing to charge and the light stays red for a long time then it turns green as if its done charging but when inserted battery into phone and power up, its usually around 60% charged or less. But I pull charger out of the spare battery holder and plug directly into my phone and it charges to full ballery.

Then u have a semi bad battery

The battery holder like the phone has a sensor that tells it when to stop. It is working incorrectly....broken.

Happens to me too. Or if it does hit 100 it drops immediately to 99 the moment i take it off the charger.
Well It happened on my dad's E4GT too. But fascinate/OG Epic/Illusion/Evo 3d Which I own never did so!
Take a glass and fill it up with water until it overflows, think of this as your battery. Tip it just a little and you lose some, at which point you will not have 100% of the water anymore. The moment you take it off the charger, it would only make sense for it to immediately go to 99%

Looks like its a common problem! Thanx for ur inputs everyone.

Before getting my SGS3 I used flashed a CM9 nightly and all was fine. After switching over phones the day of the release I put my phone back in its box in my desk. I missed it and wanted to play around, check out new development, and actually my first SGS3 was stolen off the bar so would have loved it as a temp instead of a BB. But anyways I picked it up and plugged it in... nothing won't charge no matter what, I left the battery out for about an hour plugged back in, left it plugged in over night nothing worked. The phone worked perfectly before I put it in my desk and it was untouched...does this sound done for or is there something I can try. Appreciate the help in advance.

Have you pulled the battery yet? Leave it out for 30 secs.

Yes, I've done 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 24 hours. Still wont power on, it sucks I dont have an extra battery to test that aspect.

Your battery may be fully discharged. Then mobile phones are incapable of charging them. This happened to me with old phones but not recently.
What you have to do is to remove the battery and apply highcharge to it.
Take a powersource which is capable of giving about 6-7 volts dc and connect two wires from it to +ve and -ve terminals of your battery. Hold it like that for about minute or two. Not more. Then try to charge the battery without turning on the phone. If don't work try increasing voltage upto 12v

It was the charging port, not quite sure how it broke over night without it being touched. Luckily my brothers girlfriend has the dinc2 so I trialed my battery in her phone and it started charging. Any fixes for the port is that a customer service issue?

It is pretty easy to replace the charging port. I did it last week, it only took about 10 minutes and you can get the charging port for $7 on ebay. There are guides and videos on how to do it.
There's a thread on replacing the USB port, its like an 8 dollar part

Now I'm seriously concerned. where do you get your information from? That is a feature present in laptops where there are moving parts like a disk drive. There's absolutely no point in that feature being present on a phone since it uses a chip to store information. The most probably cause as to why your phone reboots is because of the contacts between your battery and phone getting separated due to the impact. Make sure your battery isn't loose and all that the back cover is properly attached.

Just in have tested (on bed of course) drop 5times from 1ft height and never reboot, previously two times device was dropped from more than 2ft height on floor accidentally but never it was rebooted too. i have not read such kind of security features before this on mobile device.
I think it must have loose connection.

I watched a video drop of the S3 from about 5 meters with the commuter case, still on and working ^_^
Your battery connector is loose (on the phone), or the battery connector grid is dirty, so it looses connection when you drop it.

I don't know I watched it in a drop test video.
Correction it was the back cover. It is intended to come out in case of impact to reduce the damage.

Left phone outside last night and woke up with it pouring rain. Needless to say water got in the phone. Both camera are water logged now and the usb port is acting up saying its on charger when its not. Anybody have any ideas to maybe get the water out quicker besides rice in a bowl trick. Thanks

Ouch dude. I'm sorry that happened...I would be crying if that happened to me. It sounds like a lot of water is inside the phone and would take quiet a while for the rice to do its job. Make sure to not keep the device powered on. Remove the battery ASAP and then toss the phone in a bag of rice and let it sit for a few days. You could try setting it in front of a fan too for a few hours/days. I'm surprised the phone didn't short out yet.

Front camera is still shot and usb port damaged i guess it charges but even when i unplug it it still says its charging but battery level keeps going lower not higher. I guess i will give it a few more days then get it repaired if needed. Tried to open the phone myself and got every screw out but the one on the side and just my luck it stripped so needless to say I couldn't get the back off without breaking it...go figure!!!!

Keeping the phone powered on and trying to charge it was by far the worst thing to do. You should have removed the battery right when you got it from outside and put it into rice or let it air-dry for a long time. Obviously it's too late now but for the future just remember that for any of your electronics.
Sucks about the stripped screw. Been there done that lots of times. Those kinds of screws require a really good screwdriver.
